Have you ever found yourself watching one of the best Disney movies out there and saying, “Whoa, I did not see that coming!” Well, that’s what this list is about today – the best twists that you have probably seen from Disney, which includes the Disney film collection, Pixar movies, and even the Disney Channel. Let’s get into it.

The Truth Behind Hector And Ernesto (Coco)

In terms of the best Pixar films, Coco ranks high on that list for me, and one of the biggest reasons is because of this fantastic twist that happens. Coco spends the entire movie thinking Ernesto is his biological father. Still, it’s revealed that it’s actually Hector and that Ernesto killed Hector by poison to steal his songs and earn fame for himself. I mean, come on. That’s a good twist.

Lightning McQueen Doesn’t Get The Piston Cup (Cars)

While I’m personally not the biggest fan of the Cars franchise, I can at least say that the twist at the end of the first Cars was spectacular. In the entire movie, we see Lightning trying to train as best he can to win the Piston Cup, and when it looks like he will, he instead turns back to help an injured car across the line and let his opponent win. Talk about a mindset change.

When Cruella Discovers Who Baroness Is To Her (Cruella)

Some Disney live-action remakes or reboots are great, and I really liked Cruella and the changes it made to the iconic Disney villain’s story. In this live-action film, Cruella finds out her biological mother is the person she’s been trying to impress – and then takes it upon herself to try and beat her in the fashion industry.

The Mayor Is Behind It All (Halloweentown)

Disney Channel movies can sometimes be corny, but every once in a while, you’ll get a twist that shakes you to your core, and that was in Halloweentown. The entire city had been under some strange evil force, causing people to turn to mean, but it turns out it was the mayor who was trying to gain more power the whole time.

Hans’ Truth To Anna (Frozen)

I think we all know that Hans’ quote – “Oh, Anna, if only there were someone out there who loved you.” – is pretty much one of the biggest line drops of Frozen. We’ve been watching Hans the entire movie, thinking he’s the perfect prince for Anna, and then he pulls this out from under us, saying that it was all a ploy.

King Triton Lets Ariel Be With Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid)

I know that The Little Mermaid is part of the Disney Renaissance, which usually means that most of those princesses got their happy endings, but it still shocked me that Triton let Ariel be with Eric in a twisty way. If anything, I thought Triton would be more inclined to keep his daughter close to him after what happens, but he lets her go to Eric—which is sweet but also surprising.

Quasimodo Doesn’t Get The Girl (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

You might wonder why I put this here, and really, it’s because it defies the Disney formula. Quasimodo is the hero of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and is clearly interested in Esmerelda. It seems set up for a happy ending, but instead, Disney decides to give her to someone different, leaving Quasi all alone, which is actually a pretty surprising and sad twist.

When It’s Revealed Who Syndrome Really Is (Incredibles)

Incredibles is hands down one of the best Pixar movies out there. While I could go on forever about how amazing the movie is, I think this twist is one of the best—when we find out that the villain they are facing is the same little boy Mr. Incredible shunned years ago. That’s the epitome of karma biting back.

Meg Sacrifices Herself (Hercules)

Hercules is an underrated Pixar film, so I’m not sure how many people remember this twist. Meg tries to save Hercules during a battle but ends up dying from her injuries. However, it was all to push him out of the way of a falling pillar. While the ending leads to them being together, Meg sacrificing her life for Hercules was not something anyone expected.

Eugene Cutting Off Rapunzel’s Hair (Tangled)

Tangled is undoubtedly one of the best 2000-2010 Disney movies, and the most significant part of it is when Eugene sacrifices his life for Rapunzel to be free of Mother Gothal. It seems Rapunzel will be able to heal him in order for him to live and for her to go with Gothal, but he suddenly lunges up and cuts her hair at the last second to make sure Gothal can never use her again.

Thantos Controls The Darkness (Twitches)

While this reveal comes pretty early in the Twitches film, it’s still surprising. The Darkness is pretty much the villain that these two witches must take on, an evil entity that is killing people, but they find out soon enough that it’s actually their Uncle Thantos who is controlling it for the sake of finding power.

Vanelleope Stays Behind (Ralph Breaks The Internet)

After finding her place in Wreck-It Ralph, it was shocking that Vanelleope decided to find her own path in Ralph Breaks the Internet. While there was an option for her to come back to the arcade at the end of the movie, she chose to stay online with Slaughter Race.

Bowler Hat Guy’s True Identity (Meet The Robinsons)

Meet the Robinsons is such an underrated Disney film, and I think it gets a bad rep for the earlier usage of CGI. The twist is even better—for the entire movie, Bowler Hat Guy is the main villain we follow, but later, we find out that he’s the older version of Lewis’ roommate, Goob, meaning that he was created from Lewis’ interactions with the younger version.

Hades Is Mal’s Father (Descendents 3)

All right, so Descendents 3 is undoubtedly the least-best Descendents movie, but I will say that the fact that we find out Mal’s father is Hades of all people is something I never expected. I mean, her mother is Maleficent, and somehow, she was procreated by someone like the God of the Underworld. How does that even happen?

When We See What Kind Of True Love Is Needed (Frozen)

I think, at the time, the idea that true love doesn’t need to be romantic but can also be familial was an excellent way for Disney to step into the 21st century. I will say, however, that I do miss the days of an evil villain and a romance to root for. Even so, there is no denying that the twist of Elsa and Anna saving each other through sisterly love is a great one.

Stinky Pete Is Actually The Villain (Toy Story 2)

Many regarded Toy Story 2 as one of the best Pixar movies – that is until the third one came around. And there are plenty of great reasons for that. But one of the biggest is the twist villain. Out of all the bad things happening to Woody, none of us ever would have expected it had something to do with Stinky Pete – but it’s revealed towards the end that he planned everything.

That Mike Won The Scare Competition Because Of Sully (Monsters University)

As someone who was genuinely rooting for Mike to win that scare competition, this twist broke my heart. When Mike and Sully are conversing after their win in the scare competition, he fake tries to scare the dummy there, only for the meter to charge up completely. He snaps his fingers, and it does the same thing. Then, after that, he looks under the bed and finds the machine has been tampered with – that Sully cheated to make sure they’d win. So sad.

Troy Decides To Follow Both Passions (High School Musical 3: Senior Year)

Okay, I still love all of the High School Musical movies. Still, one of the funniest and best moments was this twist – where the entirety of the third movie was Troy trying to figure out what to do in college, and then he realized at the end, “Oh wait, I can do both theatre and basketball,” Wow, who would have thought? I think it just shocks me because it’s such a simple solution.

Callaghan’s True Intentions (Big Hero 6)

I feel like so many people forget about Big Hero 6 so often because it came out post-Frozen, and people were still riding Elsa’s ice powers and all that. But Big Hero 6 is a great superhero movie with a great villain twist when Callaghan reveals he’s the man who has been making a mess of everything and blew up the lab Tadashi was in because he wants revenge for losing his daughter in an experiment.

Charles Is Actually Evil (Up)

Up is one of those films that the moment you watch it, you probably will end up crying and feeling all kinds of things, but you never expect a twist so dark as this one. Charles Muntz was an idol of Carl’s, and when he finds out that Charles is actually a horrible person who is enslaving dogs to try and hunt down an age-old bird that Carl and Russell have taken a liking to, it causes nothing but trouble and pain.

The Waternoose Expose (Monsters Inc.)

I think everyone my age was terrified of Waternoose in Monsters Inc., but one of the biggest things that ended up being the best twist ever was how Sully somehow lured him into a scare simulation room and got him to reveal the entire conspiracy that he was doing to keep this company going—before the conversation is recorded and shown to the CDA. Beautiful, no notes.

Mason Reveals His Feelings For Juliette (Wizards Of Waverly Place)

As someone who stands by the fact that Wizards of Waverly Place is just as good as an adult, I believe this scene is still dramatic. Out of nowhere, Mason, who is a werewolf, sees his former flame Juliette for the first time in several years, and he openly admits in front of his girlfriend, Alex, that he has never stopped loving her. WHAT? As a child, this was the most shocking twist in the world for me.

King Candy’s True Identity (Wreck-It-Ralph)

Personally, I think Wreck-It Ralph is way better than the sequel, and this twist is just proof of that. King Candy seemed like a nice guy for the majority of this movie, but towards the end, we find out he is the one responsible for the messed-up code and that he is also Turbo, the character who was knocked out of his own game. It’s a huge twist.

Lotso Is Not A Nice Bear (Toy Story 3)

Another excellent example of a twist straight from the beginning is Lotso in Toy Story 3. I mean, how could a teddy bear who smells like strawberries be bad? But it turns out Lotso is king of the daycare, and if the toys don’t follow what he says, well, that’s too dang bad. It’s a toy again, toy, once again.

When It’s Revealed Who Screen Slaver Really Is (Incredibles 2)

While there are plenty of people who say that Incredibles 2 isn’t as incredible as the first, I’ll be honest and say I still enjoy the heck out of it, and I seriously love this twist. Finding out Evelyn, who has been working alongside Elastagirl this whole time, is actually the person behind everything, which is a great twist. I wish it had been executed a little better in the back half, but the twist itself is excellent.

Jake Reveals His True Feelings About Miley (Hannah Montana)

Okay, okay, don’t you remember when there were all these love triangles in Hannah Montana? I think everyone and their mother gasped when the celebrity, Jake Ryan, fully expressed his feelings for Miley Stewart on national television – not Hannah, her alter ego, but Miley. Like, stop. My heart.

When We Find Out Who Te Fiti Is (Moana)

As someone who has rewatched Moana, I find this twist to be beautiful inside and out. Moana has sailed the entire ocean to restore the heart of Te Fiti, an island, only to find out that Te Ka is actually Te Fiti – just a cold and cruel version who doesn’t have her heart anymore and is instantly turned into a green island once Moana restores it. Amazing.

Dawn Bellwether Is Actually An Evil Genius (Zootopia)

I still can’t help but snicker at this twist. In the entire movie, Mayor Bellwether is this sheep who doesn’t seem like she’s the person behind the animals going rogue, but it turns out she is—a sheep who wanted to gain more power and decided to take out predators to do that.

Bing-Bong’s Fate (Inside Out)

When Bing-Bong died, America mourned, and I did as well. In Inside Out, we see Bing-Bong, a forgotten imaginary friend of Riley’s who travels with Joy and gets stuck with her in Riley’s subconscious. Still, in order to get Joy out, he sacrifices himself by throwing him off their little rocket so Riley can be happy again – even if he gets forgotten. Ugh. Stop.

Maleficent Isn’t As Evil As Everyone Paints Her To Be (Maleficent)

I have to say that for live-action Disney villains, Angelina Jolie knocks it out of the park as Maleficent, and finding out her story in this really is the big twist we all didn’t expect. In this version, Maleficent wasn’t born evil – she was the victim of a cruel society and jokes that slowly tore her down into the woman she became later. That’s a great way to take her story.

When We Find Out Who Mor’du Really Is (Brave)

It felt like Mor’du wasn’t really that intense of a villain in Brave, considering he was just a demon bear. Still, it turns out he’s NOT just a demon bear – Mor’du is actually the prince from an old family legend who was turned into a demon bear after not following his father’s wishes.

Woody Wants To Stay Behind (Toy Story 4)

You know, I still wonder about this twist. Woody, for nearly every Toy Story movie, has always been about staying together, staying with his human, the entire time. But, at the end of Toy Story 4, he decides to become a free toy and stay with Bo-Peep while the others leave him behind. It’s a surprising twist, nonetheless.

These are just some of my favorite Disney twists, and now I want to rewatch them all to see if I can spot them early on. I think it’s time for another movie marathon.

Disney has created some of the greatest characters in movie history. The Disney Princesses are a brand unto themselves and Disney Villains include some of the most iconic characters ever conceived. However, there are also those other characters. Sometimes the characters you remember most coming out of the best animated Disney movies aren't the heroes or the villains.

Sometimes the character that steals a scene, or even an entire movie, are the sidekicks. Sometimes it's the characters that are barely in the movie at all, but are so memorable in their few moments of screen time that you want to see an entirely new movie based on them. Here are some of the best Disney side characters who have stolen scenes in our favorite films.

The Genie - Aladdin

There may be no Disney character who stole the show, who was designed to steal the show, like Aladdin's Genie. Voiced by the incomparable Robin Williams, the Genie owns every scene he's in even though the movie is never really about him.

Sebastian - The Little Mermaid

There's no better way to steal a scene in an animated Disney movie than with a great song, and Sebastian gets a great one in The Little Mermaid. "Under the Sea" won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1990 and it's not hard to see why. Considering songwriter Howard Ashman specifically designed Sebastian with a Jamaican accent so that he could write a calypso song, clearly he knew this little crab would be one of the highlights of the film.

HeiHei - Moana

It takes a certain skill to steal a scene when you can't actually speak, and yet Moana's chicken HeiHei is somehow able to do exactly that. Alan Tudyk's great voice acting (voice clucking?) combined with perfect animation make Heihei unforgettable. It's a good thing Maui didn't eat him or we would have been robbed of some hilarious moments.

Maximus -Tangled

From sword-fighting Flynn Rider to breaking him out of prison, few horses are quite as capable as Maximus. Not simply a mount for the captain of the guard, Maximus himself ultimately becomes the captain of the guard, which is only fitting considering his importance. This horse deserves all the apples.

Kronk - The Emperor's New Groove

The Emperor's New Groove is one of Disney's funniest movies, and Kronk is absolutely the funniest part of it. The sidekick to villain Yzma, Kronk is big and dumb but it's impossible not to love him. He's just so earnest, and he tries so hard, how can you not love Kronk?

Lumiere - Beauty And The Beast

Even as a candelabra, there's something irresistible about Lumiere. Nothing phases him and he can get an entire dining room dancing. He's always sure that everything will work out in Beauty and the Beast, and he does eventually turn out to be right. Clearly, he knew something the rest of us did not.

Mr. Pleakly - Lilo & Stitch

Mr. Pleakly is the last alien who should be sent after experiment 626, but he certainly does give it his all in attempting to recapture the mischievous monster. From his numerous costume changes to his perpetual fear of basically everything, Pleakly is the perfect comic sidekick.

Rutt And Tuke - Brother Bear

Rutt and Tuke are minor characters in Brother Bear but of course, they steal every scene they're in. Why? They're voiced by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, and are basically just animated versions of The McKenzie Brothers, the hilariously Canadian duo of SCTV fame that the two played in live-action. Their appearance is almost more of an easter egg than anything else, but it's a welcome one.

Louis - The Princess And The Frog

Louis is a friendly alligator who plays the trumpet in a movie where jazz music plays a pivotal role. Of course, he's going to steal the show. He leads one of the best songs and gets some of the best jokes in The Princess and the Frog.

Vincenzo “Vinny” Santorini - Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Atlantis: The Lost Empire isn't a movie that a lot of people remember, but it had an incredible voice cast including Michael J. Fox, James Garner, and Leonard Nimoy. However, the character you likely remember most is explosives expert Vinny Santorini, who was voiced by Don Novello, best known for his character Father Guido Sarducci who would appear on SNL from time to time. Vinny is a simple man who just wants to blow things up. Is that too much to ask?

Tigger - The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is made up of three different stories, one of which doesn't even include the character of Tigger. And yet, today most people don't even realize that there was a time when there was no Tigger in Disney's Winnie the Pooh. He basically takes over the movie from the title bear from the moment he arrives and never gives it back.

Cheshire Cat - Alice In Wonderland

Wonderland is a strange place full of all sorts of strange characters, but the Cheshire Cat may be one of the weirdest of them all and one of the few who seems well aware of how strange he is. This makes him instantly memorable.

Scuttle - The Little Mermaid

Buddy Hackett was a great comic talent and he brings that incredible ability to the role of Scuttle in The Little Mermaid perfectly. The seagull's cluelessness is quite endearing, making every moment the bird is on screen hilarious.

Valentino - Wish

Alan Tudyk has voiced numerous Disney characters over the last several years, but one of his best is also one of his most recent. Valentino, the goat who gains the ability to speak in Wish does not let his new gift go to waste. He embraces his new speech and every line he speaks is another scene-stealing moment.

Rhino - Bolt

Disney movies teach us that we can do anything and one has to assume that Rhino, the hamster stuck in a ball from Bolt has seen more than his share of Disney movies. Rhino never lets his small stature stand in the way of whatever he believes he can accomplish, and while what he believes he can do is a great deal more than what's actually possible, you have to love the enthusiasm.

Archimedes - The Sword In The Stone

Sometimes in the middle of a bright and happy Disney movie, what you need is an angry curmudgeon who has no patience for any of it. That's the owl Archimedes in The Sword in the Stone. He doesn't like anybody or anything, and honestly, we've all been there.

Iago - Alddin

Voiced by the great Gilbert Gottfried it's literally impossible for Iago not to steal any scene he's in. How could you possibly ignore that voice? Still, Iago is hilariously fun with his endlessly sarcastic quips.

Sgt. Calhoun - Wreck-It Ralph

Most of Wreck-It Ralph takes place inside bright and colorful video games where the characters are all pretty laid back and fun. And then there's Sgt. Calhoun, the no-nonsense hardcore leader of Hero's Duty. She's so different than everything else in the movie that she instantly draws your attention whenever she's on screen.

Meg - Hercules

Oh all Disney heroines, Megara is one of the most overlooked. While she does eventually need rescuing from the hero, she never asks for help and spends a not insignificant amount of her time making fun of Hercules. She's such a shift from what we're used to it that you can't help but want more.

Allan-a-Dale - Robin Hood

Robin Hood isn't one of Disney's musicals, but it still has some great music thanks to Alan-A-Dale, the rooster minstrel voiced by the late great Roger Miller. He's the narrator of our story, but more than once his music becomes the story.

Boun - Raya And The Last Dragon

Raya and the Last Dragon is not lacking for memorable side characters, they're all quite impressive, but restaurant owner Boun, a kid pretending to be a businessman is the best of them. He commands the screen when he's being hilarious as much as when he's being vulnerable.

Olaf - Frozen

Olaf is one of those great Disney sidekicks that could have gone terribly wrong, but great writing and solid work from Josh Gad have continued to make Olaf incredible. There's a reason the little snowman has received his own holiday specials and animated short. The Frozen movies alone can't contain him.

Duke Weaselton - Zootopia

Duke Weaselton only appears in a couple of scenes in Zootopia but they're both quite memorable, with the first being one of the movie's great action sequences, and the second being one of the funniest parts of the film, where Weaselton is selling bootleg DVDs of animal-influenced Disney films.

Bruno - Encanto

They don't talk about Bruno, but after seeing Encanto Bruno was all most people could talk about. He may have gone slightly bonkers living in the walls of his house but the love he has for his family is palpable, making his brief appearance key to the story and the movie's emotional core.

Rafiki - The Lion King

Timon and Pumbaa often get all the credit for being scene-stealing sidekicks in The Lion King but Rafiki is the one who ultimately teaches Simba the lesson that he needs to understand, and he does it in a way that is equal parts magical and ridiculous. He has less screen time than almost any other voiced character in the film, but Rafiki makes it count.

Flora, Fauna And Merriweather - Sleeping Beauty

The master plan of the three fairies to keep Aurora safe for 16 years in Sleeping Beauty doesn't exactly work, but you certainly can't say that Flora, Fauna, and Meriweather don't give it their all. Even if they can't make a decent cake or decide what color to make a dress, these three are the aunts we all would be lucky if we had.

Jock And Trusty - Lady And The Tramp

Many Disney movies deal with incredible friendships but one of the best is happening on the sidelines of Lady and the Tramp. Trusty is an old bloodhound who has lost his ability to smell and Jock is his dear friend who will never tell him that he can't smell anything because Jock knows how heartbreaking that would be for his friend.

Jasper And Horace - 101 Dalmatians

Yes, Jasper and Horace are technically bad guys, but they're hilariously incompetent bad guys, and that makes them a great deal more fun and easier to love. If Cruela deVil had been able to hire anybody smarter she might have actually been dangerous.

Jaq And Gus - Cinderella

Cinderella's little mice friends are small but they are actually a big part of her movie. Jaq is (allegedly) the brains of the operation, but Gus is too cute to ignore. They are able to get the better of Lucifer the cat in a pair of sequences that are among the best in Cinderella.

Baymax - Big Hero 6

In a movie full of superheroes, the real hero is the one who would rather heal than hurt. Baymax is just so innocent and kind that it's impossible not to love him. Eventually, it's the robot who shows the biggest heart.

Scat Cat - The Aristocats

The Aristocats is not one of Walt Disney Animation's best movies, but it does have its moments. Or at least its moment. "Everybody Wants To Be A Cat" is a classic Disney song, even if it's in a largely forgotten movie. Scatman Cruthers is the voice of his namesake kitty, and he rocks the song and steals the show.

Dodger - Oliver And Company

How do you not steal the scene when you're literally Billy Joel? Dodger in Oliver and Company is the cool dog that everybody else wants to be, and he's got the best song in the movie. If you've ever seen this movie you probably don't remember anything else.

When it comes to Disney movies, there are plenty of instances where I’m sure we all look at the TV screen, look at our partner next, and sigh, wondering how our lives could never be as romantic as the couples in Disney movies. Alright, well, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but you get what I mean – and today, we’ll be going over some of the best romantic scenes in Disney movies that give me hope in true love. 

Ariel And Eric During “Kiss The Girl” (The Little Mermaid)

One of my favorite Disney scenes comes from The Little Mermaid. Not only does the “Kiss the Girl” scene provide one of the best Disney songs ever, but it’s also a significant turning point in Eric and Ariel’s relationship.

