Tyra Banks reportedly isn’t pleased with how she’s utilized in Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model, an in-depth documentary released by Netflix this year. It was that displeasure that apparently prompted Banks to file suit against the streamer and others for multiple alleged offenses like breach of contract and false light. Since news of the suit broke, two former contestants from the reality competition series at the center of the doc have spoken out. And the two series alums didn’t mince words when sharing their takes.

Per reports, one of Banks’ key issues with the doc is that the “three-and-a-half-hour” interview she participated in for the show is only cut down to “16 minutes” across the three episodes. With that, Banks argues that the final edit of the doc misrepresents her, and her legal team also asserts that much of “accountability Ms. Banks took” for claims leveled at her by other series veterans was cut out. In addition to false light and breach of contract, Banks is also suing for alleged defamation by implication and false light.

Adrianne Curry, who won the first cycle of ANTM back in 2003, caught wind of the lawsuit and took to Instagram to issue a response. The media personality posted a video and, via her caption, she mused that “Tyra doesn't like being ‘edited’," before quipping, “Welcome to the party, pal,” (a nod to one of Bruce Willis’ famous lines from Die Hard). In the clip itself, Curry – who’s been on the receiving end of backlash herself in recent years – dropped a blunt response to Banks’ apparent disdain for the docuseries edit:

The other former contestant to speak out on the lawsuit was Angelea Preston, who competed and won Season 17 of America’s Next Top Model before her title was removed due to her having formerly worked as an escort. While speaking with EW, Preston opined that if Banks’ claims about the documentary creating a “false narrative” around her are correct, then it’s “karma” for her work on ANTM. Many who’ve competed on the show have long made claims about situational manipulation and selective editing having been implemented. Preston also shared a direct message for Banks that mirrored Curry’s take:

Preston, who tried to sue Banks for $3 million in 2014 over her disqualification, further alleged that she and others were subject to unfavorable edits during their time on ANTM. During her interview with EW, Preston addressed Banks again by asking her a series of hypothetical questions:

When it comes to Banks’ suit, Netflix isn’t the only defendant named, as the docuseries’ co-directors, Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy, are as well alongside Netflix Music, EverWonder Studio and 89 Blocks Holdings. Banks argues that Loushy and Sivan are withholding footage from her interview for the doc. Per her suit, Banks wants a jury trial and is seeking unspecified punitive damages. As of this writing, neither Netflix nor EverWonder have released statements.

Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model proved not to be a fluff piece on the eponymous series but more of an examination of show participants’ experiences, both positive and negative. The show proved to be a hit with Netflix subscription holders upon its release this past February, and it has received strong reviews from critics. As Tyra Banks proceeds with her lawsuit aimed at the production, time will tell if more series vets choose to share their reactions as Angelea Preston and Adrianne Curry have.

Earlier this year, Netflix’s 2026 release schedule ushered in the premiere of Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model, a three-part documentary series on the eponymous reality competition series. The show features various interviews with the long-running show’s former contestants and hosts, including series creator Tyra Banks. Now, it seems Banks has taken issue with the streamer, as she’s formally suing the company in connection to her involvement in the doc. And Banks’ lawsuit lays out her rationale for taking legal action.

Banks is specifically filing suit over alleged defamation by implication, breach of contract, false endorsement and false light. Aside from Netflix, other defendants named in the lawsuit include against Netflix as well as 89 Blocks Holdings, EverWonder Studio, Netflix Music and documentary co-directors Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy, per Variety. 52-year-old Banks reportedly takes issue with the “three-and-a-half-hour” interview she did being cut down to only “16 minutes.”

Upon the doc’s release, a lot was said about Banks’ segments as well as claims made against her from others who were involved with the show during the early aughts. Per the lawsuit, Banks believes her interview was “reassembled to support a false and defamatory narrative unrelated to what she actually expressed.” The media personality’s lawyers also allege that the “accountability Ms. Banks took” for certain situations was left out of the final edit. Additionally, the suit reads:

Ahead of Reality Check’s release, some viewers were seemingly of the impression that it would be a fluffy piece on the inner workings of the UPN/CW/VH1 show that ran for 24 seasons. Sivan and Loushy’s doc actually features intimate stories, with various series alums sharing their specific experiences. More than a few accusations were leveled against Banks, who was accused of not taking accountability for some of the over-the-top situations that occurred on the show. Another notable topic was Banks’ handling of a contestant, Shandi Sullivan, having sex while being blackout drunk amid production.

Banks, who’s received backlash over the years for varying aspects of the series, also made headlines due to comments made by former friend and fellow judge Miss J Alexander, who claimed Banks “reached out” but didn’t visit him after he suffered a stroke that left him unable to walk or talk. (Alexander has since relearned how to speak.) Via her lawsuit, Banks responded to some of the claims leveled against her, and her lawyers also laid out her response to the Sullivan matter:

Tyra Banks is currently seeking an “appropriate” amount of punitive damages as part of this case and wants a jury trial. All the while, Reality Check: Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model has received critical acclaim, and it trended high amongst titles available to Netflix subscription holders. As of this writing, neither Netflix nor any of the other parties named in the case have formally responded to Banks’ lawsuit.

At one point in time America's Next Top Model was considered one of the best reality shows in the world. It was wildly popular during its heyday, and those with a Netflix subscription were recently treated to a three-part documentary about the darker side of the competition series. Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model is one of the best Netflix shows to binge watch, and after tearing through all three episodes I was left truly shocked by Tyra Banks.

While some folks thought the Top Model documentary would be a fluff piece, that wasn't the case. Instead contestants shared harrowing stories about the way they were treated during filming. While former judges like Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker expressed remorse, Tyra's responses to her contestants' accounts was chilling.

Tyra Banks' Lack Of Accountability Or Contrition Was Wild.

It was somewhat shocking when it was revealed that Tyra Banks would be interviewed for Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model, since she was the face and mind behind the controversial series. The iconic model and TV personality recently turned 50, and showed up to talk about Top Model in a trench coat. I was hoping to see her look inward at some of the missteps of the series, but that didn't really happen.

Even as the documentary focused on horrifying stories like Shandi Sullivan's blackout in Milan, Banks didn't seem too remorseful. She made various excuses for the show's inappropriate moments, and even her on-camera "apologies" didn't feel genuine. After all, she didn't actually make them to the contestants themselves.

Then there's the interpersonal drama between the judges. While Tyra claimed that she wasn't responsible for the firing of Jay Manuel, J. Alexander, and Nigel Barker, that doesn't seem to be what they think. The fact that Miss Jay is still waiting for Banks to visit him post-stroke also didn't paint a pretty picture of the former Dancing with the Stars host.

Given what we've learned in the years since Top Model was originally airing, it seems like it Tyra could have easily admitted some fault and been contrite about the things she put the contestants through. That includes inappropriate challenges, the makeovers, and even dental surgery that she put some of them through. But, she didn't seem to have any genuine regrets, or take responsibility in a real way. And, the way she methodically answered the questions was downright chilling at times.

I have to wonder if the documentary will negatively impact whether or not America's Next Top Model ends up actually returning for a 25th cycle. Banks used the doc to hype up a new season, but it hasn't officially been ordered yet.

Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model is streaming now on Netflix as part of the 2026 TV schedule. Now I'm curious to see if more reality shows get their own documentaries.

TikTok is nothing if not a fount of discovery, both for those of us who scroll through it casually and people who live for new content from the site’s creators. Well, former supermodel Tyra Banks may have left Dancing with the Stars behind many (controversial) moons ago, but fans can still find the smizing star on the platform. In fact, she recently posted about making “hot” ice cream, and…yeah, man, I still really don’t know what she’s talking about.

What’s The Deal With Tyra Banks’ Hot Ice Cream?

No one can deny that Tyra Banks has had an amazing career. From becoming a supermodel in the 1990s when she was still a teen, to guest starring on hit shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (where she briefly romanced Alfonso Ribeiro, a current Dancing with the Stars co-host, on screen), to famously hosting her own talk show filled with memorable moments and running things on the frequently epic America’s Next Top Model for many years, Banks has done a lot during her time in the spotlight.

She recently took to TikTok to provide an intriguing update on her entrepreneurial efforts, which include an ice cream shop in Australia (where she’s now lived for some time), SMiZE and Dream. Apparently, she’s achieved a long-time goal of hers by finally making something she calls “hot ice cream,” and while it looks good, her video does little to answer my questions about what, exactly, it is. Take a gander:

I have to be honest, even after watching this video several times, I’m still trying to understand what this is and how it took “a year” for her to make her “favorite ice cream flavor” be hot and cold at the same time. I am far from someone with a complete understanding of physics, but it sounds kinda like this ice cream (which is named “Hot Mama”) gives off some sort of freezer burnt-liquid taste, which (to be blunt) doesn’t sound in the least bit desirable, no matter what flavors she might put in it.

Let’s take a break and see if this idea makes any more sense if we actually look at the words she’s saying:

Guys? I really do wish she were talking about her ‘90s swimsuit pics, because that at least leaves us with no questions.

The former America’s Got Talent host showed off the product in its cold and hot forms, and from the look of the finished product, it seems to be totally sippable, which does make it appear to be a kind of a latte, but without any caffeine or coffee flavor. So…right. I’m still fuzzy on what this means, and the rest of you probably are, too.

Look, I’m glad Banks has found something new and interesting to fill her time with now that she’s not 100% in the spotlight anymore, and love that her “hot ice cream” has her excited. May we all find such joy as we move through life, whether we can accurately explain the roots of it to others, or not.

Years before Piper Perabo was fighting Beth Dutton on Yellowstone or holding surgeons hostage on Grey’s Anatomy, she was merely a wannabe songwriter from New Jersey, just trying to make a name for herself by dancing on bars in the mean streets of New York City. Coyote Ugly may not be one of the best movies of the 2000s from a critical standpoint, but it was one of my favorites, so I was definitely interested when Perabo spoke about a potential sequel — and just as amused by how she danced around it.

Coyote Ugly, the 2000 dramedy centered around Violet Sanford (Piper Perabo) and the other dancers/bartenders at the titular establishment, has become a cult classic over the years, and apparently there have been talks about revisiting that world. THR spoke with Perabo at San Diego Comic-Con and asked about the status of such talks. The actress carefully replied:

Well that’s pretty vague but all in all it sounds promising, right? The reporter thought so, saying it sounded like conversations about revisiting the Coyote Ugly bartenders were back on, to which Piper Perabo said:

I am so tickled by all of these half-thoughts escaping from Piper Perabo’s mouth. Could there be a contingent of people saying we don’t need a Coyote Uglier (as jokingly pitched by Perabo’s Butterfly co-star Daniel Dae Kim) or Coyote-er Ugly (Perabo’s contribution)? Sure, but it sounds like some of the actors want it, and I will speak for others who spent the early aughts chanting, “Hell no H2O!” to say that this brand of frivolous, cheesy fun is probably exactly what we need in our lives.

So, is there a script? Piper Perabo remained coy, saying:

Let’s just hope those very vague hints of some people communicating in some way about possibly doing something related to a Coyote Ugly sequel continue to move forward.

For those who may have forgotten just how classic the 2000 flick is, not only did it have the likes of Bridget Moynahan and Tyra Banks dancing atop bars, but John Goodman played Violet’s dad, and Melanie Lynskey was excellent as Violet’s BFF Gloria. Coyote Ugly even featured a hilarious performance from Kaitlin Olson in one of her first roles, five years before It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

We may be able to assume that one of the reasons the America’s Next Top Model icon’s mind has remained razor-sharp is because she’s kept busy over the years. She has multiple enterprises that she juggles and, in her spare time, she’s booked movie and TV gigs. In 2020, she joined Dancing With the Stars (which is now airing as part of the 2023 TV schedule) as co-host alongside Alfonso Ribeiro. Banks ultimately exited DWTS in 2022 and was replaced by Julianne Hough. In 2018, she also reprised her fan-favorite role as Eve (a doll come to life) in Life-Size 2 - which can be streamed by Hulu subscribers. 

As for what Tyra Banks does next, that remains to be seen. I’d expect, though, that she’ll step into her next phase with beauty, grace and charm. She seems ready to take on whatever 50 has to offer, and let’s hope it treats her well. 

Season 32 of Dancing With the Stars is seeing quite a lot of changes already. Even before Season 31 ended, it was announced that the series would be losing a few pro dancers and even some notable judges. Then, it was announced that Tyra Banks was stepping down as co-host, with DWTS vet Julianne Hough set to take the reigns. Now, pro dancer Gleb Savchenko is opening up about the hosting changes.

