ABC is currently in the midst of a brouhaha with the FCC over the latter’s attempts to unearth a long-dormant partisan mandate that concerns “bona fide news programs” giving equal airtime for political parties and candidates. But it didn’t take any governmental pressure for The View to welcome Vice President J.D. Vance for its June 16 installment, and on top of all the headlines the interview garnered, it was the most-watched ep to hit the 2026 TV schedule and beyond.

J.D. Vance's Appearance Made Headlines For Days

Though many may have expected the Veep's appearance on The View to be a completely incoherent spectacle of arguments and railroaded talking points, the actual interview wasn't nearly so tumultuous. The hosts and guest smiled way more than general expectations might have allowed, even despite Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar & Co. getting directly political rather than wholly focusing on the new memoir he was there to promote, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.

In fact, Vance appeared on Fox News' Gutfeld the next day and told host Greg Gutfeld that it wasn't quite the visceral experience that he was anticipating, while still giving Whoopi a little gruff over her questioning how Donald Trump's administration views minorities and racial equality. As he put it:

Of course, while it may have been an easier time than suspected for Vance and The View's six women around the table, the interview also sparked some polarized reactions. It wasn't quite on the level of Jimmy Fallon tousling Trump's hair on The Tonight Show, but many felt that the hosts could have and should have dug their heels in even deeper.

Unsurprisingly, former host Meghan McCain also had a few things to say about Vance's interview, and positivity was not part of the equation.

Can't please everyone all of the time, of course. But regardless of how anyone felt about the interview, the facts are clear that a ton of people tuned in for it.

J.D. Vance's Interview Was The Second Most-Watched Episode In The Past 5 Years

Audiences were not put off by the potential for political muckraking when J.D. Vance joined The View, with Deadline reporting that a whopping 3.3 million people tuned in on June 16. It seems like those numbers tracked for the majority of the episode, as Vance was brought out early on and stayed the course.

This was the most watched episode of the past 20 months or so, falling behind the November 6, 2024 installment that aired the day after the presidential election. Easy to understand wny that was a big crowd, all things considered.

What's more, the V.P. interview made for the second most-watched View episode going all the way back to January 11, 2021. Interestingly enough that episode featured guest Ken Jennings for his first appearance talking about hosting Jeopardy! following the death of Alex Trebek in November 2020.

So what might happen if The View brings both J.D. Vance AND Ken Jennings on for a future episode? The world just can't handle that kind of excitement.

The View has been making headlines as of late, and not because of any additional host hiatuses after Alyssa Farah Griffin’s absence. Recently, there’s been a debate as to whether the long-running ABC talk show can be classified as a “bona fide news interview program.” This comes as the Federal Communications Commission – amid the Trump Administration – pushes hard on the long-held equal-time rule for TV programs. So let’s talk out exactly why the alphabet network wants the aforementioned classification for The View.

What Would A “Bona Fide News Interview Program” Exemption Do For The View?

A “bona fide news interview program” is defined by the FCC as an independent and legitimate news broadcast. With that distinction, said program becomes exempt from the equal-time rule, which stipulates that a TV or radio broadcaster must provide the same amount of time to opposing political candidates. On that note, Disney recently filed with the FCC, and it’s arguing The View – which features liberal and conservative guests – qualifies as a “bona fide” TV news offering, per The Hill.

Disney – along with ABC’s Houston affiliate, KTRK-TV – reportedly holds the position that its daytime talk show is comparable to a program like CBS’ Face the Nation or NBC’s Meet the Press. What should also be mentioned is that following the media company’s filing, the public is now in a position to weigh in on whether View qualifies for the “bona fide news” categorization. That public notice was officially put out by the FCC on May 22.

This all came weeks after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr ordered the House of Mouse to proceed with the process of applying for broadcast licences for all eight of the TV stations the company owns. Notably, said renewals previously weren’t required until as early as 2028, with some not even needing to be completed until 2031. As it stands, the new deadline for the renewals is May 28. Meanwhile, FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez advised Disney to “stand firm” amid the “egregious” action from Carr and co.

Carr’s renewal order also came on the heels of a situation involving Jimmy Kimmel Live!, with the titular host going viral for saying First Lady Melania Trump looked like an “expectant widow.” Those comments came just shortly before the reported shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. As for The View, Carr recently took to social media and directly questioned whether the show was a “bona fide news interview program.” As previously alluded to, there have been other instances in which the FCC and the administration have been stringent on broadcast compliance as of late.

What Other Ways Has The FCC Been Active In Regard To TV Shows Lately?

The equal-time rule is something that’s been particularly emphasized by the current administration under President Trump. Just recently, that came into play with the since-ended Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Back in February, Colbert – against CBS’ wishes – revealed on air that he had been barred from featuring an interview with Texas state representative James Talarico, stemming from the equal-time rule. The host vehemently discussed his displeasure and even directly called out Carr.

While this other situation doesn’t involve equal-time, it’s worth mentioning the FCC also had significant dealings with ABC in 2025 amid Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s suspension. Kimmel was suspended after the host made a comment relating to the death of political activist Charlie Kirk. While some complained to the FCC about Kimmel’s initial sentiments, even more viewers reportedly complained to the organization about the host’s suspension.

The more recent situation involving The View is, of course, different from the FCC’s reported conflicted with Disney over Kimmel. Should the daytime show be classified as a “bona fide news interview program,” it would mean a great deal in regard to how it handles its more political-centric guests. That would be particularly significant due to potential media opportunities ahead of the midterm elections near the end of the year.

It’s clear The View can get contentious on the air, and sometimes things can even be heated behind the scenes, particularly given the show has several Democrats for every Republican woman who sits on the round table. For Abby Huntsman, speaking her mind on air was less of a problem than the “toxic” culture she said she encountered backstage on the daytime talk show series. Which is why I'm surprised she's back this week.

Abby Huntsman left The View back in 2020. At the time, she said she wanted to step away to work on her father’s gubernatorial campaign, but a year later when she launched her own podcast, she got more candid about her exit, calling it “a great out." In fact, she called the show a “toxic environment” and didn't seem eager to repeat the experience.

She said on "I Wish Somebody Told Me" that she came in confident. However, nearly immediately there was a lot of crazy, passive-aggressive behavior on the show. She alleges The View told her everyone saw a talent coach, so she went and was “happy to get feedback.” Just a few days later, the tabloids got ahold of the fact. She knew the puff piece making her look incompetent had come “from within.”

Now, Ms. Huntsman did say on the podcast it was not necessarily her co-hosts at the time who were a problem (though she did allegedly beef with fellow The View leaver Meghan McCain). She said repeatedly in her “I Wish Somebody Told Me” podcast that it was the executives in charge who were the problem, and even when she “did report it” and asked for “change,” she’d basically get the runaround.

Though he's been around for more than a decade, Brian Teta’s been the face of the show in more recent years, and has been the person navigating Alyssa Farah Griffin’s pregnancy leave with the cast. He even has a “Behind The Table" podcast that sheds light on some of the thoughts and feelings the cast has, so the show has (seemingly) gotten more transparent in recent years. During this time, there have been several changes on the show with people in leadership positions behind the scenes, as well.

Some of those changes may help indicate why Abby Huntsman made the return to The View. She hasn’t spoken out about the why behind the decision, but she did say she did not "take for granted" the opportunity to return to the set. She also said on the show she wanted to "celebrate us thinking differently," giving hints at her mind set.

Plus, she did send congratulations to Griffin on the day of her first appearance. And she seemed jovial about getting to spend time with Joy Behar on set.

Still, I would not have guessed this would be a 2026 TV schedule outcome if someone had asked me to bet on it at the start of the year.

A slew of panelists are set to join the hot topics table while Alyssa Farah Griffin is out. We’ve already seen the likes of Savannah Chrisley share positive thoughts about Whoopi and Joy (despite reservations) and Elisabeth Hasselbeck also make a surprise return to the show.

As the 2026 TV schedule pushes on, The View continues to welcome guest hosts in the absence of Alyssa Farrah Griffin, who’s on maternity leave. The talk show welcomed series alum Elisabeth Hasselbeck last week, and they’re now joined by Sheryl Underwood. A veteran of CBS’ The Talk, Underwood slipped perfectly into the group. And, during her second appearance on the program this week, she praised another one of the ABC staple’s former co-hosts, Meghan McCain, who responded to those comments.

What Did Sheryl Underwood Say About Meghan McCain On The View?

The Tuesday, March 10th edition of The View included a discussion on the United States’ recent military strikes in Iran. Eventually, the conversation turned to South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham who made comments about what kind of military action the U.S. should take in countries like Spain and Saudi Arabia. Graham received blowback for his comments, and Meghan McCain – whose late father, Sen. John McCain knew Graham – was among those to criticize the sentiments. Underwood referenced Meghan on air, saying:

Whether McCain – who, like Underwood, is a Republican – was actually watching the broadcast live or not is unclear. However, she apparently caught wind of Underwood’s comments somehow and felt compelled to respond.

How Did Meghan McCain Respond To Sheryl Underwood’s Praise?

McCain made her statements on X, where she acknowledged that she’d known Sen. Graham since she was a child. From there, she said she was “imploring anyone who will listen in the Trump administration to stop sending this man out as a surrogate.” McCain stated that Graham was “scaring people and doing damage to whatever message” the administration was trying to get across about Iran. Upon hearing Underwood’s approval of her take, McCain shared this message with EW:

This show of mutual respect represents a bit of a unification moment between Meghan McCain and The View, which she co-hosted from 2017 to 2021 after doing guest stints between 2008 and 2010. The Citizen McCain host hasn’t held back when discussing her time on the show and, in 2021, she shared candid backstage details that painted a picture of what she believed to be a toxic working environment. However, ABC executives, reportedly disputed such claims and accused McCain of instigating drama.

Still, on rare occasions, McCain has shown love to some of her now-former co-stars despite the fact that they don’t see eye to eye. That doesn’t mean McCain is keen on returning to The View, of course. Nevertheless, those who relish moments of mutual admiration on the show may appreciate this recent development involving McCain and Underwood.

Those who want to see the remainder of Sheryl Underwood’s guest-hosting stint on The View should tune in when it airs at 11 a.m. ET during the rest of these weekdays on ABC.

Timothée Chalamet should presently have the world talking about his odds of winning an Academy Award as one of the 2026 Oscar nominees, but instead, The View and others are coming for his neck. After drawing the ire of notable ballet companies for comments saying that no one cares about the art form, the hosts sounded off on the actor.

Sunny Hostin had a few things to say, being someone on The View's panel with a background in dance. Hostin made it clear that, along with others in the dance community, she wasn't pleased with what the young actor had to say about professional dance:

Hostin was hurt by the comments, and it seemed she wanted to hurt Chalamet back by calling him "vapid" and "shallow." It's certainly not the type of adjectives an actor will want, especially when they're trying to make history with a win at the upcoming Oscars.

Sheryl Underwood, who was filling in as a guest host on The View, had a more understanding take than Sunny. Perhaps looking back to past incidents where Timothée Chalamet said he was misinterpreted, perhaps he needs to take a beat before talking, and think about the weight his words carry. Said the co-host,

Underwood's comments possibly shine a light on why so many professionals in the dance industry took offense. Beyond the disrespect, Timothée Chalamet is potentially discouraging the next generation of dancers from joining up because he is writing it off.

Whoopi Goldberg, who is always ready to go on The View, took the most aggressive stance of the panel. She pointed to the fact that Chalamet's mother, grandmother, and sister all performed for the New York City Ballet, and how his comments he lost "fourteen cents in viewership" for the statement could come back to haunt him:

Goldberg's been in Hollywood for a long time and is an award winning movie and television star (famously one of the few to claim the EGOT title). This is to say, she likely knows what she's talking about and how Timothée Chalamet's words might have a bigger impact on him than even he realizes.

If there's any silver lining to this controversy for the Marty Supreme star, it's that the Oscars voting closed before his comments made waves. Of course, it still feels like a good chance that he's going to lose the award for Best Actor, with Michael B. Jordan feeling like the favorite to win the prize for his performance in Sinners.

Chalamet will likely have more opportunities to win in the future beyond the coming show on Sunday, but he had better hope he doesn't have to rely on the votes of people who are patrons of the fine arts. Either that, or he needs to find a way to turn around these negative comments about ballet or lie low until people move on to another hot topic ahead of Sunday.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck made another return to The View last week, serving as one of the guest hosts while Alyssa Farah Griffin is on maternity leave. Hasselbeck has a pretty complicated history with The View — and this appearance only added to it — but it turns out she was way more enthusiastic about facing potentially opposing political views on daytime TV than the thought of re-exposing herself to the elements and strategies of Survivor 50.