Hercules Literally Risking His Life To Save Meg (Hercules)

Hercules is such an underrated Disney classic, and while it has gotten plenty of praise in the last few years, including talk of a live-action remake, I will never forgive it for not being nearly as big as it should have been. Hercules and Meg were the definition of the ‘it’ couple, and I’m pretty sure not every man would dive into a river of death, risk losing their lives, and so much more to save their significant other—the definition of love. 

Lady And Tramp Sharing A Dinner (Lady And The Tramp)

It’s funny when I watch The Lady and the Tramp now as an adult because I can’t help but think that these dogs are getting celebrity treatment, getting fresh spaghetti and meatballs from a chef. But of course, I have to put down the two main characters swapping meatballs and spaghetti. 

Carl And Ellie’s Montage (Up)

I’m not crying; you are. 

Rewatching Up as an adult is always a hard-hitter, but you want to know what still hits just as hard? Watching Carl and Ellie’s montage of their love story. Heck, I recall seeing this film in the theater with my dad and remembering it as the first time I ever saw him cry. It’s profound love, people. 

Simba And Nala Reuniting (The Lion King)

There is literally nothing better than a friends-to-lovers romance, and I stand by that because now, we have a cemented foundation on which to start a new relationship. And nothing tells a better story than Nala and Simba when they reunite after years apart in The Lion King. Look at these two – they are so in love, and it’s so adorable. 

Eugene And Rapunzel In The Boat (Tangled)

Tangled is a better movie than Frozen, and one of the reasons is that the central relationship between Eugene and Rapunzel legit gives me butterflies even now. I could point out so many scenes between them, but for the sake of space, I’ll say the lantern scene. Eugene is renting out a boat for them on a lake to watch the lanterns in the sky – peak romance moves right there, my man. 

Kiara And Kovu’s Little Love Boat Ride (The Lion King 2)

A lot of people don’t really know that much about The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, considering that it was never released in theaters, but I have a soft spot for it. In the central love story, Kiara (Simba’s daughter) and Kovu (the son of a leader of outcast lions) are great enemies to lovers. One of their best moments is when they are on a love-boat ride, thanks to Rafiki, during the song “Upendi.” I still dance to it now. 

Eve Trying Her Best To Save Wall-E (WALL-E)

WALL-E is undoubtedly one of the best Pixar movies by far, and while it paints a dystopian view of the world (that almost feels like it’s slowly coming true), at its core is a love story between two robots. The final scene, where Wall-E has basically been destroyed and Eve is trying her absolute hardest to save him – brings tears to my eyes every time. 

Kristoff Getting Anna Home When The Coldness Spreads (Frozen)

Frozen is a great movie about sisterly love, but in terms of romance, Kristoff and Anna are pretty great, too. A great scene to point out is when Kristoff rides Sven home back to Arendelle for even a chance that Anna could live after the coldness in her spreads. He started off not even wanting to travel with her to save her. Adorable. 

Pongo And Perdita Literally Bringing Their Owners Together (101 Dalmatians)

I always say that there is no purer love than a dog’s love, and I think Pongo and Perdita perfectly exemplify that. But you want to know what’s better than them? The fact that these two were so enamored with each other that they literally brought their owners together, too. Talk about fate.

I’m, like, 99% sure that “A Whole New World” has become one of the most iconic romance songs of all time, so of course, I have to include the scene from Aladdin that features him taking Jasmine out on a magic carpet ride. Haven’t we all wished for a prince to sweep us off our feet literally?

While Cinderella to me isn’t one of the best Disney films ever, there’s no denying its impact and the fact that the Prince did make a very romantic gesture. He’s so enamored with Cinderella, not knowing her name, that he uses a shoe going from town to town in order to find her. 

The Beast Gifting Belle A Library (Beauty And The Beast)

As someone who is counting down every upcoming book-to-screen adaptation that is coming out, do you know the things I would do to be gifted a library like Belle? The Beast in Beauty and the Beast just casually had this whole library in his castle and decided to give it to Belle when feelings began to arrive. I wish. That’s so sweet. 

Prince Phillip Fighting A LITERAL Dragon For Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

I mean, you really can’t get a better protector than Prince Phillip, who literally went to defeat a dragon for Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. It’s not like he had a giant crossbow or anything like that – he went in with just a sword, and my god, I can’t help but admire that and also love that kind of energy for Aurora. 

Elizabeth And Nicholas Marry Again (The Parent Trap)

I always love second-chance romances in any of the best rom-com out there, and The Parent Trap is an excellent example of that. While we do see Elizabeth and Nicholas kiss at the very end of the film, it’s the pictures we see of their second wedding that make me swoon and awe and practically cry.

Eric Giving Ariel The Reigns (The Little Mermaid)

You know, upon watching The Little Mermaid as an adult, I’ve slowly come to realize that Eric and Ariel were actually a decent couple, considering it felt like everyone fell in love so quickly with older Disney movies. Eric, who barely even knows Ariel, takes her out on a journey into town for fun and lets her control the carriage of a horse because she showed interest. Was it necessarily wise? No, but it was still fun. 

Giselle And Robert Finally Kiss (Enchanted)

Rewatching Enchanted is always fun when you’re older, especially when you realize that the songs are incredible and I could jam to them every time. But after seeing Giselle and Robert dance around each other for an entire movie, their kiss at the very end is so fulfilling, and I always feel myself take a deep sigh of relief whenever it happens. 

Eugene Telling Rapunzel That She Was His New Dream (Tangled)

God, that's the gut punch that this scene always gives me. In Tangled, when Mother Goethel stabs Flynn, Eugene cuts off Rapunzel’s hair in order for Goethal to die, rendering her unable to heal him. As he dies, he says to Rapunzel that she has become his new dream, referencing a song earlier in the movie. Thankfully, she’s able to bring him back, but this moment is so beautifully sad. 

When Belle Danced With The Beast For The First Time (Beauty And The Beast)

I’m pretty sure Beauty and the Beast has some of the most iconic romantic scenes ever, and one of them is undoubtedly Belle and the Beast dancing for the first time. It’s slow at first; both are not used to the feelings that are there, but they eventually relax and have fun, and – ugh, I’m swooning thinking about it. 

Troy Decides To Do Both Theater And Basketball To Be Closer To Gabriella (High School Musical 3: Senior Year)

Okay, let’s not address the fact that Troy’s most significant issue in life was whether he wanted to play basketball or theater and that his friends were criticizing him for it – because my man did not deserve that pain. But what we can talk about is how Troy decides to follow his heart and go to a school closer to home so he can be closer to Gabriella at Stanford. I love it. 

Tiana Teaches Naveen How To Mince (The Princess And The Frog)

Tiana is an underrated Disney princess and a great role model. One of my favorite parts about her is that she can cook like no one is watching. When she and Prince Naveen are frogs and need food, she decides to teach Prince Naveen himself how to mince mushrooms. I don’t know what it is about this scene, but it makes me smile every time I see the look in his eyes when he’s impressed with her knife skills. 

Pocahontas Saving John Smith (Pocahontas)

Forget the historical inaccuracies of this film. Instead, let’s talk about how Pocahontas and John Smith were a decently good couple (in the movie) and that she threw herself against her people to save him. Only the fictional versions of these characters make me believe in love again – not the actual figures they are based on. But it’s still a good scene. 

Wade And Ember Finally Embrace (Elemental)

I don’t think you can really get better than fire and water finding a way to co-exist. It is a significant plot point in Elemental that both Wade and Ember wouldn’t be able to touch each other if romance ever entered the picture, but at the very end of the film, they embrace it. It’s a moving scene, and it is one I still love to watch. 

Kristoff Dressing Up For Anna (Frozen 2)

Kristoff is a very manly man – meaning his dressing up in a fancy suit with slicked-back hair isn’t really his style. However, he does do this for Anna’s coronation in Frozen 2, and it’s a charming gesture – although she does say she prefers him in leather after. 

Will And Elizabeth Marry In The Middle Of A Battle (Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest)

Literally, how can you get more romantic than getting married in the middle of a battle? The Pirates of the Caribbean movies drop off with Will and Elizabeth’s romance in later films, but man, these first few were top-tier – and then tying the knot while fighting for their lives with that Hans Zimmer score in the background? Chills, every time. 

The Beast Lets Belle Go (Beauty And The Beast)

To lose something is to have loved something, and that phrase is thoroughly used in Beauty and the Beast. Despite falling for Belle, the Beast lets her go after their dance because she sees that her father is in trouble. He cares about her happiness more than anything else, and…that is true love right there. 

Jane Decides To Stay In The Jungle With Tarzan (Tarzan)

You know, I always wonder how Jane adapted to Tarzan because the fact that she stays behind to be with him is the most significant act of love on this list. Think about it – she left behind her entire world to stay with this man. I’d love to know how their interactions went once the movie was done.

Everyone dreams of having someone stare at them the way that Aladdin does the first time he spots Jasmine in Aladdin. That look of utter infatuation and love at first sight – it gets me every time. He’s so down bad it’s not even funny. 

Opposites Truly Attract Between Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun And Felix (Wreck-It-Ralph)

Wreck-It Ralph is a great 2010s Disney movie with many great themes and relationships. One I never expected was between Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun and Felix, two people from two very different games who somehow find their way to each other through this crazy journey. Opposites truly do attract. 

Ariel Singing To Eric (The Little Mermaid)

I think everyone would love to wake up to a mermaid singing to them, but the way that Ariel does it is so ethereal – and it makes total sense why Eric would fall in love with that voice. I mean, come on – saving someone and then singing to them? Pure love, right there. 

Hercules Being The Absolute Cutest With Meg In The Garden (Hercules)

Hercules and Meg are one of my absolute favorite couples in all of Disney, and I can’t get over their date and walking in the garden afterward. I don’t know what it is – maybe it’s the fact that this super strong man who is so nerdy and silly in front of Meg, this headstrong girl, melts her defenses, and it makes me swoon. Either way, it’s adorable. 

Ben Getting A Sign From His Wife (Haunted Mansion)

2023’s Haunted Mansion had no right to be as emotional as it was, and it was made even more emotional when Ben, at the very end, received a sign from his wife from the beyond. His wife, who loved tater tots – and now Ben himself found a cat named Tater Tot. Shut up. Shut up. I am getting tears in my eyes just writing about it. 

This is making me excited for all the upcoming Disney movies and any romantic scenes that will make me swoon. I’m here for the tears, the laughs, and so much more. 

Wreck-It Ralph was a popular enough franchise that it became one of the few Disney animated features to have received a theatrical sequel. And yet after two movies have been released, we have yet to see a major attraction in a Disney Park. There were rumors for a long time that some sort of Wreck-It Ralph attraction would come to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, replacing the now-closed Stitch’s Great Escape. That has never come to fruition, but now a Ralph-based ride is finally coming to a Disney Park, replacing Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blaster at Tokyo Disneyland.

A Wreck-It Ralph Ride Is Coming To Tokyo Disneyland

Today The Oriental Land Company, which owns and manages Tokyo Disney Resort, revealed that a new attraction inspired by the Sugar Rush racing game in the original Wreck-It Ralph is set to replace Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, with the new, as yet unnamed, attraction set to open in 2026. 

The attraction will see guests enter the world of Sugar Rush, which is being attacked by Sugar Bugs. The ride is being called an “interactive gameplay experience” and the concept art, as seen above, still shows guests using blasters as they do now with the Buzz Lightyear ride. So the core attraction experience appears to be untouched, this will simply transform the ride from one franchise to another. Astro Blasters is set to close at Tokyo Disneyland in October to begin the transformation.

A Wreck-It Ralph Attraction Was Rumored For Magic Kingdom 

While it had been some time since we’d heard anything from the old Disney World rumor, the suggestion was that Stitch’s Great Escape, arguably the worst attraction at Disney World, would be replaced by some sort of VR-based Wreck-It Ralph attraction. Whether that idea was ever actually considered, it never happened.

We certainly won’t see this Wreck-It Ralph attraction take up the Stitch’s Great Escape space, as that location is very near to the Magic Kingdom version of the Buzz Lightyear attraction. The Stitch’s Great Escape space remains without an attraction, most recently it was used as a pop-up store for Tron merch when Lightcycle Run opened last year. 

A version of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters previously existed at every single Disney Resort. While it goes by a variety of names, the core experience, using a plastic blaster to hit targets and score points on various alien creatures, has been the same. This is now the second Buzz Lightyear attraction to be replaced. In 2019, the Hong Kong Disneyland version of the ride was replaced by Ant-Man & The Wasp: Nano Battle, which also kept the core attraction experience intact while changing the franchise.

With two of the rides now gone, it will be interesting to see what happens to the remaining four. It’s not simply a question of Toy Story’s popularity in Asia, Tokyo Disney Resort opened an entire Toy Story Hotel in 2022, so clearly the franchise is successful there.

We could be in the middle of simply replacing and updating the attraction platform. The oldest version of the ride, Magic Kingdom’s Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, opened in 1995 and since then we’ve seen the shooting game attraction evolve significantly. Several Disney Paks Resorts have versions of Toy Story Midway Mania or Web-Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, which are functionally the same experience, but with more advanced technology.

We could see this same, Wreck-It Ralph attraction replace Magic Kingdom's Buzz experience. Or we could also see a different Ralph ride still take over the old Stitch space as previously rumored. If nothing else this proves that it isn't too late for a new Wreck-It Ralph attraction, so perhaps something at Disney World is still possible.

You know it’s coming. It’s just a matter of time, but I have full faith that there will eventually be a live-action Wreck-It Ralph movie.  

Has there been any confirmation of this, or even any rumblings? No. But, with Disney slowly but surely getting through most of their popular animated movies from the Disney Renaissance, like the recent The Little Mermaid, which we reviewed favorably, I just have a pretty good feeling that Ralph will one day get the live-action treatment, too. 

I mean, hell, Disney is ALREADY setting up a live-action Moana movie, and the original Moana came out after Ralph. So, I’ve decided to get started dream casting the live-action Wreck-It Ralph movie. Sure, we’ll likely get that live-action Rapunzel movie before this, but I still believe that the latter is on its way, and I want to cast it. I’m gonna wreck it!      

Wreck-It Ralph - Chris Pratt   

I know. You're likely saying, "You're joking, right?" Yes, I've seen the memes. One of the funnier ones was of Chris Pratt playing Rosa Parks. A lot of those stemmed from the fact that when it was announced that he was going to be voicing Mario, it seemed like a joke. Well, after The Super Mario Bros. Movie raked in over a billion dollars (and counting), I think it's safe to say that he could play whomever the hell he wants, and it would probably still be pretty good.      

That said, I think Pratt would be better than "pretty good" as the titular character. I actually think he'd be pretty great. Voiced by John C. Reilly, it's actually kind of hard for me to envision any other voice coming out of Ralph's mouth, but The Super Mario Bros. Movie (which I loved) proved to me that he could make any voice his own.  

Plus, I think he has the talent to pull off all of the physical stuff required of the character as well. Of course he would have to be heavily CGI'd, but hey, it worked for Will Smith as the Genie in Aladdin, didn't it? So, it could work for Pratt as Wreck-It Ralph, too! 

Vanellope Von Schweetz - Vivien Lyra Blair 

You know, when I originally pictured casting Vanellope Von Schweetz, I envisioned McKenna Grace. I was mainly thinking of her quirky performance in Ghostbusters: Aftermath, and how that could transfer over to a live-action role for Vanellope. 

But, thankfully, my editors thought that there could be a possibly better choice for Princess Vanellope, and I'm glad they intervened since I now think I have the PERFECT choice, and that’s Vivien Lyra Blair. 

You probably know her as the young Leia Organa in the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, but I know her from We Can Be Heroes, which I once called "the perfect follow-up to Sharkboy and Lava Girl." Blair played the progeny of Sharkboy and Lava Girl, Guppy.   

In the movie, she exhibited a really playful performance. While Vanellope had a constantly sarcastic tone because she was voiced by Sarah Silverman, I think that a live-action version could be softened a little in the joke department, while still maintaining that fun edge, which I think Blair can really deliver in spades.  

King Candy - Danny DeVito  

Okay, now this one would be a HUGE departure from the movie, since King Candy was played by Alan Tudyk, who gave the character a pretty silly voice, but I think it could still work if Danny DeVito took on the role. Spoiler alert for a pretty old movie, but Candy turned out to be the antagonist. That said, this wasn't really somebody who would typically be taken seriously throughout the rest of the film.

That’s why I think DeVito would be perfect for the role. Firstly, I pretty much want him to be in every movie, and secondly, I think he is a master at playing silly characters who also might have a dark side. Keep in mind, this is the same actor who’s on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but also portrayed The Penguin in Batman Returns. So, that’s why I think DeVito would be ideal for the sometimes silly, but also terrifying, King Candy. Just sit with it for a little bit. It’ll come to you.  

Fix-It Felix Jr. - Ben Schwartz  

Yes, I know. Fix-It Felix Jr. IS Jack McBrayer, right down to the funny demeanor and everything. (He even looks like the actor!) But, I wouldn’t just want to cast him as a live-action Fix-It Felix Jr. Nope. In fact, I think Ben Schwartz, the voice of the live-action Sonic himself (who may just be on the verge of starting “the villainous stage” of his career) would be the perfect Felix.    

I think a lot of this really boils down to just how innocent and almost childlike he makes Sonic sound, as I see a lot of that in Felix, too. Here's a guy who wants to do the right thing, and, by all accounts is doing the right thing, but he’s also not worldly enough to realize that things aren’t just in black and white, as there is nuance to pretty much every situation. I think that side of Sonic could really add even more layers to the character, and I feel Schwartz could knock that role right out of the park.  

Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun - Ronda Rousey 

While I know I just said that Felix Jr. IS Jack McBrayer, only to spend two whole paragraphs discussing why somebody else should play his character, I honestly can’t think of any other voice-actor in Wreck-It Ralph who is closest to the look and demeanor of their character than Sgt. Calhoun’s voice actress, Jane Lynch. In fact, I was seriously considering just putting her in the role for the live-action film, but then I thought, no. That would be a cop out, and I've already committed to this list. 

So, if not Lynch, then I think Ronda Rousey could be a good substitute. She doesn’t need to prove how tough she is, as the former UFC fighter and current WWE wrestler is already known as a certified badass. But, she hasn’t acted in many movies, making appearances in The Expendables 3, and in Furious 7. That said, in both roles she commanded the screen, and I honestly think that if anybody could play the lead character in Hero’s Duty, it’s Rousey.

Ah, Disney movies. The topic that keeps on giving. I’ve already talked about the Disney Renaissance movies from 1989-1999, as well as all of the Walt Disney Animation Studio movies from 2000-2010. Now, I’m going to cover the most recent Disney Animation Studio movies from 2011-2020. Consider this my personal trilogy of articles on the subject. But, also consider that Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon will not be on this list, since both of those films came out in 2021. 

No matter, since the movies from 2011-2020 are so spectacular that some might even consider it a second renaissance. This was a period where a song like “Let it Go” was actually heard on the radio. The time was a period of new movies, as well as sequels, and it also represents an era where I feel that the company was more cognizant of the messages that it was sending to its younger audiences, which is why I’d much rather my daughter watch recent Disney movies like Moana than classics like The Little Mermaid. But, enough talk, and on with the ranking. Here are all the Disney Animation movies from 2011-2020, ranked.    

Oh, and a few spoilers up ahead. 

7. Big Hero 6 (2014)

Big Hero 6 is set in an alternate, tech-powered universe called San Fransokyo, where a young kid adept at robotics must band with his brother’s healthcare robot and his friends, who become high-tech superheroes, to stop a masked villain. It’s loosely based off of a Marvel comic, and even has a shocking Marvel cameo at the end. It’s so much fun!   

So, then why, pray tell, is at the bottom of this list? Well, I think that’s just a testament to how great the movies were in this period, since Big Hero 6 is an excellent film. In fact, I think the movie is super underappreciated, and I wish more people talked about it. The superhero stuff is amazing, and the story hits all of the right emotional beats. 

But, when we have some of the other movies on this list, well, I just didn’t have the heart to put it above any of those other films. Sucks, but that’s just how lists like this work. Something has got to be on the bottom. 

6. Wreck-It Ralph (2012) 

A “bad guy” video game character is tired of his label, so he wants to do something about it and become a “good guy.” But, in the process, he accidentally sets things in motion that could destroy all of the games in his arcade. Adventure (and heart-warming antics!) ensue. 

Wreck-It Ralph was the first movie in the 2011-2020 era, and it was something totally unique coming after Tangled (which is better than Frozen). But, I digress.   

It’s great to see all of the video game references in Wreck-It Ralph, and I love the third act with the race, but the rest of the film kind of meanders a little bit for me. Yes, all of it is fun, but I feel that some of it isn’t entirely necessary. So, while I do love it, and I’m super happy that it brought Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz to the Disney universe, I feel like the second act could be a little stronger. The rest totally gives me a sugar rush, though.  

5. Frozen (2013) 

A princess must help end the perpetual winter that her sister accidentally created in order to unfreeze their kingdom. There’s also a loveable snowman, a moose, and a mountaineer who loves ice. But, why am I explaining the plot of Frozen to you? You’ve already seen it. And, if you’re a parent, possibly multiple times. 

Look, I dig Frozen. It’s a good movie, and nothing I’m about to say will take away from its cultural impact or significance, but…Frozen is kind of overrated. I like the story, as well as the message that sisterly love is more powerful than any love from a male suitor, but “Let It Be,” while a showstopper, kind of breaks up the flow of the film, and the other songs aren’t nearly as good. Plus, the story kind of hits a standstill when the trolls come out. 

Honestly, I’m putting it at this number since I understand just how much people love this film, and I know the shot in the arm it gave Disney that led it on to a successful string of years to come after its monumental success, but the first Frozen is just okay for me. It is what it is.  

4. Ralph Breaks The Internet (2018) 

After Ralph and Vanellope accidentally break Vanellope’s game, they have to go on the internet to get enough money to purchase a new part. Along the way, Vanellope learns that maybe she belongs elsewhere, and Ralph has to deal with that.  