While at the 2023 GLAAD Media Awards, longtime DWTS pro Gleb Savchenko talked to E! News about Julianne Hough coming on board as a co-host. It’s no secret that Hough has a dancing background, one that also includes Dancing With the Stars as both a pro dancer and judge. So, because of this Savchenko said that he is as excited as ever to have her back, and he is even hoping to dance alongside her in the upcoming season:

Savchenko’s sentiments about Hough echo what Derek Hough said about his sister, pointing out that she is perfect for the job. Not only does she have a background in dance, she's also being familiar with Dancing With the Stars, and she has had many other hosting gigs in the past. Overall, it's going to be exciting to see how she does in a different position alongside Alfonso Ribeiro, who will no longer be the newbie host. Speaking of Ribeiro, Savchenko noted that Hough is in great company with him, saying: 

As for Tyra Banks, it sounds like despite some controversial moments during her time on DWTS, Gleb Savchenko is sad to see her leave. However, he knows she'll succeed in whatever she does next, saying:

Tyra Banks is quite the businesswoman, and she’s kept busy amid Dancing With the Stars, so it’s not surprising that she ultimately decided to leave and focus on her other companies. Luckily she weighed in on Julianne Hough replacing her, and had nothing but nice things to say, especially considering that the Hough siblings will be on the series together again. It’s always possible that Banks could drop by the studio every now and then, but as of now, she’s putting DWTS in her rearview mirror.

Julianne Hough is in good hands on Dancing With the Stars, and having the history she does with the show, plus a sibling working there will likely make the transition smooth. However, that doesn’t make it any less scary. Since a premiere date for Season 32 has yet to be announced, Hough has some time to prepare, get the nerves out, and maybe get advice from former and fan-favorite hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

Ahead of Dancing With The Stars Season 32 coming to those with Disney+ subscriptions later this year, it was announced that Tyra Banks is stepping down from being the show’s host after three seasons. DWTS alum Julianne Hough is taking her spot, and Banks has commented on the show’s latest move. 

While the famed model is looking forward to focusing on entrepreneurship in place of DWTS, former dance pro and judge Julianne Hough is set to take over the mantle. Here’s how Tyra Banks weighed in on the decision to Us Weekly: 

Tyra Banks sounded super hyped that Julianne Hough will be her successor as co-host with Alfonso Ribeiro, who was added last season to make the DWTS hosting gig a double act once again. Banks called the decision “perfect,” especially considering Hough has been so involved in the series over the years as is. 

Hough’s brother Derek Hough was also a pro dancer on DWTS before he returned as a judge from Season 29, a role he continues to hold. He shared last week that he thought the decision “makes sense” given his sister’s role in the series over the years. Julianne Hough also commented that the series has a “special place” in her heart and has been her “family" for the past 17 years. It seems to be a really natural decision for the show as it heads into its 32nd season this year. 

Along with Alfonso Ribeiro co-hosting with her and Derek Hough being among the judges, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba are also set to return as judges in the upcoming season. Len Goodman, who had been a judge on the series since the beginning, announced he was stepping down from the show in November to “spend more time” with his family back in Britain. 

The decision from Goodman and Banks to exit comes a year after the show became the first live series to move to Disney+. The previous season aired its Season 31 finale in November with TikTok star Charli D’Amelio winning the competition alongside pro dancer Mark Ballas.

Dancing with the Stars continues to undergo big changes, after switching from network TV to streaming for Season 31 and then losing host Tyra Banks. Those changes, however, will include the return of one very familiar face, as Julianne Hough has announced she’s coming “back to the ballroom.” This time around, however, she won’t be one of the pros leading a celebrity through different styles of dance or giving critiques from behind the judges’ table; Hough will replace Banks as a co-host, when the competition returns for Season 32.

Julianne Hough returns to Dancing with the Stars after appearing as a dancer on Seasons 4-8 and then judging for several more seasons later in the show’s run on ABC. Variety broke the news, and Hough told the trade she’s excited to rejoin her dance family: 

The addition of Julianne Hough as co-host is one of several changes for the dance competition. Season 32 will be the second time viewers will need a Disney+ subscription to watch all the action go down, and this time around, the cast will be without pro Cheryl Burke, who announced that she was leaving DWTS after 26 seasons. The show will also be without Len Goodman, who’s been a Dancing with the Stars judge since the beginning, as he announced his own retirement last season.

There will still be several familiar faces, though, as Alfonso Ribeiro is returning as a co-host, and Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough are set as judges. Julianne Hough said she looks forward to seeing them all again upon her return. Her statement continued:

Julianne Hough won a couple of those trophies in her day, taking the Mirrorball in Season 4 with Apolo Anton Ohno and Season 5 with Hélio Castroneves. It will be exciting to see her in a new role with the show she has so much history with. Dancing with the Stars Season 32 is set to premiere this fall, but no date has been set. Dancing with the Stars has been going through a lot of changes lately, between its move to Disney+ for Season 31, and having some pros and a judge exit the show. While we don’t know when a new season of the dancing competition will hit the 2023 TV schedule, what we do know is more change is on the way as Tyra Banks has confirmed she’s leaving the ballroom after three seasons of hosting and a lot of online trolling. 

There had been rumors that Banks might be leaving Dancing with the Stars. Reportedly the competition’s executive producers were looking to change the show in a big way by hiring new hosts, and bringing in different contestants. While we don't know if this has anything to do with Banks' decision to leave, the former America’s Next Top Model host did confirm that she's leaving to pursue her goals in business. She told TMZ:

She noted that she thinks it’s simply time to go, and said that she is “crazy, crazy, crazy focused” on her business SMiZE & Dream, an ice cream brand that’s in the process of going global. After showing the reporter her Whole Foods cart, and explaining she was doing some research and development for new ice cream flavors, she said:

She left TMZ saying she is going from the “ballroom to the boardroom.” Banks also explained that her plan is to focus on her business, and still create television, however, she’ll likely be behind the camera rather than in front of it. 

While Banks spoke about her business goals being her reason for leaving Dancing with the Stars, she faced a large amount of online trolling during her time as host, which I’d assume was not easy to deal with. She’s been the subject of humorous posts on Twitter, as viewers did not hold back their thoughts about Banks’ “bowtie pasta” dress. However, she’s also been at the center of trolling after saying the wrong couple’s names during an elimination, which was compared to Steve Harvey’s infamous Miss. Universe moment by a star of the show. The situation became such a big deal she ended up addressing the “craziness” again explaining everything that went down behind the scenes. I'd imagine that all of that has to take its toll, plus working on live television is already difficult enough without people online talking about you.

Live TV can’t be easy to do, even when you’re an experienced host like Banks is. Hosts and judges of TV shows like Dancing with the Stars come and go – I mean just looks at the ever-changing roster of coaches on The Voice. And while it's a bit shocking the host is leaving after three years, it makes sense that she wants to move on to other projects that she's more passionate about, taking her work from the "ballroom to the boardroom." 

Although Dancing With the Stars made history with Season 31 after its Disney+ debut, the series has dealt with more shakeups than just switching from ABC to streaming, with the exits of some pros and even a judge. However, with the way new rumors are going around, Tyra Banks may be the latest change on top of some replacements.

The Sun is reporting that a source close to DWTS executive producers says that the series is looking to completely change the show with a new host, new contestants, and even bigger names on the roster. It appears that they are more worried about pulling in viewers and are hoping that a “facelift” will help, including replacing Tyra Banks.

Tyra Banks joined DWTS as its new host beginning in Season 29, replacing longtime co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. While there was initially improvement for the Season 29 ratings compared to Season 28, the numbers may not be as promising after the change to Disney+ from ABC. It likely doesn't help that Banks has been called a diva on set.

Fresh Prince alum (and former DWTS winner) Alfonso Ribeiro was cast for Season 31 as Tyra Banks’ co-host. While it did bring back a duo-dynamic of hosts, it evidently wasn’t enough to completely replace Bergeron and Andrews, even with Banks eating a boob chicken live.

A possible new host isn’t the only change that producers at DWTS are rumored to be looking at, although it would technically be a change back if the show returned to ABC. After 30 seasons on ABC, the dancing competition made the shocking move to Disney+, becoming the first live show on the platform. While the source says that the show was a success at its new home, there were still a great deal of viewers who didn’t switch from ABC to Disney+. 

The rumors come not long after longtime judge Len Goodman announced his departure and retirement. As of now, it’s not known who could replace him, but if DWTS is going to go through other changes, it should be interesting to see what they do for this. The show has certainly survived big changes before, even when they affected what fans had been used to for a long time. 

As of now, nothing has been publicly confirmed, and it's possible that nothing is yet set in stone behind the scenes for what changes may or may not come to Dancing With the Stars aside from what has already been announced. Hopefully, more concrete news will be announced soon, and we will get confirmation on whether the rumors are true or not. Dancing With The Stars Season 31 feels like a new era for the dancing competition, especially after its move from ABC to streaming. With that said, some things never change, and host Tyra Banks once again found herself the subject of many online reactions and memes after another bizarre moment during the show. This one may outrank any comments about people's necks or weird outfits, as Banks is blowing up online for eating "boob chicken" live on the stage, and fans are flabbergasted about it.

Those who don't have a Disney+ subscription are probably asking, "How did Tyra Banks get fried chicken on the Dancing With The Stars dance floor?" Funnily enough, the story starts with Season 31's resident Drag Diva Shangela, who smuggled it in for a prop joke. Len Goodman received quite the surprise when he complimented Shangela's leg work, only for the contestant to ask if he considered her legs "crisp." Goodman took the bait, and before anyone knew what was going on, Shangela pulled a crisp piece of fried chicken in a zip-lock bag from her cleavage and gave it to the judge. 

That moment was wild enough, but it kept going when Shangela revealed she had yet another piece of chicken in a bag wedged in her cleavage. Host Tyra Banks took the chicken, and after briefly offering it to one of the judges, decided to pull it out of the bag and take a bite. Suffice it to say that the internet was in shock, to the point that they could tweet little more than their disbelief the event occurred: 

It's not uncommon for certain viewers to give Tyra Banks a hard time about anything when she's hosting. Perhaps this meme is self-aware commentary that Banks didn't do anything upsetting or offensive by eating the chicken, but because she offended and upset fans in the past, they were bound to target her for this: 

There are always some sobering and reflective thoughts that surface in the chaos of people making memes, and that certainly was the case with one user. After all, shouldn't all Dancing With The Stars viewers just enjoy the fact that they witnessed what will likely become an iconic moment of the series, and that they'll be able to revisit it on-demand on Disney+ when they want?

Typically, we don't see judges or hosts on live competition shows with food, and after watching Tyra Banks eat chicken on Dancing With The Stars, some might be reminded why. After all, the show is on a tight window to stay on track, which meant the host didn't exactly have a ton of time to properly chew and swallow. Some fans claimed they caught Banks talking with her mouth full of food, which isn't something many like to see: 

Regardless of what fans, and even former hosts of the show, think about Tyra Banks, there's no denying she created a memorable moment for Dancing With The Stars. If nothing else, we can have a chuckle at this moment, and acknowledge that it wouldn't have been possible without her willingness to eat a surprise piece of fried chicken on television: 

On a night that celebrated Michael Bublé and saw Jesse James Decker exit after she won the dance marathon the week prior, it's worth mentioning that the boob chicken remains the talk of the episode. Maybe it should get its own theme night next season and this can become a recurring bit? Ok, that's a bit much, but in all seriousness, it was one of the most entertaining moments of the show I've seen in some time, so credit to Tyra Banks for keeping things interesting. 

Dancing With The Stars streams on Disney+ on Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET. I can't promise every week will feature events as wild as what just occurred, but the dancing is certainly getting better as the competition continues.

Dancing With The Stars Season 31 continued earlier this week with 15 couples showing off new routines for “Elvis Night.” During the episode, TikTok mega-star Charli D’Amelio and her dance partner Mark Ballas particularly impressed with a quickstep to “Bossa Nova Baby” and received high marks all around. However, there was one awkward moment during criticisms from the judges when they told D'Amelio to keep her head up and stick her neck out more. Tyra then pronounced that D’Amelio had the “most beautiful neck in the world.” 