Following her return to the table on the most recent week of The View episodes to air on the 2026 TV schedule, Elisabeth Hasselbeck reflected on her experience. While there was some backlash regarding her comeback, as well as proverbial shots fired by Megyn Kelly, a fellow former Fox News anchor, Hasselbeck told the Behind the Table podcast:

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has come back to The View before, despite being fired from show after 10 years following a backstage meltdown in which she raged against Barbara Walters. However, having the opportunity to come back for a full week of episodes apparently allowed her to get comfortable as she offered a rare conservative perspective on today’s hot-button issues. Having time to get back into the groove was important, as Hasselbeck explained:

Even Whoopi Goldberg, who’s been on The View for 19 years, has a strategy for staying fired up while cameras are running and then letting everything go until the next day, but to Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s point, I think some former co-hosts did leave The View because it was hard and in some cases they didn’t feel valued.

As far as comebacks go, though, The View wasn’t the only show Elisabeth Hasselbeck had the opportunity to return to this year. The former co-host reportedly turned down an offer to join the Survivor 50 cast, which features returning players. Hasselbeck competed on Survivor Season 2 (as Elisabeth Filarski), and she joked:

Outwit, Outplay, Outlast, indeed.

That week has come and gone, and while she didn’t take home a $1 million Sole Survivor prize, she did in fact survive her return to the table. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who was a regular conservative voice on The View from 2003 to 2013, was back this week, and she had strong opinions about some of Megyn Kelly’s comments about the recent strikes on Iran. Hasselbeck asked, “How dare you, Megyn Kelly?” and the political podcaster was quick to brush off the criticism, as she shot back (via the Daily Mail):

Elisabeth Hasselbeck announced her exit from The View in 2013, but she later admitted she’d actually been fired by ABC, reportedly after an on-air argument with Barbara Walters and Joy Behar in which Hasselbeck ripped up her notecards and initially refused to go back on stage during a commercial break because Walters had “reprimanded” her on the air.

Megyn Kelly seemed to reference how things went down for Hasselbeck on The View, saying:

Elisabeth Hasselbeck joined Fox & Friends but left in 2015, effectively retiring from TV.

The View historically hasn’t always been the most welcoming space for Republicans or those with more conservative political leanings — and that’s in the rare event that they do bring on a conservative guest. Perhaps it’s a bit shocking, then, that arguably the loudest criticism is coming from another conservative anchor.

Alyssa Farah Griffin offered advice for the Republicans filling her seat before she left, making for a full-circle moment, as she echoed some of what Elisabeth Hasselbeck had told her when she joined The View full time in 2022.

While this week has certainly seen some tense moments, not all of the conservative-leaning guest host appearances have led to fiery exchanges. Savannah Chrisley expected things to go south when she took a seat at the table, even issuing a warning to the co-hosts based on things they’d previously said about her parents.

However, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar weren’t the “pain” Savannah Chrisley thought they would be, and she ended up saying they had a “blast.” We’ll have to see how Elisabeth Hasselbeck describes her week once she’s had a chance to debrief, but given the heated exchange with Megyn Kelly, I’m not expecting it to be wholly positive.

As The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin remains on maternity leave, the producers of the daytime talk show have arranged for an array of media personalities to guest host. Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Amanda Carpenter are among the notable names who’ve been tapped to appear on the show. Kicking off the slate, though, was reality TV star Savannah Chrisley, who sat alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and co. from February 17 to 20. Now, her parents, Todd and Julie, and weighing in on how she fared at the iconic table.

Julie and Todd Chrisley discussed Savannah’s stint on The View during an episode of their Chrisley Confessions 2.0 podcast, which was seemingly recorded shortly after Savannah’s debut. Todd began by admitting he “did not want” Savannah serving as a panelist on the long-running ABC series. While Todd stressed that he wouldn’t criticize Goldberg, who has always been “supportive” of them but said he didn’t know the other ladies well. While Todd said the hosts were nice on air, he also posed an assumption at that time:

Savannah Chrisley holds conservative-leaning views, and she made it clear from the jump that she wasn’t intending to be meek when conversing with the more liberal pundits on the show. Before her stint began, Chrisley even issued a warning, saying that while she would be respectful, she also wouldn’t forget that some of the hosts criticized her parents after they were found guilty of tax fraud and more in 2022.

Todd Chrisley later said on the podcast (which was shared to YouTube) that his daughter did “great” on the show, though he also said he sensed “a little something” from a couple of panelists responding to Savannah. From there, he and Julie weighed in on what should and shouldn’t be expected from the popular talk show:

• Julie: I think you expect [tension] on that show. I don’t think you go on that show and think that it’s going to be a Wednesday night prayer group.
• Todd: No, but it shouldn’t be a bitch bash, either. I think that when you’re dealing with The View, you know, I felt that Whoopi was very respectful. I felt Sara [Haines] was. Joy is just dismissive, right? Because it’s not what she wants to hear, right? Sunny [Hostin], you know, she gave a little bit of side eye, right? But, you know, she’s been respectful thus far.

The Chrisley patriarch then stressed that he wouldn’t “get down in the gutter and talk about these women,” as he didn’t want to start “doing the same thing that everybody else is complaining about [the hosts] doing.” Julie went on to say that she believed this to be an amazing “opportunity” for Savannah and that being in a space with people who hold different perspectives would help her grow, with Todd agreeing with the latter point.

Savannah Chrisley did indeed disagree with the co-hosts on certain subjects while on The View, including some related to U.S. President Donald Trump, who pardoned her parents in 2025. It seems the experience actually turned out to be mostly fruitful for Chrisley as well. During an interview on the show’s official podcast, she admitted that she thought Goldberg and Behar would be a “pain in [her] ass,” though she admitted to having had a good time chatting with Behar behind the scenes.

Whether Savannah will ever be tapped to co-host again at some point is unclear right now. Based on the sentiments she’s shared, though, it doesn’t seem like she’s opposed to it and, if she does, it appears likely she’ll have Todd and Julie’s support in the endeavor.

Alyssa Farah Griffin is currently out on maternity leave from The View. This would normally leave the panel a little lopsided, as she’s the most notably conservative personality on the ABC daytime show right now. However, The View is bringing in Elisabeth Hasselbeck and newbies like Savannah Chrisley in her absence, and she has some advice for those taking over her seat.

To be clear, her advice seemed a bit more directed at the newcomers to the table than Hasselbeck, who is a veteran of the series, and who has been back on the show since her alleged firing back in 2013. She told newbies specifically you must be authentic:

Griffin has appeared on The View for several seasons now, having joined the main roundtable during Season 26. She said during an episode of “Behind The Table” there was one thing really took her “time to learn” on the series.

One interesting piece of advice she gave was more from a social standpoint than one about how to present. I think it’s the one that people should most take away from the series, and advice even those returning could probably use.

Joy Behar said a few weeks ago that despite some alleged drama and controversy over Elisabeth Hasselbeck coming back, she does enjoy her as a person, calling her “a good kid” in a different episode of the podcast. After Savannah Chrisley joined the series to fill in for Griffin, she admitted she thought Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar would be a “pain in the ass,” but they all got along great together, because she sought to be collaborative. It requires being open to the experience, however.

If you can’t take a step back from the disagreements you may have with people on the panel, you honestly probably should not take a job on The View. This has happened before, as women like Meghan McCain and Candace Cameron Bure have not figured out how to make the show work. McCain's called the show a "hostile" work environment, while Bure has called trying to voice her real opinions on the daytime show "difficult."

So to all the conservative ladies joining the show in the coming weeks, Alyssa Farah Griffin wants you to take away one thing:

Alyssa Farah Griffin’s been away for a couple of weeks now, after longtime Whoopi Goldberg announced she’d had a baby boy with her partner Justin Griffin, a child they named after his dad. Whoopi shared during an episode of the show the little tyke weighed in at "7lbs and 19.5 inches" at his birth.

Hopefully, she’ll enjoy the time with her little one and come back refreshed and enthusiastic. Though it sounds like her attitude toward The View is already in a good place overall.

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will keep The View from continuing its run in the 2026 TV schedule. Of course, that doesn't mean that every host is going to be able to overcome the elements and be there in person, but the show found a way to include Whoopi Goldberg all the same while she was snowed in.

The historic blizzard sweeping the East Coast kept Whoopi Goldberg at home during the latest episode of The View, but she was able to join virtually. The episode was no different from the usual fare the show is known for, save for one exception.

The View Kept Her Seat Empty, Which Was Interesting For One Big Reason

While Whoopi Goldberg is usually ready and willing to go on The View every day she's on, so she had to bring that energy from home due to the weather. Fans noticed, however, that when the episode started, Goldberg's seat was still present on the set.

That may not sound odd to the average person who doesn't regularly tune in, but other readers may know that The View regularly has a four-chair setup for when Joy Behar is out on Mondays. So, why was Goldberg's chair left onstage? Before w efore we make assumptions like Savannah Chrisley, there is an answer.

Why Did The View Keep Whoopi's Chair Empty Rather Than Remove It?

I wondered if Whoopi Goldberg's absence was unexpected, or maybe there was some edict under which The View couldn't remove her chair under any circumstances. Unfortunately, for those who may wish to pin something unsavory to Goldberg, EW reported she had nothing to do with it.

As it turned out, The View left the chair at the beginning of the program as a stylistic choice, to tease in that Whoopi Goldberg would join the show virtually. Perhaps because she wasn't planned to be absent in advance, the show opted out of doing a four-chair setup, and rather surprised the audience due to the headlines surrounding the blizzard. It's also noteworthy a studio audience was not in attendance this latest episode, also due to the weather.

It's also worth noting that the chair was removed for later segments, so it's not as though it was up for the entirety of The View. All this to say, take off the tin-foil hats if you're someone who likes to cook up theories about The View, there's nothing shady going on here. The only big shakeup as of late is the rotating panel of guest hosts to account for Alyssa Farah Griffin's absence, and that seems to be going smoothly.

With Alyssa Farah Griffin on maternity leave, The View is bringing in several guest hosts, including Savannah Chrisley, who starred with her family on reality series like Chrisley Knows Best. Her parents, Todd and Julie, spent time in federal prison for tax evasion and bank fraud before receiving presidential pardons from President Trump last May — a move criticized by the co-hosts at the time. Following her appearance on the show, Savannah said on the Behind the Table podcast that she’d been ready for a fight, telling The View’s executive producer Brian Teta:

While The View is bringing back some “controversial” guest hosts like Elisabeth Hasselbeck in Alyssa Farah Griffin’s absence, the co-hosts have something of a “toxic mean girl reputation” for how they treat those whose political views don’t align with theirs. In fact, it’s shocking how seldomly The View even invites conservative guests onto the show.

However, Savannah Chrisley said her experience made her realize she shouldn’t judge these women based on 37-minute episodes or the 15-second clips taken out of context and put out on social media. In fact, she ended up getting along quite well with Joy Behar, as she said:

This sounds a lot like how Whoopi Goldberg wakes up so incensed every day, letting all of her opinions out on the show and then shutting it down until tomorrow.

Savannah Chrisley admitted she was nervous at the prospect of being the only conservative at the table alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, but it was actually Sunny Hostin who challenged her the most about her parents’ pardons. Chrisley said they “didn’t have words,” exactly, but there was “a little hostility” from the former federal prosecutor during a commercial break.

However, the next day Savannah Chrisley said Sunny Hostin admitted she hadn’t understood some things about Todd and Julie’s case, and Savannah apologized for getting defensive.

In the end, the Growing Up Chrisley star was proud of the fact that she and the View co-hosts were able to have conversations with each other and find common ground, despite their opposing political views.

Political commentator and former CNN regular Amanda Carpenter will be the next guest co-host filling in on The View, so tune in at 11 a.m. ET Monday, February 23, on ABC to hear everyone’s commentary on the latest hot topics.

The big news on The View this week had to do with Alyssa Farah Griffin, who made a not-so-unexpected exit to attend to the birth of her first child last week. While congratulations are due to the new mom, the even bigger news is the talk show bringing in big names like Savannah Chrisley and former host Elisabeth Hasselbeck to fill her shoes.

Savannah Chrisley has already issued a warning about refusing to “shrink her values” on the show when she appears, but apparently that’s not even what caused the most controversy amongst The View viewers. Instead, people are up in arms about Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s return. Executive producer Brian Teta spoke with Joy Behar about the “backlash” Hasselbeck’s name has been receiving online, and Behar seemed surprised by the discourse.

• Teta: "There was a lot of reaction to Elisabeth Hasselbeck, which surprised me a little bit, because she’s, don’t get me wrong, Elisabeth has controversial takes occasionally and passionate takes, but you two worked together and overall got along. "
• Behar: "It’s fine, she’s a good kid. She’s a good kid… she got a lot of negative things? "
• Teta: "Well, people are like, I can’t believe Elisabeth’s coming back."