Okay, so I KNOW most people prefer the first Wreck-It Ralph to the second (even though the sequel has a slightly higher critical score, but a MUCH lower audience score), however, I just think the second movie is better in every way. The first film felt a little disjointed. I mean, you had these older arcade games like Street Fighter II, and Q-Bert, but the world of Sugar Rush felt super modern. I know that’s part of the story – the old vs. the new – but the modernism of the sequel feels much more consistent and enjoyable.    

I also love the emotions that we get more in the sequel, giving Vanellope more to do and consider, and how Ralph feels left out in the cold. Finally, having all of the Disney princesses was the icing on the cake for Wreck-It Ralph 2. So, while I greatly enjoy the first movie, I LOVE the second one. It’s just a better film, overall. I think so, at least.   

3. Frozen II (2019) 

Elsa hears a voice from off yonder, and follows it, only to find out that the voice is coming from within. Whoa, trippy.  

Okay, so I’m well aware that this choice might be even more controversial than putting Wreck-It Ralph 2 over the first one, but hear me out. Frozen II is the better movie since it has much more depth. We learn that the ancestors of Arendelle actually had a really dark past, and the overall tone of this sequel is just darker, overall. Olaf dies (DIES! - but he’s brought back, of course), Anna is struggling to hold on to the newly formed relationship with her sister, and poor Kristoff keeps trying to marry Anna, only to be thwarted at every occasion.  

I also like the music a lot more in this one, as it feels more organic to the overall story. The setting is also more interesting. In every way, I think Frozen II is the better movie, and you’ll never convince me otherwise. It’s simply the superior film.  

2. Moana (2016) 

A teenager who has a calling for the sea, sets out on an adventure with a demigod (and a chicken) to bring the heart of the ocean back to its rightful place. 

Moana freaking has it all. The songs are magnificent, the story moves at such a brisk pace, that it’s almost a little too fast, Moana is a phenomenal protagonist, and it has The Rock giving the people’s eyebrow. I mean, Moana would far and away be my pick for the best movie in this time period if not for one other...  

1. Zootopia

A city where the predators and the prey live together in harmony have that harmony disrupted when certain citizens start turning savage. We soon learn that the peace the citizens thought they knew may have never even existed in the first place. 

I’ve actually already discussed why I think Zootopia is the best recent Disney animated movie, but, in a nutshell, Zootopia is the best since it genuinely feels like it has something important to say on many different topics, such as race, identity, bigotry, and class. Zootopia is not just fun (even though it is that), nor is it just a beautiful movie to look at (it’s that, too). Zootopia is both those things, and so much more, making it the best movie of this era. Seriously, I LOVE this film!

Disney doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon with their animation division, and I’m looking forward to its future. For more news on everything from the company, make sure to swing by here often.  

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers arrived on Disney+ in May 2022 and became an instant hit with those who grew up watching the show on which the hilarious animation/live-action hybrid was based, as well as young audiences (even if they didn’t pick up on all the jokes). I know this because this was the case in my household: my wife and I loved all the jokes, pop culture references, and abundance of amazing Easter Eggs, and my kids loved the visuals, story, and of course, Ugly Sonic (who was admittedly loved by everyone in my family).

And, after the credits rolled, I immediately started to think about movies like Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers that I would like to watch again or introduce to my kids. So, I started to put together a list of titles and began figuring out how I could watch them, and ended up coming up with a fairly remarkable list of movies that feature certain elements of the new Disney+ movie that I enjoyed so much. Here are a few of those now…

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (Disney+)

Private eye Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), who’s no fan of cartoons or their zany characters, reluctantly takes on a job to trail Jessica Rabbit (Kathleen Turner), who is rumored to be sleeping around on her husband, Roger Rabbit (Charles Fleischer). But when Jessica’s alleged lover winds up murdered, the grumpy detective is stuck trying to protect the cartoon star from being brought up on false charges.

Robert Zemeckis’ 1988 groundbreaking live-action/animation hybrid movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was the first movie that came to mind when I heard about Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, and it’s not because the titular character is in the new movie’s trailer. It more has to do with the presence of all those third-party cartoon characters featured throughout the movie, as well as its incredible sense of humor.

The Lego Movie (Amazon Rental)

Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) is just a normal, everyday Lego figure who is the opposite of what you would call special. But that all changes when the nondescript construction worker becomes attached to the Piece of Resistance, a powerful Lego brick that could save the world from Lord Business (Will Ferrell) and his destructive “Kragile” super weapon.

Written and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, The Lego Movie was one of the biggest surprises of the 2014 box office, but after watching the animated film it’s easy to see why it resonated with audiences of all ages. It has that same blend of self-referential humor and dazzling animation as Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and also features an incredibly catchy song (“Everything is Awesome) written by The Lonely Island, whose members include Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone.

Wreck-It Ralph (Disney+)

After years of always being the bad guy in the Fix-It Felix video game, Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly) goes on a one-villain mission to become the hero of his own story and change the digital world’s perception of what it means to be a good guy. But, in doing so, he opens the door for an even bigger and badder nemesis to take over.

Wreck-It Ralph has a lot of similarities with Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, including an abundance of characters from multiple franchises (video games instead of cartoons, in this case), a fun and upbeat story adults and kids will both enjoy, and an incredible message about second chances and rising to the occasion.

Last Action Hero (Netflix)

There is no bigger fan of hero cop Jack Slater (Arnold Schwarzenegger) than Danny Madigan (Austin O’Brien), a young boy who obsessively watches all his new movies. After being presented with a magical ticket, Danny finds himself in the middle of the action in Jack Slater IV, right next to his longtime hero. However, just as Danny entered the fictional world, its characters, including the villainous Benedict (Charles Dance) can enter his world as well.

Is Last Action Hero a great movie? That depends on your taste. Is it a fun movie? You bet! John McTiernan’s hilarious and action-packed 1993 meta comedy about big-budget blockbusters is fully aware of itself, which only adds to its charm. Like the story told in Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, it’s heavy-handed, outrageously silly, and never takes itself too seriously.

Space Jam (1996)

A greedy alien theme park owner makes a plan to kidnap Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang to use as his new attraction, but will back off if the iconic cartoon characters can defeat his all-star team known as The Monstars (who have the stolen talent of the NBA’s brightest stars). Just when it looks like all hope is lost, though, Bugs comes up with a plan that involves getting Michael Jordan to come out of retirement.

Although not the best movie to feature live-action and animated characters together, Joe Pytka’s 1996 smash hit, Space Jam, is still a lot of fun, and not just for kids of the ‘90s. It’s not as wild or expansive as Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, but is loaded with pop culture references and heart, unlike its 2021 sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Sonic The Hedgehog (Paramount+)

Years after being magically transported to Earth from a distant planet, Sonic the Hedgehog (Ben Schwartz) finds himself on the run from the diabolical mad scientist Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who wants to use his power to take over the world.

If you are like me and can’t get enough of “Ugly Sonic” in Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, why not give Sonic the Hedgehog a spin (no pun intended). The version in the new Disney+ movie is a spoof of the original model revealed in the Sonic trailer back in 2019. You know, the one that was met by fan backlash and resulted in the movie being delayed.

Shrek (Prime Video)

In an attempt to get rid of all the fairy tale characters that have been forced to live in his swamp, Shrek (Mike Myers) strikes a deal with Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) to find and rescue the villain’s bride-to-be, Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz). Accompanied by a tenacious (and annoying) donkey (Eddie Murphy), this ogre becomes the most unlikely of heroes.

Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson’s fairy-tale inspired 2001 animated comedy broke new ground upon release and proved to be a hit with audiences of all ages. The humor, which pokes fun at everything from classic folk tales to modern film franchises helped usher in a new era of meta humor in animated movies.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu (Amazon Rental)

After his police detective father goes missing, Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) teams up with his dad’s old partner, Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) to get to the bottom of his disappearance in the chaotic Ryme City, a place where humans and Pokémon live in harmony.

Like Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Rob Letterman’s Pokémon Detective Pikachu has an incredibly heartfelt story tucked behind all the pop culture references, comedic banter, and dazzling visuals. The 2019 action-comedy also happens to be one of the best video game movies in recent memory.

The Mask (Amazon Rental)

Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) is a down-on-his-luck bank clerk with not much going on in his life, but his fortunes are changed when he comes into possession of a mysterious mask that turns him into a living, breathing cartoon character.

Chuck Russell’s The Mask, which was released in the middle of Carrey’s ridiculously successful 1994 box office run (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber also came out that year) perfectly blends the chaos of old cartoons and crime serials with live-action drama, creating a unique cinematic experience that is fun from top to bottom. And, it still remains one of Carrey’s best movies.

Chip ’N Dale: Rescue Rangers (The Original Series) (Disney+)

And then there is the original Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers animated series that followed the titular chipmunks as they start their very own detective agency alongside their friends Gadget Hackwrench, Monterey Jack, and Zipper. Over the course of three seasons, the fearless group went up against iconic villains like Fat Cat, Professor Norton Nimnul, and Rat Capone.

If you were interested in all the references for the show throughout the new Disney+ movie, then you should jump on in and give Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers a shot.

A Knight’s Tale (2001)

The Frozen Movies (2014-2019)

The adventures of a red-headed princess (Kristen Bell) and her older sister (Idina Menzel) who is gifted with a mysterious ability to alter the weather to cold temperatures and freeze things at will.

Why it is one of the best Alan Tudyk movies: Alan Tudyk also leant his voice to multiple characters for Disney’s most successful animated franchise, most notably as the Duke of Weselton in both Frozen and in the sequel, Frozen II.

Doom Patrol (2019)

A group of people, each made superhuman by traumatic circumstances, are given a home by a mad scientist (Timothy Dalton) and a chance to save the world from a man of nigh-omnipotence and malicious intent.

Why it is one of the best Alan Tudyk movies: Alan Tudyk has starred in countless comic book adaptations, including Marvel movies (namely Big Hero 6) and various DC TV shows - such as the refreshingly unique Doom Patrol, in which he chews the scenery as the reality-warping main antagonist of Season 1, Eric “Mr. Nobody” Morden.

Resident Alien (2021-Present)

An extra-terrestrial (Alan Tudyk) begins to question the malicious nature of his initial reason for coming to Earth (to destroy it) after disguising himself as a human doctor and establishing trust with the citizens of a small Colorado town he became stranded in.

Why it is one of the best Alan Tudyk TV shows: A more recent example of Alan Tudyk’s talent for also playing a good villain (of sorts) can currently be seen on the Syfy original series, Resident Alien - developer Chris Sheridan’s considerably lighter and much funnier take on Peter Hogan’s Dark Horse comic book series

These cult favorites and new classics alike just barely scratch the surface of what makes Alan Tudyk an undeniable “Geek God” to so many of his fans.

People love video games, and people also love movies. So it's really no shock that when Hollywood goes looking for popular IP to turn into films, it looks at video games frequently, despite the fact that the vast majority of movies based on games are unpopular or unsuccessful, or both. However, there is a subset of the video game movie that has proven to be, generally speaking, more popular and more successful than Tomb Raider or Assassin's Creed. Those are the movies that aren't based on existing game properties, but instead take place inside games in largely original worlds. Ryan Reynolds' Free Guy is the most recent success story here.

There have been some great movies set inside the world of games. In some, video game characters come to life. In others, real people enter the world of video games and must learn to follow those rules. I'd argue nothing on this list is actually a bad movie, but only one of them can be the best.

8. eXistenZ

Ok so, eXistenZ is... weird. It's a David Cronenberg movie, and that's really all you need to know to know just how weird it is. Because it's a weird Cronenberg movie, it's not the sort of thing that everybody is going to love. However, if you love weird-ass movies and you missed this one, it's worth checking out. It has Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law, and that right there is a pairing you don't want to miss. It's a movie where video games are played on biotechnology game pods that look like lumps of melted flesh. Then you jack into them like The Matrix, even though that looks like the last thing in the world a sane person would want to do.

7. Ready Player One

Ready Player One was an incredibly popular book that went hard on the 1980s nostalgia. It created an online video game that basically consumed the entire internet and turned the whole thing into a pop culture reference machine. When Steven Spielberg took on the movie, he was able to reshape the reference-fest into a surprisingly strong movie. It follows a collection of gamers as they scour the four corners of their massive online game for the clues that will solve a puzzle and give them total control of the game. The movie is the superior version of the story, and the references are great if you're into them.

6. Jumanji: The Next Level

The third Jumanji movie is the second one to use a video game structure in its plot. While it's maybe not as good as its predecessor, Jumanji: The Next Level is still a fun movie. It adds some brand new characters, which allows the video game avatar versions of those characters to do more and stretch their acting chops a bit. It also still has all the fun video game action that we've now come to expect from this franchise.

5. Tron

There was an era when setting a movie inside of a video game was essentially impossible. Once upon a time, games either didn't exist or were so simple that you couldn't build characters there. Arguably, this was still the case in 1982, and yet Tron was born and it worked. The grandfather of all the movies on this list, Tron see Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) transported inside a computer, where he travels among the programs, like Brice Boxleitner's Tron, in an effort to take down the Master Control Program. Tron wasn't a massive hit in its day, but it was a technical achievement that paved the way for computer-based effects, which nearly every movie relies on today.

4. Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle

While the first Jumanji movie brought a board game to life, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle upgraded the premise for the digital age. It brought four characters inside a video game world with a quest to complete. Each avatar had special abilities and weaknesses that needed to be managed. All the mechanics of video games play into the story, allowing the movie to go big with the action in every conceivable way. And with a "rock" solid cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black, Welcome to the Jungle is just too much fun.

3. Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy was the sequel that we never thought we'd see. While the original film became a cult hit, those don't often get expensive sequels. While Legacy might not have pushed movie special effects into an entirely new world the way the original film did, it was among the early examples of digital de-aging technology (which, I'll admit, has aged poorly, but was still impressive in its day). And Tron: Legacy is honestly better than its predecessor in every other way. The action scenes are stronger, the characters feel more, well, alive, and the soundtrack is one of the all-time greats. Now if we could only get that third movie.

2. Wreck-It Ralph

There may be many movies that take place inside actual video games, but Wreck-It Ralph is one of the few that doesn't try and send a normal human inside the game somehow in order to give the audience a reason to care. Wreck-It Ralph is entirely about the characters that live inside the game, but there's no way we're not going to end up caring about them. The movie follows the titular Ralph, the pre-programmed bad guy of a classic '80s style game who is tired of playing the villain and goes looking for a way to be the hero. While the movie has plenty of the required classic game references, it's in the original characters and the original worlds that the movie truly shines.

1. Free Guy

The newest movie to be set largely inside a video game is, almost certainly, the best. Free Guy follows Guy, played by Ryan Reynolds, who is an NPC inside a video game who begins to grow and evolve on his own. It's funny and it's emotional. It has great video game-based jokes and references, but there's no requirement that you understand any of it as the story works regardless. It's not just a great video game movie, it's a great movie, period. Some of the movies on this list are funny, some have heart and some build strong video game worlds, but Free Guy does all of the above, and also includes a hilarious Chris Evans cameo.

A couple of the movies on this list have already spawned sequels, and the word is Free Guy might get one too, so we certainly haven't seen the end of movies set inside video games. In the end, every movie on this list is better than the majority of movies based on actual game titles. Someday the code will be cracked on movies based on actual game properties, but until then, we'll have these movies that show us the best parts of games and the best parts of movies together.

Mindy Kaling can do just about anything: acting, writing, producing, directing, and much more. She carved out her place in Hollywood when she appeared on The Office as Kelly Kapur. Kelly’s obsession with pop culture, her witty lines, and entertaining romance with Ryan (B.J Novak) helped make her one of the most memorable characters on the series. Now Kaling is once again bringing funny, relevant, and unforgettable characters to life with her new series Never Have I Ever.

The series is a fresh coming-of-age romantic comedy series that showcases Mindy Kaling’s brilliant comedic voice. If you’re a fan of The Mindy Project star, then this is a series you need to watch for smart writing and likable characters. Also if you’re a Mindy Kaling fan, Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ have plenty of options to start your Kaling binge-fest.

Never Have I Ever (Netflix)

Mindy Kaling acts as creator and writer on Never Have I Ever, a Netflix original series. It follows Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she deals with a tragic loss, and typical teen angst, like parents, crushes, and having John McEnroe as a personal narrator. The series debuted in April 2020.

Never Have I Ever is a modern teen comedy with a very enjoyable and quirky main cast. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan gives Devi depth, sincerity, and humor as she and her friends tackle most of the things that modern teens struggle with, like coming to terms with sexuality, grief, how to make a great TikTok, and dealing with a nemesis that will likely become a love interest later down the line.

The Mindy Project (Hulu)

Mindy Kaling created and stars in The Mindy Project. She plays Mindy Lahiri, an OB/GYN who works at a private practice and deals with various romantic entanglements. The comedy aired for six seasons, first as a Fox series and then exclusively on Hulu.

The Mindy Project premiered in 2012, and it was her first TV leading project after appearing on The Office. The cast included Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, Ike Barinholtz, and Xosha Roquemore. The Mindy Project was a great launching pad for Kaling, who had already won viewers over from her role on The Office, but this series allowed her to add her own comedic style and tone.

Inside Out (Disney+)

Inside Out is a 2015 Pixar movie directed by Peter Docter. It follows the inner-workings of young Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) as she deals with the emotions of a major move. Joy (Amy Poehler) acts as the ringleader inside Riley’s mind and tries to keep everything operating as it’s supposed to, but Joy is finding it difficult to keep Riley happy and stop Sadness (Phyllis Smith) from taking over.

Kaling plays Disgust in Inside Out and really captures the general attitude and persona one would expect from Disgust personified. Inside Out is a Pixar movie, and the company rarely makes bad ones, so you can expect all the brilliant animation, unique and fun storytelling, and adorable, merchandise ready characters in this film.

The Office (Netflix)

The Office fans better watch the series on Netflix while it is still there. The Office focuses on the employees of the Scranton branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The cast includes Kaling, Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and B.J Novak.

Kaling played Kelly Kapoor for most of The Office’s nine season run (from 2005-2013). She also performed the duties of writer, director, and executive producer on the series. With Mindy’s flare for comedy and love of pop culture, she was able to make Kelly one of the scene stealing characters with a great toxic romance with Ryan. Kelly is one of my favorite The Office characters because she’s just such an entertaining character to watch, which is all credited to Kaling’s comedy and acting skills.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia “The Gang Makes Paddy's Great Again” (Hulu)

Mindy Kaling appeared on the season 13 premiere as a character named Cindy who has now become a member of the gang. Dennis (Glenn Howerton) left the gang to take care of his child. With Cindy, the gang actually excels at their schemes, a new and unusual thing for them.

If you know the gang, then you know an ethnically diverse woman running the gang is totally out of character, and Mindy’s character Cindy feels completely out of place among these lovable trash people, and that’s kind of the point. Kaling doesn’t feel right on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia because her persona is way too normal and civilized for the gang.

Wreck-It Ralph (Disney+)

Two misfit arcade game characters, Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) form a bond and vow to help each other. Wreck-it Ralph is treated as a villain in his game, Fix-It Felix Jr., and Vanellope glitches, so she’s not allowed to race in her game, Sugar Rush. Wreck-It Ralph was released in 2012 and directed by Rich Moore.

Kaling only has a small role as Taffyta Muttonfudge, one of the racers of Sugar Rush who is quite skilled, but also very mean especially to Vanellope. She’s one of the best racers in Sugar Rush and the mean girl leader of the gang. Kaling creates a great antagonist with Taffyta.

Champions (Netflix)

Mindy Kaling created and had a recurring role on Champions. The series followed Vince (Anders Holm) as he has to learn to take care of his fifteen year old son Michael (Josie Totah). Fortune Feimster and Andy Favreau also star.

This series only ran for ten episodes before being swiftly cancelled by NBC. I always thought Kaling and Anders Holm had great on-screen chemistry when he played one of her boyfriends on The Mindy Project, so I was very excited to see them work together on Champions. Unfortunately, the series got cancelled before it found its rhythm. But for Kaling fans, Champions is a fun, quick watch.

Four Weddings and A Funeral (Hulu)

Based on the movie of the same name Four Wedding and a Funeral follows a group of college friends now in their thirties as they deal with their complicated relationship with each other, and various people in their lives. The main romance of Four Weddings and a Funeral revolves around Maya (Nathalie Emmanuel ) and Kash (Nikesh Patel) as they try to ignore their growing feelings for each other.

Mindy Kaling is great at creating romantic comedies, and this is no exception. Kash and Maya, and their whole group of friends are appealing characters that make you want them to figure it all out. Besides the characters and storyline, another big strength of Four Weddings and a Funeral is the music choices. It had a very good Season 1 soundtrack.

A Wrinkle in Time (Disney+)

In 2018, Ava DuVernay directed Disney’s latest adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time. The film follows Meg (Storm Reid), her brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe), and her friend Calvin (Levi Miller) as they travel through planets looking for her father played by Chris Pine.

Mindy Kaling plays Mrs. Who, who along with Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey) and Mrs. Whatsis (Reese Witherspoon) guide the three children on their quest. Mrs. Who is known for using random quotes to offer advice and give wisdom to people.

Late Night (Amazon Prime)

Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling star in Late Night.Kaling also wrote the screenplay to this film. The 2019 dramedy was directed by Nisha Ganatra and focuses on Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson), a late night host on the brink of losing her show, and Molly Patel (Mindy Kaling), the new writer. Both women work to prove themselves, Katherine to her audience and network ready to turn her off, and Molly to Katherine and an all male writer’s room.

Thompson and Kaling both give great performances as opposite personalities who need each other to grow, succeed, and find their way. Late Night is a funny, charming, and insightful movie about finding how to stay true to yourself while altering your voice to match a changing landscape.