Following fans tuning into the DWTS episode on TV or with a Disney+ subscription, some went on social media to call the moment “creepy,” which The Sun reported. However, not everyone agrees that Tyra Banks’ comments were particularly notable. Check out this reaction:

There you have it. Out of context or without knowing more about Tyra Banks, the comment might come off as “creepy,” but we’re talking about a supermodel. It’s her job and life to look at the structure of the body in a way the average person wouldn’t notice. Plus, Tyra Banks is known for her memorable commentary on America’s Next Top Model, which has been a lot more outlandish than complimenting someone’s neck. Earlier this year, Banks was also dragged on TikTok for the “mistreatment” of a “plus-sized model.” 

The week prior to this, Tyra Banks and Charli D’Amelio went viral when fans also believed the host mocked the contestant for being so sweet and humble “for one of the most famous teenagers in the entire world.” Many took that as a backhanded compliment to the 18-year-old, reading between the lines that she perhaps thought that D’Amelio was going to be a brat in real life. 

Tyra Banks turned 48 this past December following an over-30-year career in the spotlight. Banks began modeling when she was 15 and later became the first Black woman to cover the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In the ‘90s, she got into acting and was briefly part of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with Alfonso Ribeiro, who now co-hosts with her on DWTS.

On The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Carlton Banks did well if he got one or two love interests a season. Meanwhile, his cousin, Will Smith, had a cavalcade of girlfriends over six seasons -- with one or two serious relationships in the mix. It seemed things might turn for Alfonso Ribeiro when one of the show’s most notable guest stars, Tyra Banks, popped up as Jackie in Season 4. Unfortunately, those plans didn’t work out, as she was revealed to be a childhood friend of Will. Years after the series ended, the Fresh Prince alums recalled their co-star's character cutting their on-screen romance short.

The former co-stars have reconnected but not romantically, as they prepare to co-host the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. It's hard to believe that the two entertainers haven’t shared the screen since The Fresh Prince Season 4. While speaking about the new season with The New York Post, Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro reminisced about the short-lived romance between Carlton and Jackie. It led to the following exchange between the co-hosts:  

Tyra Banks: We were love interests for one act. … It was Jackie, and Carlton and we were so into each other.

Alfonso Ribeiro: And then she sees Will. And the short guy gets dissed again. And it broke my heart a little bit.

Of course, Will Smith had come between Banks and Ribeiro. I mean, it wouldn’t have been The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air if Will (the character) didn’t get all the beautiful women who came through the classic sitcom. Unfortunately, it was to the detriment of Carlton’s love life.

After mentioning Alfonso Ribeiro mentioned that Carlton was heartbroken over the missed connection, the America’s Next Top Model creator got a little cheeky. She asked Ribeiro if it was him or his character that felt the pain. Ribeiro quipped that both he and Carlton were heartbroken over the situation. The fan-favorite actor went on to explain why he was disappointed by the development:

It's understandable that the star would've wanted the geeky Carlton to finally get a meaningful relationship, especially as the character began college. Sure, the preppy Bel-Air native had a few notable flings, but no recurring love that spanned a season or two. While Carlton wasn't made worse for not having had a steady girlfriend, a romance could've been great for him.

When it comes to Dancing with the Stars, viewers should only expect sparks to fly between those on the dancefloor, though. The reality dancing competition series’ shift to streaming marked Alfonso Ribeiro's new role after Tyra Banks hosted solo for Seasons 29 and 30. )The new season will premiere on September 19 and will be accessible with a Disney+ subscription.) Upon hearing the news of his hiring, former hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews sent Ribeiro some love. The congratulations were a full-circle moment as the Fresh Prince star credited his AFHV predecessor for getting him back on track in Hollywood.

But getting back to Fresh Prince, it would've been interesting had Jackie and Carlton paired up. I guess, at the very least, we can appreciate the fact that the actors who played them would've been all for it. It's a small bit of validation but validation nonetheless.

It’s been four years since America’s Next Top Model came back from the dead briefly after the show reached its 22-season run. Without any more cycles left to see, this is the time for former fans to reflect on scandalous moments that occurred on the show that wouldn’t be allowed today. A trending piece of controversy that’s been circulating is a TikTok compilation video of how former host Tyra Banks and the rest of the judges on America’s Next Top Model handled a contestant who was considered “plus-sized” on the show.

There's a compilation TikTok video making the rounds tagged #tyrabanks that starts with the caption “Most appalling behavior on ANTM…the mistreatment of the first 'plus-sized' model." In Season 1, the then-26-year-old Robin was considered a “plus-sized” model in the eyes of Tyra Banks. Banks said that the problem she had with Robin was that she was not “plus-sized on top, and on the bottom, she is.” Judge and ex-model Janice Dickerson said Robin was “out in terms of being a supermodel” and that the next top model will not be plus-sized. Instead of the Life Size actress slamming back at Dickerson and the other judges for their offensive comments, she said she wished Robin's upper and lower body matched “better” in size. 

The video later showed Banks criticizing Robin’s wardrobe choice for a photo shoot as she wore a sarong over her bottom bikini. Banks asked Robin if she was covering herself all the time so no one would stare at her hips. Robin walked away in tears, and the former America’s Got Talent host continued to ask her if she was crying. Other judges said Robin was “too old” to start modeling and that there’s no market for plus-sizes in France. Despite the judges acting turned off by Robin’s body shape, they were not happy when she didn’t provide them with a nude photo despite her reasoning being she wasn’t comfortable. Ultimately, Robin was asked to leave.

A number of comments on this TikTok video expressed sympathy for Robin and a lot of hate for the former Victoria’s Secret model. Comments would say that they were shocked that the judges considered this season one contestant to be plus-sized and how they did her so dirty. Other TikTok users felt that Tyra Banks’ behavior was “unacceptable,” and that she should have defended Robin as she’s been in her shoes before during the days she started out as a model.  

A couple of years ago, Tyra Banks admitted America’s Next Top Model made mistakes, in that by making sure these girls would get work, she would tell them what they needed to change about their appearance. But now, she believes if there was anything that needed to be “fixed” with any of the girls, that feedback should have been given after that contestant won. With that in mind, maybe this television personality would have treated Robin differently if this show was done today or would have stopped those who fat-shamed any contestant.

As of now, Tyra Banks works as the new replacement host for Dancing with the Stars for Dancing with the Stars. If America’s Next Top Model were to come back for more cycles, there’s a good chance the show would be more inclusive to people of different shapes and sizes. And lately, she’s been taking on host duties for Dancing With The Stars for the past two seasons. The new gig resulted in a number of criticisms leveled against her, though, particularly about the 48-year-old’s jaw-dropping fashion choices, big entrances on stage, and frequent on-air flubs. To add to the heat thrown Banks’ way, former DWTS host Brooke Burke called her out for being a “diva” on set.

If you cast your mind back to the year 2008, you’ll remember that Brooke Burke in fact won Dancing With The Stars’ seventh season alongside her dance partner Derek Hough, who is now one of the judges. ABC invited Burke back later on to serve as a co-host for the live competition show from Season 10 to Season 17. Since then, she’s been mostly focused on building up a fitness brand, but the former winner of the show also had some time to weigh in on how Tyra Banks is doing in her old spot. She said on the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast,

I don’t know – unless you’re Beyonce, it usually isn’t the greatest compliment to be thought of as a diva, although Brooke Burke clarified that "there's nothing wrong" with owning that title. Burke added that she too can sometimes be a diva herself but maintained that excess in showmanship on Dancing With The Stars is “not the place.” Tyra Banks’ predecessor continued,

Dancing With The Stars’ hosting duties have changed hands a few times in its 17-year history, and with the dances being performed live, there’s bound to be mishaps. Tyra Banks caught the most flak for seemingly pulling a Steve Harvey/Miss Universe when it came to dancing partners Monica Aldama and Val Chmerkovskiy in 2020, with some fans even calling for her to be fired. At the time, the supermodel addressed the big Season 29 mistake, saying that a lot of BTS “craziness” was going on. Still, things only got worse when she cut off an eliminated contestant’s tribute to their late grandmother last season.

Regardless, Tyra Banks should be pretty acclimated to criticisms at this point, having been an international print and runway model for much of her life. She’s also been under a lot of scrutiny in more recent months for the pay given to her former America’s Next Top Model contestants coming to light. 

The beleaguered hostess hasn’t yet been confirmed as part of the next season. What we do know with certainty is that changes are a-brewing for Season 31 of Dancing With The Stars. She showed off her figure in a chic floral one-piece swimsuit. In addition to stunning the masses, she also shared an empowering message. In a society that often derides women for simply aging, the star chose to instead focus on the positives that come with another year on planet Earth. She acknowledged that her body was changing, but referred to both her physical form and her "body of work." Rather than ignore the effects of aging, she opted to embrace her evolving body with a simple maxim: 

It’s refreshing to see a celebrity recognize the wisdom and professional advancement that can result from a long career, rather than focus on the perceived disadvantages of aging. And Tyra Banks is right. Even if your body changes throughout your life, you can still push the boundaries of your personal and professional growth. Although her industry prizes appearances, Banks hasn’t let that stop her from accepting her body for exactly what it is, rather than what someone on the internet thinks it should be. 

Her positive attitude has served she well: she made history in 1996 when she became the first African-American model to appear on both the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and an issue of GQ. Since then, the California native has pursued ventures in music, acting, writing, and cosmetics. The former Victoria’s Secret Angel even taught an MBA course on personal branding at Stanford University. 

Tyra Banks can currently be seen as the host of ABC’s hit celebrity competition show Dancing with the Stars, which just completed its thirtieth season. Tyra Banks has had a tough few months in the limelight. Not everyone was happy with her first season as the host on Dancing with the Stars and then this week she was dragged online for how much models made on America’s Next Top Model during its heyday. Now, another ANTM star has defended Banks and the show, but the end result has still seen a lot of mud slung around. 

So what happened here? Essentially, this past week a former America’s Next Top Model star, Sarah Hartshorne, went viral on Twitter when bringing up what she was paid for her time on the reality show. While she noted she has talked about this on other platforms like TikTok a lot, she got a lot of info out to the fans in just a few characters with the tweet:

Her tweet wasn’t particularly filled with any vitriol or bad feelings toward her reality TV experience, but the comments on the post got pretty riled up. One other tweet that went viral basically said that this is something people should be mad at the America’s Next Top Model host for.

While some defended Tyra in the comments, the gist here is that a faction of people felt as if Tyra may have done some of the contestants dirty during their runs on the show. But is that type of criticism fair? For that, we need look no further than a second ANTM contestant's comments.

Another Former America’s Next Top Model Contestant Explains How The $40 Worked

After Sarah Hartshorne’s comments made the rounds, another former Top Model star ultimately decided it was time to weigh in on those comments and what really happened during her time on the show. She explained that the models were not “paid” $40 per day as a payday, noting the money was meant as a per diem to cover expenses. Toccara Jones, who appeared on the third cycle of the show, told TMZ: 

Obviously, the contestants who appear on America's Next Top Model sign contracts and are walked through what signing on means before they say yes. And while it might not seem fair from those online who are looking in from the outside, it's not really that dissimilar from what other contestants on reality shows get paid. 

Most shows of this ilk, including the likes of Survivor or even Top Chef receive a small amount for appearing on the show (and can earn more the longer they are on, in the case of Survivor.) The end goal, though, is to win the show and take home the big prize. Toccara Jones personally feels that this is what everyone who signs on for the show should know and that fans shouldn't be giving Tyra Banks flack for it. She also said: 

In the past, Tyra Banks has spoken out about some regrets she has about how the show was run, but pay didn't come up. She is still synonymous with the show, which did launch the careers of some models who still have roles in the industry, including Toccara Jones.  In this case, the stepping stone course seems as if it may have worked out more for some contestants than others, and that's probably always going to be the case. 

Tyra Banks hasn’t had an easy go of things on Dancing with the Stars since her predecessors Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron were fired from the show, but she hasn’t always made things easy on herself either. This week, the DWTS host took a little flack from the fanbase after interrupting a contestant who was speaking about a scarf he wore in tribute to his late grandmother. We're about to get into spoilers, so if you aren't caught up on the show, please be forewarned. The contestant in question was none other than Jimmie Allen. 