Hasselbeck did have a lengthy run on The View in the past. She appeared on the show between 2003 and 2013 after her famous run on Survivor back in 2001. She married former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck in 2002 and made her TV debut a year later, where she did become known for her conservative viewpoints.

She left the series in 2013 in what she later admitted was actually a surprise firing by ABC. (Note: The move reportedly came after a meltdown in the middle of filmingThe View in which she’d threatened to quit and “chucked” her cards while the show was on commercial break.) She shifted to Fox & Friends for a couple of years after that before unofficially retiring from her TV career, though Survivor has really wanted her to play again.

So, her coming back may seem like a pretty big shock, even for fans who would be happy to see her on the long-running talk show. More recently, though, Farah Griffin said Hasselbeck telling her to “own [her] chair” during her run on The View really impacted her as a new host, and the two seem to be kindred spirits. Plus, she did make returns in 2019 and 2020 prior to this, so her coming back as a guest host is not that out of left field. This is true despite the drama from the past, and the fans who clearly are unhappy about her return.

Teta went on to explain on “Behind the Table” that some personalities on The View simply draw in controversy online. Hasselbeck is on that list, as is Rosie O’Donnell and Rosie Perez. But how does Joy Behar feel about the show filling Alysa Farah Griffin’s spot with other conservative personalities?

Ultimately, at the end of the day, she does feel like the discussion is better when alternative viewpoints are put forth, even if those viewpoints are being put forth by some people the certain factions of the fanbase clearly aren’t gelling with. But per Behar, there’s one piece of advice she’d like fans to keep in mind: “It’s just business, it’s not personal.”

Several guest hosts will step in for Alyssa Farah Griffin on The View when she goes on maternity leave next week, and I have to admit I was a little surprised to see Savannah Chrisley’s name among them. The View hasn’t exactly been complimentary of her parents Todd and Julie, who spent time in prison for tax evasion before being pardoned by Donald Trump. To that end, Savannah has issued a warning to her fellow panelists that she hasn’t forgotten what they said.

Savannah Chrisley’s Warning To The View Co-Hosts

Savannah Chrisley, who came to fame with her family on the reality show Chrisley Knows Best, shared that she’ll be the first guest co-host joining Whoopi Goldberg and the others next week on The View, which airs weekdays on the 2026 TV schedule. As a vocal Trump supporter, Chrisley expects to face opposing political opinions, and she wrote on X that she welcomes the debates to come, writing:

However, given what some of the co-hosts have said about her parents amid their legal issues, they might want to be prepared to defend their statements to Savannah’s face, as she continued:

Savannah Chrisley has staunchly supported her parents since the conviction in 2022, blaming the government for their legal woes and saying the justice system failed them. While supporting Trump at the 2024 Republican National Convention, she said Todd and Julie Chrisley were “persecuted” by the justice system, and it seems some of The View co-hosts weren’t impressed when the Chrisleys’ White House connections led to the presidential pardons.

What The View Hosts Have Said About The Chrisleys

On The View’s May 28, 2025, episode, Joy Behar expressed disappointment in the president seemingly letting Todd Chrisley and his wife “off the hook” — according to Behar — because of his fame and wealth. She said:

Ana Navarro chimed in as well, after Whoopi Goldberg wondered if Americans are numb to this kind of thing, or if people were going to have a problem with it. Navarro said:

Savannah Chrisley has fought against accusations that she bought her parents’ pardon (or that she “slept with someone” for it), so I’d guess that’s something that’s likely to come up during Chrisley’s guest spot.

Todd and Julie Chrisley’s pardon wasn't the only thing that got The View talking about the reality TV family, though. Back in 2022, Joy Behar referred to the Chrisley Knows Best stars as “idiots” during a rant about Trump, saying (per Decider):

It will be interesting to see how Savannah Chrisley’s time on The View goes, especially given the shocking discrepancy between liberal and conservative voices on the show and how right-leaning celebrities like Cheryl Hines have had upsetting experiences. Since its inception more than a quarter-century ago, The View has been known to tackle the most buzzworthy topics in news, politics and pop culture, with the co-hosts never afraid to tell us how they really feel. As the 29th season continues on the 2026 TV schedule, tensions are as high as ever, and even moderator Whoopi Goldberg acknowledged the job can “feel like hell.” It seems exhausting to wake up each morning and lead incensed debates over current events, so how does Goldberg do it?

That very question came up during a conversation between Whoopi Goldberg and Interview magazine, as The View’s longtime co-host brought up everything that’s been going on with Greenland — a topic that’s been discussed a lot on the show. The EGOT winner was asked if it was better to stay present when breaking down such issues or if that was too taxing, to which she replied:

It sounds like Whoopi Goldberg has achieved (or at least strives for) a pretty healthy balance — paying enough attention to the issues to speak passionately and with knowledge, but also being careful to not let those emotions bleed into the rest of her day. It sounds like it takes a conscious effort, too, as she said:

Ain’t that the truth? If it’s not Greenland, it’s Elon Musk criticizing Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (I mean, of course that’s not going to fly with the Star Trek: The Next Generation alum) or the 66-year-old Golden Bachelor not wanting to date women over 60 or so much hubbub over Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s relationship. (For that one, Whoopi Goldberg refused to engage altogether, chiming in only to cap the conversation, which I guess is another strategy to protect her peace.)

At least if Whoopi Goldberg has to wake up each day to discuss all the craziness the world has to offer, she knows how to back-burner those emotions so she’s ready to do it all again the next day. I wonder if the other co-hosts follow a similar strategy?

We all know that The View co-hosts can throw some shade, but even since walking away from the table in 2021, Meghan McCain hasn’t had any trouble speaking her mind. This weekend she hit up social media to share her thoughts on current events like watching the Super Bowl halftime show and the recent daytime talk show cancellations, the latter of which included what appears to be a pretty brutal dig at Kelly Clarkson and Sherri Shepherd.

Last week news broke that both The Kelly Clarkson Show and Sherri would not return following the end of their current seasons on the 2026 TV schedule. Meghan McCain seemed to have a strong opinion about the reason for that, as she wrote (via EW) in a since-deleted post on X:

Meghan McCain didn’t mention either Kelly Clarkson or Sherri Shepherd by name, but given that this post came just days after these two major cancellations, it seems fairly simple to connect the dots. She went on to shout out another former talk show host whose style McCain had more of an appreciation for, writing:

It’s strange that Meghan McCain would fire such shots at Kelly Clarkson, who is generally loved for her relatability, but it seems the daughter of late Sen. John McCain prefers talk show hosts who push the envelope, perhaps challenging their guests a little more than the American Idol singer.

Meanwhile, Meghan McCain has had issues with Sherri Shepherd — who also previously co-hosted The View — in the past, which possibly makes the shade easier to explain. Back in 2022, Shepherd trash-talked McCain on Watch What Happens Live, and McCain responded by calling out the “toxic mean girl” reputation on ABC’s award-winning daytime series.

Sherri Shepherd was also the host chosen to replace Wendy Williams when health issues prompted her own series cancellation. Is it possible Kelly Clarkson just got caught in the crosshairs of an old beef? That would be easier to believe if McCain’s post had mentioned just one cancellation and not said, “all these daytime talk shows.”

Kelly Clarkson made the announcement on February 2, saying that stepping away from The Kelly Clarkson Show after seven seasons “will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.” Brandon Blackstock, her ex-husband and the father of her two children, died in August after a long battle with cancer.

News of Sherri’s cancellation following Season 4, meanwhile, came just hours later from Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, the co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury, who said:

Sherri Shepherd spoke out the following day to thank fans for their support, saying that she had COVID and would “address all of the news that has come out” when she was feeling better.

We don’t yet have end dates for Sherri or The Kelly Clarkson Show, but both will finish out their current seasons and can still be seen each weekday. Check your local listings for time and channel.

A pair of disappointing announcements rocked daytime TV audiences this week, with Kelly Clarkson calling it quits with her talk show right as Sherri Shepherd’s titular talk show was canceled. While no such fate is in store for The View on ABC, the option-driven talk show will be seeing its own changes in upcoming episodes, with a lineup of guest hosts announced to fill in for regular Alyssa Farah Griffin.

Currently in the thick of Season 29, The View will be saying a fond and only temporary farewell to Griffin as she heads out for maternity leave. The political strategist and her husband Justin Griffin are expecting a baby boy this month, their first, and she’ll be bowing out after the February 13 episode. (Tuesday’s ep featured her on-screen baby shower.) It’s obviously unclear how long she’ll be gone from the 2026 TV schedule, but producer Bryan Teta has set up several new and returning guest hosts to fill in.

Telling Deadline that Griffin’s temp exit leaves “big shoes to fill,” and that he wanted to bring in others who brought a “different point of view at the table,” and those who either have experience in this kind of format, or have the potential to excel. (The lopsided balance of guests in 2025 may be an inspiration there.) So let’s take a look at who The View is bringing in soon.

Savannah Chrisley

The first guest host to get slotted in will be reality star and podcaster Savannah Chrisley, who is joining The View as a guest host for the first time, though she was a guest (full-stop) more than a decade ago as a cast member on Chrisley Knows Best. (Her father Todd did get co-host credit.) Savannah certainly garnered a lot of popularity as her famed parents went to jail for tax fraud, and she helped get them pardoned, so expect that to enter the table conversation without a doubt.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Elisabeth Hasselbeck was a core part of The View's ensemble from 2003, when she replaced Lisa Ling, to 2013, where she left alongside Joy Behar (who later returned full-time). Hasselbeck has returned to the show has a guest host and guest several times over the years for some heightened chats, so it's no surprise she's part of this group as well.

Abby Huntsman

Former Fox News and MSNBC host Abby Huntsman had a shorter stint at the table, from 2018-2020, when she exited to join her father's political campaign. She later returned as co-host in 2024.

Amanda Carpenter

Political commentator and former CNN regular Amanda Carpenter is set to fill in for Griffin, though this won't be her first time subbing in as a guest host. She previously joined the ladies in a 2018 ep, and twice more in 2021.

Sheryl Underwood

Comedian Sheryl Underwood was one of The Talk's hosts until the CBS series was canceled in 2024, and will be making her first appearance on The View as guest host.

Whitney Cummings

Comedian and TV regular Whitney Cummings will be making her second guest host appearance, following her first in 2018, though she did stop by as a guest in 2021.

As noted above, Alyssa Farah Griffin will be around for another week, until February 13, and it sounds like the group will go without a guest host on Monday, February 16.

A new Star Trek series hit the 2026 TV schedule and caused quite a stir among viewers in recent weeks, as is often the case. Though Starfleet Academy received lots of praise from critics, other prominent names like Elon Musk and United States Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller bemoaned the show for pushing a "woke" agenda. Amidst their comments, The View's Whoopi Goldberg fired back with a big response.

Goldberg knows a lot about Trek, having been a longtime fan who played the mysterious bartender Guinan in The Next Generation. She made the jump to join the series after winning an Oscar, which was an unprecedented move at the time, so it's safe to say the actress has a lot of passion for the franchise. For that reason, she filled in The View audience on the discourse surrounding Starfleet Academy, Musk and Miller's comments, and why she felt they were out of line:

It's true, Star Trek is more than just space travel and exploration. It was built on the foundation of IDIC (Infinite Diversity Infinite Combinations) and has always pushed progressive ideals since the original series. Lest we forget the brouhaha it caused over its interracial kiss, which led to stations in the southern United States refusing to air it.

Despite that, Elon Musk and others have publicly expressed their distaste for elements of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, including the fact that the series features an openly lesbian couple. It's not the first Trek show to feature a same-sex couple either, as Paul Stamets and Hugh Culber were an openly gay married couple in Discovery.

Whoopi Goldberg wasn't having it, and questioned the motive of Musk and others in powerful positions being so concerned about Star Trek: Starfleet Academy:

Others enjoying Star Trek: Starfleet Academy have a similar sentiment, though not quite as specific. I openly wondered after the trailer dropped why some Trekkies were adamant on speaking out about the trailer feeling "woke" almost a decade into the relaunch of the franchise. The franchise isn't doing anything different than it did back when Discovery launched in 2017, so those staying tuned in should know the deal by now.

I will say that Star Trek is facing an issue in its fandom, as many other long-running sci-fi shows like Star Wars and Doctor Who face. There are now fans across multiple generations invested in seeing new shows, but they all have different ideals on what is and isn't progressive, and what does and doesn't have a place in its franchise. It sets up an impossible task for the showrunners of these franchises, who can't create something that everyone will enjoy.

Maybe it's a unique problem in pop culture, or maybe it's just a reality that, because Star Trek is a series built on showing a progressive future, it will always have critics talking it down. In any case, the franchise celebrates 60 years in 2026, so I would expect to see a lot more headlines about it as the year continues, and maybe even some new show announcements.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy streams new episodes over on Paramount+ on Thursdays. The series is already returning for Season 2, so those watching likely don't have to worry about debate about the show impacting a renewal for now.