Despicable Me (Netflix)

Despicable Me is an animated film starring Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, and Kristen Wiig. It was released in 2010 and directed by Pierre Coffin. The film follows super villain Gru (Steve Carell) as he adopts three girls (Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher).

Kaling has a blink and you might miss it appearance in the opening of Despicable Me. She voices Justin’s mom, a mother whose rambunctious son falls into an inflatable pyramid. This isn’t a major role for Mindy Kaling, but it’s just an overall great animated film if you feel like adding something else to your watchlist.

No Strings Attached (Hulu)

Remember 2011 when both No Strings Attached and Friends with Benefits came out? The films basically follow the same premise: friends who decide just to have detached sex, only to fall for each other. No Strings Attached is the one directed by Ivan Reitman and stars Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher.

Mindy Kaling has a very small role as one of Natalie Portman’s character’s friends. Her best scene is alongside Greta Gerwig, Guy Branum, and Ashton Kutcher as they trick Kutcher’s character into being confused who he had sex with. The answer: no one.

It’s a great time to be a Mindy Kaling fan with plenty of options available on your favorite streaming site. With Never Have I Ever being so great, we can’t wait to see her future projects.

In the last year or so, Peter Segal's My Spy has been hoping around the release calendar quite a bit. The film was initially set to be released in August 2019, but then the decision was made to have it pushed to January 2020. That position also didn't wind up staying permanent, as the comedy starring Dave Bautista as a CIA agent looking after a young girl while on an undercover mission became a spring release with an April 2020 date. But then the COVID-19 pandemic started.

As a result of the global health scare, My Spy is no longer getting theatrical distribution (it will instead be heading to Amazon Prime), but we have found a way to remember its original release plans. While it’s sad that movie-fans won’t be able to see it on the big screen this weekend, the good news is that there are a number of similar films that are currently streaming/are available to rent online, and we’ve highlighted a collection of them below:

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

A typical setup in movies like My Spy (as will be seen throughout this feature) is that a big tough guy is saddled with taking care of a youngin because of some kind of responsibility – but Rich Moore’s Wreck-It Ralph does a nice job finding a fresh new approach with his film. Rather than having John C. Reilly’s titular big galoot initially watching out for Sarah Silverman’s Vanellope von Schweetz, they have to instead form an odd partnership that evolves over the course of the film. It’s a really sweet and beautiful movie, and one of the best films of the modern Walt Disney Animation Studios features.

Aliens (1986)

Given that My Spy is being sold as a family-friendly film, most of the titles on this list are movies that can be watched by audiences of pretty much any age – but this one is an exception. In the genre of badass action stars who have to take care of a kid you can’t get much better than James Cameron’s Aliens, where Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley works to protect Carrie Henn’s Newt from the hive of Xenomorphs that killed the latter’s family and took over her colony. Given all of the violence and swearing, it’s definitely a movie that only the adults who were planning to see My Spy should watch – but the iconic line “Get away from her, you bitch” alone qualifies its inclusion in this feature.

Last Action Hero (1993)

Part of the fun of the “action stars taking care of kids” genre is the idea of thinking of the blockbuster actors in their most notable roles – which is a concept that John McTiernan’s Last Action Hero explores in an awesome meta way. Rather than just being a story of a tough guy getting stuck in an unfortunate set of circumstances with a child, this film literally has the protagonist, teenager Danny Madigan (Austin O'Brien), sucked into a movie to hang out with Arnold Schwarzenegger (or more accurately Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a character named Jack Slater). It’s an under-appreciated gem, and honestly one of the best movies made that started with the base premise highlighted throughout this feature.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2016)

When I was putting titles together for this feature, my first instinct was to include James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, given that it is the best film to date featuring Dave Bautista in a prominent role. After some consideration, however, I realized that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was actually the better choice. It may not be quite as good as its predecessor, but it is a wonderful adventure featuring a great performance from Bautista, and also features the actor playing a kind of paternal/protective role in his relationship with Pom Klementieff’s Mantis. Having those two levels of connection to My Spy made it a lock for this list once it was confirmed to be streaming on Disney+.

The Game Plan (2007)

Shortly after his reign as the Scorpion King, but prior to earning a reputation as “Franchise Viagra,” Dwayne Johnson spent a short period of his career trying to gain a following with younger audiences – making movies like Race To Witch Mountain, Planet 51, and The Tooth Fairy. His gateway into this world was Andy Fickman’s The Game Plan – which is very much a perfect fit alongside My Spy from a genre perspective. Rather than taking place in the action movie realm, however, this is a sports movie equivalent, which follows Johnson as a professional quarterback who is shocked to discover that he has an eight-year-old daughter that he has to start raising as a primary guardian.

Moana (2016)

Dwayne Johnson’s career has certainly come a long way in the 13 years since the release of The Game Plan, but it’s noteworthy that he actually returned to the dynamic a little less than a decade later starring as Maui in Ron Clements and John Musker's Moana – albeit with completely different circumstances. Auli?i Cravalho's titular heroine is a bit older than most of the “kids” featured in this list (and actually nearly twice as old as My Spy’s Chloe Coleman), but her being vulnerable on an ocean-crossing adventure and Maui being a literal god maintains the spirit of the basic relationship. And as a bonus it also happens to be an absolutely gorgeous movie filled with stunning animation and an amazing soundtrack.

Disney’s The Kid (2000)

It’s nice when filmmakers can find a nice way to put a spin on an older idea, and at the very least you can give Jon Turteltaub’s The Kid credit for trying. Admittedly it’s not a perfect fit to the larger theme of this piece, as Bruce Willis isn’t exactly in John McClane mode here, but the movie is technically a feature where a notable action star is, through no effort of their own, paired up with a kid they have to take care of – and the nice extra twist in this one is that in this case Willis’ Russ Duritz is looking after a younger version of himself. If we're being honest, it's not the best way to spend 104 minutes, but at least the film is outfitted with an awesome supporting cast including Emily Mortimer, Lily Tomlin, Chi McBride, Jean Smart, Matthew Perry, Daniel von Bargen, and a pre-Gilmore Girls Melissa McCarthy.

Kindergarten Cop (1990)

Are you a person who laughs when a person says “It's not a tumor!” in an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent, but don’t actually have any context for the line? Well, now is your chance to rectify that situation with a weekend screening of Ivan Reitman's Kindergarten Cop. Like My Spy, the film is another story about an undercover law enforcement official who finds himself in the uncomfortable position of caring for children – but the trick with this one is that Arnold Schwarzenegger has to not just take care of one kid, but a whole classroom. It’s dumb, but it’s fun – particularly if you consider yourself a Schwarzenegger fan.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Shane Black has a talent when it comes to creating realistic and interesting younger characters, which goes a long way in explaining why he is the only writer and/or director who has two titles on this list. Not only did he co-write the script for Last Action Hero, but he is the guy who brought us the severely underrated Iron Man 3 – which is featured here primarily because of the bond between Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Ty Simpkins' Harley Keener. The two characters have a sharp back-and-forth that you don’t always see in the My Spy­-esque genre, and while it’s not a relationship that winds up totally defining the whole blockbuster, it is significant to the plot and the development of the hero.

The Spy Next Door (2010)

Jackie Chan is easily one of the most charismatic and fun-to-watch action stars of all time. He has a unique particular style, and it provides a wonderful accent to every title on his filmography – even those that are a bit lacking in the script department. Brian Levant’s The Spy Next Door is admittedly a movie that very much tests this concept, featuring the star at 56-years-old working to gain the affection of a trio of potential step-children. Those that don’t consider themselves super Chan fans will probably want to check out a different title on this list if in the mood for something My Spy-esque, but otherwise you’ll at least get some modestly fun action sequences.

While the history of movies based on video games is notoriously bleak (fortunately starting to get some respectability with recent releases like Rampage, Detective Pikachu, and The Angry Birds Movie 2), the same cannot really be said about movies that feature video games at the center of their plots. Though there aren’t exactly a ton of films that fit this description, a number of them are actually quite entertaining and enjoyable.

The count of films in this arena is increasing this weekend with the forthcoming release of Jake Kasdan’s Jumanji: The Next Level, so to celebrate the feature, we’ve decided to take a look back and highlight some of the best examples in cinema history. And in the spirit of the new blockbuster, let’s start with an obvious one…

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle

Years after producing one of the best board game movies ever, the Jumanji franchise returned in amazing fashion in 2017 delivering as one of the best video game movies ever. Almost everything about the original premise was changed, as instead of elements of the jungle being brought into suburban world, suburban characters were brought into the jungle, but director Jake Kasden made smart use of this altered approach, and delivered one of the best modern ensemble comedies with Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. Not only does it put together a truly fantastic cast, but it also makes clever use of familiar video game tropes unlike anything seen before it.

Tron

Visual effects were still very much in their infancy in the early 1980s, but that just makes Steven Lisberger’s Tron that much easier to reflect on as a boundary-pushing piece of legendary cinema. It’s true that the movie is a tad on the slow side narratively, but it remains an engaging and flashy watch, following software engineer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) as he is accidentally uploaded to the mainframe of his company and must work to escape with the help of Tron (Bruce Boxleitner), a program he built to protect the system. It’s a film that is easy to marvel at as a piece of science-fiction history, and also produced what can be called an underrated sequel in 2010’s Tron Legacy.

Wreck-It Ralph

With movies like Zootopia, Inside Out, and Coco, and Onward, Walt Disney Pictures Animation and Pixar have been on an interesting world-building kick in the last decade, and it all started with the extreme awesomeness of Rich Moore’s Wreck-It Ralph back in 2012. The incredibly inventive minds at WDAS got to thinking about the idea of communal life behind-the-scenes of cabinet games in arcades, and what sprung from that concept is a stellar, beautiful, and emotional piece of art. The world of video games is explored in intrepid and hilarious ways, and seven years later it remains one of the great Disney movies of the modern era.

WarGames

Many of the films on this list involve things going wrong with video games in spectacular and fantastical ways, but John Badham's WarGames is of a different breed in that it’s a bit more grounded in reality while also being a science fiction movie. Given the advancements we’ve seen in technology in the 36 years since the thriller was released, it may seem kind of silly for the plot to center on a video game that serves as a backdoor into a weapon system that can start World War III, but it remains a cool viewing experience for its fun performances (most notably from leads Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy) and interesting look at the mentality of the Cold War era. You can laugh at certain parts, but still seriously enjoy it.

The Last Starfighter

The plot of Nick Castle’s The Last Starfighter is basically a theoretical ultimate clapback to anyone who has ever suggested that playing video games won’t get you anywhere in life. And it still holds up as a fun video game-centric adventure 35 years after its release. It’s a ridiculous yet awesome premise to suggest that a particular game is a training device to help put an end to a galactic war, and the film is not only charming, but also features some seriously impressive science-fiction design work, including the alien characters, the various spaceships, and the amazing production design.

Grandma’s Boy

Being a true blue stoner comedy, Nicholaus Goossen’s Grandma’s Boy is a movie that you really need to be on board with before clicking play. That being said, if you are game to be amused, and in the right mind space, you too can become a part of this cult comedy’s following. It centers on a game designer (Allen Covert) whose life falls apart and is forced to move in with his grandmother and her two roommates (Doris Roberts, Shirley Jones, and Shirley Knight), and between his home and work life, there are all matters of strange, and regularly gross shenanigans. You can call it a guilty pleasure, but we prefer to think of it as an awesome video game movie.

eXistenZ

David Cronenberg is the true master of body horror, and in 1999 he turned his attention towards the world of video games, creating a movie that no other filmmaker could make. Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law, eXistenZ is a surreal vision that makes both its characters and the audience question the nature of reality, all while operating what is unquestionably the most disgusting controller of all time. There is a degree to which the movie has become dated, primarily because of real world advancements in the field of virtual reality, but it remains a cool auteur vision and definitely one of the coolest features made about video games.

Three star-studded new movies featuring popular, well-known characters opened this weekend. Both Ralph Breaks The Internet and Creed II outperformed their predecessors. Unfortunately, Hollywood's latest attempt to making Robin Hood did not go nearly as well, as the film sputtered to a disappointing seventh place finish.

Ralph Breaks The Internet was the clear winner this weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, the first round of the video game movie put up just south of $50M during its opening weekend. This time around, the sequel topped $55M, which should position it for a long run, especially considering the positive reviews it generated from critics. In fact, the film opened a bit earlier because of the Thanksgiving weekend, and it picked up almost an additional $30M prior to its debut weekend. As such, it would be a shock if it didn't blow past the $100M threshold early next weekend, which must be a nice relief for Disney.

There should also be plenty of excitement around the Creed II camp. The boxing sequel, which is Round 8 overall for Rocky franchise, picked up a cool $35M and change, up from the $30M or so its predecessor took home its first weekend. Combined with the early Thanksgiving returns, it's already at $55M and is benefitting from strong critic reviews as well.

As for Robin Hood, its less than $10M weekend and less than $15M total gross so far should mean the legendary character is put away for at least a hot minute. He's been trotted out to varying degrees of success via incredibly different takes over the years, but it's pretty clear he's not the James Bond-level draw producers continue to hope for. Obviously, the terrible reviews didn't help any of this (though our reviewer actually liked it), but maybe it's worth taking a step back and instead all admitting Robin Hood just doesn't resonate with modern audiences.

Bohemian Rhapsody won't pick up a ton of headlines this week because of all the glitzy openings, but it more than deserves another tip of the cap for how well it's holding. A less than fifteen percent drop in its fourth weekend is the kind of things producers in a wide release movie dream of. Clearly, people are recommending it to their family and friends, who are making an effort to get to the theater. Look for this to almost certainly signal a sharp increase in the number of music biopic script orders over the next six months. Hollywood is very much a trend business.

Finally, one more quick shoutout is deserved for A Star Is Born, as well. The film hung on in the Top 10 again this week, which is pretty impressive considering it came out OCTOBER 5TH! Well played, Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga and everyone else involved.

The following contains minor spoilers for Ralph Breaks the Internet

It's far from uncommon for animated Disney movies to include references to previous films in the form of little easter eggs for fans to spot. Ralph Breaks the Internet is certainly no exception.

What is different this time around is that, while those sorts of references are usually small and hard to notice, Ralph Breaks the Internet actually has an entire segment dedicated specifically to making Disney references. As such, the majority of the "Disney stuff" inside Ralph 2, is pretty blatant and obvious. If you saw the movie, or even just the trailers, you saw a lot of Disney related references.

However, there was actually so much going on, especially during those Oh My Disney scenes, that there were probably still a lot of things you missed. I'll need to go over Raph Break the Internet like the Zapruder film in order to see them all, but here are a few of my favorite Disney easter eggs you may not have noticed.

Rapunzel's Frying Pan

Not every Disney reference is found at Disney's internet home. One of my favorites comes while Raph and Vanellope are checking out eBay in order to get the steering wheel they need. As in real life, there's a lot of random stuff for sale online, including a random frying pan. Except, in the world of Disney, that frying pan isn't random. It's the weapon of choice for Flynn and Rapunzel in Disney's Tangled. Interestingly, a shot from the trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet which shows the frying pan also included Aladdin's lamp being for sale, but that object didn't apparently make the final cut of the film or I totally missed it.

Baby Moana and Mother

If you saw all the trailers for Ralph Breaks the Internet then you absolutely saw this little kid, as she was part of one of the funniest moments in the marketing as she screamed in horror at the sight of a bunny who ate too many pancakes. You may or may not have recognized the design of the girl because she's wearing modern clothes, but it's actually the toddler version of Moana from the film of the same name. What's more, the character is actually credited as "Baby Mo" in the credits, and "Mo's Mom" is voiced by Nicole Scherzinger, the same actress who performed the role in that film, making yet another actress who returned for this movie along with all the other princesses, like the adult Moana.

Aunt Cass

This is one of my absolute favorite easter eggs because it's one of the easiest ones to miss. Upon arriving in the internet, Raph and Vanellope are greeted by everybody's least favorite part of the internet, pop-up ads. One of the ads that gets presented to Ralph is for "Sassy Housewives" that the ad claims want to meet him. While we never get a clear look at the ad, the image that goes along with it appears to be that of Hiro's Aunt Cass from Big Hero 6, who certainly qualifies as sassy, though she's single and a small business owner, so she really doesn't qualify as a housewife. While I certainly hope Aunt Cass finds love, I'm really hoping she's not resorting to one of those awful websites.

Sorcerer Mickey

When Vanellope arrives at the Disney hub of the internet, there's a lot going on. The first shot gives us Kermit the Frog, Iron Man, and X-Wing fighters. Numerous Disney characters are visible, though the biggest thing in the shot is a massive Sorcerer's Hat from Fantasia as the centerpiece of the "Disney Animation" section. However, because the hat is so big, you might have missed that standing on top of the hat is actually Mickey Mouse himself, wearing the same hat, and performing some of the same magic that he does in the 1940s film. While we see the mouse ears all over the movie, it just wouldn't be the same if Mickey himself wasn't somewhere in the movie. It's his birthday after all.

So This Is Love

The Disney Princess sequence is probably the best in the movie from a pure humor standpoint. There are a lot of great moments where the princesses reference their previous films and make some jokes at their own expense. One that might have been less obvious, however, comes from Cinderella after the assembled Princesses have remarked on Vanellope's odd clothing. The introduction of comfortable, casual, clothes to the usually formally Princesses results in Cinderella saying "so this is love" followed by a clear sigh of joy. The line is actually the name of the song that Cinderella sings upon dancing with Prince Charming in the original animated classic. Apparently, the Prince and a pair of sweatpants are about equally as wonderful in her eyes.

Humphrey the Bear

There are so many Disney references wandering the "streets" of the internet that it's impossible to catch them all. However, one of my favorites that I was glad to see was Humphrey the Bear. He's seen doing a little dance and picking up trash on the ground, which is actually a scene from the 1956 Disney animated short In the Bag. Humphrey is certainly not a character with the history and fan base of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, but the funny bear made appearances in numerous shorts in the 1950s and even got a couple of his own. The character has remained a consistent, if small, part of Disney history and it was nice to catch a glimpse of him here.

A113

While not strictly a Disney easter egg, it's one that appears in nearly every modern Disney and Pixar film. The number is a reference to a classroom at the California Institute of the Arts where most of today's great animators received a portion of their training. Walt Disney himself played a large part in the founding of the school, making it still a Disney reference. In Ralph Breaks the Internet, the number appears as Vanellope is on the run from Stormtroopers. She finds herself in Sector A113, which is where the Disney Princess' dressing room is located.

Disney's Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet is the latest big animated movie to hit theaters. But Ralph isn't just hitting theaters... he's hitting drive-in theaters in Epic Games' Fortnite. Yes, there appears to be another crossover character coming to the Battle Royale game from a popular Disney movie and it looks to be none other than Wreck-It Ralph.

Clips have been popping up all over the internet, one of which comes from Twitch streamer Mozzzyy, who was minding his own business, gathering up supplies such as ammo crates and traps while tearing through a house, only for the big strongman, Ralph, to come waltzing across the screen, waving, and then making an exit.

Now, for extra context here, Ralph isn't playable in Fortnite. You can't select him as a skin and dive into the game playing as Ralph, going around wrecking things and beating up people using a pick-axe, even though Ralph seems like a perfect fit for Epic's Battle Royale game.

According to multiple sources, it appears Ralph is limited (for now) to just appearing on the drive-in movie theater screen at Risky Reels, which makes perfect sense given that the movie is in theaters. Ralph will briefly appear if the drive-in theater screen is within full view of the player, and stay there for a few seconds. You'll briefly see Ralph pop up on the drive-in movie theater screen, wave, and then he'll dash off to the right.

There's nothing else that appears on the screen and, so far, there are no other elements that comprise of Ralph's appearance other than him popping up on the theater screen.

Speculation has arisen about the future plans of Ralph in Fortnite, with some assuming he'll become a playable character for a brief time. According to PC Gamer, there are rumors circulating that an event may soon arrive in the game that either centers around Ralph or allows him to become playable. This is also heightened by the fact that Epic's Fortnite has cameos in the Ralph Breaks The Internet, which lends further credence to the idea that Epic and Disney are on fairly solid terms.

This shouldn't be too surprising, either, given that both companies teamed up earlier in the year when Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters and the main villain, Thanos, appeared in the game and was playable for a short period of time. Thanos actor Josh Brolin wasn't all too thrilled to see the giant purple Titan dancing his butt off on the battlefield, but he found it amusing nonetheless.

If it's true that a mini-event is set to take place within the Battle Royale game, then it won't be long before you'll be seeing plenty of Ralph dancing across the battlefield and wrecking plenty of structures in Fortnite. John C. Reilly is best known as an Academy Award-nominated actor, but he has proven that he can do a lot more than that. In recent years he has been additionally active as both a writer and a producer, taking a stronger creative role in the projects of which he is a part. As it turns out, this extends to Walt Disney Animation Studios' Ralph Breaks The Internet as well, as while he's not specifically credited in the movie, he was a presence during film's story development, primarily providing basically a first-hand perspective for the titular character. He recently told me,

As noted, John C. Reilly had an "additional story material by" credit on the first Wreck-It Ralph, and evidently it was a positive enough experience that he was brought in to do similar work for Ralph Breaks The Internet. The subject came up earlier this month when I sat down with the actor/writer during the new movie's Los Angeles press junket, when I asked if he felt he had a stronger creative hand in the development of the sequel. He explained that the experience wasn't largely different from the making of the first film, but added that it was ultimately important in terms of his personal investment into the project.