The moment was a quick one, so it's possible if you were watching you might have missed it, but during this week’s elimination, Tyra Banks announced the couples that would be dancing in the semi-finals and who would be going home. Ultimately, the bottom three ended up being:

• Olivia Jade and Val
• Jimmie and Emma
• Melora and Artem 

After both Olivia Jade and Jimmie were eliminated, in the rush of ending the episode Tyra Banks had asked Jimmie for any final thoughts he had before his exit on Dancing with the Stars. Jimmie took the opportunity to talk about his costume that night, which he had worn in a performance of Janet Jackson’s “Escapade” with his partner, pro Emma Slater. He began talking about the scarf, noting,

Unfortunately, he was cut off by Tyra Banks, who did have to cut the episode for time. Yet, people were noticeably unhappy about the way the moment was handled, with Jimmie Allen clearly wanting to talk about his late grandmother and the tribute he had paid her during his time in the competition. Instead, Banks ended up cutting him off with a brusque, “She’s here with us” before wrapping on the episode. 

Of course, fans had thoughts. Some of these DWTS watchers were notably a littler more, erm, stressed than others.

Others simply thought it was a little off-putting for Tyra to ask the question if she didn’t have time to hear the answer. 

Even more awkward in my opinion? The host trying to look for Olivia Jade and Val while on the air rather than focusing in on Jimmie and Emma right away and giving them time to share their final thoughts. I get it. This could be Val's final season and the two had had a good run prior to the night's elimination. And yet.

Because Tyra Banks looked for the other couple instead of focusing in on what Jimmie had to say, it read as dismissive even if what she was feeling was a rush to wrap the episode. As one fan seemingly hopeful for a Tom Bergeron return noted, this is not how the former hosts would have handled things.

Ultimately, the results of this week’s episode where Jimmie Allen and Emma Slater were concerned were  not a huge shock (though Olivia Jade’s elimination certainly seemed to shock some). While the dancing pair had improved throughout the season and earned scores of “8” from each of the judges on the panel for the “Escapade” routine, when it came time to choose between Allen and competitor Melora Hardin, the judges chose unanimously for The Office star. Len had even previously called Allen’s dance “nice,” also noting, “is nice good enough to get you into next week? I’m not sure.” 

So, it was less of a surprise than the surprise Tyra Banks gave us at the end of the episode, one that a lot of fans really did find “rude.”

There’s still plenty of dancing to be done by the contestants and hosting to be done by Tyra Banks before the season ends. We'll have to wait and see if she manages to avoid another moment that riles up the fans like this one. We'll find out soon enough. Olivia Jade's casting generated controversy from critics who argued that she's not enough of a "star" for the cast of Dancing with the Stars. Described as a "social media star" in ABC's announcement of the new DWTS cast, she's arguably the most divisive upcoming dancer. Tyra Banks weighed in on whether Jade belongs on DWTS, telling ET:

And as Banks noted, Jade has said that she didn't know that her parents paid large sums in bribes to get her and her sister into USC via the crew team even though neither of the young women were rowers, and she wasn't implicated. So perhaps DWTS will help Jade reshape her image and become known for something larger than the scandal. Besides, it's not like she's the only controversial figure to ever be added as a DWTS star. Olivia Jade already opened up to share what her mom thinks about her joining Dancing with the Stars, making it clear that she has supporters within her family. Still, she's not the kind of celebrity who would have made it on the show in years past before social media rose to create influencers. So, while she may not be as recognizable to the general public as actors like Brian Austin Green and Melora Hardin, former Spice Girl Melanie C, or Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee, she does have an audience. There are a lot of risks involved with almost any production that is broadcasted live and, as a result, mistakes are bound to happen. Tyra Banks knows this all too well, as she had a massive blunder on Dancing with the Stars last season when she announced the wrong dancing couple as being safe from elimination. Banks has further explained what went on to cause the mistake, citing the “craziness” that happens beyond what viewers can see on camera.

As viewers, it's easy for us to critique what we see on our screens, as we can almost instantly put blame on someone for a mistake on live TV. But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tyra Banks claimed that the mistake that happened last season of Dancing with the Stars was not her fault. Still, she understands why she, “the talent,” would be blamed for it. According to Banks, the situation ultimately had to to do with what goes on behind the scenes. Here is how the celebrity competitive dancing show host explained it, exactly:

Tyra Banks is no stranger to hosting popular shows. The model turned-actress-and-TV-personality has hosted and created a number of TV programs and had her own talk show for a few years. While most of Banks' past TV productions weren't actually live, she did have a stint as the America’s Got Talent host and has appeared live an almost countless amount of times as a talk show guest over the years. And that live aspect of Dancing with the Stars seems to be a different beast entirely. I mean, there are no second takes or quick fixes to blunders like calling out the wrong winner or making a less than appropriate joke.

The mishap with Dancing with the Stars last season does seem to be the biggest slip-up Tyra Banks has had in her long history with television hosting, which makes her her earpiece explanation understandable. Banks did, however, say in the same interview that she's willing to be that face that everyone blames for similar mistakes and does accept that she is a part of an unseen team. Even though some fans are hoping for Tom Bergeron back, the mistake from last season doesn’t seem to have affected Tyra Banks' place as the face of the long-running ABC series. She'll return as the host of Dancing with the Stars when Season 30 premieres on September 30th - hopefully with no live mishaps.

Dancing with the Stars shocked the masses by firing its hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews ahead of Season 29. Bergeron had been on the reality competition series on ABC since the beginning, while Andrews had joined back in Season 18. Soon after, ABC announced that America’s Next Top Model star Tyra Banks would be taking over hosting duties as a single host. Well, now we're into Season 2 and Carrie Ann Inaba is finally addressing the major change, as well as the fans' feelings on the matter.

Carrie Ann Inaba is one of Dancing with the Stars’ original judges, which means she has been on since the beginning. It is a distinction that fired host Tom Bergeron also shared with Inaba prior to his exit from the series. A few months after the dust has settled and Erin Andrews, among others, have had their say, Inaba is now speaking out about what happened, as well as how she feels about Tyra Banks taking over as host.

There you have it. Carrie Ann Inaba acknowledges the controversy that has surrounded the decision. However, in her conversation with TV Insider she cites Tyra Banks’ passion for fashion and the show in general as massive draws to viewers. Inaba’s comments come after Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke had acknowledged feeling “hurt” over Tom Bergeron getting replaced. Inaba does not mention feeling hurt, although she does say she misses both Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

Carrie Ann Inaba’s reference to Tyra Banks’ fashion infusion comes after a dazzling display of Disney Night costumes for Season 29. Banks’ background as a fashion model and the host of America’s Next Top Model certainly lends itself to helping Dancing with the Stars find a new footing in the world of fashion. For her part, Inaba approves! On that note, Inaba continued praising Banks for stepping in and replacing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, saying:

Viewers did tune in to see how Tyra Banks’ first season got started. Despite the controversy surrounding Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews’ firings, Dancing with the Stars’ Season 29 premiere drew 8.28 million viewers during its first hour. It didn't lose too many viewers in its second, holding onto a steady 7.91 million in the last half. In addition, Banks has managed to handle some impromptu ballroom drama during her run so far.

Dancing with the Stars will probably always have the hosting switch as one of its buzzed-about historical topics. Before Season 29 began airing, new host (and former pro) Derek Hough called the move to replace Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews “understandable.” Hough did not mention Tyra Banks’ passion for fashion as one of the upsides at the time.

However, Carrie Ann Inaba has, and it will be interesting to see what looks continue to take the screen. The latest episode of Dancing with the Stars took an unfortunate turn late in the broadcast, as Tyra Banks found herself smack dab in the middle of a live TV snafu. The first-year host of the ABC competition series made quite the unfortunate mistake when attempting to announce the bottom two teams, convincing one pair that they were safe when, in fact, the opposite was true. The mistake was awkward enough for one DWTS pro dancer to hit up social media and compare Banks' misstep to Steve Harvey's Miss Universe foul-ups back in 2016 and 2019.

For what it's worth, Val Chmerkovskiy was one of the two people most suited top make that comparison, considering he and his Cheer star partner Monica Aldama went from thinking they were completely safe to suddenly being jettisoned into the bottom two. Here's how he reacted on Twitter following the episode.

For those who didn't watch, Monday night's episode pared the overall contestant group down to the Top 13, and in the end, three teams were left on stage waiting to hear their fate. The teams included Vernon Davis and Pete Murgatroyd, Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe, and Chrishelll Stause and Gleb Savchenko, with Val Chmerkovskiy and Monica Aldama having been sent off the stage with all of the other safe couples. Though Tyra Banks was correct in identifying Heche and Motsepe as being one of the bottom two hopefuls, she also erroneously named Davis and Murgatroyd as the other bottom pairing.

Thankfully, depending on how you look at it, Tyra Banks quickly spoke up and admittedly there was a mix up. She then had to call Val Chmerkovskiy and Monica Aldama back onto the stage to take their rightful spot in the bottom two, with Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe being eliminated in the end. (Heche reportedly stormed off the set and refused to talk to anyone after that, according to Page Six.)

Val Chmerkovskiy wasn't the only one who drew comparisons between Tyra Banks' live TV blunder and the highly publicized mistake that Steve Harvey made when hosting the Miss Universe Pageant. At the time, Harvey announced the name of Miss Colombia as the winner instead of the true victor, Miss Philippines, and he took a wild amount of flak for the error in the weeks and months afterward. Considering the grand global stage attached to that annual special, I can't imagine that Banks' gaffe will overshadow Harvey's flub in the long run.

Citing the unpredictability of live TV, Tyra Banks blamed her erroneous information on a control room error (which not all fans were keen to believe), but judge Bruno Tonioli also came to the host's defense, saying:

To his latter point, Tyra Banks has already faced much scrutiny and criticism from Dancing with the Stars fans for joining the show as host and executive producer so shortly after producers fired former hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, with the hopes of revitalizing the long-running competition series. It seemed to be working at first, with the Season 29 premiere drawing over 8 million people on the night. However, around 2.4 million people have already fallen out of that audience just three episodes later. I wonder what the ratings would be life if Banks just got every single contestant wrong every time she talked to our about one.

In the world of live television, mistakes are bound to happen on occasion. Wardrobe malfunctions, bloopers, and errors with announcing winners have all happened before. However, hosting a live TV show is new for America’s Next Top Model alum Tyra Banks, who took over hosting duties on Dancing with the Stars following Tom Bergeron’s departure. Banks recently made an elimination mistake, but was quick to explain how it happened.

During the October 5 episode of Dancing with the Stars Season 29, Tyra Banks announced that Cheer coach Monica Aldama and her pro dancing partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, were safe from elimination. However, that wasn’t the case at all, and Banks had to scurry to call them both back out to the dance floor. While Aldama did wind up being saved from elimination, she and Chmerkovskiy were in the bottom two alongside Anne Heche and pro dancer Keo Mostepe. Banks took to her Instagram story in the aftermath to reveal the source of the mistake. In her words:

I can’t imagine what Monica Aldama was feeling at that moment, because to suddenly go from being safe to being in the bottom two sounds pretty intense. Tyra Banks is fully aware of how “unfortunate” her mistake was but that it’s her duty to carry on with the show despite the technical difficulties.

Multiple fans on social media compared Tyra Banks’ Dancing with the Stars mistake to that of Steve Harvey’s memorable pageant blunder. During the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, Harvey accidentally crowned Miss Colombia as the winner instead of Miss Philippines. I don’t think people have let him live it down since.

However, he wasn’t the only one. Due to a mix-up during the 2017 Oscars, La La Land was announced the Best Picture winner instead of Moonlight. Again, it’s live TV, and its unpredictable nature can lead to technical glitches and mistakes. I think Tyra Banks’ mistake would’ve been worse had Monica Aldama been eliminated but, luckily, she remained to dance another week.

Ultimately, the Dancing with the Stars host hopes there are no technical difficulties during next week’s live show, and I hope for the same. I’m sure that live TV has its learning curves, and it seems this one was it for her. While I doubt that Tyra Banks will have another major slip-up like this one anytime soon, it’s never a bad thing to hope for the best.

Now in its 29th season with a new host and a new attitude, Dancing with the Stars has featured well over 300 pairs of dancers, with each season offering up a completely unpredictable mix of celebrities from the worlds of TV, movies, sports and more. Sometimes the pairings make a lot of sense, such as this season's Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev, and other times they cause a ton of head-scratching, such as Geraldo Rivera and Edyta ?liwi?ska. Fans have often wondered exactly how those pairings are decided upon, as well as how the celebrities are chosen, and now we have some answers.

During Dancing with the Stars' recent virtual press conference, host Tyra Banks and judge Derek Hough joined executive producer Andrew Llinares and co-executive producer Deena Katz to talk about the long-running show, its ever-evolving cast and more. When asked about the process of pairing up the wide-ranging celebrity dancers with the well-seasoned pros, Katz confirmed those decisions are anything but random.