As long as we have celebrities we’re probably going to have celebrity romances to swoon over, gossip about, and outright question in numerous ways. One couple who’s been making lots of waves, especially lately, is recent Critics’ Choice Awards winner Timothée Chalamet and billionaire beauty mogul/The Kardashians star Kylie Jenner. While fellow award show attendee Amanda Seyfried seemed a bit confused by the Marty Supreme actor thanking his girlfriend during his acceptance speech, a discussion about the moment on The View led to a hilarious two-word response from Whoopi Goldberg that is absolutely sending me.

How Whoopi Goldberg Ended The View Convo About Timothée Chalamet Publicly Thanking Kylie Jenner

Guys, I cannot tell a lie: I have spent some time in my life speculating about the relationships of famous people who I’ve never met and are unlikely to ever meet. But, even though part of my literal job is to write about celeb couples and the rumors that frequently surround many of them, I don’t generally spend most of my time thinking about such things. And, I’m going to guess that this is how The View’s Whoopi Goldberg goes about her daily life, as well, considering how she recently reacted to a Hot Topics discussion on the long-running daytime show about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.

The point of conversation, specifically, was whether or not the Dune actor (who also briefly acknowledged his romance on a podcast before Christmas) publicly thanking the Kardashian/Jenner family member who’s been his partner for three years now during his Critics’ Choice Best Actor acceptance speech is a sign of trouble being on the horizon for the duo, or if it was just a sweet gesture. After a short back and forth among the co-hosts, which did not include any input from moderator Goldberg, the singing Sister Act 3 star ended the segment with a quip that showed how relieved she was for it to be over:

Oh, Whoop. We love you.

You know what? I totally feel the Whoopster’s pain here, folks. There is nothing worse than feeling forced into a conversation you’d rather not have, whether the topic is about you or someone else. If you think the EGOT winner remained silent about the matter in the most respectful way, well, you’re sorta correct. But, after announcing the topic at the start of the segment in a way that showed her general confusion about why it was being discussed, the Ghost Oscar winner spent the entirety of the convo looking bored as hell:

Who among us hasn’t thought “Thank God!” when our sudden, unwelcome involvement in a discourse has finally ended? Pretty much all of us, right? But, what’s sending me to the moon is Goldberg actually saying it out loud to let millions of people know that she was not on board with any of that mess. I gotta say, I want more of that freedom! We might not all be able to say what we think exactly when we think it, so it’s good that we can enjoy that feeling through Goldberg’s unfiltered nature every once in a while. This kind of behavior is priceless!

For most of her career, Cheryl Hines has been known as a comedic actress in shows like the bingeworthy Curb Your Enthusiasm and Suburgatory, as well as movies like A Bad Moms Christmas. However, lately, a lot of interest in her has taken a political turn. Hines’ marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became the focus of her visit to The View in October and, after what seems like a pretty upsetting experience, Hines said there’s something she’d like to ask the co-hosts.

Cheryl Hines was invited to The View to promote her memoir, Unscripted, but the topic of conversation quickly turned to her husband and his role as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Speaking on The Dr. Phil Podcast months later, the host wondered if the roles were reversed, would a man have been made to defend his wife’s political statements? Hines replied with her own ideas about turning the tables, saying:

The October 14, 2025, edition of The View did get tense at times, with Sunny Hostin especially challenging Cheryl Hines on some of the controversial statements made by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. While Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and the others acknowledged several times that these were not Hines’ statements, it was often followed by a question asking her to defend or give her opinion on what her husband was doing.

The actress pointed this out, telling Dr. Phil:

Cheryl Hines told Phil McGraw that she was happy for the opportunity to clear up some misconceptions, including how few HHS secretaries have had a medical degree, after Sunny Hostin said “respectfully” that RFK Jr. was the “least qualified” person in history to hold that position. During that interview, it definitely looked like Cheryl Hines was under some duress. So will she get the chance to sit with The View co-hosts again and possibly ask them about their spouses?

It seems the door is open if she’s willing to step through it again (she indicated to Joy Behar at the time that wouldn’t be the case). Whoopi Goldberg did ask her to come back, saying they don’t often have guests who they can ask such questions to.

I guess we’ll have to wait to see if that day comes but, in the meantime you can catch The View weekdays, airing on the 2026 TV schedule at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. Also, Cheryl Hines can be seen on all 12 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm, streaming with an HBO Max subscription.

If I asked you which way The View swings politically, I’m fairly confident you’d say toward the left. The show is always very specific about having at least one talking head with conservative views at any given time, but more often than not, she’s counterbalanced by a larger number of hosts who are open about their liberal views. That’s definitely not a surprise, but a new study alleging the breakdown of conservative vs liberal guests on the show is turning more than a few heads. In fact, I think it’s fair to say it’s shocking.

The Media Research Center recently analyzed the appearances of all 341 guests the show had on in 2025. It turns out more than half didn’t talk about politics during their appearance at all. Of the 130 who did, however, 128 of them expressed liberal viewpoints and a whopping 2 expressed conservative viewpoints. Let me repeat that: 128 out of 130.

According to TV Insider, the show did not include celebrity guests in the breakdown if they have spoken about their political views in the past but did not touch on them during the interview. This alleged breakdown only includes guests who actually talked about politics during their segments. Cheryl Hines, who is married to Secretary Robert Kennedy, and politician Marjorie Taylor Green were reportedly the only ones to express conservative viewpoints during their appearances.

Now, before we get into the specifics here, it’s worth acknowledging that The Media Research Center is a watchdog group that is pretty open about its conservative views. Its primary goal is to fight the alleged left wing media bias; so, it’s fair to say they do have a horse in the race. We don’t know how vaguely or explicitly someone needed to reference politics to count here, but for those of us who watch The View at least occasionally, this doesn’t feel that far off.

I called it shocking in the headline though because when you see it laid out this directly, it feels shocking. The conversations between the panelists often move toward the left, but because there is sometimes a level of pushback, it doesn’t feel like left wing propaganda. It feels like friends having a conversation, most of whom are left wing, though it is worth noting that several conservative hosts left with very hard feelings.

Now, why the show is only having on liberal guests could potentially be due to a lot of different factors. First, it’s fair to say that the acting profession and Hollywood in general are more left wing than the rest of society. Certain types of people tend to be drawn to certain professions, and if most of their coworkers think a certain way, they may be less likely to express those viewpoints. Hollywood is and has always been, at least outwardly, a more liberal place; so, that explains why actors may be less likely to express right wing viewpoints.

It’s perhaps more telling that the show allegedly had on 25 Democratic politicians and only 1 Republican politician. Given the relatively even breakdown in elected officials and how people vote in the country, that feels more objectively biased. It’s unclear, however, whether right wing politicians are being invited on the show and declining or simply not being invited at all. If the perception amongst potential guests is that the hosts will be more sympathetic toward Democratic politicians than Republican politicians, that may make the former more likely to come on the show.

Ultimately, any television show can be as conservative or liberal as it wants to be, provided the network as a whole is following the Equal Time Rule around election season. There’s nothing wrong with The View having on more left wing guests, even if the full breakdown is rather shocking. That being said, if producers are interested in appealing to a wider demographic or at least appearing more unbiased, however, they may want to consider going out of their way to bring on a few more conservatives in 2026, especially with the possibility of increased competition.

Taylor Sheridan is the kind of TV creator who sets his various characters up as mouthpieces for a litany of his own viewpoints. He’s hardly alone in that respect, but he is one of relatively few creatives who maintains a sole writing credit across multiple series, so there’s little doubt where the opinionated comments come from. Pop culture usually doesn’t inspire such discussions amongst the blue-collar characters, but Landman’s latest episode surprisingly lobbed a shot at Whoopi Goldberg and the women of The View, and I can't wait for their responses.

In the middle of Season 2’s fifth installment, “The Pirate Dinner,” Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy is in the midst of a hectic day and a long drive when Sam Elliott’s T.L. calls him up to complain about being bored, not to mention being locked outside of the house. (It’s hard to tell where T.L.’s arc is going, and this scene didn’t exactly lay out a wealth of potential futures, beyond possibly doing voiceover work for Tommy’s neighbor.)

Tommy’s advice points to The View as a source of semi-ironic daytime amusement, but T.L. somehow has no knowledge of a series that’s been on the air in a near-daily capacity since 1997. Here’s how their convo went down:

• TOMMY: Watch one of them daytime talk shows, you know, like The View or something.
• T.L.: What's The View?
• TOMMY: A bunch of pissed-off millionaires bitching about how much they hate millionaires and Trump and men and you and me and everybody else they got a bee up their ass about. It’s pretty funny.
• T.L.: Don’t sound funny.
• TOMMY: Well, it ain’t ‘joke’ funny, it’s like ‘fart in church’ funny, you know what I mean?
• T.L.: That don’t sound funny, either.
• TOMMY: Well, it depends on your proximity to the fart.

Strangely not the most insulting barb that Taylor Sheridan is capable of, and it's nowhere near as pointedly blunt as so many other comments made by Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy. Don't get me wrong, it's an obvious knock against the that T.L. has remained blind to the show's Hot Topics for nearly three decades, and it's not like Tommy is saying The View is worth watching for its genius insights and personalities. He's more or less calling it a wreck that one can't help but stare at. So not complimentary in the slightest.

As a viewer, it’s both interesting and amusing to see Tommy’s casual criticism of The View’s female hosts falling back into the same repeated behavior patterns and topics, since it’s in a show that has itself been criticized by critics and fans themselves about how its female characters are depicted, from Angela to Ainsley to Rebecca and beyond.

Even if Taylor Sheridan himself absolutely adores The View, I'd have still expected him to write Tommy as if he thought the talk show was a waste of time. Especially since Tommy doesn't seem to ever want to get into any political arguments with anyone, you'd think he'd tire of the show's subject matter immediately. But just as there are plenty of different ways to fart in church, The View doesn't always fall back on the same old Washington D.C. talking points.

Given the mildly genial shot taken by Billy Bob Thornton's character, I'm interested to see, first, whether or not any of the women are aware of what Landman is. (Just kidding: Thornton appeared on the show in 2024 to promote the streaming western's first season.) More sincerely, I can't wait to see whether Whoopi & Co. choose to take offense and strike back out, or if all involved will view it as the light-hearted insult it came across as.

That said, CBS News' newest boss Bari Weiss has supposedly held a grudge against The View's team after she was passed over to fill a vacated spot at the table years ago, and she's rumored to be starting up a direct daytime competitor for CBS's daytime fare. Given when Landman filmed its Season 2 episodes, however, it doesn't appear as if Tommy's comments were directly sparked by Paramount's post-merger leadership regime.

The View continues to stay strong on the 2025 TV schedule, despite co-host Joy Behar thinking the show hasn’t been true all “28 years” it’s been on. As of late, though, the series has seen its fair share of controversies even as viewers continue to tune in. Now, an insider is claiming that CBS News' new head honcho is formulating a content-related plan that might impact Behar, Whoopi Goldberg and co. And this move allegedly isn't just business-motivated.

According to RadarOnline, new CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss is developing a brand-new daytime, panel-driven show. While it’s not a reboot of The Talk, it’s allegedly being billed as The Right View. An insider also claims to Rob Shuter that the move is “personal” and reportedly stems from Weiss being passed over as co-host on the ABC mainstay four years ago. Weiss was supposedly one of the potential names floated to replace Meghan McCain as the conservative presence on he panel. The source also said:

Alleged network sources claim Weiss is “quietly” building a “sharp-debate-driven alternative” show. Additionally, it's said that she's purportedly already approved development meetings for the series which would feature a “panel of diverse voices engaging in real conversation without the on-air meltdowns or shouting matches that have become The View’s signature.”

Right now, nothing more has been reported about the supposed new show, and it's unclear if it's in the works. There's also uncertainty regarding Bari Weiss’ intentions.

What is known is that Meghan McCain exited The View in 2021. McCain explained she was leaving in order to prioritize her home life, which had been affected by the COVID pandemic. She also wanted to focus on raising her and husband Ben Domenech’s daughter in D.C., rather than having to move back to New York to tape The View. After McCain left, the series' producers brought in a variety of guest hosts to fill the conservative position, and she was ultimately being replaced by Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro.

Weiss, meanwhile, seems to be keeping her focus on her new job. She’s been editor-in-chief of CBS News since October 6, and media analysts have argued that some of her creative decisions have been right-leaning. Weiss was also accused of submitting to President Trump's wishes amid his 60 Minutes interview, which sparked a hefty lawsuit. While this alleged talk show seems to be far from set in stone at this point, it's fair to say it could theoretically create some daytime competition for The View if it proves appealing to viewers.