Reilly, of course, voices the titular Wreck-It Ralph in the new movie, and the majority of the narrative is dedicated to his personal growth as a character (along with Sarah Silverman's Vanellope von Schweetz). Rather than just standing on the sidelines and reading lines presented to him in a recording booth, the actor instead opted to get heavily involved with the process and ensure that Ralph's evolution was natural and made sense. Said Reilly,

And it's worth noting that this behind-the-scenes presence isn't just a one-off thing for John C. Reilly. Not many films are developed like the projects at Walt Disney Animation Studios, written by teams and constantly being constructed and deconstructed, but the actor/writer/producer is still finding ways to be more involved with the movies and shows of which he chooses to be a part. That's essentially where his head is at this point is in his career, as he explained,

Just a few months ago John C. Reilly was credited as both an actor and producer for Jacques Audiard's The Sisters Brothers, and he's currently developing a new series called Moonbase 8 (which is an original creation). Right now, though, you can Ralph Breaks The Internet on big screens everywhere, as the movie is now out in wide release.

Played by Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, Fix-It Felix and Sgt. Calhoun were two of the most important supporting characters in 2012's Wreck-It Ralph - but their roles are definitely diminished in the new sequel. While they do appear at both the beginning and end of Ralph Breaks The Internet, they're absent for the majority of the film. This may be upsetting news for those who fell in love with the duo in the first feature, but co-director Phil Johnston recently explained the very simple reason why their parts aren't bigger in the follow-up:

Killing your darlings is hard but necessary work in feature film making, given that it's a medium with limited narrative real estate, and that's the basic story behind what happened to Felix and Calhoun in Ralph Breaks The Internet. Apparently directors Phil Johnston and Rich Moore came up with some great stuff for the characters during the storybuilding process at Walt Disney Animation Studios, but when it came to piecing the final movie together it wasn't material that made the finished cut.

I brought up the subject of Felix and Calhoun when I sat down with the two Ralph Breaks The Internet directors earlier this month, curious if there were versions of the movie that featured more of them. After all, there is a perfect set-up established in which the two wedded heroes become parents to all of Vanellope's fellow Sugar Rush racers, who need to be taken care of after their game is unplugged. Rich Moore not only revealed that there was initially going to be more Felix and Calhoun check-ins, but also discussed an early idea for a subplot that would have seen the worlds of the internet and Game Central Station linked together via a specific new character. Said Moore,

Rather than trying to find some way to weave everything together, the filmmakers ultimately decided that the simpler approach was the better approach. They knew that they had a wonderful pair of protagonists in Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman), and it was decided that their story alone was more than enough material for Ralph Breaks The Internet.

As noted, the good news is that it's not like Felix and Calhoun have been eliminated from the film entirely, and fans will definitely be able to appreciate the roles that they do have in Ralph Breaks The Internet. You can actually witness their return (along with most of the other main Wreck-It Ralph characters) right now, as the sequel is in theaters everywhere.

A theatrical sequel to an animated Disney movie is a rare thing. In fact, it's only happened once before. Twice if you count Fantasia 2000. Ralph Breaks the Internet brings back the video game characters of Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz and sends them to explore the world of the internet. How does the sequel stack up to the original? The official CinemaBlend review gave the new movie four out of five stars and our own Eric Eisenberg felt that, while it may not be quite as good as the original Wreck-It Ralph, it was still a great time spent with great characters.

As with the best of Disney's animated films, the movie isn't simply "for kids" as it deals with some fairly serious topics that the youngest viewers might not understand on first viewing, but their parents certainly will. The setting of the film is a bight, shiny new playground with the physical representation of the internet built to look like a massive technological city, with every name you know from Google to Pinterest represented as a building. But the movie isn't about that, it's about Ralph and Vanellope, and their relationship, and that's where most here would agree the movie shines, though we disagree about just how much.

Not everybody at CinemaBlend fell in love with Ralph Breaks the Internet. Managing Director Sean O'Connell feels the sequel really suffers in comparison to the original. He doesn't feel the new movie is bad, just disappointing.

While Sean didn't feel that Raph Breaks the Intenet was a worthy sequel, with everything in the film feeling less than Wreck-It Ralph. His opinion is not universal. CinemaBlend project manager Cody Beck actually felt the sequel exceeded the original, thanks, in part, to a continuous stream of laugh moments and references to both Disney and internet culture.

At the heart of Ralph Breaks the Internet is a story of friendship. Many fell in love with the story of Ralph and Vanellope. It's the reason the sequel exists in the first place, but CinemaBlend News Director Jessica Rawden felt that ultimately the sequel's constant focus on the brands of the internet doesn't do that relationship any favors.

As the resident CinemaBlend Disney expert and also the Games editor, it would seem fairly obvious that the original Wreck-It Ralph was a particularly special film for me. In the end, I have to say I really enjoyed the sequel, and if it doesn't reach the level of the best Disney films, that's only because the best Disney films, like Wreck-It Ralph, have set a pretty high bar.

It's certainly true that the "branding" that is present all over the film is a bit overdone, but ultimately that's just window dressing. Almost none of it is actually important to the film. What is important is Ralph and Vanellope and the ultimate message the movie is trying to convey. When that message takes center stage, Ralph Breaks the Internet is as good as the original, as good as Zootopia, as good as anytime Disney has had something important to say. However, Ralph Breaks the Internet feels like a movie of two halves, and the first half is a zany road movie that takes a bit too long to get to its ultimate goal, which is the second half with the important things to say.

Also, while the fourth wall adjacent portion of the movie that sends Vanellope among Disney's Princesses has been part of the marketing, there's luckily a lot more than has been shown in the trailers, and it's all hilarious. It's also not simply there for strictly punchline reasons, as the film takes a serious look at its own legacy and takes its licks where necessary regarding the parts of Disney history that maybe haven't aged well.

In the end, it feels like most of just arguing over exactly what degree of quality Ralph Breaks the Internet actually has. Nobody is calling it a bad movie. It seems likely that most everybody will enjoy the time they spent with it. In the end, the only question will be whether you like it or love it.

Sarah Silverman has had an impressive career as a comedian, actress, writer and producer, but she's not exactly known to be family friendly. So when Disney Animation hired her to voice the role of Vanellope von Schweetz, they must have known that some of her hilariously off-color personality would come through somehow. Silverman recently admitted that during a press junket at Disneyland for Wreck-It Ralph in 2012, she was constantly reminded she was part of a movie for kids. After one interview, she said one Disney representative told her this:

In an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the comedian said she felt a bit insulted to be constantly drilled about the wholesome nature of her role as Vanellope, but looks like you can't completely filter Sarah Silverman. I mean that slip-up is an easy one to mend ('She was referring Coca-Cola! Ha!') and she didn't say it in the movie or in a public setting among children. Disney is a studio who aims to keep it PG for all its content and press around it, so that understandably made a few publicists sweat when the line slipped out.

During the recount of the uncensored slip-up between Sarah Silverman and Seth Meyers, he tried to make her feel better by agreeing that the arcade game character Q*Bert does have the nose for the stimulant, Silverman adding he is also constantly talking inaudibly. While this conversation clearly suits late night television than a Disney interview, Q*Bert is technically one of Silverman's co-stars and talking ill of him in interviews isn't to be taken lightly. I mean, he could press charges for defamation...

All jokes aside, Sarah Silverman's anecdote about her dealings with interviews for Disney is a hilarious one. Disney Animation casting Silverman as Vanellope and John C. Reilly as Ralph was a bold choice to make, since both leads usually joke about primarily joke about mature content in their previous work. Reilly is likely best known for his role in Step Brothers alongside Will Ferrell, though he did appear in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. Casting the two actors does bring a sort of edge to the studio and additional audiences who are fans of them. Plus, Silverman and Reilly are perfect in their arcade game character's roles.

Just six years after Wreck-It Ralph, Sarah Silverman has the distinct honor of getting to reprise her character of Vanellope in the sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet. Not many Disney animated films have been given a sequel, so Silverman's slip-up looks to be water under the bridge. The upcoming film has Ralph and Vanellope venturing to the World Wide Web and hitting a bump in the road of their friendship, and it comes to theaters on November 21.

There are many things to look forward to in Walt Disney Animation Studio's Ralph Breaks The Internet, but a big part of the hype surrounding the film has been the inclusion of the Disney Princesses. The movie will be the first to feature all of the classic characters together, and since that fact was revealed last year there has been conversation about their potential future. Could the ensemble regroup to carry their own feature? Directors Rich Moore and Phil Johnston believe that it's a concept that's definitely on the table:

With Ralph Breaks The Internet set to arrive in theaters in just a few weeks, Disney held their domestic press day in Los Angeles this weekend, and I had the pleasure of sitting down with the new movie's directors. It was at the end of our on-camera interview that I asked for their thoughts about a Disney Princesses movie, and while they had a few caveats -- including the audience reaction to the portrayals and a good narrative foundation -- they totally backed the idea.

We meet the Disney Princesses together in Wreck-It Ralph during a sequence in which fellow princess Vanellope Von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) is visiting OhMyDisney.com. The diminutive, spunky racer sneaks into the dressing room of their stage show, and while security is on high at first, ultimately their shared experiences create an amazing bond. Before long they are all hanging out in pajamas, and the princesses are helping Vanellope with an existential crisis.

The sequence allows for a lot of wonderful meta jokes that add a lovable self-awareness to characters who previously didn't have that benefit. The portrayals add new dimensions, while also doing an interesting job of changing how we look at some long-established pop-culture icons. This was something that Rich Moore pointed out as he continued his argument in defense of the idea:

Of course, a lot of what's great about the Ralph Breaks The Internet is how we get the opportunity to see how the Disney Princesses interact together -- and Rich Moore noted that you can quickly see some interesting dynamics and relationships established. Said the co-director,

When you look at Ralph Breaks The Internet from a modern Hollywood perspective, the film is a no-brainer. Wreck-It Ralph was a box office smash when it was released in late 2012, grossing nearly half a billion worldwide, and the standard response to those kinds of numbers in the industry is to greenlight a sequel. The only place where that isn't par for the course, however, is Walt Disney Animation Studios, and the filmmakers behind the new movie are very aware of that legacy. As co-director Rich Moore puts it,

Walt Disney Animation Studios has created 56 films going back to the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, but a surprising part of that number is that only two of them are sequels: 1990's The Rescuers Down Under, and 2000's Fantasia 2000. While there have been follow-ups made to some of the more popular titles -- such as Aladdin and The Lion King -- they were developed as home video releases and weren't made by the same division of the company.

It was actually at Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California that I had the recent opportunity to do a three-on-one interview with Rich Moore, co-director Phil Johnston, producer Clark Spencer and discuss their work on Ralph Breaks The Internet. Sitting down with the filmmakers, my first question out of the gate was about the company's limited sequel history -- and they made it clear it was something they were aware of all throughout the process of making the movie.

Going back and discussing the early development of Ralph Breaks The Internet just as a concept, Clark Spencer noted that there was never really a mandate for the company to start developing a Wreck-It Ralph 2. Instead, the producer -- who has been producing with Disney since 2002's Lilo And Stitch -- explained that the project simply wouldn't have happened if Rich Moore and Phil Johnston come to the folks at Walt Disney Animation Studios with a great pitch:

As noted, Ralph Breaks The Internet will move Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) out of the arcade and into the world wide web where they hope to find a steering wheel that will repair Vanellope's game. Along the way they run into a whole lot of cool characters -- including all of the Disney Princesses -- but most important among them is Yesss (Taraji P. Henson), an algorithm with the skills to turn Ralph into an internet sensation.

Given the long list of copycat sequels that just try to replicate the success of the processor, it's exciting to see Ralph Breaks The Internet go in a totally different direction than Wreck-It Ralph -- but that just opens the door to a different source of pressure. Not only does the new movie have to deal with the limited legacy of Walt Disney Animation Studios, but also, as Phil Johnston put it, the sincere general challenge of telling a worthy follow-up story:

All animated Disney films go through a rigorous story process where the narrative is repeatedly constructed and deconstructed, all in the name of making the end product as good as possible. It's a process of constant adjustment, but it's all the more complicated when the sequel element is introduced. As Rich Moore explained, it led to some interesting story swings -- some of which apparently didn't go over too well:

Piggybacking on Rich Moore's comments, Phil Johnston told a funny and enlightening story about the behind-the-scenes process on Ralph Breaks The Internet and the weird way he was reintroduced to the predecessor. Said the filmmaker,

It's funny yet totally understandable that filmmakers can work so intensely on an animated project for such a long time that by the end they are just ready to let go. At the same time, though, it seems like it will make Ralph Breaks The Internet all the better, as the filmmakers could look back at Wreck-It Ralph with a fresh perspective and understanding of why it works so well.

The upcoming sequel to 2012's Wreck-It-Ralph will move from the nostalgia of arcade games to the complexity of the worldwide web. But since the exciting announcement that the animated film would include a massive crossover with Vanellope and all the official Disney Princesses, the studio has faced one reality of the internet: social media backlash. Over the summer, when part of the scene from Ralph Breaks the Internet was released, Princess Tiana's differing appearance than that of in The Princess in the Frog angered fans. Disney's oly black princess was featured with lighter skin and a narrower nose than Tiana has been previously been seen in her 2009 film. A mere two months before the release of the sequel, Disney is finishing revisions to the character to more credibly depict the Disney princess.

According to a report from Wall Street Journal, Disney Animation has been hard at work on revisions of Princess Tiana's appearance for the scene. The studio sought feedback from voice actress of Tiana, Anika Noni Rose, along with advocacy organization, Color of Change to more accurately depict the Disney character. Color of Change, which focuses on issues of racial representation and political inequality in media, worked directly with Disney in Burbank, CA to review the revised artwork of Tiana-- described as now having darker hair and skin, a wider nose and full lips. The organization released a statement commending Disney for deciding to take the time to change Tiana's features following the backlash.

During a 2017 panel at the D23 Expo, the studio announced that the beloved Disney princesses would be seen hanging out in one room alongside Vanellope. The scene will feature the original voices of most of the princesses, including Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Jodi Benson as Ariel. The scene will likely be brief, but it certainly creates added excitement for Ralph Breaks the Internet for hardcore Disney fans especially. The film will also feature other sectors belonging to Disney's properties, since Stormtroopers were spotted in the film's released footage. It will also tackle the many other corners of the internet, including some dismal ones as well.

Disney has been no stranger to making expensive decisions due to controversies on social media recently. The company decided to cancel the new ABC television show, Roseanne, after the network star took to Twitter, posting insensitive comments, along with firing Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn for past tweets that gained attention of the internet. The company has dealt with press related to representation regarding animated character's ethnicities and sexual orientations previously, as well. Tiana's revised appearance can be seen when Ralph Breaks the Internet hits theaters on November 21.

While the first trailer for Ralph Breaks The Internet was released all the way back in February, and another came out this summer, they didn't exactly provide a lot of story context. We learned that Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) were going to be visiting the internet and getting into a variety of shenanigans, but the preview didn't explain what the film was actually going to be about. As a result, the mystery has persisted for months, but now the story at the heart of the Wreck-It Ralph sequel.

A few weeks back I attended a special press day at Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California for an inside look at the making of Ralph Breaks The Internet, and it was through a variety of presentations and interviews that I learned the central plot of the new movie. It picks up where the last one left off, with Ralph and Vanellope living comfortably and harmoniously in their respective games -- Fix It Felix and Sugar Rush -- but everything changes when the arcade owner, Mr. Litwak (Ed O'Neill), plugs in a Wi-Fi router. At first the device is deemed totally off limits for all game characters, but we all know that won't really stop our heroes... especially in a time of crisis.

That time of crisis is specifically comes thanks to an incident with the Sugar Rush cabinet, as an over-excited player accidentally breaks one of the steering wheels. Because the manufacturer no longer exists, the only replacement available online costs more than the game makes in a year, Mr. Litwak is forced to make the terrible decision to unplug it. As a result, Vanellope is left homeless, but Ralph is determined to help her, and believes that the answer to their problems rests on the internet -- specifically on the website eBay.

After sneaking into the router and being transported to the World Wide Web -- awed by it's incredible and expansive majesty -- a Search Bar takes them to eBay where they find the auction for the Sugar Rush steering wheel (which is amidst items such as a portrait of a sad kitten and a potato chip shaped like Beyoncé). Unfortunately, they don't actually understand how an auction works, and think that it's just a race to say a higher number than the other bidders. As a result, they wind up winning, but owing a handsome sum of $27,001. Ralph and Vanellope learn about this serious mistake, and are told that they have 24 hours to complete the purchase or forfeit the item.

Needing to earn a crazy amount of money quickly, the heroes come into contact with Yesss (Taraji P. Henson) -- the algorithm that exists behind the trendiest website online, BuzzTube. She tells them that the best way to make money on the internet is through the creation of a viral video, and while that puts the characters on a positive path, it's also one full of landmines for Ralph, given how he validates himself through other people.

Ralph Breaks The Internet is described by directors Rich Moore and Phil Johnston as a road film that will take Ralph and Vanellope into all aspects of the online experience -- so what's above is really only the set up for the larger story and larger world that the movie is building. It's incredibly exciting -- particularly for those of us who love Wreck-It Ralph -- and we'll have a lot more for you about the new Disney animated film in the weeks and months ahead.

In the run-up to Ralph Breaks The Internet, no sequence has been more hyped than Vanellope meeting the classic Disney Princesses. Details of the scene were first revealed during the D23 Expo in 2017, with the news that most of the original voice actors would be returning, and audiences even got their first glimpse this past summer with the film's second trailer. Still, there has been a prevalent question about the premise, with fans wondering why Princess Leia isn't included in the grouping, but co-director Rich Moore has a very straight-forward explanation for the choice:

A few weeks back I joined a group of journalists on a visit to Walt Disney Animation Studios to witness the goings-on behind the making of Ralph Breaks The Internet, and it was during a question and answer session with co-directors Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, and producer Clark Spencer that the subject of Princess Leia came up. According to Moore, there isn't any super specific reason why the Rebel/Resistance leader isn't featured in the scene beyond the idea that there kind of is an "official" list of Disney Princesses and that she's not on it.

So how is that list determined? That wasn't made entirely clear -- though co-writer Pamela Ribon (who also voices Snow White in the movie) had her own thoughts on the question later in the day during a presentation specifically about the Disney Princess scene. In her mind the classification is primarily reserved for those characters born at Walt Disney Animation, which Princess Leia wasn't, and added a special extra caveat involving Disney's theme parks. Said Ribon,

For those who don't know about the scene, in Ralph Breaks The Internet Vanellope is being pursued while visiting the website OhMyDisney.com when she winds up in the dressing room of the Disney Princesses -- including Jasmine, Snow White, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Elsa, Anna, Moana, Belle, Rapunzel, Tiana, Merida and Sleeping Beauty. Not only is the little gamer girl from Sugar Rush able to connect with them because she is a princess too, but also because her acts of heroism and badassery are overshadowed by the presence of a big strong man. Before long they're all hanging out in their pajamas and chatting like old friends. And while Princess Leia isn't counted among them, Star Wars does get a bit of inclusion as it's C-3PO who eventually comes in the room to break up the party and announce that the Princesses' next performance is about to begin.

Ralph Breaks The Internet - which stars John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Taraji P. Henson, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer, Gal Gadot, and many more -- will be arriving in theaters November 21st.

Wreck-It Ralph is about to return to the big screen, but it looks like he might also be making a big move into Disney Parks, replacing one of the least popular attractions currently running. A new rumor indicates that a new Wreck-It Ralph based attraction may be planned for the space in the Magic Kingdom currently housing Stitch's Great Escape, an attraction that has been reduced to a "seasonal" experience, because, seriously, nobody likes it.

This isn't the first time that rumors of a Wreck-It Ralph based attraction have popped up, as a couple years ago a rumor implied that a VR racing experience based around the Sugar Rush racing game was planned for the same space. However, since then Disney has indicated that it's not planning any VR attractions, leaving those to The Void, who may actually be working on a VR experience based on Ralph Breaks the Internet, set to hit theaters in November.

However, Walt Disney World News Today is reporting on a rumor that Walt Disney Imagineering is, in fact, still working, or perhaps working once again, on some sort of Ralph theme park experience to take over the Stitch's Great Escape space. There's no indication of what the attraction could encompass, beyond the fact that it likely won't be VR-based.

If true, this will be welcome news for a lot of Walt Disney World fans. Stitch's Great Escape is not exactly the most beloved attraction in the park. It consists of a circular room where the audience straps into chairs to view Stitch in captivity, when he "unexpectedly" escapes, cuts the power, and then proceeds to mess with the audience in the dark, via the use of directional sound effects, motion simulation built into the chair, and other tricks. There is little in this world less appealing then Stitch belching in your ear and then having the smell of a chili dog waft into a room you can't leave.

It's almost certain that something will be going in that space before long, while Stitch's Great Escape is currently a "seasonal" attraction, meaning it's only open during high traffic times, it hasn't been open since last holiday season ended. It seems that whatever may be planned for the future is still in a very early stage so nothing will be built any time soon.

Stitch's Great Escape itself took over the space from the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which used the same basic attraction structure but included a much scarier alien creature, which was originally conceived to be based on the Alien film franchise. It was a generally better-received attraction but was actually viewed as too scary for young children, which eventually resulted in the ride being replaced by something more family friendly.

So far, Ralph Breaks the Internet is looking pretty good, and if it does as well as its predecessor there will be even more fans who will want to see Ralph in the park somewhere. With a major Walt Disney World anniversary on the horizon, perhaps we'll see the new attraction debut in 2021.

Gal Gadot may be reprising her role iconic role in Wonder Woman 1984, but the actress will also be appearing in another highly anticipated sequel. Gadot will be lending her voice to Ralph Breaks the Internet, the follow up to Disney's Wreck-It Ralph. In the film, Gadot plays Shank, a character from a racing game who becomes an ally to Ralph and his friend Vanellope von Schweetz. Not long after the initial announcement, new footage of the film has been released that offers the first look at Gadot's Shank in action. Check out the footage below.