That makes a ton of sense, of course. It wouldn't do anyone any good if Dancing with the Stars just paired people together willy nilly. While viewers may not completely comprehend it just from watching weekly episodes, it takes a ton of patience, understanding, kinship and agreeability to be dance partners with someone, particularly if one of those partners isn't a natural. So if there are particular stars who need more guidance and are accepting of such things, it makes sense to pair them with pros who are good at teaching and working slowly, while stars who have more natural abilities are better fits for pros who are good at pushing their partners to go beyond their expectations.

Of course, that line of thinking is also tied intrinsically to the concept of height, since it's not like the aforementioned Charles Oakley or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (in Season 26) can be paired with just anyone, regardless of personalities or talents. But when height isn't as much of an issue, it's all about finding the chemistry. Deena Katz continued:

That absolutely makes sense, considering a lot of celebrities who join Dancing with the Stars aren't necessarily used to going so widely public with less-than-perfect performances. So it definitely helps them to have pros that are both encouraging and also able to offer up key advice when celebs aren't feeling confident or physically capable.

As far as picking the celebrities themselves, Deena Katz talked about that being a different kind of challenge for which they attempt to cast the widest net of interest possible. In her words:

Indeed, Dancing with the Stars' producers roped in three different Netflix stars for Season 29 in Tiger King's Carole Baskin, Cheer's Monica Aldama and Selling Sunset's Chrishell Stause, and each of those shows are quite popular without necessarily sharing the exact same fanbase. (For what it's worth, Justina Machado used to be considered a Netflix star before One Day at a Time flipped to Pop after the streaming service cancelled it.) Though the musicians chosen don't always skew to the youngest generations – such as Nelly and Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean – it's clear that the producers attempt to show their range when culling its celebs.

That said, Dancing with the Stars' BTS team also wants the kind of celebs who will win over viewers that weren't necessarily fans of them before. In Deena Katz's words:

And in the end, I'm sure it also helps to find celebs who are big Disney fans and aren't opposed to potentially dressing up like Disney characters.

It has been 17 years since America’s Next Top Model debuted back in 2003. Tyra Banks created the show and acted as the host and head judge for 23 of its 24 and counting seasons. After taking a break from hosting the show, she returned for Season 24. While the competition series has amassed a legacy, Banks has revealed the mistakes she believes America’s Next Top Model made.

America’s Next Top Model gave young women the chance to become a supermodel. Banks was a guest on former Today host Tamron Hall’s new talk show. The new Dancing with the Stars host explained that the modeling world 20 years ago lacked diversity and inclusion, and the show helped make many inroads. At the same, Tyra Banks was still an active supermodel with everything that went with it, including many rules. Banks continued, telling The Tamron Hall Show:

Tyra Banks acknowledges there were a lot of missteps during the early days of America’s Next Top Model. However, she intended to make sure that the young women featured on the show would have careers afterward in the industry. One thing that Banks did not mention regretting is the infamous moment she shouted at contestant Tiffany Richardson.

Still, Tyra Banks is not holding back in acknowledging America’s Next Top Model’s other issues. One of those matters was how the show urged participants to alter their appearance. Banks now says that she would not have done that if she could do it all over. Sharing what she believes she should have said instead, Banks continued:

America’s Next Top Model has had multiple lives, moving from its original UPN home onto The CW during the networks’ merger. From there, the show ended after 22 seasons, only to later be revived by VH1. Season 23 and Season 24 both aired on the cabler. There were hosting changes with Rita Ora hosting it in Season 23 before Tyra Banks returned for its twenty-fourth and latest season. Banks has remained busy both on and off her signature show.

Now Tyra Banks is busy with Dancing with the Stars. If America’s Next Top Model ever returns for another cycle, Banks could continue to build in the areas she believes the show made mistakes. Dancing with the Stars went through a tumultuous hiatus ahead of Season 29, with former hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews being fired, and America's Next Top Model vet Tyra Banks taking over both as a host and an executive producer. It doesn't appear as if the hosting changes did any damage to the show's reputation, as the season premiere ended up dwarfing everything else that aired on Monday night, and gave Dancing with the Stars some of its biggest numbers in years.

Like Justina Machado and Skai Jackson, Dancing with the Stars scored the highest numbers of the night across all of network TV and beyond. (Both Machado and Jackson landed 21s from the judges with their respective teammates Sasha Farber and Alan Bersten.) The Season 29 premiere was watched by 8.28 million people during its first hour, and 7.91 million viewers during the second hour, which averaged out to around 8.1 million. In comparison, the first chunk of American Ninja Warrior was the third most-watched hour of the night with 3.19 million viewers.

Dancing with the Stars' premiere ratings in the key demographics also towered above the competition. Both hours logged a 1.3 demo rating for the all-important 18-49 age group, and a 1.8 rating for adults 25-54. To make another American Ninja Warrior comparison, NBC's athletic competition series was again in third place with a 0.5 demo rating for 18- to 49-year-olds.

Admittedly, Monday's primetime schedule didn't feature a whole lot of competition that would have torn audiences away from Dancing with the Stars. NBC's American Ninja Warrior, CBS' Love Island and The CW's Whose Line and Penn & Teller were airing alongside CBS sitcom repeats and Fox's airing of 2016's Patriot Day.

Still, Dancing with the Stars' overall viewership was an improvement over its Season 28 premiere in September 2019 – 8.1 million > 7.8 million – and actually matched the show's biggest audience totals since the Season 26 finale. When it comes to the key demographic stats, Season 29's premiere earned the highest rating since the Season 25 finale in 2017.

There are lots of factors that could explain Dancing with the Stars' boost in the ratings, even beyond the lack of Monday night spotlights. For one, it's one of relatively few network TV staples that was able to make its planned Fall 2020 premiere. Many scripted shows are just getting back into the filming process after having to adjust for COVID safety protocols, the same way DWTS and other unscripted shows have. As well, fans no doubt wanted to tune in to see how Tyra Banks would do in her first episode hosting the long-running series. Not to mention Britt Stewart earning her spot as Dancing with the Stars' first Black female pro dancer.

And let's not discount this motley crew of stars putting their talents on display (or not), including Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean, The Bachelorette vet Kaitlyn Bristowe, Cheer star Monica Aldama, Catfish's Nev Schulman and plenty of other entertainers and athletes. One of the wild cards this season is definitely Tiger King subject Carole Baskin, whose involvement prompted an unexpected response from the family of her still-missing husband.

Dancing with the Stars is back for another season on ABC, but the show isn't back to business as usual compared to previous seasons. On top of the changes to the format due to pandemic precautions, longtime host Tom Bergeron is out for the season for the first time in DWTS history. Veteran TV host Tyra Banks stepped up to tackle hosting duties, and the two-hour Season 29 premiere gave fans the first impression of how her TV talents translate to the dancing competition show.

News of Tom Bergeron's departure came with ABC's announcement that the plan is to "embark on a new creative direction," which also involved saying goodbye to co-host Erin Andrews after six years and eleven seasons. Tyra Banks was therefore not just stepping into Bergeron's shoes, but also Andrews', as ABC did not add a second host to share the commentating duties with Banks. So, let's take a look at how Banks did during her first night of Dancing with the Stars.

What Worked With Tyra Banks As Dancing With The Stars Host

Tyra Banks has no shortage of hosting experience, and she even served as master of ceremonies on another one of primetime's biggest competition shows. She brought a sense of ease and capability to the camera for the most part, and she knew how to keep the banter going with the judges and contestants. Sure, there was the occasional awkward moment like when post-"Eye of the Tiger" Carole Baskin went silent, but Banks was a strong presence on the stage when there was no audience and a new judge, and that's really what DWTS needed to launch the unconventional Season 29.

This was a two-hour live broadcast of the show trying to do things that it had never done before, and Tyra Banks was a host who could roll with the punches and keep the action moving. She's a skilled host thanks to other projects, and she applied what she knew to Dancing with the Stars. She wasn't Tom Bergeron or even Erin Andrews, with Andrews' shorter but certainly not insubstantial run on the show, but she did what needed to be done. Well done, Tyra!

What Didn't Work With Tyra Banks As Dancing With The Stars Host

Tyra Banks may be comfortable in front of the camera, but I didn't get the impression that she was entirely comfortable with Dancing with the Stars just yet. Some of her beats worked, like when she said she had to change out of her show-stopping red dress from the opening because she wouldn't be able to wear it for two hours. Others didn't work, in my opinion, like when she went back and forth with Carrie Ann Inaba over her lost earring and didn't realize that lifts aren't allowed in certain dances on DWTS.

To me, she felt like a guest host who knew how to handle herself with a microphone in front of a camera, but wasn't quite a Dancing with the Stars expert with the level of banter and familiarity that Tom Bergeron brought to the stage on a weekly basis. Tyra Banks faced a tough challenge by stepping in for both Bergeron and Andrews, and while she could roll with the punches, I didn't feel like she figured out how to go with the flow of the show just yet. She was clearly trying very hard; I just wish I couldn't tell that she was trying so hard, and she distracted from the dancing rather than showcasing it, in my book.

The Verdict On Tyra Banks On Dancing With The Stars So Far

Personally, I wasn't 100% thrilled with Tyra Banks' first go at hosting Dancing with the Stars, and I wondered more than once why Tom Bergeron had to go. Banks could nail the hosting duties on America's Got Talent, perhaps because there is always such a variety of acts with no need for much specific expertise. DWTS is very specifically about dance, and I'm hoping that she settles into hosting the dance show sooner rather than later.

All of that said, I'm not going to say that Tyra Banks was a bad choice to take on hosting Dancing with the Stars at all. If ABC was determined to replace Tom Bergeron and wasn't going to pull somebody from within the DWTS family, such as with veteran pro dancer Derek Hough stepping up to judge in Len Goodman's place, then Banks was a logical choice. Plus, circumstances are so different in this season of Dancing with the Stars due to the pandemic that Bergeron might have struggled as well.

Despite the canned cheering, clapping, and occasionally booing for some strange reason, it was hard to ignore that this live episode was being filmed without an audience. Group numbers were out of the question, and the judges were far more separate than usual. If it felt strange to me as a viewer, how jarring must it have been in person? Even though Tyra Banks isn't a Dancing with the Stars veteran, she knows her way around a stage, and I have to imagine that hosting a show full of glitz and glamor without an audience would have been difficult.

So, while I'm not altogether sold on Tyra Banks as Dancing with the Stars host when Tom Bergeron was completely at ease and entertaining, I'm also not going to rant and rave about her based on something she had never done before, live, for two hours, without an audience. Besides, the contestants haven't nailed the banter just yet either, so maybe she just needs to find her groove and she'll be exactly what DWTS fans are missing after losing Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

The new season of Dancing with the Stars will certainly be a banner one. While many fans are beginning to get excited for the prospect of watching the new set of awesome celebrities hit the ballroom, some are, undoubtedly, still reeling from the loss of Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews as hosts. Supermodel / producer extraordinaire Tyra Banks now has DWTS hosting duties on lock (along with coming in as an executive producer), and Andrews has responded to Banks' comments about taking over for her.

Those behind the scenes at Dancing with the Stars clearly wanted to shake things up in a big way when they dismissed Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews to bring former America's Got Talent and America's Next Top Model host (and also creator of the latter series) Tyra Banks onto the show. Even though Banks is obviously excited for this new venture, she knows that long time fans of DWTS are likely to be wary of such a big change, and she's been very appreciative of what the previous hosts did, noting that she wants to continue their legacy and do the show right.

Erin Andrews recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and a fan asked what she thought of Banks saying that it "will be a challenge to step into [Erin's] shoes" as she becomes the new host of DWTS, to which Andrews replied:

Well, at least it seems like Erin Andrews isn't holding any grudges against Tyra Banks for walking away with her job, right? Andrews was more than willing to acknowledge that it was nice of Banks to say she realizes it'll be difficult to fill the sportscaster's DWTS shoes, but seems more intrigued about the idea of Banks also replacing Tom Bergeron.

As Andrews said, it's hard to think of Dancing with the Stars and not also think of Tom Bergeron. He was an original fixture of the show, who'd hosted for its entire run of 15 years and 28 seasons, while Andrews only came in as co-host in early 2014, starting with Season 18. Bergeron survived several co-host changes over the years, and was truly "the man" when it came to the much-loved competition, and Andrews thinks that stepping into his shoes is where Banks may see the real challenge once Season 29 begins airing.