CBS has been down a panel talk show since The Talk ended last year. Instead of its afternoon slot being replaced with a different talk show, the Eye network opted to air a new soap opera, Beyond the Gates, in its place, which has reportedly been doing well ratings-wise. If this new talk show makes it to air, it’s hard to tell where in the weekly schedule it would fit, but that’s just another bridge that will have to be crossed if it comes to that.

The View Season 29 is airing amid the 2025 TV schedule, with the panel of co-hosts continuing to discuss politics, pop culture and more. As of late, though, the long-running daytime TV program has been without one of its key personalities. The pundit in question is Joy Behar, who’s missed a few tapings as of late, and no official reason was given right away. Now, thanks to Behar’s colleague, Whoopi Goldberg, we now know why she’s been absent from recent tapings.

Joy Behar (83) is reportedly off on Mondays, so she was not present for the November 10 edition of The View. However, she was also notably not present for the Tuesday, November 11 taping, with Whoopi Goldberg telling the live studio audience that she’d hopefully return for the Wednesday broadcast. That ultimately didn’t come to pass and, during the taping of the November 12 episode, Goldberg revealed on air (via Entertainment Weekly) that Behar’s return to the show had been hampered by an injury:

Behar joined The View upon its debut on ABC in 1997, joining the likes of other hosts like Barbara Walters and Star Jones. Ultimately, Behar exited the series in 2013 amid Season 13 but continued to guest host over the next several years. She eventually returned as a full-time panelist in 2015 and has since held that position. Over the years, Behar has occasionally missed tapings for one reason or another like most hosts.

The past year has seen Joy Behar make headlines for several reasons and, more recently, she threw shade at new Bachelorette Taylor Frankie Paul for having multiple baby daddies. Behar has also been reflective this year, sharing thoughts on former co-stars she didn’t think were all that nice. However, Behar also discussed the “sisterhood” that exists among the hosts of the show, saying that if someone criticizes a colleague, she’ll defend them like family.

Although Behar and Whoopi Goldberg are both major fixtures on The View, it was rumored earlier this year that the two could end up fired. Behar herself clapped back at the speculation, saying that there was no validity to it. On top of that, Behar was also blunt when addressing those who put stock in such rumors, as she said, “How stupid are people that they believe this?”

Considering the clarification for Joy Behar’s latest absence came directly from Whoopi Goldberg, though, viewers should believe what they’re hearing in this case. It, of course, remains to be seen if Behar will indeed return to the air before the week of November 10 is over. The show aside, though, let’s hope Behar has a relatively speedy recovery from that foot injury.

The announcement that the next lead of The Bachelorette was coming not from a previous season of the dating franchise but from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was shocking, prompting all kinds of reactions from Bachelor Nation — and from Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex-boyfriend. You just know the co-hosts over at The View had thoughts as well, including Joy Behar, who threw some shade at the reality TV star.

Taylor Frankie Paul, 31, has three children — 8-year-old Indy and 5-year-old Ocean with ex-husband Tate Paul and 17-month-old Ever with ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. After watching a clip from the future Bachelorette’s interview on Call Her Daddy, in which she talks about informing her children’s fathers of her new role, Joy Behar cracked a joke about Paul having multiple baby daddies, saying:

Alyssa Farah Griffin refused to disparage Taylor Frankie Paul for the same reason Joy Behar did, but she had her own thoughts on Paul’s “colorful past” that left her “conflicted” about the season. For one thing, Griffin said, there’s just a lot of uncertainty with ABC’s decision to recruit from outside of Bachelor Nation. She continued:

The View co-hosts also recently shared their opinions on the upcoming season of The Golden Bachelor, which hits the 2025 TV schedule at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday, September 24, on ABC. Mel Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL linebacker, raised some eyebrows by saying on a podcast that he planned on eliminating any women over the age of 60.

One can imagine how well this went over on The View, with Alyssa Farah Griffin saying he sounded like “a dog,” and Sunny Hostin pointing out that just because he wants to date 45-year-old women does not mean that 45-year-olds want to date him.

The Golden Bachelor will air before Taylor Frankie Paul’s appearance on The Bachelorette — expected to premiere in January 2026 — as will the third season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (streaming with a Hulu subscription), in which we’ll apparently see how Paul ends her on-off relationship with Dakota Mortensen for good. When it comes to controversial pop culture topics, you know the co-hosts over at The View are going to have an opinion. That is certainly the case regarding the drama that’s already circulating over the lead of The Golden Bachelor Season 2, which is set to premiere on the 2025 TV schedule later this year. Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and the rest of the panel had some pretty strong thoughts about 66-year-old Mel Owens not wanting to date women his age.

Mel Owens, a former NFL linebacker, said on a podcast in June that before he was cast on The Golden Bachelor, he told producers he would eliminate any women “60 or older” from his season and that he also didn’t want anyone with artificial hips or wigs. Only three women fit Owens' “45 to 60” criteria, with one 58-year-old and two 60-year-olds. Eight of his 25 potential women are his age or older.

The View is famously challenging and stressful – Candace Cameron Bure once said she had “PTSD” following her time on the show. The panelists have to discuss hot and divisive newsworthy and political topics on a daily basis, and those takes can go viral and cause quite a stir online.

Plus, over the years, panelists haven’t gotten along, and heated rifts between them can also make the job difficult.

Along with this, Goldberg wasn’t the only person to comment on how hard this job can be. Alyssa Farah Griffin discussed it the following day, while the panel talked about crying at work.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard comments about The View hosts being a sisterhood. That’s always comforting to hear, considering the difficulties that come with being on this show. It’s not for the faint of heart, and I’m happy the women are there to support each other through it.

It’s been years since Meghan McCain left The View, however, her turbulent relationship with the daytime talk show is still discussed frequently. She will also criticize The View’s co-hosts when something happens on the show that she disagrees with. That history, as well as her feelings about Biden’s politics, have led to mixed reactions to this clip.

However, many have remained positive and emotional, considering Biden’s current battle with prostate cancer is reminiscent of John McCain’s, as @allenanalysis pointed out:

Now, Joy Behar has opened up about some years being “bad,” while also sharing her feelings about the “sisterhood” of hosts and the current crew leading the show.

Meanwhile, Meghan McCain has shared negative thoughts about The View and working with its co-hosts on many occasions. A couple of years ago, she specifically took shots at Ana Navarro, a current panelist, after she heard Navarro compare Hunter Biden to other children of politicians. McCain also said that she doesn’t communicate with any of the hosts she worked with, however, she is still friends with some folks who work on the show.

Clearly, relationships between the hosts as well as the women and the show generally vary. However, while it’s had its ups and downs, Behar maintained that they’ll “defend” each other. She also noted that the current panel is a pretty peaceful bunch, explaining:

All these women have been on the panel for at least a few years, with Behar and Goldberg both having been there for more than a decade. So, based on the panelist's recent comments and the fact that they’ve all worked on the show for quite some time, it seems like they really do all get along pretty well.

Like anything, The View goes through its ups and downs. However, at the moment, they seem to be on an up, and as the chat show continues to air on weekdays on ABC, let’s hope they can keep that going.

A lot of co-hosts have come and gone in the 28 years that Joy Behar has been on The View, and you don’t have to watch the ABC staple every day on the 2025 TV schedule to know that some of the show’s strong personalities have clashed. In a February episode of The View that re-aired recently (no, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar haven’t been fired; the show just took a brief hiatus), the co-hosts were discussing the female friendship storyline from The White Lotus Season 3. They discussed whether or not growing up with siblings made one more likely to always feel in competition with those around them. Behar said as an only child, she doesn’t recognize “toxic” behavior toward her, telling her colleagues:

This prompted Alyssa Farah Griffin — one of the conservative voices added to The View in 2022, who has bumped heads with Joy Behar a number of times — to protest that “no one at this table has been mean to you,” to which Behar replied:

She makes a good point, at least as far as Alyssa Farah Griffin is concerned, because there were definitely moments in the 25 years prior to Griffin and Ana Navarro officially joining the cast of co-hosts that tensions rose between Behar and someone else sitting at the table.

The co-hosts didn’t linger on the topic, so no names were dropped as to who Joy Behar might have been thinking of. My mind, however, immediately went to Meghan McCain, who continues to have beef with the Emmy-winning daytime talk show hosts years after she left The View.

The daughter of the late senator John McCain has said it was a mean comment from Joy Behar that ultimately led her to exit, and some of their on-air spats at the time got so heated that ABC’s head honcho had to step in

Of course, Meghan McCain isn’t the only person whose personality or politics didn’t mesh with Joy Behar’s over the years — and I’m not just talking about co-hosts.

While it didn’t happen around the table at The View, Kid Rock famously called the co-host a “bitch” on Fox News in 2018. Behar also apparently had a “personal” issue with the Jersey Shore cast members and allegedly “cornered” Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi in a bathroom and told her, “You’re not Italian.” When the cast appeared on The View again years later, Behar allegedly refused to take part in the segment.

And who can forget The View’s Liam Neeson disaster? The actor may have been what some considered a little mean after the fact (and understandably so), after his appearance on The View revolved only around Joy Behar’s longtime crush on him. The Taken actor said he “wasn’t impressed” with the co-hosts’ behavior, and the segment was “just a bit embarrassing.”

We’ll have to see if Joy Behar ever expounds on who she envisions when she talks about people being mean to her on The View, but until then, you can continue to watch the co-hosts at 11 a.m. ET weekdays on ABC.

When it comes to getting opinionated on TV, the female co-hosts on The View could easily qualify as experts, even if they’re entirely aware that not everyone else agrees with those opinions. Indeed, its Oscar-winning moderator Whoopi Goldberg is as privy to that fact as anyone, and has no issue with addressing the idea there are people who wish that The View would be canceled and taken off the air.

Not that hosting the morning series is extremely easy and peaceful for all involved — Raven-Symoné had lots of problems with it — but the show has been a staple of ABC’s daytime programming since 1997 (despite being different in many ways), and doesn’t appear to be in danger of exiting the airwaves. Goldberg addressed that issue during an episode in reference to California governor Gavin Newsome’s controversy-courting podcast, first saying that disagreements stem from viewers who make blanketed assumptions about them as hosts.

She began her point like this, which sparked some audible confusion from Joy Behar:

Once it was clear her point wasn't so swiftly relayed, Goldberg tried again:

To be clear, Goldberg isn't saying that The View's panel of outspoken personalities is completely absent from delivering opinionated coverage, because this show logically wouldn't exist if that were the case. It would have been canceled long ago after viewers stopped watching 4-6 women sitting next to each other very quietly and most certainly politely.

Nah, The View's biggest fans tune in specifically to see whatever messy thoughts and hot takes Whoopi & Co. have about headline-making news in the entertainment and political spheres. Which is what Goldberg was saying by pointing out that the hosts air their own judgments and assertions out for the world to see, but without telling anyone else that they should have the exact same opinions. She continued:

Now, the possibility exists that someone could look back over the past 28 years of The View episodes and pull out certain quote examples that counterpoint Goldberg's point. But those would still fall more under "exceptions" than "the rule."

The way to keep everyone's feelings from souring is as easy as not taking topical debates down to the level where it goes beyond the topic itself. As she put it:

It'd be interesting to hear what past hosts would have to say about whether that approach carried on behind the scenes, considering how steadfast someone like Candace Cameron-Bure has been about not returning despite being asked multiple times. Or how Meghan McCain can't seem to talk about the show without calling out former colleagues for backstage issues, and has said there's no chance in Hell she would return.

While it may be true that no job in the entertainment industry can be called easy, hosting a live talk show might be one of the most difficult on-camera gigs there is. Not only do hosts have to connect with their audience and guests, but if you happen to be on a panel show, you also have to connect with your co-hosts on a certain level. As it turns out, according to former The View host Raven-Symoné, the job can actually be harder and more stressful because of way more than just that.

What Did Raven-Symoné Say About Her Experience Hosting The View?

That’s So Raven and Raven’s Home lead Raven-Symoné may have survived her time as a child star, but it sounds like hosting The View may have scarred her for life. The actress, who’s also appeared on shows like black-ish and in movies like The Cheetah Girls franchise, was recently interviewed by fellow child star Josh Peck on his Good Guys podcast, and when he asked if she could disabuse him of the notion that hosting a daily show would be a “dream”...man, did she ever go in on how hard it is. Symoné responded:

The “Backflip” singer co-hosted along with Whoopi Goldberg (whom she later revealed gave off “lesbian vibes” while they worked together), Joy Behar, Rosie O’Donnell, Candace Cameron Bure and others while on the ABC hit from June 2015 through October 2016. I was right there with a lot of viewers when the show launched in 1997, and talking politics was always a part of it, but it’s not impossible that Symoné was unaware of that, or was specifically told that relatively light “pop culture” topics would be the focus.

As we know, very few co-hosts of this particular live daytime television show have come away with totally positive experiences. Though that is likely true for most jobs of any kind, we’ve heard a lot about things like Bure claiming that part of the reason she agreed to host was because producers told her, “We’re not really gonna talk about politics that much,” and the fact that working there gave her “PTSD” from the “stress and anxiety.”