Before becoming Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot was best known for her role as Giselle, a calm and cool street racer from the Fast and Furious franchise. Giselle died in Furious 6, so Ralph Breaks the Internet is probably the closets that fans will get to seeing the character again. Gadot dusts off her mad driving skills in Ralph Breaks the Internet as Shank, a character from an online racing game called Slaughter Race. She's got something of a bad-girl vibe, and the latest footage from the sequel fittingly shows off Shanks racing against Vanellope.

While Disney Princess just hanging out in their pajamas has become the high point of the film's trailers, it's hard to ignore Gal Gadot. The latest footage from Ralph Breaks the Internet shows Ralph (John C. Reily) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) meeting Shank and engaging in a race. It looks like Vanellope is great at racing in pretty much any game she's in, pulling off some slick moves against Shank and earning some respect. Slaughter Race looks like Fast and Furious mixed with Mad Max, which is to say it's metal as hell.

This is a pretty good tease for Shank and the world that she lives in, although it doesn't give us much of a peek at her personality. Gadot has said that Shank is tough, but has a sweet and friendly side as well. Here's hoping that she gets to leave her game to help Ralph and Vanellope out in the wilds of the internet.

Ralph Breaks the Internet looks very fun, and it'll be exciting to see how the movie will tackle (and make fun of) the internet at large. The movie is set with a release date for November 21, 2018. Various outlets from all over the world recently had the opportunity to get their hands on Kingdom Hearts III and, alongside a bunch of gameplay details, we've learned that Wreck-It Ralph will be crashing the party.

The above tweet comes from the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter feed, showing off images pulled from the Kingdom Hearts 3 premier. We see a couple new abilities for Sora and Co. in action, an image of a new Keyblade ability and, yep, Ralph himself toting Sora on his shoulders and, we presume, shouting "I'm gonna wreck it!"

The image of Ralph takes place in the arcade from Toy Story, leading us to wonder if the two storylines will somehow overlap. Ralph lives in a classic arcade cabinet, after all. While it's possible that we'll be visiting the world from Wreck-It Ralph, word on the street is that he's one of Kingdom Hearts III's summons. In previous games, summons weren't typically from playable worlds, which would be a bit of a bummer. We'll just have to wait and see where the final game will be taking us.

Over at Polygon, they've actually shared some details about how Ralph functions in the game. In KHIII, Sora can call on Ralph, who then runs around the level planting bombs before making them all explode. These abilities are called Links in the new game, and Sora will likely have quite the arsenal of classic Disney characters to call upon.

That same post goes on to add a couple new details to help flesh out other new abilities we first heard about for Kingdom Hearts III several years back. A more powerful type of summon in this outing is called an "Attraction" attack, which calls forth a ride from Disney's theme parks. There's a train based on Thunder Mountain, for instance, and some insanely fast-moving teacups from the Mad Tea Party ride.

A collection of new Keyblades was also on display, with players able to freely swap between three weapons on the fly in Kingdom Hearts III. The demo included Keyblades themed after Monsters, Inc., Tangled and Toy Story, all worlds we've previously seen will be available in the game.

We'd put good money on this demo making an appearance at E3 in Los Angeles next month, but nothing official has been shared by Square Enix on that particular count. We're also hopeful that some additional worlds will be announced at that time and, you know, maybe a release date. We'd love to see something from Frozen, Moana and other recent Disney hits. We've also got our fingers crossed for some less likely Disney properties making an appearance, such as Marvel and Star Wars. Also, will there be any sort of Final Fantasy ties in Kingdom Hearts III? We'll just have to wait and see.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has existed for over 100 years and from day one it has been a global leader in animation. Disney has produced 62 feature films over the last century, many of which are still considered some of the greatest animated movies of all time. But which one is the best?

With the recent release of Moana 2, we take a fresh look at the history of Disney animation. Where does the studio's newest endeavor rank among the greats? Read on to find out.

63. Home On The Range (2004)

Home on the Range is a movie that there's a very good chance you forget even existed, and there's a reason for that. It's the single most forgettable Disney animated movie. It's an absolute shame that the one time Judi Dench lent her voice to a Disney film, it was this dull and lifeless story. The fact that she plays second fiddle to Roseanne Barr is all the more confusing. Barr's appearance might have made sense if this movie came out in 1992, but in 2004, it's far too late for anything in this film to be relevant.

62. The Black Cauldron (1985)

The Black Cauldron nearly single-handedly killed Disney animation, and that's just the beginning of this one. The story crams together details from several different fantasy novels, and it's clear, as the various bits and pieces of the movie feel crammed together with little to no connective tissue explaining anything that happens. It has a protagonist who is utterly unlikeable from start to finish and side characters that are actually worse. The film had such potential as a more mature Disney feature, and in another era, this would have been handled properly with an eye toward making this a franchise in its own right. Instead, we get an adventure made up of characters you'd never want to go on an adventure with in the first place.

61. The Aristocats (1970)

The Aristocats was the first feature released by the studio without Walt Disney and it shows. It's got quite possibly the most useless villain in Disney history, and that's a fatal flaw when you're talking about films that include some of the best villains in all of cinema. The plot, overall, is utterly nonsensical, with a butler who attempts to kill his employer's cats after he learns they will inherit her fortune before the butler does. Not that the employer expects to be dead anytime soon, making the whole thing bizarre. Frequent Disney voice actor Phil Harris has done better work for the company, and so has Eva Gabor, for that matter.

60. The Fox And The Hound (1981)

The Fox and the Hound isn't a bad movie, but if the idea were proposed today, there's no way it would get the green light. There just isn't enough of a story here. Disney has done small-scale stories before, but the emotional core of those is missing here. There just isn't enough to get a hold of and get invested in with The Fox and the Hound. No characters get fleshed out enough to become liked or hated, and that includes the characters in the title. It's a movie starring cute animals, and that's not nothing, but it's hardly enough.

59. Oliver And Company (1988)

While Disney was trying to find its way in the '80s, the studio released a version of Oliver Twist that saw the characters reimagined as animals in New York City. The premise isn't terrible, but the story gets so reimagined that little of the classic remains. Billy Joel’s inclusion as both the voice of Dodger and part of the ‘80s pop soundtrack is about all you need to know.. The movie desperately wants to be cool, and as is usually the case, when you try too hard, you end up having the opposite impact. There are some fun moments in Oliver and Company, but the film is mostly forgettable overall.

58. Chicken Little (2005)

Chicken Little was one of Disney's early forays into computer animation, and like a lot of animation from that era, it doesn’t hold up the way classically drawn animation does. The story that goes along with it has just enough of a plot to be considered a movie. Much like Oliver and Company, it tries far too hard to be hip, which, especially now, has the effect of dating the material terribly. There's a kernel of a good idea in here, as the first part of the movie focuses on a son trying desperately to be accepted by his father, and that part works, but that story is pretty much over by the midpoint and all you have left are the space aliens.

57. Dinosaur (2000)

Dinosaur was Disney's first foray into a computer-animated movie which opens with a fantastic sequence that sees a dinosaur egg get separated from its nest and go on a silent (except for the score) journey across a beautiful prehistoric Earth. It's quite stunning. And then characters start talking and it all goes to hell. While Dinosaur's animation is clearly dated, it holds up acceptably. What doesn't hold up is the story, which is essentially The Land Before Time, but with less interesting characters.

56. The Sword In The Stone (1963)

The Sword in the Stone is a strange film because one wonders why they bothered to make it a King Arthur story in the first place. The titular object only appears at the tail end of the story and instead, the film focuses on a teenage Arthur and Merlin running around as different animals in some sort of bizarre attempt at educating the future king. Outside of the final moments, this could have been a different story, and probably should have been. It's more like a collection of shorts than a cohesive story. The actor playing Arthur apparently went through puberty during recording as the character's voice changes from high pitched to low and back again throughout the film. Clearly, nobody was paying much attention to this movie.

55. Melody Time (1948)

During World War II, Disney Studios stopped producing the fairy tale films they were known for and instead focused on "package films," collections of shorter animations that were cheaper to produce during what was a lean time in America overall. Melody Time was one of the final films produced like this. While there's nothing wrong with any of the shorts in it — they're all fine — there aren't any that are of particular note either, which makes Melody Time really the least interesting of the package films. There's no cohesive narrative or even theme between the shorts and it feels even more thrown together than the rest of the collections.

54. Meet The Robinsons (2007)

A story that nobody was looking for based on a book that few were familiar with, Meet the Robinsons takes a simple idea from a children's picture book and expands on it to reach a theatrical length. The story we end up with, dealing with time travel, alternate timelines, and other such sci-fi elements — but in only the simplest possible way — feels utterly contrived and not nearly as creative as we know Disney can be. The entire movie feels like a set-up for a big reveal that is telegraphed from the beginning.

53. Brother Bear (2003)

Brother Bear features one of the most irritating Disney sidekicks in history, which is saying something. The heartfelt message at the center of the story is a worthy one, but every time the film gets close to building some real emotion, the Phil Collins soundtrack jumps in to steal all the thunder and kill any feeling that might have been building in the audience. If the music was particularly good that would be one thing, but when it plays over one of the most heartbreaking conversations ever in an animated film, hearing what the characters say could have made Brother Bear one of the all-time greats.

52. Ralph Breaks The Internet (2018)

Ralph Breaks The Internet works as a sort of inverse of Brother Bear. The movie has a solid ending that includes some really emotional moments and some important themes. Unfortunately, it takes a really long time to get there, and doesn’t seem quite sure what to do with itself while it's waiting. There are some great jokes, including a hilarious musical number and a great bit with all the Disney princesses brought together, but it’s such a product of its time, one wonders how long it will be relevant.

51. Make Mine Music (1946)

Make Mine Music was the first short collection released by Disney as a feature film. It's essentially Fantasia, by another name. One of the segments, Blue Bayou, was actually originally created for that film, but with all different sorts of music, not simply classical. There's no connective tissue between the shorts, which Fantasia has, which makes some of the jumps between them feel really disjointed. Shifting from the calm and peaceful Blue Bayou into All the Cats Join In (with music by the Benny Goodman Orchestra) could give you whiplash. Still, it does contain a couple of classics in Disney's version of Peter and the Wolf and Casey at the Bat.

50. Fun And Fancy Free (1947)

Fun and Fancy Free is another package film, only this one contains a pair of longer stories, rather than multiple shorts. First is Little Bear Bongo, about a circus bear that escapes to the wild and falls in love, and second is Mickey and the Beanstalk, about Mickey Mouse...and a beanstalk. It's one you've more than likely seen, though it's less likely you've seen the feature film version that includes narration from ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and his dummy Charlie McCarthy. If their style of humor works for you (and it does for this writer), it's actually pretty great.

49. The Rescuers (1977)

The Rescuers was one of those 1970s Disney films where it was clear the studio wasn't quite sure what to do with itself. The film sees a collection of mice who have made it their job to help out humans, including, in this case, a little orphan girl who has been kidnapped because she's small enough to fit down a hole where the remains of a treasure from a sunken ship can be found. Yeah, the plot is rough. Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor voice Bernard and Miss Bianca, our two rodent leads, and they work well together. Everyone working on this one must have done something right, as they got a sequel.

48. Hercules (1997)

This movie is a beautiful mess. Hercules is about finding your place in the world. Or perhaps it's a movie about the problems with celebrity culture? A classic “chosen one” hero's journey? Hercules doesn't know what it wants to be. Still, there is something oddly charming about everything in the film that isn't Danny DeVito. Amongst the film's issues, there are a couple of standout performances, including an all-time great villain in James Woods' Hades and female lead in Susan Egan's Megara, who will be forever criminally overlooked because she was in a movie that wasn't a smash.

47. Pocahontas (1995)

Once upon a time, Disney believed Pocahontas was the movie that would win the Animation Studio the coveted Best Picture Oscar. Needless to say, that didn't happen. It's clear from the beginning that Pocahontas wants to be something grand and important, but the execution of the idea never quite works. It's false equivalency of both Native Americans and European settlers as "savages" tries desperately to be insightful, but it's not. The music is also off-key, as there's almost nothing memorable about the soundtrack. It's a visually stunning film, but that's about all that makes Pocahontas special.

46. Strange World (2022)

The most recent Disney animated feature, as of this writing in June 2023, Strange World was certainly not one of the studio’s biggest hits. And while the movie does have a lot going for it, including colorful and inventive animation, and a story inspired by classic pulp adventure stories, there’s not a great deal of substance surrounding all that. It’s a fun movie, but not a great one.

45. The Three Caballeros (1944)

The Three Caballeros was the follow up to Saludos Amigos and another Disney package film. It's essentially a sequel to one of the shorts from Amigos (more on that in a moment) that sees Donald Duck receiving birthday gifts, that take the form of animated shorts, from friends in South America. The shorts are fine, and they at least have a related theme. But watching an animated duck lust after human women on a beach is just disconcerting, which is something that occurs multiple times throughout the film. You might learn something here, though, which is always worthwhile, as each short focuses on a different part of Central or South America.

44. Saludos Amigos (1942)

Saludos Amigos was the first Disney package film and it comes out the better for it. This is unique among these collections because in addition to the animated shorts, it includes a look at the animators who created them, in the form of documentary-style footage of Disney animators on a trip to Central and South America so that they can learn about the sorts of things they'll need to animate. This makes Amigos feel a bit more like a coherent feature than most of the other collections.

43. The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh (1977)

As the title implies, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is more a collection of stories than a single film, though there is enough connective tissue to make this feel like a movie. The Heffalumps and Woozles bit is likely what most people remember, if only for the sheer bizarreness of the segment, and from a purely creative standpoint, it is the highlight of the film. Beyond that, we have classic segments like "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day" and "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree" that have become classics in their own right.

42. The Rescuers Down Under (1990)

The Rescuers Down Under is often overlooked in Disney's canon, as the film was a somewhat surprising sequel to a movie that was a favorite to very few. It exceeds its predecessor by virtue of being beautifully animated, something that can't really be as easily said of the original. The film's setting of the Australian outback is something that's lovely to look at. While the story itself is about on par with the original, this movie does have the benefit of George C. Scott voicing a Disney villain, which means it can't be all bad.

41. The Jungle Book (1967)

The Jungle Book was the last animated Disney feature that Walt was involved with before his death. The movie started a sort of trilogy (which includes the Aristocats and Robin Hood) of animal-focused stories with a similar stable of voice actors and the use of a significant musical act in one of the voice roles. In this case, it was Louie Prima as King Louie. The Jungle Book is a solid story, and the film actually has one of the better soundtracks, as many Disney musicals are lucky to have a single breakout song, and The Jungle Book has three (Bear Necessities, I Wanna Be Like You, and Trust in Me) that have gone down in history.

40. Winnie The Pooh (2011)

The second Winnie the Pooh movie probably wasn't what people were expecting from Disney in 2011, which explains why it wasn't particularly successful, but the film is actually solid. It's silly, to be sure, with the entire plot revolving around a simple misunderstanding of language, but the silliness is part of the charm of Winnie the Pooh as a character, and the more recent film still captures this near perfectly. Add in a perfectly cast John Cleese as the narrator and the songwriting team behind Frozen all before we knew what "Let it Go" was, and this one is worth going back to see.

39. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)

Atlantis: The Lost Empire was an obvious attempt to try something very new, as the art style and the more action-adventure focus of the plot was not what the studio had been known for up to that point. The film's performance made it clear that this wasn't what audiences were looking for from Disney, but the film makes for an enjoyable enough pulp adventure in its own right. The action works in what is essentially Disney's version of an Indiana Jones movie, and one that's better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

38. Bolt (2008)

Bolt's premise is one of the odder ones here. A dog is the star of a TV show, but doesn't know that he doesn't really have superpowers. It's a silly set up, but the movie itself is really just a road trip with a handful of entertaining characters. While it doesn't quite reach the level of some of Disney's more recent films, there's more fun to be had here than you'd expect at first, and it's got surprising heart considering its off-the-wall setup.

37. The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad (1949)

The best of Disney's package films is clearly The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. The movie combines two stories, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Wind in the Willows. While this is clearly two separate stories crammed together, they work remarkably well as a unit, with the first being mostly upbeat, with surprising moments of darkness, and the latter being mostly dark with some surprising humor. The fact that the films contain two of the most famous voices ever, Basil Rathbone and Bing Crosby, certainly doesn't hurt. Each of these stories is a classic in its own right; together they're a joy.

36. Robin Hood (1973)

Disney in the 1970s was going through a bit of a rough patch, and the movies were not, overall, fantastic, but there's fun to be had with Robin Hood, even if a lot of the film's animation was recycled from The Jungle Book. This is the classic version of the tale, where Robin robs Prince John to give to the poor, only with animals playing the parts of the leads. Think of this as a prequel to Zootopia, as Robin Hood was a large part of the inspiration for the movie that came 40 years later.

35. Moana 2

Moana 2 is the rare Disney sequel that has allowed its main character to grow between films. Disney's animation has also grown, as the movie has some of the most beautiful scenes we've ever seen from Walt Disney Animation Studio. Unfortunately, without Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie's music suffers and the story, which was originally written as a TV series, has not survived the transition to a theatrical presentation well.

34. Treasure Planet (2002)

Treasure Planet is famous for being Disney's biggest animated flop. The movie was a failure as soon as it came out and Disney never tried to make it more than that. This is too bad because the movie isn't nearly as bad as its box office would imply. It has issues, sure. The Martin Short-voiced sidekick is one of the most annoying in the history of Disney, and little interesting is done with the Treasure Island-based plot, but the sci-fi animation is something different and unique for Disney and fans of swashbuckling adventure could certainly do worse.

33. Dumbo (1941)

Dumbo is a unique film in many ways, not the least of which is that the title character has no voice actor. This fact makes Dumbo one of the most sympathetic characters in all of Disney animation, he has a minimal character of his own, and the audience is forced to interpret his experience themselves. While the film is fairly short (barely over 70 minutes) in that time we see some creative animation in the form of the Pink Elephants on parade, as well as what might be the first of many truly tear-jerking Disney moments in "Baby Mine." Dumbo isn't without problems, however. "The Song of the Roustabouts" has not aged well and is more than a little uncomfortable to listen to today.

32. Fantasia 2000 (2000)

Fantasia was supposed to be a regular occurrence, being released in theaters every few years with minor changes each time. Unfortunately, the original film's overall lack of success prevented this from happening until the turn of the millennium. However, Fantasia 2000's failure means we're unlikely to see another, even though a new Fantasia has the potential to be amazing. The animated sequences are more hit or miss than the original, and the interstitial bits with celebrities doing the introductions are absolutely unbearable, even though some great talent is involved. Still, at its best moments, such as "Pines of Rome" and "The Firebird," it is everything great about Disney animation.

31. Alice In Wonderland (1951)

A lot of the early Disney features feel more like a series of loosely connected shorts than a single story. This is the case with Alice in Wonderland, though the idea works by virtue of the fact that the source material is little more than Alice stumbling into one bizarre situation after another. Walt Disney wanted to be sure that the "nonsense" of Lewis Carrol's original story was properly captured, and it's difficult to argue he didn't succeed. The movie is weird but in a good way.

30. The Emperor's New Groove (2000)

The Emperor's New Groove was originally going to be a very different movie and one wonders what things would have been like if the original version had come to be. Instead, we got what turned out to be Disney's most comedic animated film to date. Everything from the premise to the tone feels less like a Disney movie and more like screwball body swap comedy. The comedy duo of David Spade and John Goodman make it work, although the supporting performances of Eartha Kitt and Patrick Warburton are what put it over the top.

29. Tarzan (1999)

Disney often gets criticized for Disney-fying classic fairy tales, but the same is also true of the studio's version of Tarzan. The original text is... problematic. In many ways. But the animated version skirts those issues for a much more family-friendly adventure. The combination of hand-drawn and computer animation gives the action a life it likely would not have had otherwise and foreshadowed some of the computer-animated films to come. The Phil Collins soundtrack is used here to enhance the story rather than hinder it, as it did in Brother Bear.

28. The Great Mouse Detective (1986)

The Great Mouse Detective isn't the beginning of the Disney Renaissance, but it is the movie that allowed that rebirth to happen. Two of the film’s directors, John Musker and Ron Clements, were able to use their modest success here to get the job directing The Little Mermaid, and the rest is history. And, we do see the beginning of something magical here, as the first use of computers by Disney animation makes the Big Ben finale something special. Also, Vincent Price's turn as the villain is exactly as deliciously fun and you'd expect it to be.

27. Wish (2023)

A movie in the grand Disney tradition. A strong and determined heroine for a new generation, combined with a diabolical villain and absolutely beautiful animation come together to tell a story that, while it may not be anything new for Disney, hits all the familiar beats in a satisfying way. It's difficult not to get swept up in the adventure, or the catchy music.

26. Big Hero 6 (2014)

Comic book movies are more popular than they've ever been, and with Disney owning Marvel, it was only a matter of time before we got a superhero movie from the studio. Surprisingly, what we got was the little known, manga-inspired Big Hero 6. As a superhero origin story it's an acceptable enough movie. Unfortunately, it seems designed to give us sequels that we'll likely never get on the big screen. Most of the six heroes are little more than set dressing, which is too bad, because what we get of them seems more interesting than the main character, Hiro. Luckily, Scott Adsit's Baymax is there to save the day and make the movie an overall solid experience.

25. Raya And The Last Dragon (2021)

Raya and the Last Dragon was a movie that was swallowed, and largely forgotten thanks to the global pandemic, which is a crime, because it’s, without question, one of Disney’s best efforts. Raya has some of the best action animation this side of the Spider-Verse. It’s the only animated Disney film you could also class as a pure action movie, and it’s a title the film absolutely deserves.

24. Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Quite possibly the most modern Disney film, since everything takes place within the world of video games, Disney successfully made one of the best "video game movies" of all time with Wreck-It Ralph, mostly because it's not actually based on a real game. Each world we visit in the film is uniquely designed, from the 8-bit aesthetic of Fix-it Felix Jr to the bright and colorful, and far more modern, Sugar Rush. It makes you wish you could fire up your game console to play these games for real. John C. Reilly is the perfect voice for an oversized bad guy unhappy with his place in his world.

23. Cinderella (1950)

As one of the classic Disney princesses, Cinderella has a place among true Disney, well, royalty. Having said that, the film that brought her to life is a bit of a mixed bag. Much has been made about the fact that the princesses weren't necessarily the greatest characters when it came to depth or agency. The issue with Cinderella is that these problems probably could have been avoided if the feature didn't dedicate a significant portion of its runtime to the mice and the cat, meaning Cinderella is less of a lead character in her own movie. It's not the first time side characters will get too much exposure in Disney films, but it may be the most disappointing.

22. Frozen II (2019)

It was little surprise to anybody that the global blockbuster that was Frozen became one of the few Disney animated movies to get a sequel. And, it has to be said, in a lot of ways Frozen II meets the challenge. The plot is certainly the weak link, acting mostly as a delivery mechanism for the songs and the characters’ emotional journeys, but the songs are incredible and every character, from Elsa and Anna, to Kristof and even Olaf, go on incredibly emotional journeys. It’s rare to see an animated film handle so many characters so well.

21. Tangled (2010)

Tangled has a more pop-focused soundtrack that might not work for everybody, but it's got some fantastic music overall, including one of Disney's most underrated love songs in "I See the Light." It also showed how far Disney's computer animation had come at the time. Rapunzel's hair is a character unto itself, and the animation to bring it to life was no small task. Rapunzel's childlike innocence is infectious and it carries you through to the end. Tangled also has some of the best action sequences ever put on screen by Disney animation, and a villain who is unique in her ability to mentally manipulate, rather than physically intimidate.

20. Peter Pan (1953)

While Peter Pan is one of Disney's most iconic characters, the movie doesn't actually hold up as well as some of the studio's other classic stories. The use of the Native Americans generally, and their musical moment specifically, is one that hasn't aged well. The movie seems to assume you know the story of Pan already as it doesn't build any of the characters beyond the surface level. It's also not entirely clear who this movie is about. Is it about Peter, or is it about Wendy? Peter Pan is still a classic and kids will love it for generations, though there's not as much there for older children.

19. Zootopia (2016)

Leave it to Disney, somewhere among all the musicals and princess movies, to create one of the most compelling stories about the importance of diversity and acceptance that has been put on film. Zootopia may be one of the newer Disney animated films, but it has everything that makes them great. Strong characters, a compelling and fun story, and a message that is important to all audiences. It's as great a buddy cop movie as it is a parable, and the world has continued to provide more stories, as we’ve seen a series of Disney+ Zootopia shorts, and Zootopia 2 is also on the way.

18. Aladdin (1992)

There's not a lot to say about Aladdin that doesn't focus on the revolutionary performance of Robin William as the Genie. The comedian absolutely changed the way that voice acting talent is handled for all animated films. Only in an animated movie could Williams' rapid-fire, non-stop delivery truly come alive, as anything he could do, animators could draw. If that was all the movie had, however, Aladdin would be little more than a footnote, but it also includes a fantastic soundtrack by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, which makes it a truly beautiful experience.

17. 101 Dalmatians (1961)

Cruella de Vil may not be one of Disney's biggest villains, but her name is well known and with good reason. She steals every scene she's in in 101 Dalmatians. She's like a smaller scale Maleficent, as she's pure evil, but for no explained reason. Often this is an issue, but De Vil is so delicious that you find yourself charmed by her. The same can be said for the film as a whole, as 101 Dalmatians is undeniably charming. So many of Disney's films focus on animals as the protagonists, but this is one of the best.

16. Lilo & Stitch (2002)

While one of the title characters in Lilo & Stitch is a space alien, the film itself may be the most grounded in Disney's history. Music is important to the story, but it isn't a musical. The plot focuses on a pair of sisters who are just trying to get through life following the death of their parents. It's a heartfelt and emotional journey and one that many may have missed if they judged the movie by its marketing. Stitch is fine, but Lilo is who the movie is really about, and her story is a worthy one. This is when a smaller, more personal story from the studio really works.

15. Mulan (1998)

Mulan is a unique Disney film in many ways. It deals with an eastern myth rather than a western one, the heroine is the most proactive in Disney's history to this point in time, and while the film does include a romantic element, it’s not the driving force of the story. Disney had to change their own rules in order to include Mulan in the class of "Disney Princesses" and it's no wonder, because the character resonated with so many. This is their fighting princess, and Mulan will always be embraced if for that reason alone.

14. The Princess And The Frog (2009)

The final Disney Princess feature that consisted of hand-drawn animation, The Princess and the Frog, wasn't a massive hit when it debuted in theaters, which is too bad, because the film is actually pretty impressive. It balances dark elements with slapstick humor well. It's got a fantastic jazz soundtrack, and it's got one of Disney's most unique heroines. Maybe this is why the movie is finally getting a Disneyland ride. Tiana is a working-class woman chasing a simple dream. She's not looking for a prince; she wants to open her own business. Her simple goals could have been what turned some people off, but that's actually what makes the character, and the movie, special.

13. Encanto (2021)

What is there to say about Encanto that has not been said. It’s got an incredible cast of characters who are brought to life thanks to one of the most incredible soundtracks ever put on screen. But Mirabel’s story clearly touched people on a personal level. It’s that heart that makes Disney movies truly special, and this one wears it on its sleeve.

12. Frozen (2013)

There's a reason that Frozen became so insanely popular and it is, quite simply, that the movie is just that good. Also, "Let it Go" is just that great a song. The way it turns the traditional Disney princess tropes on their head without losing the underlying magic is perfect. Even the sidekick snowman is legitimately funny, something that could have gone drastically wrong in so many ways. Frozen doesn't break every mold, but it does fracture several, and it was a hint at what was to come with some of Disney's future movies.

11. The Little Mermaid (1989)

The Little Mermaid is the movie that ushered in Disney's Renaissance in the 1990s, which means it has a place in film history forever. The team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken brought Broadway to these movies in a way we had never seen before, and the influence of Ashman that began with The Little Mermaid is still felt in Disney musicals today. It’s beautifully animated and it has one of the absolute best Disney soundtracks ever created.

10. The Lion King (1994)

The Lion King is one of the most successful Disney animated films of all time. It's got a great villain, and a great villain song in Scar's "Be Prepared," and "Hakuna Matata" is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head, no matter how much you wish it would not. It's also got one of the most epic Disney openings of all time, which carries it through for quite a long way. It's got heartbreaking loss and heroic redemption. Disney didn't expect The Lion King to be the hit that it was, which just goes to show that sometimes they don't even know how good they can be.

9. The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1996)

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is three gargoyles away from being a perfect film, which is to say that if the three gargoyles weren't in it, it would be fantastic. Hunchback is the most mature film created by Disney animation. It's dark and violent, and deals with very adult themes. It's only when the comic relief shows up that things fall apart; the tone shift will give you whiplash. It's clear they were added to make the movie more kid-friendly, and it makes you wonder what could have been if they had just made a movie for an older audience. It's almost unbelievable that Disney actually made The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but thank god they did.

8. Lady And The Tramp (1955)

Lady and the Tramp doesn't get a great deal of time or attention in the grand scheme of Disney movies, but it's actually a remarkably solid film. Everything about it is lovely. It's beautifully animated entirely from a pet's point of view, and we rarely see humans above the knees. The characters are charming and the relationship between the titular leads is just one of the sweetest created by Disney. The Siamese Cat song, like many aspects of Disney, influenced by stereotypes and hits a sour note, but the characters exit the film as quickly as they enter and what’s left is surprisingly emotional.

7. Moana (2016)

Moana does so many things so well. It's beautifully animated, and has one of the best soundtracks of any Disney musical. In large part, this is due to the way that the film embraced Polynesian culture in its story and its music. Dwayne Johnson's turn as Maui wasn't music to the ears of everybody, but there's little argument that his performance of "You're Welcome" became the ear-worm of the film that many couldn't stop singing. It's got great action and the lead character is a much more nuanced and complex heroine than any that came before. Moana is a modern classic. It’s little surprise Disney is moving so fast to remake Moana in live-action.

6. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs made history when the film debuted at the end of 1937. Disney's first feature-length animated movie is every bit as special today as it was back then. With a modern eye, there are clearly elements that don't work as well as they could, like the story seemingly starting in the middle with a lot of text exposition rather than actually giving us character development, making Snow White less fleshed out than you'd like. However, as the template from which everything was built, it needs to receive its due.

5. Bambi (1942)

Disney has made countless films with animals as the primary characters, but usually, they're stylized and drawn in creative ways so they feel more like people. Bambi feels like you might be truly looking in on real animals in a forest. The movie will always be known for one scene alone, as the death of Bambi's mother is one of the most heartbreaking moments in film history, leading generations of children to tears. Everything else about it is equally beautiful, and this film deserves its place in film history.

4. Pinocchio (1940)

Disney's second feature holds up remarkably well to a modern viewing. It's got a compelling and emotional story, memorable songs (including the one that went on to become the theme song for all of Disney), and great characters. In many ways, Pinocchio could be made today, and it's unlikely a great deal would even change. Jiminy Cricket, with his one-liners and audience asides, feels like an inspiration for Robin Williams’ Genie decades later. Pinocchio has everything you'd expect from a Disney animated feature today, which makes the fact that it was only the studio's second film remarkable.

3. Sleeping Beauty (1959)

Of all the early Disney Princess movies, Sleeping Beauty is by far the standout. Both Aurora and Prince Philip are actual characters, and while the film's brief runtime doesn't exactly let them breathe as much as you might like, we at least get to know them. It also has one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of Disney's villains in Maleficent. Sleeping Beauty was, in many ways, the end of an era for Disney, as we didn't see another storybook princess movie for 40 years. Everything the fimmakers had learned was on display here.

2. Beauty And The Beast (1991)

If Sleeping Beauty was the culmination of Disney's first great era, Beauty and the Beast was the result of an additional four decades of learning how to tell stories. There's a reason this became the first animated film nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. The characters feel more real than any that have come before, and the music is absolute perfection. Hand drawn animation assisted with computers has also been taken to a new level here, making the classic ballroom scene a moment that nobody will forget.

1. Fantasia (1940)

Fantasia was a financial bomb when it was first released, but over the decades the film has come to be appreciated for the artistic achievement that it is. Animation is put together with music in a way that elevates both art forms. This was the movie that made it clear that cartoons weren't simply for kids. While it may not be a film with a narrative or deep characters, it shows Disney animation at its absolute greatest, and it doesn't lack an emotional punch, as the best music, as well as the best animation, can always make you feel something.

With Zootopia 2, Frozen 3, and an as-yet-unnamed original animated story on the slate of upcoming Disney movies, there is a lot to look forward to when it comes to the future of Disney animation. Time will tell where these endeavors fit among the best films of all time.

When you rewatch Wreck-It Ralph, you realize that director Rich Moore really chose a perfect song to start the end credits. After all, "When Can I See You Again?" is the exact question that fans have been constantly asking about Ralph, Vanellope, and the other amazing characters the 2012 movie introduced. As we learned a little while ago, the answer is November 2018 - and today we got our first look at what we can expect from Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2.

As part of the first day activities for Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, the studio held its big animation panel. While showcasing the new projects from both Walt Disney Animation and Pixar, the presentation also delivered our first look at Wreck-It Ralph 2, and if the footage is any indication, we should be in for a fantastic treat earlier this year. Not only did the footage introduced a brand new character to the video game world, but also establishes the movie as the first to really take full advantage of all the amazing brands and franchises that currently exist under the Walt Disney Studios umbrella.

The footage (which featured some very rough animation to start) began with our first look at Yesss (voiced by Taraji P. Henson), who is an algorithm from a trend-making site called Buzzaholic, and is essentially responsible for causing trends (evidenced in her hair and clothing style, which is constantly shifting. Having been transported from Litwak's Arcade to the internet, Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) employ her help in an attempt to go viral (or "Virus," as Ralph accidentally puts it). While riding around in a limo, Yesss explains that humans tend to cluster in like-minded groups, and that there are a bunch of different spheres of interest from superheroes to cartoons to sci-fi and much, much more. And the best place to go to get their attention? None other than OhMyDisney.com.

Ralph, Vanellope and Yesss arrive at the website, which is drawn like a hyper-advanced theme park where everything Disney comes alive: the Millennium Falcon soars through the sky, Iron Man takes off, and we even get to see a bit of interaction between Ralph and Tinkerbell (he gives her the nickname "Stinker Stomp," which she responds to with some aggressively-thrown fairy dust). As the group walks through the vast area, we see a wide variety of activities going on, including a "Marvel Yourself" device where visitors literally transform themselves into superheroes (or Stan Lee); and a section where you can press all of the many, many buttons on Buzz Lightyear's armor (something that Buzz clearly doesn't love). The movie even takes a moment to poke fun at some of the more crazed Disney fans -- specifically depicting with a little girl who goes completely nuts for Tsum Tsums, a.k.a. "furry sausages with faces." Vanellope is completely bewildered by the whole thing, but Yesss simply tells her, 'Don't overthink it; they're huge."

Its from there, however, that the main event truly starts, as crowds gather to see the parade of classic Disney Princesses -- who are guarded by Stormtroopers and wave to their fans as they enter their domicile. Seeing these characters immediately excites Vanellope (who you may remember is a princess herself), and she begs for the chance to go and mess with them. It's a request that's denied by both Ralph and Yesss, but the rejection only makes her want to do it more. As Yesss walks off and Ralph follows, Vanellope decides to take some initiative and uses her glitch abilities to sneak past the guards and into the Princess area.

As the footage changes to much more completed-looking animation, Vanellope's entrance gets quite the negative reception, as the famed Disney Princesses prepare to attack. Cinderella, for example, smashes her glass slipper and prepares to use it like a broken bottle. In hopes of getting everyone to calm down, Vanellope reveals herself as a princess too -- and while she doesn't have quite the same notably messed up experiences as some of her new companions, including magic curses and kidnappings, she does have one key similarity: people assume her problems all got solved because some big strong man showed up. It's after this revelation that all of the women accept the diminutive video game character, and what's more, they admire her choice to wear super relaxing clothes instead of formal wear.

After a quick cut, all of the princesses are lounging around in T-shirts and sweats, and declare Vanellope as the queen of comfort. Ariel from The Little Mermaid is particularly happy to the point that she's ready to sing about her love of "shirts," but the others quiet her down before she can get too carried away. As they continue to talk, the Princesses all begin to reveal that they are hardly the perfect individuals they appear to be, and each have their own individual flaws. Snow White is nearly blind without her glasses (a fun reference to the character's occasional odd arm movements in her classic 1937 movie); Jasmine from Aladdin is actually allergic to cats (including her tiger, Rajah); and Merida can barely be understood (which the ladies blame on the fact that she's "from the other studio.") Together they realize how boring it would be if everyone were just the same, and Vanellope expresses that the talk has really helped her in the conflict she's currently having with her friends).

The conversation is interrupted by none other than C-3PO, who comes in to the room to inform the ladies that they have just five minutes until show time. At first they make fun of him by calling him R2-D2, but after trying to spare his feelings, dismiss him by calling him BB-8 (leaving C-3PO to wander out the door discussing how much he finds himself missing his time with Mr. Solo). Vanellope recognizes that it's time for her to leave, and notes that she is "so in love with you guys, it's ridiculous." As her final goodbye move, she tries to pet Meeko, Pocahotas' raccoon friend, but instead just gets hissed and swiped at.

I will admit that my initial feeling about the Wreck-It Ralph 2 footage was that it was a bit too heavy-handed in its Disney extreme-ness and the celebration of its own brand - but by the time it was over I found myself impressed and excited. Not only is it a lot of fun to see the studio legitimately making fun of itself, but it's also impossible not to appreciate the effort that went into collecting a bunch of the of the princess voice actors and getting them to all reprise their roles. It ultimately reminded me a lot of The LEGO Movie on a creative level, and considering this is just one small section of the internet that Ralph and Vanellope are exploring, I can't wait to see what the rest of the film has to offer.

Given that Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 isn't set to come out until November 21, 2018, we still have a little while to wait before we actually get to see the finished product -- but our anticipation levels are now through the roof. In the realm of geek culture, few actors have become more cherished than Alan Tudyk. The actor has appeared in countless beloved franchises, and his voice has defined many legendary projects. In fact, Tudyk recently sat down and ran through some of his most iconic silver screen voices of all time, and the video is an absolute treat for Tudyk fans all over the world.

As you can very clearly see from that video, Alan Tudyk has a long history as a voice actor, and he has lent his impressive vocal chops to some of the most popular Disney movies of the few years. From King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph to Duke of Weselton from Frozen, and Duke Weasleton in Zootopia, the guy has very clearly made the rounds and become part of Disney history.

Then, of course, we have his most recent foray into the world of Disney with his fan-favorite portrayal of Imperial droid K-2SO during the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Unlike the characters that Alan Tudyk has voiced for Disney, Kaytoo is a stone cold killer, as well as a complete and utter badass. Sadly, as those of you who have seen Rogue One already know, we likely won't get a chance to see much more of this awesome droid following the events of the film.

Having said that, the Empire would've had to get the voice for Kaytoo from somewhere. Even if we never get a chance to see the crew from Rogue One again, our hope remains incredibly high that we will still get to hear his lovely voice on another droid at some point. We can dream, can't we?

Of course, while we're on the topic of Alan Tudyk, we need to address the sheer iconography of his live-action filmography as well. The guy has been in countless treasured projects, such as Joss Whedon's Firefly, A Knight's Tale, as well as cult classic comedies like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Knocked Up, and Dodgeball. His resume is the envy of anyone in Hollywood, and we can't wait to see what he does next.

Try as he might, Ralph (John C. Reilly) most certainly didn't wreck Wreck-It Ralph. Instead, the incredibly inventive Walt Disney Animation feature received an Oscar nomination back in 2012 as it wracked up $471 million in global grosses. A sequel was inevitable, and now we know what Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be about. Check out this cool promo vid, an app suggesting that Ralph's about to take the internet by storm:

Walt Disney held its official panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, and in addition to screening Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in its entirety (see the reactions to that sequel right here), the studio dropped details about Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Yep, that will be the title of the new movie, directed by original Ralph helmer Rich Moore and screenwriter Phil Johnston. The studio also confirmed that in addition to John C. Reilly as the title character and Sarah Silverman as Vanellope, Wreck-It Ralph 2 will see the return of Jane Lynch and Jack McBrayer. As you can probably tell by the title, the sequel will set Ralph loose on the Web. Specific details beyond that are limited, but John Moore elaborated a bit about how the Internet will give them creators a much larger playing field when he said, in an official Disney release:

As you will recall, 2012's Wreck-It Ralph focused on the characters in a Donkey Kong-esque video game who were eventually able to break free of the confines of their stand-up arcade consoles and explore rival games. Ralph (John C. Reilly) ends up on an adventure in Sugar Rush, a go-kart game that is being controlled by the evil King Candy (Alan Tudyk). By the end of the movie, Ralph had proven to everyone that he wasn't the stereotypical bad guy.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits U.S. theaters on March 9, 2018. Knowing what we know about the original movie, and how popular it turned out to be, we expect the sequel to massively improve on that success, creating yet another hit for Disney Animation. That arm of the studio has been on a roll lately, with Moana and Zootopia being a stellar one-two punch in 2016. There are no movies on the slate for Disney Animation until Wreck-It Ralph 2, but I have a feeling this one will be worth the wait.

Disney songs are some of the most popular in the history of film. There are countless tunes that you still remember the words to today. However, over the decades, Disney has also produced some fairly unusual songs. There are so many Disney songs that we grew up with that we'll never forget, but there are also quite a few of songs that you have likely forgotten, or possibly even mentally blocked out.

These aren't necessarily bad songs. Some of them are quite good, while others are just strange. Still, they all qualify as songs you've likely forgotten exist, which is sad, because there's absolutely something memorable about each of them.

'Wreck-It, Wreck-It Ralph' - Wreck-It Ralph

It's not surprising if you missed this tune as it plays over the closing credits of Wreck-It Ralph after the Owl City tune "When Can I see You Again?" which will one day go on a separate list of Disney Songs I've Had Stuck In My Head For At Least Five Years. "Wreck-It, Wreck-It Ralph" is a song about the "classic" arcade game of the film. What makes this game special though is that's performed by Buckner & Garcia, the same duo responsible for another video game based hit song, 1982's "Pac-Man Fever." The song does everything to convince you it was actually recorded 30 years ago.

'The Siamese Cat Song' - Lady And The Tramp

This one is just...awkward. Lady and the Tramp just isn't one of the Disney films that has remained a popular and well-loved classic over the years, beyond the pasta scene, anyway. The Siamese Cat song consists of two cats singing with terrible Asian accents, who are also trying to end the life of a pet fish for their lunch before moving on to steal a baby's milk. This one has not aged well, and may be part of the reason Disney doesn't talk about this movie much anymore. Everybody, just remember the dog with a meatball on his nose and move on, ok?

'The World's Greatest Criminal Mind' - The Great Mouse Detective

Vincent Price once sang a Disney song. I could really leave this entry right there and the point would be made. There's more to it, however, because the song is actually pretty good. You can hear Price's pure joy at performing this song in ever line. It's a gloriously fun tune from a seriously underrated Disney movie. If you have never seen The Great Mouse Detective, go do so. You'll enjoy Vincent Price's performance as villain Ratigan if nothing else. It's a shame they weren't able to get Price to voice a character in a bigger movie, he could have been one of the all-time greats.