Tyra Banks has made it known that she's a fan of Dancing with the Stars, and has definitely also been sure to give Tom Bergeron his due while talking about taking over as host. When the announcement was first made that fans would be getting a fashionable upgrade in the host for the upcoming season, Banks noted that "Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy," so she sees the value in what was done before, while still being ready to make the position her own, and that's really the best that viewers can hope for.

It looks like the rumors were true, with Tiger King subject and animal activist Carole Baskin joining Dancing with the Stars for Season 29. Even though Disney star Skai Jackson is part of the crew, one could almost wish that Dancing with the Stars would switch up their Disney Night to bring in a Netflix Night to bring out some Tiger King and Cheer-themed performances. It’s official! Dancing with the Stars has another new recruit lined up to compete for Tyra Banks’ first season as host and executive producer. Until now, only The Bachelorette’s Kaitlyn Bristowe had gotten confirmed to compete, but audiences can add Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean to the list of stars set to dance for the mirror ball trophy. As announced on Good Morning America, AJ McLean is the latest Backstreet Boys member to compete on Dancing with the Stars. Nick Carter previously competed for Season 21, coming in second with his pro partner, Sharna Burgess. Speaking of which, the newly-blonde Burgess will be back to compete for Tyra Banks’ first season, so it's of course possible that she could also end up as McLean's dancing parter.

Who will could be competing with McLean? We won't find out until the official announcement is revealed on Wednesday, September 2, but that doesn't mean there aren't rumors and speculations flying around.

Tiger King’s Carole Baskin is one of the more WTF names rumored to be in the running for Dancing with the Stars' new season, per Entertainment Tonight. Baskin shot to notoriety as the nemesis of Joe Exotic in the Netflix phenomenon that swept millions of viewers up into the antics of its human and animal subjects. Viewers are still staying tuned as the real-life drama surrounding Baskin continues beyond the docuseries, but could DWTS be her next career move?

Carole Baskin is not the only streaming-friendly name getting bandied about for Dancing with the Stars, though. Chrishell Stause, who has starred in Netflix’s real estate hit Selling Sunset and the long-running soap opera Days of Our Lives, is also among those on the rumored shortlist. Along with her recent work on-screen, Stause is also going through a high-profile divorce from This Is Us’ Justin Hartley.

Speaking of well-known celebrities' high-profile exes, Ellen DeGeneres’ ex-girlfriend Anne Heche is also among those rumored for Dancing with the Stars’ roster. Heche potentially joining the show comes as DeGeneres and her talk show have been dominating the headlines in not-so-positive ways.

Rounding out the possible contenders is Jerry Harris, one of the standout stars of Netflix’s cheerleading docuseries, Cheer. Harris recently got surprised by one of his favorite celebs, Gabrielle Union, who of course starred in the cheerleading comedy Bring It On. Considering her own experiences with reality TV, Union might very well warn Harris away from a DWTS stint.

Dancing with the Stars fans will soon learn fact from rumor when the full lineup gets announced next week on Good Morning America. So far, the show is circling a lot of nostalgic and presently-buzzed-about contenders. But while there were reports that headling-making physician Dr. Anthony Fauci might be joining, it would appear as if he wasn't ever officially offered the gig.

Now, former winner Jordan Fisher has spoken about the "odd" decision to have Tyra Banks replace Bergeron and Andrews.

When the announcement was made that Tyra Banks would be the new host of Dancing with the Stars for Season 29 when the show returns sometime this fall, it was also confirmed that she'd be taking on executive producer duties for the series, as well. And, while former DWTS pro Derek Hough recently said he was shocked by the show's move, he did admit that he also felt it was "understandable," but it sounds like Jordan Fisher has an entirely different take. Here's what he told Entertainment Tonight:

Jordan Fisher, who also hosted 2018's Dancing with the Stars: Juniors with former Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz, is correct that fans of the show have been stunned into some less than pleasant reactions to the news that Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews had been replaced. But, when you have a host like Bergeron who started with the show's first season, helped it become popular, and who was even nominated for nine Emmy Awards (winning in 2012) for doing said work, you don't just get rid of him unless you're looking to make some serious changes to what viewers see every week.

Fisher seems to think that DWTS will no longer be looking for a "family-oriented" tone when it returns this fall. While that might be true, it's not like Tyra Banks, who previously hosted her own daytime talk show for five years (and won a Daytime Emmy Award for doing it) as well as hosting America's Next Top Model and America's Got Talent, is known for showing up to host a show and saying / doing wildly inappropriate or suggestive things that would turn families off.

Banks has already said that she's been a fan of Dancing with the Stars since the beginning, and seeing as how she's coming on as an additional executive producer along with hosting, it's unlikely that she's looking to make radical changes which would lead to nip slips or f-bombs getting dropped.

More than anything, it sounds like the show is simply looking to shake things up after Season 28 (which aired last fall), managed to average fewer viewers than any of its seasons before. On top of that, fans have been complaining about the voting system for the show for several seasons now, and changes made last time around not only didn't seem to help, but actually made the outcry worse.

Until we get a look at the new, Tyra Banks-led DWTS, I'm sure many fans will be echoing the thoughts of Jordan Fisher, who also said:

Earlier this month, long-time hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were fired from ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Bergeron’s exit was especially surprising, since he’d been hosting the reality competition show since its premiere in 2005. However, professional ballroom dancer Derek Hough is of the mindset that Dancing with the Stars' decision to replace Bergeron is “understandable.”

Upon announcing Tom Bergeron’s firing from Dancing with the Stars, ABC reps released a statement citing that the competition show would be going in a “new creative direction” for Season 29, and soon announced that Tyra Banks would be the new host and EP. While this change upset many longtime fans of the ABC series, Derek Hough believes Bergeron’s departure is actually par for the course in Hollywood. Here’s what he said to Bevy Smith during an appearance on SiriusXM's Bevelations:

It might be “understandable,” but I still think it’s disappointing that Dancing with the Stars will return next season without Tom Bergeron, especially with regular judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli expected to return for Season 29. Derek Hough himself has also been a staple of the show for many seasons, so perhaps he’s thinking along the lines of how the pro dancers are often swapped in and out to include new faces every now and again.

Whatever the case, ABC execs hired former America’s Next Top Model and America’s Got Talent host Tyra Banks as Tom Bergeron’s replacement to “reinvigorate” Dancing with the Stars for its upcoming season. Banks, who will also serve as executive producer, is “excited to continue” Bergeron’s legacy moving forward. And you know what? Derek Hough also isn’t against the decision to hire Banks at all. In his words:

I suppose that Dancing with the Stars going in a new creative direction does start with a new host, and Tyra Banks is very experienced when it comes to fulfilling that role. So for all intents and purposes, she likely will be pretty “fantastic” hosting the ABC series. Either way, I’ll definitely be tuning in to see how the shake-up will impact the competition series, and whether or not Derek Hough will be around in some capacity.

For 15 years and 28 seasons on ABC, Dancing with the Stars had America's Funniest Home Videos vet Tom Bergeron front and center as the main host, with Erin Andrews serving as co-host since Season 18. That all changed this week, however, as Bergeron and Andrews were fired from the long-running competition series, with producers aiming to take things in a somewhat new direction for Season 29. Now, the network has announced the new host that will be kicking off a new era of Dancing with the Stars: Tyra Banks.

That's right, the former host of America's Got Talent and America's Next Top Model, which she also created, will now be the front-woman for an unscripted series that doesn't have "America" in the title. (But will hopefully still have as much GIF potential.) Tyra Banks won't merely be serving as the host for Dancing with the Stars, but she'll also be involved behind the scenes as an executive producer working alongside showrunner and fellow EP Andrew Llinares.

Tyra Banks is a true powerhouse in the entertainment industry and is recognizable all around the world as a TV mainstay, a beloved supermodel, and a highly successful businesswoman. Just look at how many Top Model spinoffs there are across the globe. (There are around 50 of them.) So there's little mystery behind why ABC wanted to bring Banks on board to inject some freshness into the celebrity-filled show.

It's possible that those who were looking hard enough realized that changes were imminent for the ABC series. The most recent season of Dancing with the Stars marked the first time in the show's run that the network opted to skip the spring cycle in order to focus on the fall. The shift did not appear to create a wave of eager fans, however, with Season 28 averaging fewer viewers than any season before it, on top of a finale that frustrated Erin Andrews herself. All involved are clearly hoping that Tyra Banks will rejuvenate the 15-year-old series.

For years, actor Scott Foley was a dashing member of the cast of ABC's Scandal, and he stuck with the network for his latest project, the romance-tinged action-drama Whiskey Cavalier. There, he'll be mixing it up with co-star Lauren Cohan, and viewers will no doubt want to see their two characters hooking up before too long. As such, it seems like the perfect time for Foley to reflect on more awkward TV experiences, such as his worst on-screen kiss.

While appearing on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, Scott Foley took part in host Andy Cohen's ridiculous game "Holey Moley, Scott Foley," which involved him answering a series of personal and potentially embarrassing questions about his career's past. When asked about his worst on-screen kiss, Foley took little time in coming up with this name:

At that point, Andy Cohen opened his mouth extremely wide and asked Scott Foley if that was how Tyra Banks approached the kiss, to which Foley bemusedly agreed. Some people might have felt awkward to go on TV and put someone else's TV kissing skills on blast, but Foley doesn't look like he gets nervous or awkward about doing anything. Tyra Banks showed up on Felicity for a three-episode stint during Season 3. She played Jane Scott, a temporary apple of the eye of Noel Crane, Scott Foley's character. Becoming attracted to Jane after fixing her computer and learning more about her interests, Noel sets up a series of "coincidental" meet-ups so that he can spend more time with Jane, who's not so into it at first.

By her third episode, though, Noel and Jane bonded a bit, despite her having another love interest, and one particular sequence set them up in the bedroom for an evening of scantily clad hijinks. Naturally, this was where Noel and Jane shared their first kiss, which means it's where Scott Foley and Tyra Banks obviously also locked lips.

Now, it's not guaranteed that the kiss above was indeed their very first one, considering the scene likely went through multiple takes before the final shot was decided upon. They did do some more smooching while laid out in the bed, though that didn't last too long.

Just before anything too heavily sexual went down, Noel confessed that he had been basically stalking Jane through reading her emails, at which point she threw him out. Perfectly natural reaction on her part.

One wonders what Tyra Banks would do with Scott Foley if he'd drop this non-complimentary admission on her in the heat of a passionate exchange. I mean, he's married, so there would be more complications than just the on-screen kiss confession, but still.

How about a couple more fun facts about good ol' Scott Foley? When asked if he'd ever had sex in his actor's trailer, Foley immediately said, "Yes," and agreed it was on multiple occasions. He also laughed when admitting that he has passed gas on the set of a project while hoping no one else would notice. Scott Foley is human, y'all, just like us.

We've been hearing rumors for a bit now that America's Got Talent was going to be switching things up with its hosts and even some judges for its upcoming Season 14, and now we know that this is, indeed, the case, and who will be taking over. As you may have guessed from the photo that tops this article, Terry Crews, who's been killing it as host of America’s Got Talent: The Champions for several weeks now, will be taking over from Tyra Banks as host of the competition. And, the judges panel will be losing Mel B and Heidi Klum when the show hits the airwaves this summer, with Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough taking over for the exiting duo.

NBC confirmed the news today that Tyra Banks, Mel B and Heidi Klum would all be stepping down from their posts on America's Got Talent and that they'd be replaced by Terry Crews on the host front, and actress Gabrielle Union and dancer Julianne Hough in the judges' seats. If you're worried that your favorite show is changing too much, though, don't worry, because Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel will be returning to judge the hopeful acts as they have for several years now.

Terry Crews is no surprise as new host for the reality competition. As mentioned earlier, he's been hosting America’s Got Talent: The Champions, which brought back 50 of the biggest global acts from past seasons of the franchise, since the inaugural season of this mega-contest began on January 7. And, he's been bringing just as much heart and enthusiasm as he usually does to his many projects. While Crews hosted the sports competition Ultimate Beastmaster for Netflix in 2017, he's more well-known as an actor and product spokesman, but that doesn't mean his many skills aren't well utilized in the hosting role.