Some of that, as you might imagine came from having to voice her opinions on various hot-button topics, and the now too old for Doctor Dolittle talent added to that, and noted:

Yeah. I’m nowhere near this situation and I’m getting the flop sweats just thinking about the potential stress this could cause. While Goldberg herself has previously down-played the rumors about backstage fighting, the simple truth is that one of the things The View is known for is the co-hosts engaging in intense verbal sparring on live TV.

Aside from that, they all have to open up about deep topics in a way that will expose them to critiques from viewers, and about everything from their point of view to how they express it, something Goldberg and former host Sherri Shepherd both spoke about. Symoné continued:

I must say, I believe this would also be “really scary” for someone who has never spoken from a script as well! Luckily, Raven-Symoné made it across to the other side and can laugh about some of her experiences there now.

It’s been an uncharacteristically quiet year from Wendy Williams, after it was revealed that the former talk show host had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and was living in a memory care facility. She’s certainly been talking recently, though, as she returned to the 2025 TV schedule to speak with her friends at The View, and she had some strong words for her guardian as she begged to regain control of her life and her money.

Wendy Williams has been planning a return to The View for years, and she finally got that chance, as a pre-record phone call aired March 14 between the co-hosts and the beloved media personality. Williams, speaking with her advocate Ginalisa Monterroso, first addressed reports that she was taken to the hospital for cognitive tests, confirming that she went to get bloodwork done for her thyroid condition and said she requested the cognitive tests. Williams said during a segment on the talk show:

The former host of The Wendy Williams Show went on to describe the assisted living facility where she's lived for almost a year and previously referred to as a “luxury prison.” She said she is not allowed to leave the floor or have visitors, so she generally just stays in her room. In Williams’ words:

At this point in the phone call, Sunny Anderson read a statement from the lawyer of Wendy Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrisey, saying the guardianship was established after a judge declared her “legally incapacitated” following the dementia diagnosis. The statement refuted Williams’ claims that she has been kept from her family and said the former talk show host is “receiving excellent medical care.”

Wendy Williams then said she wanted to be freed from Sabrina Morrisey’s care, referencing her guardian and the judge as she said:

Wendy Williams said it’s been over three years since the court-appointed guardianship began, and she wants to be given control of her life and her money.

Advocate Ginalisa Monterroso said this week that the 60-year-old was undergoing testing in hopes of getting her into a “less restricted environment.” We’ll have to see what happens after the test results come back, but for fans, it was certainly good to hear that familiar voice again, and we just hope the decisions that are made are in Wendy Williams’ best interest.

Nearly 30 years after its debut, The View remains a popular show, as the show’s panel welcomes an array of guests and discusses the issues of the day. A lot is typically said about the conversations had on the show, but the program’s hosts can also be subject to speculation as well. Rumors of firings can swirl around them, and series veterans Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg have been at the center of such chatter lately. As that chatter continues amid the 2025 TV schedule, Behar addressed those assumptions and more.

Joy Behar has never been one to mince words, whether she’s on the show or away from the stage. She caught up with The View’s companion podcast, Behind the Table, during which she spoke with the talk show’s EP, Brian Teta. While chatting, Teta brought up the dismissal rumors with Behar as well as other “crazy stories” involving her supposedly being arrested at an airport and making plans to leave the country. Behar (as seen on YouTube) dropped a four-word response to the firing chatter before addressing the other claims:

Through the years, the 82-year-old comedian and media personality has been subject to various rumors. In 2023, it was alleged that Joy Behar became embroiled in some drama with Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi of Jersey Shore, and it supposedly involved a bathroom confrontation. It was also rumored that Behar had been banned from one of Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Chicken restaurants. Shaq himself shot down that claim when he visited the daytime staple in 2024.

Back in 2013, the This Is My Life alum parted ways with the show in 2013, after having been with the program since its conception. Since return, the comic has joked about being “happy” that she was fired at the time, since a lot of her longtime co-hosts had already left the show. (Whoopi Goldberg, who was recently absent from the show, actually took a bit of offense to the comment.) The New York native certainly doesn’t mind airing her thoughts, and that likely plays into her rationale about whether she has a need to be liked by everyone:

Given those sentiments, we probably shouldn’t expect Joy Behar to kiss any kind of butt or humor rumors regarding her employment, personal health and more. All in all, it seems Joy Behar isn’t being ousted from the show either and, as far as we know, she hasn’t opted for retirement either. So fans can probably expect to see her and Whoopi Goldberg on screen with their colleagues for the foreseeable future.

Meghan Markle has a new show on Netflix, and like many things that involve the Duchess of Sussex, there was controversy before its premiere date even hit the 2025 TV schedule. Things haven’t exactly quieted down now that With Love, Meghan has been released, either, as a clip of Markle correcting Mindy Kaling on her name has gone viral. So, of course, when The Office alum visited The View, Whoopi Goldberg and the gang had to ask about it.

Mindy Kaling sat down with the co-hosts on ABC’s award-winning daytime talk show to promote her own new Netflix series Running Point (which debuted to mixed reviews), but the viral moment when Meghan Markle clarified to Kaling that her last name is “Sussex,” not “Markle” was definitely on everyone’s minds. Kaling said on The View:

Meghan Markle definitely has a way of evoking a reaction from people. In fact, it was former The View co-host Meghan McCain who spoke out against the release of With Love, Meghan amidst the Los Angeles wildfires, calling Markle “utterly tone deaf.” The premiere date of the duchess’ lifestyle series was ultimately pushed back but is now available to stream with a Netflix subscription.

So it’s fitting that the current cast of The View would be the ones to bring up the latest headlines involving Prince Harry’s wife. As they said on the show, Meghan Markle and Mindy Kaling were making sandwiches and talking about fast food (which Jack in the Box has totally capitalized on) when The Mindy Project star marveled:

As Mindy Kaling said on The View, the clips circulating on social media focus on her facial expression in the aftermath of that exchange, and regardless of whether or not Kaling had forgotten about the interaction in the months that followed, she really did look stung in the moment. But only she can say how she really felt.

Personally, I don’t think either woman was in the wrong. Mindy Kaling can’t be at fault for referring to Meghan Markle by her professional name, and if Markle wants to be called “Sussex,” rather than “Markle,” she should be able to tell people that.

SNL 50 was a night of laughter and surprises. The old guard met the new guard, as the historic show saluted some of the names that made Saturday Night Live legendary and honored one of the best sketch comedy shows of all time. Lorne Michaels pulled out all the stops for the 50th, big names like Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, and Bill Murray in attendance, and new stars like Marcello Hernández and Sarah Sherman were incorporated into the event as well. It truly was a night to remember but, unfortunately, shortly after it, a number of attendees got sick, including Whoopi Goldberg.

She was absent from The View this week because of that illness, and Steve Martin revealed that Martin Short got COVID after the event. Now, many are calling back to Colin Jost’s Weekend Update joke, which seemed to predict the situation.

Steve Martin Announced That Martin Short Got COVID After Attending SNL 50

This all seemed to start with an Instagram post from Steve Martin, who announced yesterday that he and Martin Short had to reschedule some of their shows because Short had tested positive for COVID-19.

He also revealed that Maya Rudolph tested positive shortly after the SNL 50 festivities, which she was a huge part of. Martin hilariously revealed this news along with a photo of Short and Rudolph sharing a chaste kiss on the SNL red carpet, jokingly suggesting this was where the COVID was exchanged. He captioned the photo:

Martin connected the dots between the COVID Short and Rudolph came down with and SNL 50. However, they're not the only ones who got sick after the show, Whoopi Goldberg had to step away from The View this week because she had the flu.

Whoopi Goldberg Got The Flu After SNL 50

Whoopi Goldberg, who was present at Saturday Night Live’s 50th celebration too, also was revealed to be sick in the week following the festivities. According to Entertainment Weekly, the comedian was missing from The View for two days this week because she had the flu.

It wasn't suggested that she caught the illness at SNL 50, as Steve Martin did with Martin Short, yet this coincidence is notable, especially considering how many people were in the small 8H studio at 30 Rock for the show. They were also all present at the incredible SNL Homecoming concert, which took place two days before.

The flu circulating the events, in addition to COVID, is certainly possible, and Colin Jost even mentioned that during the special's Weekend Update.

Colin Jost's Weekend Update Joke Seemed To Predict This

This whole pattern of illness seems to have been called early by long-running Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost, who made a joke about the situation during his segment of the anniversary broadcast.

He noted the number of illnesses going around New York City, and the irony of having many living legends over the age of 60 in attendance for the 50th celebration, saying:

The joke resulted in a pretty big laugh but, considering how many entertainers became ill after the event, many of which we probably don’t yet know about, it feels pretty ominous now.

The irony is crazy, but it also goes to show that illness spreading in such a tight studio is certainly possible. You can see the entirety of this joke and others in the Weekend Update clip below:

Hopefully, no one is too sick and all of these beloved comedians and creatives will get better soon. The frigid weather in New York City certainly isn’t helping the situation, and with all the hustle and bustle of the 50th, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone involved needs a chance to recover. The U.S. Presidential Inauguration is next week amid the 2025 TV schedule, and preparations are underway. Recently, it was reported that a major name in the music industry is set to perform at the event. Country singer Carrie Underwood has officially been tapped to perform “America the Beautiful” during the proceedings. Underwood’s decision to appear has been met with backlash from within some circles. The topic was also recently broached on The View, and co-host Whoopi Goldberg explained why she has to “support” Underwood.

After news of Carrie Underwood’s latest gig broke days ago, a number of commenters took to X and chastised the 41-year-old Grammy winner for choosing to take part. Their responses seemed to suggest that they specifically took issue with Underwood taking part in an event centered around U.S. Presidential Elect Donald Trump. Nevertheless, there is a subsection of the songstress’ fandom that did appear enthusiastic over the news.

During The View, co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin opined that the public should move past the era of canceling people for their political leanings and expressed her belief that the “Before He Cheats” singer won’t be hurt by the move in the long run. Griffin’s colleague, Joy Behar, said that she wouldn’t have taken the job had she been in the singer’s position while also saying that by joining the event she’s “normalizing” the soon-to-be second term president. In the YouTube clip, Whoopi Goldberg then offered up the following response:

Politics play into The View in a major way, with the team even having been recently tasked with reading legal notes from Donald Trump's team. What Whoopi Goldberg appears to convey is the notion that a fellow entertainer has the right to partake in an event for whatever reason they have. On that note, she also suggests that she can support one’s decision without actually showing interest.

As mentioned by the Oscar winner, Carrie Underwood has mostly stayed out of politics over the course of her career. She released a statement shared with THR upon agreeing to perform, saying that she was “honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.” She also expressed her “love” for her country and stated that was “humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

This recent development arrives amid the fan-favorite musical artist’s recent return to TV. Last summer, it was reported that American Idol had found a replacement judge for Katy Perry. That eventually turned out to be Carrie Underwood, and the decision was met with praise from fellow judge Lionel Richie as well as other music industry alums. Underwood’s judging philosophy is to be both “kind” and “constructive” when addressing contestants.

It remains to be seen how the Inauguration will ultimately pan out as well as how people will continue to react to the “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer’s decision to take part. Regardless of that, it seems that while she won’t actually be watching, Whoopi Goldberg will support the artist’s right to perform as she pleases.

Former co-host Candace Cameron Bure revealed that she turned down The View “multiple times” before her one-season stint and explained how they eventually won her over.

Candace Cameron Bure — best known for Full House and Great American Family’s TV rom-coms (she’s got three on the 2024 Christmas movie schedule) — joined The View in 2015, but she stayed for just one season. The co-hosts are typically of varying ages, races, economic backgrounds and political leanings, but at the time Bure was the only panelist with a conservative view. She opened up recently to Allie Schnacky on a clip from The JWLKRS Podcast, revealing just how hard they fought to get her on the show, despite her objections. The actress said:

It sounds like ABC really wanted Candace Cameron Bure’s contribution, and the powers that be were willing to make any and all arrangements for it to happen. In the end, she agreed, saying she felt God was calling her to do the show, but that certainly didn’t make it easy.

For one thing, the co-hosts did not back away from the subject of politics as she’d been promised, which she’s said resulted in her doing hours of homework each night to be able to contribute to the conversation. The network did keep its promise regarding travel, but flying back and forth from Los Angeles to New York every week proved to be too much, and she said The View was the “most difficult job I’ve had.”

CCB blamed that constant travel when she left the daytime talk show in 2016, but she has since opened up about the other aspects that she said gave her PTSD. She’s voiced her opinion that the show needs more than one conservative co-host, because she often had to fight to speak her mind, which was especially difficult knowing she was the only one at the table to have her opinions.

Needless to say, Candace Cameron Bure has no interest in returning to The View full-time, but she maintains that she’s grateful she accepted the opportunity because of how much she learned and grew. I guess ABC’s persistence was worth it then?

Lindsay Lohan has had quite a go of it in Hollywood but has made it to the other side better than ever, and with a few titles on our 2024 movie schedule, her most recent being Our Little Secret. In a recent interview, she casually slipped in one of the best Mean Girls quotes and I’m so down for her vibe.

The Lohanaissance is just getting started with another cheesy but somehow watchable holiday movie but with Freakier Friday around the corner on our 2025 movie schedule, it’s no better time to get in on it all. She’s been steadily getting back to her magnetic onscreen ways now that she’s married, had a baby boy, and has continued to secure her place and movie partnership with Netflix.

While on The View promoting her new 2024 Netflix movie and TV schedule film, the group chatted about the star's work in front of the camera and behind it, home life, amongst other sights she has for herself. When they touched on the subject of her baby growing up she slipped in the ‘fetchest’ movie reference you’re all hoping for. She said of how she’ll act when her son turns 20:

The iconic line of course was met with cheers and applause from the hosts as well as the audience. I mean, how could it not? I think it’s a great sign that Lohan can reference some of her most popular work with a laugh for the fans, as well as reunite with her plastic costars. Mean Girls changed the cultural landscape when it premiered and it’s continued to have a life of its own–including the Broadway musical adaptation and its movie (which Lohan made a cameo in).

In all seriousness though, the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen star returning to Hollywood is wonderful to see, especially to her Disney roots. She shared how great it is to return to those lots because of the movies she made were there, including Freaky Friday. The 38-year-old has been dropping a lot of teasers about the nostalgic sequel, and fans like me are over the moon about it (dying to see that Pink Slip reunion, and hopefully, Curtis will join in with the band again).

As a fan, I hope Lohan has nothing but fun and continues to amuse the crowds with her work as she rises again. And, as for her son, I hope he will learn that he does in fact have one of the coolest moms out there.

The Real Story Behind Joy Behar Joking About Sara Haines’ College Relationship

If you watched The View this week, you may have noticed the moment Whoopi Goldberg called out co-host Sara Haines' parents in the audience. Behar brought up a story out of left field, asking her co-host, "I have to ask her a question: Are you going to bring up that lesbian relationship you said you had or not?"

Haines laughed at what happened and told her dad to grab "earmuffs" in relation to Behar bringing up a relationship that had apparently "happened at Smith College," but the narrative after the episode aired was that the host had outed her co-star.

While headlines were fairly inflammatory after the incident, an insider reveals this was not information that Sara Haines had shared privately with Ms. Behar and the other The View hosts. Instead, it was a story that had been bandied about freely during a previous episode of the hit longtime-daytime series.

Ms. Haines herself had brought it up on set during an off-air session with a studio audience. That's the big reason her co-host was “not reprimanded” for the incident, though it's not the first time Ms. Behar has been part of an awkward moment on The View.

How Does Sara Haines Reportedly Feel About The Incident?

Insiders close to The View have made it clear that the early reports that used language like “outing" Ms. Haines are not completely accurate to what happened. In fact, Haines shared the story of dating another woman during her college years during an earlier taping -- but it was during a moment in which The View was not filming, so it never made the air.

An insider reiterated to Page Six that the conversation had not been a "private" one, also saying:

Interestingly, when the episode aired, it was pointed out the comment had been made previously, but as Sunny Hostin then noted, the difference is that Haines had shared the story in a semi-public forum. Now, however, the story is "on air" or fully on the record for anyone who watched the episode live or caught the quotes later on the Internet.

Ms. Behar has a history of being outspoken on The View, and was once even fired from the daytime talk show; this is another instance of an out-of-left-field comment happening. The moment comes just a few weeks after the 82-year-old host has spoken out about potentially leaving The View in coming years (2022 was once bandied about as the year she'd make her exit and we're well beyond that), making the timing of the awkward moment comment-worthy.

The good news? It doesn't sound like Haines is upset her personal history was shared, but it still does lead to questions about the ramifications of being too outspoken on live TV, particularly in an era when information is decimated online in the blink of an eye.

Meghan McCain has made no secret of how she feels about The View, on which she was a co-host for four years. In July 2021 she opened up about how motherhood and the pandemic influenced her decision to leave the show, but it wasn’t long before she started speaking more candidly about The View’s alleged backstage problems.

As the only conservative on the show, Meghan McCain felt like it was an “extremely isolating” situation, where her colleagues were “uncomfortable” around her and negative stories about her were reportedly leaked to the press. She was involved in heated spats with Joy Behar, and has called out what she says is “toxic mean girl” behavior amongst the co-hosts.

It’s no surprise, then, that Meghan McCain has said there’s “no chance in hell” she’d return to the daytime talk show. You can catch The View at 11 a.m. ET weekdays on ABC.

As anyone with a television is well aware at this point, the upcoming Presidential election and the race to it has taken over large chunks of the 2024 Fall TV schedule, from the usual cable news coverage to channel-spanning primetime debates. Politics is also a frequently discussed topic on the daytime chat show The View, whose hosts recently took aim at Diddy for hoarding lubricants and at Anna Delvey being allowed on Dancing with the Stars.

Of course, the race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is also a core topic of discussion at times, and whenever the all-female panel gets into those conversations, specifically in reference to the controversy regarding the 2020 election, they’re required to read off the legal note from Trump’s team that states he “denied any wrongdoing related to the 2020 election.” Indeed, once the conversation was wrapping up on the October 2 installment, someone offscreen motioned for Hostin to read the aforementioned note.

That moment sparked moderator Whoopi Goldberg to temporarily delay the impending commercial break by questioning the sporadically seen executive producer Brian Teta about the practice. Here’s how that exchange went down:

• WHOOPI GOLDBERG: I find that so interesting. We have to do these legal notes each time to say what has been proven to be a fact. We have to deny it on their behalf. Is that right?
• BRIAN TETA: We have to state the denials that they’ve stated.
• WHOOPI GOLDBERG: One day you’ll tell me why. I think I’ve told you a couple of times but we can talk about it again. I find it odd when everybody has seen it, and they know that it’s not necessarily the truth.
• BRIAN TETA: We're showing what [Trump’s team] has said on the record.
• ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: We can do it off-air, guys.

It's unclear what, if anything, was discussed during the commercial break, at least for those at home. Audience members who were present for the taping may have some idea. But fans probably shouldn't expect to find clues about it within The View's episodic video that was uploaded to YouTube, because that portion of the conversation was edited out.

The Times Donald Trump Apparently Turned Down Appearing On The View

Back in April, around the time when Brian Teta signed a lucrative four-year extension to his contract to stay on as The View's executive producer, he talked to Deadline about the thought process behind booking guests during political races, and how the creative team plans for avoiding potential controversy. And in that convo, he addressed the fact that Trump and his namesake son have both been on the show in the past, saying:

When asked if there was a chance The View would welcome Trump back ahead of the 2024 election, Teta shared a bit of a non-optimistic answer, based on the former POTUS' past refusals. As the EP put it:

The View is indeed a far different show than it once was in the early days with Barbara Walters as moderator, although I'm not certain if that version of the show would have had Donald Trump on as a political candidate either, if for different reasons.

Yesterday's arrest of Diddy has become the major story celebrity story of the moment. While the rapper is facing some serious consequences as he is currently in jail in New York on federal charges, some of the information that’s being released is causing some nervous laughter. One of the details is that when Diddy’s home was raided earlier this year, apparently a thousand bottles of lube were recovered.

On the evening of September 16, Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested and the singer has been charged with sex trafficking and racketeering among other charges. On The View recently, and posted by Page Six on TikTok, the case was discussed and co-hosts Alyssa Farrah Griffith and Whoopi Goldberg laughed at the idea that lubricant “is not a crime.”

The lubricant was apparently discovered during a raid of Diddy's home by federal agents back in March. Video of the event went viral due to the considerable force that was brought to bear. From that point, it became clear that Diddy was suspected of some sort of criminal activity and that charges of some kind would eventually be filed. Now that the arrest has happened, more details are coming to light.

While certainly not a crime, the lubricant is potentially evidence of the alleged sex trafficking that Diddy has been charged with, specifically the “freak offs” which was reportedly the name for sex parties Diddy is accused to have had, which may have included underage girls and people who did not consent.

The hosts on The View aren’t the only ones using the excessive lube stock as a punchline. 50 Cent, one of Diddy’s rap contemporaries made reference to it on Twitter. The two rappers have had an ongoing feud for years and 50 Cent is producing a documentary that is coming to Netflix about Diddy’s situation and current legal issues.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to all the charges in New York. However, he remains in jail right now because he was denied bail. His attorneys are appealing the bail decision. They had asked that Diddy be released on $50 million bail and wear an ankle monitor.

Diddy’s legal woes began in the fall of 2023 when ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura accused the rapper of abuse. While he denied the allegations a video of the abuse surfaced soon after. The federal investigation into Combs followed soon after, and a series of seemingly unrelated lawsuits, including one from a former band member, have piled on top.

50 Cent’s documentary is certainly going to have a lot more to cover now that Diddy has actually been arrested and charged in this case. The View will also likely have plenty more to talk about as this case will likely remain in the news for the foreseeable future.

While Dancing with the Stars list of celebrities often includes celebs that have broad appeal, the show has been known to court controversy in the past. The show has included political figures that have inflamed some, but one of the new season’s dancers, Anna Delvey, has not only caused a lot of people to talk, it’s now resulted in lawyers getting involved to correct the talk.

Anna Delvey was convicted of grand larceny in 2019 after posing as a wealthy German heiress in order to defraud people and businesses. Her story became widely known thanks to the Netflix series Inventing Anna. The fact that Delvey was going to appear on Dancing with the Stars became a recent topic of conversation on The View as some of the hosts were not happy.

What The View Said About Anna Delvey

Several of The View’s hosts were critical of the decision to bring Anna Delvey onto Dancing with the Stars due to her criminal past. Delvey has been under house arrest since being released from prison due to the Russian-born woman having violated her visa. She needed to get special permission from ICE in order to compete on the show.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg also suggested that Delvey hadn’t fully paid her debts, and she still owed money to the victims of her fraud. However, it turns out that’s not necessarily the case. Delvey has reportedly paid the restitution she was ordered to, including using the $320,000 she was paid by Netflix for the rights to her story to cover her many debts.

It seems Delvey's lawyer was in contact with the show sometime after the initial statements. This resulted in The View co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffith reading a statement on the September 16 episode of the show which stated the claims of the lawyer, that all debts were paid.

While the statement on The View didn't technically apologize for the previous statements. That's how it is being presented by Delvey's side. In a statement (via People) Anna Delvey’s lawyer accepted the "apology" on his client's behalf. The statement said…

Delvey has spoken about wanting to move on from her from her past, and appearing on Dancing with the Stars is likely part of that attempt at reinvention. If you have a Disney+ subscription you can watch her take the dance floor tonight. It appears this issue is now in the past for all involved.

While pro dancer Artem Chigvintsev’s domestic dispute arrest seemed like it would be the most controversial news item connected to the world of Dancing with the Stars, the ABC competition series itself unveiled that the convicted felon and con artist Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) is part of the Season 33 lineup including U.S. Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik and others who didn’t require special government permission to be part of the upcoming TV schedule.

Delvey and her partner Erza Sosa were interviewed on Entertainment Tonight, and her glib comments were enough to send Whoopi Goldberg and her fellow panelists on The View to go off on the disgraced socialite, whose popularity exploded due to Netflix’s lawsuit-provoking limited series Inventing Anna. Wearing both sunglasses and an ankle monitor — she’s on house arrest outside of reality TV duties — she said this when asked about being nervous or intimidated about joining DWTS.

It was addressed by Entertainment Tonight that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) granted Anna Delvey special permission for her Dancing with the Stars debut. It seems like that not only includes appearing and competing on the show, but promoting it as well.

How Whoopi Goldberg And The View Hosts Reacted

After setting up the interview clip by calling Anna Delvey a "convicted artist who became a pop culture sensation," The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg laid out what the real issue is with the scammer landing a spot on a broadcast network (and streaming) series. In her words:

No details have seemingly been unveiled regarding how and why ICE gave the go-ahead for a criminal to enjoy the luxury of being a reality TV star, but Goldberg spoke to the arguable double-standard that allows Delvey such access.

Sunny Hostin spoke up in agreement, pointing out Delvey's past crimes and asking why she isn't still suffering further consequences despite not having righted the actions that landed her behind bars to begin with. As Hostin put it:

It feels like that. If we think about it, she defrauded so many people and then spent about two years in prison, and then had to spend another 18 months in prison for overstaying her welcome and overstaying her Visa. So she committed another crime. And what is the — I don’t know — consequence of it? A federal bejeweled ankle monitor and a spot on a television show. And you think of Gypsy Rose, who…some people say she didn’t kill her mother, some people say she did put a hit on her mother, and now all of a sudden she’s got a reality show.

Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in at that point, and explained the specific perspective she takes in situations like this, offering Gypsy Role Blanchard an olive branch for the dues she'd paid. In Griffin's words:

To be sure, Anna Delvey did say around the time of the Netflix series with Julia Garner that she was intent on moving away from her scammer persona in the years that followed. It's impossible to say whether or not joining Dancing with the Stars is a functional step on that path, but it's one she's taking nonetheless.

When all was said and done, and you can bet that more words were shared about it, Griffin still admitted that she'd be tuning in regardless as a diehard DWTS fan. And she won't be alone.

Dancing with the Stars Season 33 will premiere live on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesday, September 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

With ABC’s The View making big changes ahead of its new season hitting the upcoming TV schedule, it feels like a ripe time for reflecting on the long-running chat show’s roots. To that end, O.G. co-host Debbie Matenopoulos shared her thoughts on The View’s current era, as moderated by Whoopi Goldberg, as compared to the early years when creator Barbara Walters was running things.

Walters, who passed away in 2022, was initially joined at the table by Matenopoulos, Star Jones, Joy Behar and Meredith Viera, though none were still on the panel during the esteemed journalist’s final season. Having been involved during only the first two seasons, Matenopoulos can certainly speak to the ways the project started out as compared to how the episodes are laid out on TV in recent years. And she thinks it’s pulled a complete 180 from what her former boss intended.

Speaking with Michael Fairman about her temporary stint on General Hospital and its skincare tie-in website, Matenopoulos touched on why she thinks The View feels so different from the original plan laid out by Barbara Walters and former executive producer Bill Geddie. In her words:

Though it may sound like she’s being overtly judgmental with that assessment, this isn’t exactly similar to instances where former hosts have railed against The View such as Meghan McCain. Matenopoulos is more or less pointing out the obvious here, since it’d be hard to deny her statement with all the political coverage covered on a mostly daily basis.

She continued, positing that difference isn’t necessarily a bad thing:

The former Home & Family host has spoken out against the The View’s more political nature in the past, but with the context that she herself is not one to readily get into confrontations. Thus, she’s not a fan of conversations that lead to arguments and angst.

For Debbie Matenopoulos, the point of the show was what Barbara Walters set out for it to be: a laidback spot for women to get together and gab about whatever interested them. And it was meant to be in opposition to programming where more political content could readily be found. She continued:

Would Barbara Walters have welcomed Deadpool’s mom to the show? Probably not. Okay, I guess that was technically just Ryan Reynolds’ mom who appeared and not the woman who birthed the Merc with the Mouth, but still.

The View is set to return to ABC with its new Hudson Square stage set-up this fall, with an exact premiere date yet to be revealed. And fans can catch Matenopoulos’ two-episode guest spot on General Hospital with a Hulu subscription.

An EGOT-winning comedian who’s known for delivering Oscar-worthy dramatic roles on the big screen, Whoopi Goldberg is far more commonly known for bringing a completely different kind of drama to TV audiences via The View. The oft-political chat show’s hiatus from the 2024 TV schedule is busier than the traditional summer break, as the long-running ABC hit will be filming in a brand new studio when it returns in September. But its moderator reportedly isn’t so pleased with the new digs.

At least, it’s alleged that Goldberg was upset over her own personal set up at the new studio located in downtown Manhattan. For all that this “brand-new” location is “state of the art,” as Sunny Hostin put it in the video announcement, the architects and designers apparently didn’t put enough thought into dressing room bathrooms. According to The Sun, the Ghost vet is highly displeased about having to shift into a new dressing room that doesn’t have the same accommodations she’d grown accustomed to previously.

The View was filmed years ago at its 320 W. 66th St. studio, where it shared space with the network’s soap opera productions, before shifting farther down the road to its most recent Upper West Side setting for the past decade or so. Apparently at the latter studio, Whoopi Goldberg’s dressing room was the largest of all the show’s regulars, and it reportedly came equipped with a full ensuite bathroom, complete with a shower.

Within her previous dressing room, Goldberg is said to have had a big table where morning meetings were held, requiring the other hosts to gather in their co-star’s dressing room each day. (Save for Fridays, which have long been her day off.) She wasn’t the only one on the panel to have her own facilities, as Joy Behar’s prior digs also had a bathroom, but apparently not one as large as Goldberg’s.

As one might imagine, Whoopi apparently wasn’t quick to get comfortable in the new setting. The outlet states that she made the unexpected decision to move her production company’s office away from its uptown location and right next to the new studios where The View will be filming for the ongoing future. According to a source:

While I can’t say I’ll ever have the power and sway to shift a company’s address in order to use the bathroom privately, I certainly can’t hate on anyone else who chooses to do so. If I could, I’d put a full bathroom next to every room I work in, plus a kitchen and home theater.

Broadway World reported earlier in August that Goldberg will be showcasing her on-stage talents for another project outside of The View in the near future. Having shared in Thoroughly Modern Millie’s 2002 Tony Awards win for Best Musical as a producer, Goldberg is set to bring her theatre acting skills out as Miss Hannigan for a set of upcoming ANNIE performances in New York city from December 11-January 5. We’ll assume that project’s dressing room situation will be handled accordingly.

Will the dressing room situation be enough to convince Whoopi Goldberg to take another break from The View so she can reunite with Jennifer Love Hewitt in order to give millennial fans another Sister Act sequel? I mean, I can’t say I’m hoping for her to be miserable, but I do miss me some Sister Mary Clarence.

Shaquille O’Neal is easily one of the greatest basketball players to ever set foot on a court, and he’s also arguably one of the most outspoken athletes the world has ever seen. The player-turned-media personality rarely ever holds back his thoughts on a subject, and that’s particularly true when it comes to rumors. One particular claim that’s apparently been floating around as of late is that O’Neal banned The View’s Joy Behar from one of the eateries he owns. So, when the Diesel himself appeared on the talk show, he didn’t hold back, even humorously calling out friend and colleague Charles Barkley on air. 

The 52-year-old four-time NBA appeared on the long-running talk show just recently to promote his new ABC game show, Lucky 13. Before he and the panel of pundits got down to the nitty gritty though, 81-year-old Joy Behar wanted to discuss the rumor that she’d been kicked out of one of Shaq’s Big Chicken restaurants. The former Los Angeles Laker quickly make a blunt – but humorous – declaration before Behar could get into her spiel: 

Jokes like that aside though, the Steel star has proven to be a generous person. 2022 alone saw Shaq pay the bill for an entire restaurant and donate money towards the victims of the shooting at Tops Friendly Markets. Keeping in that spirit of generosity, the Big Shamrock presented Joy Behar with a lifetime pass to his Big Chicken restaurant chain. You can check out the sweet moment in the video down below:

The pair’s exchange would certainly seem to indicate that this whole situation is simply water under the bridge at this point as far as Shaquille O’Neal and Joy Behar are concerned. Though O’Neal may or may not still have a bone to pick with Charles Barkley, though. Considering Barkley’s personality, I’m sure he’d be hilariously unbothered by that. If anything, O’Neal’s recent call-out makes me pine for new episodes of Inside the NBA, which may be cancelled after this upcoming season. Like so many others, I’m hoping that’s not the case, but only time will tell. (In the meantime, I'd expect fans to keep posting funny clips of Barkley and Shaq from past episodes as a way of rallying behind the series.)

At present, it’s just sweet that Joy Behar and Shaq cleared up the confusion regarding that rumor. If I were Joy Behar, I’d definitely make good use of that pass. The Big Chicken menu has some delicious-looking entrees so, needless to say, Behar is quite lucky to have that card.

There might be a stereotypical image of celebrities and how they behave in people’s minds, but the truth is there’s no standard. We’re lucky enough to interview a few dozen here at CinemaBlend each month, and some of them come off like normal people you’d stand in line next to at Panda Express and some of them very much do not. Apparently it’s the same way on The View too, as longtime host Meghan McCain opened up about her time interacting with celebrities there and one who came with an entourage so big she still thinks about it.

The political commentator was on her podcast Citizen McCain this past week when the subject of Jennifer Lopez came up. She said she was reluctant to talk about her because she feels people are so negative about her online that it feels like bullying but eventually admitted she found her “deeply unpleasant” when she visited the show. She also said she had the single biggest entourage of anyone she ever interacted with. Here’s a portion of her quote… 

During Meghan McCain’s four years or so on the show, a lot of celebrities passed through The View. From politicians to athletes to movie stars to authors to practically any other type of famous person you can think of, the ladies on the daytime talker almost certainly interviewed many examples from each category. So, to stand out as the single person was the biggest entourage is quite an accomplishment in excess, especially amidst all the other drama that routinely goes on at The View.

That being said, Jennifer Lopez has never been shy about excess. She once bought a house with 24 bathrooms. So far this year, she’s released an album, a documentary about that album, a musical adaptation of the album featuring various celebrities, a Netflix movie and also hosted Saturday Night Live. She rarely does anything half-heartedly and without fanfare, which, sure, is often a source of ridicule and negativity for her but is also partly the reason why she’s one of the most famous people in the world. She’s that stereotypical version of a Hollywood celebrity in all the best and worst ways, and that’s really appealing to some people and really off-putting to others.

As per usual, Lopez has been the subject of near-constant attention from the press over the past few months as rumors about her relationship with husband Ben Affleck continue to swirl. Maybe they’re on their way to a divorce. Maybe they’re just in the midst of a rough patch. Or maybe they’re totally fine. I really have no idea, but whatever happens, I do know J Lo will come out the other side with a smile on her face and an unnecessary large entourage and I wouldn’t want it any other way. 

Ryan Reynolds is a massive movie star, an incredibly shrewd businessman and a humorous verbal, sparring partner for Hugh Jackman. Aside from all that though, he’s also a man who loves his mother. Over the years, the wickedly funny Canadian actor has spoken about his mom, Tamara Lee Reynolds, and expressed his admiration for her. He’s even made a few playful jokes about her as well. Reynolds seems to be a good son, and I’d say that he just earned some major brownie points. That’s because he recently took his mama to taping of The View, and there’s a video of their outing that’s enough to make Reynolds’ Deadpool blush. 

The mother-and-son duo were among the audience members who were in attendance for the show’s Monday, June 10, episode. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg humorously pointed the two out to the crowd, noting the unexpected nature of their presence. Goldberg then asked what brought the two of them to the studio, and the Adam Project actor explained. As it turns out, Mrs. Reynolds was in New York from Vancouver to see her grandchildren. During her visit, she told her son that it was her dream to go see The View being taped. And, lo and behold, the A-lister made it happen. Seriously, this is just too sweet and on multiple levels. The mere sight of Ryan Reynolds and his mother together, just casually sitting in the audience, is lovely enough. But the fact that he managed to fulfil an aspiration of his mother’s just makes it that much more sentimental. Also, as per usual, the Red Notice actor tossed out some solid jokes. (I’m still chuckling over the “Blake’s husband” quip he made at his own expense.) But, in all seriousness, kudos to him for making his mom’s dream come true. 

Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool may be snarky, profane and cynical though, underneath all of that, his red suit and horribly scarred skin, I truly believe he has a heart of gold. Though, let’s be real, if his heart really was made of gold, he’d probably sell it. Nevertheless, he does have a sentimental side, and I really think even he could appreciate the bond between Ryan Reynolds and his mom.

Speaking of Tamara Lee Reynolds, in 2020, the matriarch actually found herself embroiled in the (faux) feud between Ryan and Hugh Jackman. Mother’s Day of that year saw Jackman share a snarky compliment for Mrs. Reynolds. The Australian actor mused that for “having brought up a son the likes of Ryan, I hereby nominate you for sainthood.” And, later in the year, Ryan jokingly made up with his mom after she seemingly took Jackman’s side in the feud. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Mother Reynolds become even more humorously intertwined in the humorous drama between her son and his latest co-star. 

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will star alongside each other in the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine. In the upcoming Marvel movie, Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth must team up with Jackman’s Logan to face an enemy that could threaten the multiverse. While I believed Wilson might blush at the sight of Reynolds being with his mother, I don’t expect to see him do that too often when he’s with his adamantium-clawed partner. 

There’s a firm chance that amid the film’s press tour, Ryan Reynolds may end up heading back to The View to discuss it. And, if that happens, I’d love to see his mother join him at the studio again. That would certainly be cute, though I’m not quite sure that could match the sheer levels of adorableness that the video of their first joint visit gives off. 

You can check out Deadpool & Wolverine when it opens in theaters on July 26 as part of the 2024 movie schedule. I’m tempted to assume that someone probably wouldn’t want to take their mother to a showing of the violent and raunchy flick but, of course, I could very well be mistaken.