If you don't know Terry Crews, you've been missing out. The former professional football player has made great strides in his acting career since he started on the syndicated game show Battle Dome in 1999. Crews has played a wide variety of tough guys, tough but loving fathers, unintentionally funny men and kindhearted muscle men during his time on screen and always made the most of every part he's won. He's most recognizable for his work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which was picked up for Season 6 by NBC in 2018, but he can also be seen in Everybody Hates Chris, Friday After Next, White Chicks, Idiocracy and The Expendables film franchise.

Actress, author and producer Gabrielle Union might not be a massive household name, but she's been in the game for almost 30 years and certainly knows how to recognize talent when she sees it. Union is probably best known for her breakout role in Bad Boys II with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, but, more recently, she headed up her own drama on BET, Being Mary Jane, which ran from 2013 through 2017 and will wrap up with a finale movie this April.

Union has amassed 80 TV and film credits, and also lent her talents to projects like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Sister, Sister, 7th Heaven, 10 Things I Hate About You, Bring It On, Love & Basketball, Ugly Betty, Think Like A Man and Breaking In. She will reprise her Bad Boys role in a series centered on her character in L.A.'s Finest, which will debut later this year. In late 2017, Union published her first book, the memoir We're Going to Need More Wine.

Most of the judges and hosts who've graced America's Got Talent have shown off their skills in a variety of entertainment areas, and Julianne Hough is no different. While many will know her for her time dancing and judging on the hit competition Dancing with the Stars, she began to branch out with her first major film role in Burlesque in 2010. The professional dancer, choreographer and actor is also an accomplished singer who released two solo albums in 2008. Hough has also shown off that talent along with some of her acting work (with her starring roles in Grease Live! and Rock of Ages), and has also appeared in Footloose, Safe Haven, Dirty Grandpa and Speechless.

If you're a long time fan of America's Got Talent, you'll know that the show has gone through a few hosts and several judges since it began in 2006. Hosting a show like this requires someone who can have a gentle touch but still be off-the-cuff funny, display never-ending energy and keep things moving along for the live audience as well as the audience at home. While Nick Cannon, who hosted the series from 2009 through 2016, fulfilled those duties wonderfully (and frequently in fabulously sparkly shoes), he left the post after coming under scrutiny with the network over things he said about NBC in his comedy special Stand Up, Don't Shoot. That brief controversy, and the host switch to Tyra Banks, didn't do anything to dull the appeal of the show, though.

One of the reasons that America's Got Talent has lasted as long as it has, and remained the number one alternative show each summer for 13 seasons, is the breadth of amazing and often wacky talent that is displayed among the competitors, no matter who is hosting or judging. While every season has brought us more traditional acts like singers, musicians, dancers and comedians, we've also been treated to danger acts, acrobats, animal spectaculars, magicians, mentalists, aerial acts and even folks who throw things up for a living or spit into each others mouths for fun. Fans know that you can always count on an episode of America's Got Talent to surprise you, and whether those surprises are good or bad is part of the fun.

America's Got Talent will continue to inspire shock, awe and aspiring performers of all kinds when it returns with new host Terry Crews and new judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough (who'll be joining Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell) for Season 14 this summer. Some reality shows have remarkable consistency from season to season with their judges. Other shows bounce around and incorporate new faces almost every year. During its initial run, America's Got Talent mixed it up quite a bit, but recently, a more stable crew has emerged. Howie Mandel has been on board since Season 5, Heidi Klum and Mel B since Season 8 and Simon Cowell since Season 11. If the latest rumors are to be believed, however, that all could be about to change.

Right now, America's Got Talent is in the middle of a season of champions. The spinoff brought with it all four current judges but swapped out host Tyra Banks for Terry Crews. The show has already been renewed for Season 14, but Page Six is claiming that when it does return, Simon Cowell may be the only one back. No one on the show is commenting on the record, but the outlet is claiming its sources are saying the talk originally centered on whether to bring Mel B back and eventually questions about all the others were raised, with Simon allegedly "ready" for new judges.

Now, at this point, all of this is just a wild rumor without any confirmation, but it's important to note there is some related smoke. Some whispers of Tyra Banks leaving as host have been swirling for weeks, and Terry Crews hosting the spinoff definitely isn't the best sign for her future, though some are claiming she's the one who decided to bail. We might never know, but at some point sooner rather than later, we will get confirmation on the status of the rest of the judges.

It's always important to keep a judging panel fresh, but it's also worth noting that the America's Got Talent judges have pretty good chemistry and pretty good diversity of opinion. Simon Cowell is the blunt and aggressive one. Howie Mandel brings a wholesome and warm-hearted energy. Heidi Klum always has the most delightful reactions, and Mel B does a good job of waffling back and forth between genuinely rooting for the contestants but also providing direct feedback. The balance is there.

There aren't any rumors as to who might take over any of the judging spots if they end up vacated, but with the show headed for a summer return, we should start getting some answers soon. I predict we'll see a new host and probably one new judge, but I obviously have no inside knowledge and am just guessing as a fan. America's Got Talent may be looking for a new host soon. Current host Tyra Banks may be exiting the NBC series following its latest installment. Banks has hosted the talent competition since 2017, and she is reportedly planning to leave the show.

The reason for her exit? Tyra Banks has reportedly decided to leave America's Got Talent to focus on the producing side of her thriving career. The news comes according to an exclusive by Page Six. Adding to her reported decision to exit is the success of the long-awaited sequel to Life-Size -- Life-Size 2: A Christmas Eve.

According to the report, the sequel and its tremendous performance have led to a bevy of offers for Tyra Banks. Those proposals include roles both in front of and behind the camera. So the good news is that Banks should not be away from the entertainment scene for too long following her reported AGT departure.

Tyra Banks took over hosting duties on America's Got Talent from Nick Cannon in Season 12. Accordingly, she has hosted the show for two seasons since joining. The series is currently coming up on Season 14.

If she is leaving, it would not be the first time that Tyra Banks exited a high-profile hosting job. She previously created, hosted, and judged America's Next Top Model for over 20 seasons.

One sign that Tyra Banks may be on her way to departing America's Got Talent is that she is not set to host the show's spinoff. A few months ago, it was announced that Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Terry Crews would host America's Got Talent: The Champions. That show is set to premiere in January 2019.

If Tyra Banks were to continue hosting America's Got Talent, it stands to reason she would have also hosted the spinoff. Of course, one may not have anything to do with the other. But she is the only member of the current America's Got Talent cast not to also sign on for the spinoff.

While the report mentions Tyra Banks moving on to produce, one would hope that will include her presence on-screen. The success of Life-Size 2 should hopefully propel the franchise to even more follow-ups in the future. Given how excited fans were for a sequel, imagine how well a television series would do? Just putting it out there.

As for who will take over as host of America's Got Talent from Tyra Banks, the report did not say. If Terry Crews is available and willing, he would be the perfect person to take over hosting the original series. The actor and host is quite busy, though, with the newly revived Brooklyn Nine-Nine premiering January 10 on NBC. So it may be too much to ask for him to keep hosting AGT. Time will tell.

And while this recreation wasn't quite as powerful as the original scene, it was fun to see Banks poke fun at herself for completely losing her mind during an early episode of America's Next Top Model.

For those of you who don't remember (shame on you), Tyra Banks and the other hosts of Top Model had a hard time with Tiffany during her tenure on the show. The aspiring model had a defeatist attitude that would often hinder her performance in challenges and deliberations. When she and a fellow contestant were sent home in a shocking double elimination, Tiffany laughed it off and was ready to kick rocks. But Tyra didn't like this attitude, and made her return to the judging spot and get reamed out by the supermodel turned actress/television personality.

All jokes aside, this freakout is definitely one of the most iconic moments of reality competition TV ever. Hosts of these types of shows are so often stoic and planned in their interactions with the contestants, but you can't deny that Tyra Banks lost control and went off on Tiffany in this clip. And while Banks went on to throw shade at a few other contestants across the years, this one takes the cake. Now she just needs to stay out of trouble at America's Got Talent, after being slapped with a lawsuit by one of the singers.

Lucy Liu

In 2015, Lucy Liu took to Twitter to reveal the birth of her son, Rockwell Lloyd Liu. She posted this adorable photo of herself with her son:

In interviews, the Elementary actress confirmed reports a gestational surrogate carried her son. Lucy Liu told CBS News she never realized there was any stigma attached to surrogacy until after she revealed how her son was born and friends told her not to listen to any criticism. She explained,

Lucy Liu decided to work with Tylenol on the campaign #HowWeFamily. The campaign encourages societal acceptance of the many types of families in the world. In support of the campaign, Lucy Liu said,

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

Sarah Jessica Parker had not yet wrapped on Sex and the City 2 when she and her movie star husband, Matthew Broderick, announced their two additions to the family, twins Tabbitha Hodge and Marion Loretta. Later in 2009, SJP spoke to Billy Bush of Access Hollywood and elucidated on her decision to hire a gestational surrogate to expand her family. She explained,

Unfortunately, the paparazzi somehow found and followed Sarah Jessica Parker's surrogate. Tabloids questioned the surrogate's character, but Sarah Jessica Parker firmly denied those reports as "slander and libel." In fact, the paparazzi not only hounded the surrogate, but according to Sarah Jessica Parker, the photographers once mistook the surrogate's pregnant friend for the surrogate and chased her to take a picture. Sarah Jessica Parker said,

In an interview with Vogue, Sarah Jessica Parker talked about confronting pressure to keep the surrogacy a secret. The movie star said it was difficult not to have a chance to celebrate or share worries during the gestational period in the way one might under other circumstances. She emphasized how different it feels to wait nine months to talk about the baby news. But on the whole, it sounded like Sarah Jessica Parker's surrogacy experience was incredible. She stated,

Wow, that is pretty magical stuff.

Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery

Like Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Pompeo was already a mother of one--daughter Stella Luna Ivery--when the actress enlisted the services of a surrogate to help her and her husband, Chris Ivery, have another child. In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Grey's Anatomy actress opened up about the terrific experience she had and said,

Thanks to surrogacy, Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery welcomed Sienna May Ivery to the family.

Tyra Banks and Erik Asla

A gestational surrogate helped Tyra Banks welcome York Banks Asla, her son with photographer Erik Asla, in 2016. The former Victoria's Secret Angel took to social media to reveal the birth and wrote,

The supermodel and media mogul continues to post photos of her beautiful baby boy. It looks like he has already learned how to work the camera and "smize." Check out those beautiful blue eyes:

With a supermodel mom and a fashion photographer dad, this little guy could one day follow in his parents' footsteps in the entertainment business.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban

Before turning to surrogacy, Academy Award-winner Nicole Kidman was already mom to two adopted children from her marriage to Tom Cruise and one biological child with her husband, Keith Urban. She had previously talked about the troubles she and Urban faced conceiving their first biological child, daughter Sunday Rose Urban. They turned to in-vitro fertilization to help them have her but then opted to recruit a surrogate to have their second biological daughter, Faith Margaret Urban. The couple released a statement, and they said,

Like Sarah Jessica Parker and Mathew Broderick, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban kept silent about the surrogacy until after the baby was born. Now rumors have it Kidman and Urban had such a fantastic surrogacy experience that they are looking for another surrogate to expand their family with one more child.

Jimmy Fallon

The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon and his wife, Nancy Fallon, reportedly tried to have a child for five years before reaching out to a surrogate. Like other celebrities, they did not talk about the experience until after their daughter, Winnie Fallon, was born. However, he announced her birth in a cute monologue on his show. After the great experience the Fallons had with their surrogacy journey, they recruited a surrogate to carry their second daughter, Frances Cole Fallon, who was born in 2014.

Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance

Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance had twins via surrogacy in 2006. The stars brought their two little ones with them for a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey. Bassett explained that she felt had devastated after undergoing seven years of fertility treatments with no luck. Then one day her friend shared the news that she and her husband were going to have a child in four months. The American Horror Story and Black Panther actress said her friend did not look pregnant at all, so Bassett asked for details and discovered her friend had recruited a surrogate. Bassett said,

On the show, the movie star became emotional when she talked about how full her heart was with her two boys, Bronwyn Vance and Slater Vance. She said it was a powerful thing to stand there at the hospital with her husband and their surrogate and realize their dreams were about to come true.

Angela Bassett's American Horror Story co-star, Matt Bomer, also became a parent with the help of surrogacy. Bomer publicly came out of the closet in 2014 when he announced he and his publicist husband, Stephan Hall, had married three years earlier. Since then, Bomer and Hall have become busy dads with three boys, including twins.

The list of Hollywood stars turning to surrogacy does not stop here. Many other stars, including Star Wars producer George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, have opted for surrogacy to have a child. Actress Katey Sagal had her daughter, Esme Louise, via surrogate. Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly Buffington, also used surrogacy to have their twins in 2007. Similarly, surrogacy helped Ricky Martin become a single dad when he had twin boys in 2008. Power Rangers star Elizabeth Banks and her husband, Max Handelman, also had twins as a result of surrogacy.

So, it seems like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are going to join an illustrious group. It will be interesting to see how open about the surrogacy journey they are on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Back when reality competition shows were breaking out, one of the most popular elements were the audition episodes, in which judges like Simon Cowell would rip people to shreds for their talents, or lack thereof. Crapping on others was a foundation of the genre, but times have definitely changed, and America's Got Talent is now at the center of a lawsuit over a contestant's claims that she and her husband were humiliated by Tyra Banks, and that the host traumatized their young daughter. Let it surprise no one that Cowell is on this show now.

Yeah, this sounds like a troublesome one, although it's obviously hard to know what really went down. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday -- you can read it via Deadline -- and the plaintiff "Jane Doe" states that she and her husband performed for a March 19 taping of America's Got Talent, singing a song they'd written together that celebrated their daughter, named Mary in the suit, and the bonds of family. But the thought was not what counted here, and the judges and audience members weren't exactly kind to the performers, which plays into the humiliation identified in the lawsuit.

Jane Doe claims the show's producers gave her daughter Mary a waiver contract to sign, one that contestants usually have to sign in acknowledging that insults and ridicule can occur, but that the parents weren't present or even notified that Mary was even presented with a waiver. (As well, requests by the plaintiff to see said waiver were reportedly denied.) Either way, it's likely that no paperwork would have ceased the events laid out in the suit, as seen below.

Making matters potentially worse, the daughter is said to have had a particular fondness for that song, but after the America's Got Talent taping, hearing it or even any mention of it reportedly caused her to become extremely anxious and nervous. Similar reactions are said to happen whenever Mary thinks about the footage airing.

A lawsuit is always going to word things in the most emotionally grinding way possible, so one person's "pulled hair back and physically manipulated her" can be another person's "hair tousle." According to the suit, where the defendant is production company Marathon Productions, requests have been made by the plaintiffs to keep the footage from airing and thus causing more trauma to the daughter, but those requests were reportedly denied.

Tyra Banks made headlines when she joined America's Got Talent earlier this year, though not as many headlines as former host Nick Cannon, who notably and publicly quit the show after NBC raised concerns over jokes that Cannon made on a recent stand-up special. Getting sued before the first episode airs, though, is a good way to jump-start the headline train again.

The first 22 seasons of America's Next Top Model were filled with so many ups and downs that we could never really take anything for granted. One thing that we could always count on, however, was the constantly quotable commentary from host Tyra Banks. She left behind the role of host after the show moved from The CW to VH1, choosing to focus on non-TV business ventures. Recently, however, she announced that she'd resume her hosting duties for Season 24, and she explained her reasoning for returning, saying this:

As it turns out, Tyra Banks' big return to America's Next Top Model is all about pleasing fans of the series. According to TV Guide, Banks made the decision to give viewers what they wanted was at least partly to keep ANTM from being cancelled for good. The series was saved from fading into nothingness when VH1 renewed it following The CW's cancellation; there's no guarantee that it would get another life elsewhere if it got the axe from VH1.

Tyra Banks was replaced by Rita Ora as host for Season 23, and fans apparently did not respond to Ora as well as the folks behind the scenes had hoped. Banks was still on board America's Next Top Model as an executive producer, so we can be sure that she kept a close eye on how many people were watching with Ora as host. What she saw was evidently discouraging enough that she decided to return to her role in front of the camera only a year after she first left it.

Interestingly, she'll be pretty busy in front of the camera in the not-too-distant future. In addition to returning as host of America's Next Top Model, she recently signed on to take Nick Cannon's place as host of America's Got Talent on NBC. We'll have to wait and see if she'll be able to continue focusing on her non-TV business ventures now that she's venturing back onto the small screen.

Tyra Banks sure likes working on shows with "America" in the title. It was recently announced that Tyra Banks would be the new host of America's Got Talent, a gig that will be sure to take up a lot of Banks' time as she takes over for former host Nick Cannon. Hosting just one show would normally be enough for most people, but Banks is nothing if not a multi-tasker, and she will be hosting an additional show, though, it's one she's intimately familiar with. Banks is coming back to host America's Next Top Model, having previously hosted 22 seasons of the competition show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Banks will join the new season of the long-running competition show and reprise her role as host. Banks previously hosted America's Next Top Model, having been the face of the show for 22 seasons and 12 years. Banks created the show in 2003 and stepped down as host after the show was canceled by the CW in 2015. The show was quickly scooped up by VH1, where it aired its 23rd season just last year. Singer Rita Ora became the new host while Banks stayed on as an executive producer. As for why Banks decided to return after a year away, she cites her fans, saying in a statement that she was "overwhelmed and humbled by the intensity of the ANTM fan base whose deep affection for the show led me to have a change of heart."

This news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Banks would be the new host of America's Got Talent. Banks will assume her duties as host for Season 12, taking over for Nick Cannon. Cannon announced his departure from the show after NBC executives supposedly considered firing him over comments he made about the company trying to control him during a Showtime stand-up special. NBC ultimately decided to forgive and forget, but Cannon decided it was time to leave the show. Now Banks will step in and we'll have to see how she handles the gig.

Since its debut in June 2006, America's Got Talent has been a ratings winner for ABC, and one that has been largely without any forms of controversy helping to boost or limit its viewership. But that all changed earlier this year, when longtime host Nick Cannon exited the show over "creative differences" with NBC. Though many were hopeful that cooler heads would prevail, with Cannon returning to host Season 12 as planned, it looks like that ship has sailed, and the producers have signed former America's Next Top Model judge Tyra Banks to take over.

Getting Tyra Banks as the face at the front of America's Got Talent is both a really smart decision and a potentially not so smart decision. It's not much of a mystery why the idea is a good one, since so much of the model's career has taken her in front of the camera in one capacity or another. Beyond her Fresh Prince of Bel-Air appearances and years on the talk show circuit, she hosted The Tyra Banks Show from 2005-2011, hosted over 180 episodes of Fablife from 2015-2016 (before quitting) and, of course, was a major force on America's Next Top Model for 22 seasons. Not to mention being a board member for the most recent season of Celebrity Apprentice. There's no lack of familiarity with her in the least.

On the flip side, Tyra Banks is known for being a well put-together woman whose hosting presence can be considered pretty tame, at least on the shows where that behavior was called for. Anyone who has ever watched Nick Cannon hosting America's Got Talent knows that "tame" does not describe his efforts, as he is a ball of manic energy when it comes to both showcasing both the contestants' oddball skills and lightly antagonizing the judges. Granted, Banks was hired as a replacement host for AGT, and not as a Nick Cannon substitute, so perhaps she'll give the show a new flavor that fans will immediately get behind.

A little over a month ago, this bit of news would have seemed like pure fiction, as the big Cannon-troversy formed in February as a result of jokes made during Nick Cannon's Showtime comedy special Stand Up, Don't Shoot. After rumors surfaced that NBC execs were considering firing the comedian for making disparaging comments about the network during his set, Cannon publicly resigned from the show, offering up an extensive explanation behind it, saying it definitely wasn't the first time that networks and/or studios had tried to silence him in some way. Though many thought the situation would blow over, with Cannon agreeing to return, that didn't happen, and now his void has been filled.

Howie Mandel, who has been one of America's Got Talent's judges since Season 5, was vocal about wanting Nick Cannon to return to the show for Season 12. But that obviously didn't mean no one else would do, as Mandel himself put out an announcement about Tyra Banks' joining the show on Twitter.

No premiere date has been set just yet for America's Got Talent Season 12, but now that Tyra Banks has been secured as a replacement, one has to assume ABC will announce something soon. While new reality programs are hitting the schedule at more infrequent rates these days, there are still a slew of long-running reality competition programs that are going strong—especially on network TV. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and news this week indicates that the long-running America’s Next Top Model will be ending after Season 22. The news comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Tyra Banks, who has hosted the long-running series since its inception, indicated this morning that the show will be ending via social media.

There’s no word from the CW right now that indicates whether the decision was from the network or from Banks and the rest of her creative team, although a little bit of both might be the answer, as well. America’s Next Top Model has had a long fall from its heyday, where it brought in millions of viewers and launched the careers of plenty of women, including Analeigh Tipton, YaYa DaCosta and other big names. The show has been declining in viewership for some time. In fact, back in 2012, the CW shifted its schedule to move ANTM to Friday nights, a primetime timeslot that is notoriously difficult to work with. Last Friday’s episode, for instance, only saw 1 million total viewers tune in, yielding a paltry .3 rating for the series.

All things considered, it's probably time for the show to call it quits. Regardless of the reason for the show’s ending, America’s Next Top Model will air its final episode on Friday, December 4 at 9 p.m. ET, according to Tyra.

Clearly, there’s a niche group of fans who have stuck with America’s Next Top Model over the years and will be sorry to see the series go. But at least the show is getting a proper ending with the Season 22 finale and will go out with a slew of seasons and winners under its belt. That’s a distinction that many—nay most—shows never really get.

Back in the days when Lindsay Lohan was a cute child with red hair and Tyra Banks hadn’t quite unleashed her “fiercest” amount of crazy, the two came together to create Life-Size, an original movie about a doll coming to life to share some parenting wisdom with a motherless young girl. Now, the Disney Channel has announced it will put together a sequel to the TV movie flick, aptly titled Life-Size 2.

Tyra Banks has had a little more free time on her hands since she quit her daytime talk show a couple of years ago. Which means she totally has time in her schedule and has signed on to reprise her role as Eve. The news was confirmed to EW, which also notes the America’s Next Top Model host is set to executive produce the TV movie. A remix of the track, “Be A Star,” is also expected to appear in the flick.

Since Lindsay Lohan is no longer a young, fresh-faced girl in need of a mother (although the latter could be contested), it’s unlikely she’ll reprise her role in the series. She, like Banks, probably has some free time in her schedule, so I don’t think it’s too much to hope the actress might pop up in a cameo. Although, a low budget Disney Channel original flick might even be too grubby for a low-rated Elizabeth Taylor knock-off to even invest in. Operating a little behind the schedule of the big four networks, the CW issued its annual early return orders, and upon first glance, there's no big surprises. The channel's most popular offering Vampire Diaries will be back for an entire season, along with Supernatural, Gossip Girl, 90210, and of course, America's Next Top Model. Here's where things get interesting though. The renewals themselves might not be shocking, but one of the shows has a big surprise in store for fans.

America's Next Top Model will premiere its first all-star season in the fall. Don't be fooled by the wording though. Today, the network emphasized they'll be bringing back many of the women who had the best stories and most audience appeal. Just in case you were thinking for a second the show was actually about modeling, the CW went ahead and cleared up any confusion. Who the hell am I kidding with this snark though? I'm pumped. I've watched at least fifty hours of ANTM re-runs. I may have gotten away from the series over the last few years, but this all-star season is exactly why God decided to let us record multiple shows at once.

You may have noticed not among the early returns announcements was One Tree Hill. That show's been on life support for awhile, but with five days of programming to plan, it wouldn't be a shock if it ultimately came back for at least part of a season.

No word yet on who America's Next Top Model might bring back for the special season, but TV Blend will bring you that news as soon as it become available.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what Tyra Banks is thinking in canceling her daytime talk show, as she announced that this will be the last season of The Tyra Show, after five years. With Oprah Winfrey calling it quits, there's going to be a battle royale to find out who's going to be the next queen of daytime, and Tyra had a shot.

I guess we'll just go ahead and give the crown to Ellen DeGeneres now. Unless we think Dr. Phil wants to be queen.

I find it interesting that Oprah was one of the people, along with Tyler Perry, who encouraged Banks to make a big change at this point in her career, according to People. She'll be leaving daytime to focus on her new film production company, Bankable Studios. Don't worry, it will be just as girl-powered as everything else she does, and we've still got new season of America's Next Top Model and her ABC series True Beauty coming to keep us Tyra-satisfied for the time being.

She certainly made some outrageous headlines with some of the stunts she pulled on her show, from fondling Katharine McPhee's breasts to showing us her real hair, Banks was all about taking the mystique out of womanhood.