'One Last Hope' - Hercules

Danny DeVito once sang a Disney song. That is a thing that happened. However, while the random Vincent Price tune mentioned a minute ago is actually an entertaining song, "One Last Hope" from Hercules is...not. It's just not. It's maybe not DeVito's fault, the song doesn't do him any favors. It's probably not his key, assuming he has one, but while Disney can do a pretty good job of making mediocre voices sound good, that doesn't happen here. Hercules is pretty much a disaster of a movie from start to finish and while it has some good points worthy of praise, this song is not one of them.

'I Thought I Lost You' - Bolt

Like Wreck-It Ralph, Bolt is not a musical, and as such, the only song is over the closing credits, but you can count on Disney to close off any movie with a catchy pop tune. On its surface, there's nothing that strange about "I Thought I Lost You" at first glance It's your standard Disney pop. What makes this one worthy of the list is the oddness of the duet, Miley Cyrus and John Travolta. Granted this is 2008 Miley Cyrus, so we haven't quite reached swinging naked on a wrecking ball level Miley, but the fact that Disney was able to get the star of Grease to sing with their (then) pop princess is a fascinating thing to behold.

'Trust In Me' - The Jungle Book

It's possible that you haven't forgotten this one entirely, as it was played over the closing credits of the live-action remake of The Jungle Book by Scarlett Johansson. One of the interesting things that they did in that film was change the gender of the snake Kaa from male to female. This song was probably the reason they did that. "Trust in Me" is a song of seduction. There's really no way to not look at the song that way. Even when it's being sung by an animated snake to a hypnotized boy, there's an element of straight-up creepiness in this one.

'I Saw A Dragon' - Pete's Dragon

The 70s were weird. When Disney decided to remake Pete's Dragon they decided to not do it as a musical and that was probably for the best. However, it meant that we were all robbed of what we're sure would have a brilliant musical number consisting of Karl Urban singing about seeing a dragon while appearing three sheets to the wind. Mickey Rooney, who plays the town drunk in the original, tries to convince a bar full of townspeople of the monster he saw. It's absolutely bonkers but I'd by lying if I said it wasn't also fun.

'Once Upon A Time In New York City' - Oliver & Company

If we're being honest, the entire soundtrack to Oliver & Company could go on this list. Modern Disney musicals have always an element of pop music to them, but Oliver & Company is more specifically a rock musical. If you remember this movie's music at all it's probably because Billy Joel voices one of the characters and provides a song. However, here we're spotlighting the film's opening song. "Once Upon A Time In New York City" is sung by Huey Lewis and if that's not enough to make this one odd, the lyrics were written by Howard Ashman. Yes, the same guy who won Oscars for music from The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast got his start at Disney writing for a Disney rock musical based on Oliver Twist.

'You Might Think' - Cars 2

You can't separate music and driving, which may the reason that the Cars movies have some of the best soundtracks among all of Pixar's productions. While Cars 2 is one of the studio's rare misses when it comes to movies, the music is still top notch. Since you don't remember the movie you probably don't remember that the film included a cover of The Cars "You Might Think" that was done by who might be literally the best band ever chosen for such a task, Weezer. They're so perfect that you might not have realized you were listening to a cover.

Disney's animation studio has been churning out hits for decades. Few studios have a history to pull from like they do. In recent years it has become common for the studio to throw nods to their previous work into their newest feature film. Moana is no different. There are several cool easter eggs, some obvious, and some less so, throughout the latest Disney movie. There are likely even more that we saw, but here are the ones that we spotted on our viewing.

Sven From Frozen

While Frozen was one of the biggest hits that Disney has ever seen, poor Sven the reindeer got very little of that love. In an apparent attempt to make up for this oversight, he's got the briefest of cameos in Moana. When Maui retrieves his magic fish hook in the middle of the film, he attempts to use it to transform. Unfortunately, being out of practice, it doesn't go too well. He begins to morph into one creature after another without control. One of them is clearly Sven, who looks awfully confused for showing up in such an odd spot.

Olaf

As unlikely as it would be for a snowman to make an appearance in a movie that takes place in a tropical climate, we know that Olaf was very curious about warm weather. Unfortunately for him, it went about as well as can be expected. When Moana is loading up her boat with food prior to leaving the island, she dumps a load of fruit and coconuts into the hold, and on top of them all is one, single, carrot. It's the same carrot that makes up Olaf's nose, about the only part of him that would survive on the island.

Flounder

The directors of Moana, Ron Clements and John Musker, were also the minds behind The Little Mermaid. For that reason, it's hardly surprising that there would be a couple references to that classic film. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker have said that Ariel's buddy Flounder shows up at one point. We're pretty sure we saw him near the end of Maui's song "You're Welcome." There are a lot of 2D fish flying around the screen, and we think he's in there, but we could be wrong. Let us know in the comments if we're crazy.

Baymax

You'd think Baymax from Big Hero 6 would be easy to spot, as he's a fairly large guy. However, in Moana he's actually much smaller. When Moana and Maui are attacked by the kakamora, among the faces of coconut pirates you can see one that has a simple white face with two black eyes connected by a line between them. It's Baymax's eyes stuck to the front of a coconut. We're pretty sure this one isn't interested in giving you medical attention, though.

Wreck-It Ralph

Following two animated features this year, Disney will be taking 2017 off to prep for another big year in 2018. This means that the next movie from the studio will be the sequel to Wreck-It Ralph. It's likely this fact that explains his appearance during the credits of Moana. While most of the images we see are artistic renditions of sea life, the last image we see shows a similarly drawn version of Ralph, with his biceps flexed. This would appear to be the Disney version of "James Bond Will Return."

Sebastian

The second Little Mermaid reference comes once the credits are over. An end credits sequence reveals that Tamatoa has spent the second half of the film waiting for somebody to come help him off his back. He admonishes the audience for their lack of assistance and laments that if his name were Sebastian and if he had a Jamaican accent, everybody would be much more willing to help him out. We can't deny that's probably true.

There's also a second Sebastian reference, sort of. The film's credits include a list of all the babies born during the film's production. One of those is a baby named Sebastian. It is a Little Mermaid reference because Sebastian is the son of Lin-Manuel Miranda, who named his child after the crab from the movie. Now he's involved in the live action remake of the same movie.

Yesterday, Disney Animation Studios announced an announcement. We knew something big was on the way, and now we know exactly how big. Today Disney Animation Studios announced the long-rumored sequel to Wreck-it Ralph. The sequel is really coming, and it's less than two years away.

In a live video broadcast on Facebook, Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia director Rich Moore introduced his co-director on a brand new project, Phil Johnson. While the two began to discuss the new project, John C. Reilly arrived on the scene in a pair of giant foam hands, looking for almond milk. Upon realizing that they were all live on the internet we got to the actual announcement. Reilly joked that he had already announced Wreck-It Ralph 2 previously, but they gave him the honor of making the official announcement, which included the release date of March 9, 2018. Reilly then got ready to divulge some details about what the film would be about, before the video feed mysteriously cut out.

While we know very little about what the plot of Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be about, a new image on Disney's Facebook page may give us some indications.

First and foremost, in addition to John C. Reilly's Ralph, we see Sarah Silverman's Vanellope Von Schweetz, so we know that she'll be making a return in the sequel as well. In addition, the background of the image gives us multiple parodies of various websites, like Amazing, but complete with Amazon.com arrow, as well as LubHub. Co-Director Phil Johnson confirmed in a press release that the new film will be set in the world of the internet, due to its essentially limitless possibilities.

But beyond that, we get to start speculating. The first Wreck-It Ralph already presented the idea of a network of video games. In that film, all of the characters could travel between arcade machines via their power cables and associated surge protector. Somehow it appears our characters will be going online. Will Wreck-It Ralph get ported to smartphones, or will he be a new character in the latest MOBA? Actually, can we get a Disney MOBA with Ralph as a champion? That needs to happen.

We're super excited over here to see a sequel to one of our favorite Disney movies in recent memory. Now, we just need to confirm that Jack McBrayer and the rest of the crew will also be back. Are you looking forward to Wreck-It Ralph 2?

In 2012, Wreck-It Ralph was the breath of fresh air that Disney needed to prove that they weren't merely just Pixar's nesting grounds. But even good movies have their fair share of problems, and there's no better way to point them out than with a classic Honest Trailer. Prepare to fight in the video below.

Screen Junkies' YouTube channel released their channel's latest cinematic skewering, and with Wreck-It Ralph in the cross-hairs, not even everyone's favorite Donkey Kong substitute is safe from some good natured ribbing. Of course, the off-brand video game characters are just the beginning of the shots taken against the video game world's equivalent of Toy Story, and all bets are off once the video starts digging into the more contentious parts of Wreck-It Ralph's story.

As if pointing out that arcades are a thing of the past wasn't enough of a downer, the point is raised that the existence of a video game character is pretty grim in the way it's depicted in Wreck-It Ralph. In particular, the games that simulate combat look like they're nothing more than an exercise in nihilism, considering every day is another chance to possibly die on the battlefield. Of course, this just means that the next reset will being you back, ready to die and reset yet again. At least with Toy Story, the toys didn't have to respawn to carry out a somewhat normal life.

On a lighter, but just as interesting note, when it comes to Wreck-It Ralph's worldview, another interesting thing to point out is the predominant references to candy and sweets for the latter half of the film. While all of the gags in the world of Sugar Rush are pretty funny in the context of Ralph being a fish out of water, most of the latter half of the film's plot-line focuses on food references. References that must have cost pretty pennies that could have, according to Screen Junkies, gone towards obtaining the rights for Donkey Kong, Master Chief, and Mario – rather than craft a fictional trio that easily served the same functions.

Despite the rather grim outlook that Wreck-It Ralph takes on the issues video game characters, and copyright law, force us to think about, the film obviously manages to forget about said concerns. Using the power of laughter, it turns what could be such dreadful ground into heartwarming lesson fodder that'll leave you with a smile a mile wide. In fact, one has to wonder what sort of lessons the first film can teach the crew behind the promised sequel, as Wreck-It Ralph 2 is currently being written and plotted out for future release.

If the powers that be are smart like The Russo Brothers, they'll learn a lesson or two from this Honest Trailer and create a sequel that, at the very least, addresses the issues of the first film. Though if the rumored fighting tournament idea is still in play, they may have already done so. Only time, and an infinite supply of arcade tokens, will tell.

We’re not sure if you’ve heard yet, but Zootopia is kind of a big deal. In all of two weekends it’s the second biggest movie of the year, and with the strong word of mouth the film is seeing, we don’t expect it will go anywhere anytime soon. As is the case with any movie that is both financially profitable for the studio and popular among fans, the talk of a potential sequel is already happening.

We are entirely in support of the sequel talk. Zootopia is great, and we hope we see it again. But here’s the thing. There are lots of Disney movies that deserve sequels, and while fast-tracking a live-action movie can make sequels happen comparatively quickly, there’s only so much you can do to make an animated feature happen faster. Pushing Zootopia to the front of the line will only delay the other Disney followups we want to see. Here are ten Disney sequels that have to happen before Zootopia 2.

Wreck-It Ralph

We’ll start with the one that appears most likely for a sequel. While a follow-up to 2012’s video game focused Wreck-It Ralph is not officially on Disney’s announced slate of upcoming films, we’ve heard from a reliable source, John C. Riley, the voice of Ralph himself, that it is happening. We’re hoping to hear more on this one sooner rather than later, and we also hope that all of the old characters come back. As somebody who can rock a pretty decent game of Fix-It Felix Jr., this one better get to it.

Tarzan

While Tarzan is probably not on the top of anybody’s favorite Disney list, we recommended that you should give it another look. It’s a solid movie and the subject matter is tailor-made for sequels. Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote a metric ton of Tarzan novels. We know the original Disney film was barely based on any of Burroughs actual work, but there are plenty more books to barely base a Tarzan sequel on. Yes, we know they already made sequels. We’ll get to that.

Fantasia

I’m going to beat the Fantasia drum until somebody finally hears me. When the first film was released in 1940 it was supposed to be the first in a regular schedule of Fantasia theatrical spectacles. Every few years a new version would come out, with a few of the shorts replaced with new offerings, over and over again. Unfortunately, because your grandparents didn’t go see it in theaters, we didn’t get a new Fantasia until 2000. Then that one bombed. Let’s not wait another 60 years for a new Fantasia. Let’s do it now.

Ratatouille

Why doesn’t anybody give any love to Ratatouille? Stuck between Cars and Wall-E this delightful flm tends to get forgotten. Cars has already had one sequel, and it will see another, while Wall-E is damn near perfect and should never be touched. Seriously, we're not savages. Hoever, we’d happily spend another couple hours with Remy the rat, as voiced by Patton Oswalt. Oswalt is hilarious, and we love great animated food almost as much as we love the real stuff.

Tangled

While we will see Tangled again, it will be on the small screen next time. This will keep us satiated for a while, but at some point we’ll need to see Rapunzel and Flynn properly, on the big screen, again. They’re one of the most dynamic pairs in Disney history and we loved their first adventure as much as any of the Mouse House's recent films. Add in Maximus and Pascal and really you need the big screen to contain them all. We're pretty sure Rapunzel's frying pan could take out Elsa's snow power any day of the week.

Big Hero 6

Big Hero 6 was a superhero origin story where a super team comes together. Now that the team has been assembled, it's time for them to go on some new adventures. Yes, much like Tangled, the plan is to continue Big Hero 6 as a series. The problem with that plan is that Big Hero 6 isn’t Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it’s the damn The Avengers. We need a big screen superhero franchise that’s accessible to the younger audience and that will also appeal to adults.

Bolt

Speaking of superheroes, where’s the sequel to Bolt? If we’re being honest, we’d love to see a movie that actually takes place in the TV universe that the film creates, but there are solid stories which could be told in the "real" world as well. How has life as a "normal" dog actually affected Bolt? We’d love to learn more. Not to mention that Mittens and Rhino are two of the most unappreciated Disney sidekicks. If nothing else they should get a movie. Can you say spinoff?

The Lion King

Much like the earlier mentioned Tarzan, we know that The Lion King has already seen sequels. They were not good. They were really not good. Really, really not good. And this is the freaking Lion King. It is, without argument, one of the greatest animated films ever made. It deserves a proper sequel where they hire a real writer and use one of their major animation teams. Imagine what kind of a sequel they could make if they actually tried.

Lilo & Stitch

Another great movie that got some embarrassing sequels, Lilo & Stitch was a unique story for a number of reasons. The Hawaiian setting was a different sort of location for a Disney film, and it had a more diverse cast of characters than usual. It was a sci-fi story, which is a place Disney animation rarely goes, and somehow it was able to mix Elvis music in without anything feeling out of place. This is another movie that could do something special if they put their top teams on it and actually spent the money to make the animation high quality. Maybe something a little more science fiction heavy, just for a change of pace.

Inside Out

While we would hesitate to jump all over a sequel on this near perfect film, the ending of the first one set up additional chapters perfectly with the "puberty" button. Imagine the difficulty that the emotions will have in keeping Riley under control during the emotional and biochemical mess that is puberty. The conflict writes itself, and much like the original Inside Out, it’s a story that nearly everybody watching will be able to relate to. And the little kids will get it when they rewatch it later.

Back in 2012, Walt Disney Animation Studios had a big hit on their hands with Wreck-It Ralph, which went on to earn more than $471 million worldwide. A sequel has been talked about ever since, and though star John C. Reilly announced he has signed on for Wreck-It Ralph 2 back in July, another star, Jack McBrayer, is a bit confused about his status on the project.

Screen Rant caught up with the former 30 Rock star to talk about his latest movie, the horror comedy Cooties, and asked him about reprising his role as Fix-It Felix. When asked how much he knows about the upcoming sequel, McBrayer said:

To be sure, he’s playing coy to some extent, but it doesn’t sound like he knows much, if anything, about Wreck-It Ralph 2 at this stage. Later on, when asked if Felix plays into the story at all, McBrayer remarks how awkward it would be if the character has somehow been written out of this world.

When a small arcade closes for the night, the real action of Wreck-It Ralph is just beginning. Free from their duties at what amounts to day jobs, the various video game characters roam between consoles and have a rich outside life that includes friends, relationships, and apartments, and resembles your average normal life. In the middle of all of this is Wreck-It Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly), the Donkey Kong-esque villain of Fix-It Felix, Jr. Dealing with the emotional toll of playing a bad guy is taxing, so Ralph tries to land a gig in a popular new first-person shooter, leaving his own game in the lurch and in danger of being unplugged—unplugged games leave their characters homeless. To prevent this, Felix goes in search of Ralph, who is on an adventure of his own.

As he’s a key part of the story and the movie, it would indeed be weird if Felix doesn’t show up in Wreck-It Ralph 2. Things have definitely changed by the end of the movie, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where he isn’t a part of the action.

For his part, McBrayer doesn’t seem too worried, as he’s well aware that animated movies like this tend to take years to come together. Still, he implores the interviewer that, if she hears anything about the film, to let him know. He does, after all, have bills to pay.

There’s no word on when we might see Wreck-It Ralph 2 materialize or what it will be about, but director Rich Moore will reportedly be back. He even mentioned an idea he had where Ralph encounters multiple versions of himself from sequel, spinoffs, and what have you, which could be a fun way to play the sequel.

While there has been talk of a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph ever since the first one smashed box office records, it’s been a little while since we’ve heard anything about it. That has now changed. We’ve received some confirmation about Wreck-It Ralph 2 from the best possible source, Ralph himself, John C. Reilly.

Well, we got it from this tweet, because we’re not in Ireland.

Penny Hart is a producer on the Irish radio program RTE Arena, on which John C. Reiley was recently a guest. On the show he confirmed that he has officially signed on to voice the video game villain turned hero for a sequel. While we had heard a year ago that the Wreck-It Ralph 2 was being written we’ve heard essentially nothing since then, so it’s good to know that the follow up is moving forward. It looks like composer Henry Jackman and director Rich Moore will also be back for another game.

A new movie will give the filmmakers new opportunities to fill the screen with even more cameos from famous video game characters. Moore previously stated he would like to include characters as diverse as the Angry Birds and Mario, who he tried to get into the first movie but wasn’t able to for a number of reasons. The first film saw guest spots from everybody from Q-Bert to Street Fighter to Root Beer Tapper, so really anything is possible in a sequel as long as they can make the deal.

While we don’t know yet what Wreck-It 2 will be about the director has mentioned one idea, which has Ralph confront multiple versions of himself, since one would assume Ralph’s game has been popular through the decades and has been ported, spun-off, and rebooted through the years, potentially creating multiple Ralphs. Its certainly a fitting idea for a sequel.

The next task will be to see if the co-stars from the first movie will also return. As great as Riley was in the film his supporting cast of Jane Lynch, Sarah Silverman, and Jack McBrayer were a big part of what made the original so good. We hope to get all the old characters back along with a whole bunch of new ones. We have no idea how long the wait will be before Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits theaters, but we can't wait to drop another quarter in Fix-It Felix Jr.

Thanks to its successful theatrical release last fall, many movie-goers have seen, enjoyed and devoured Big Hero 6. The Marvel and Disney animated hit was met with rapturous reviews and an impressive box office total. But despite its popularity there appears to be one little Easter Egg that slipped through the cracks - and it involves one of Wreck-It Ralph’s most surprisingly hilarious characters. See if you can spot him below:

Good old Saitine. How could anyone have missed his big beautiful bulging red frame? Alongside Ralph, Shinobi, Bowser, Dr. Robotnik, Clyde and Cyborg, Saitine was a member of Wreck It Ralph’s villains support group, otherwise known as "Bad-Anon." Alongside his cohorts, Saitine declared with gusto, "I’m bad, and that’s good. I will never be good, and that’s not bad. There’s no one I’d rather be, than me." For comparison purposes, you can spot the character in the image below:

Kudos to the Imgur user DrunkenTenshi for spotting the character and then posting his findings to the website. And he was quite boastful about his discovery, writing, "My wife just found Saitine from Wreck-It Ralph in the background of Big Hero 6. She couldn’t find it anywhere else online so she asked me to post it here." He then finished with the delightful final line of "… Way better than finding Olaf."

This is a tad harsh, given that there are several deftly hidden Frozen Easter Eggs hidden within Big Hero 6. Not only is there a statue of Prince Hans that gets smashed to smithereens, Olaf the Snowman is also hidden in the midst of San Fransokyo (which is still the greatest fake city ever named). There’s even a tip of the hat to the city that Frozen’s characters call home too.

There are numerous hidden nuggets and references to Disney and its vast cannon of work dotted throughout Big Hero 6. In fact the boys over at Film Obsession were able to bring together a rather engrossing and comprehensive look at all of these Easter Eggs, which you can view in all of its glory below.

Not only does this video showcase the film's nods to Disney’s short film Feast,, but it also features Big Hero 6's Chicken Little and Wreck It Ralph billboards, and, of course, its wonderful Stan Lee cameo that saw the Marvel icon play Fred’s dad.

Following Big Hero 6’s success, there has been speculation that a sequel will be ordered, with the film’s directors, Don Hall and Chris Williams, admitting that Disney have given them free reign to work on a follow-up. It’s unclear at this point if it will ever happen, but surely it would open up the doors to a whole lot more Easter Eggs.

Product placement has become an unfortunately big part of modern studio filmmaking, but there are some ads in movies that we can still appreciate: the fake ones. Rather than actually trying to tell us something, they merely exist as a fun gag or even sometimes as a plot device. And now you can see a whole bunch of them mashed together in this fantastic new supercut.

Created by the good folks over at Screen Junkies, this new video brings together clips from more than 30 different movies, all advertising some kind of strange in-movie product. The selections are all over the map and come from all different genres - and like with most supercuts, half of the fun is trying to figure out what movies the clips come from. Thanks to the video's YouTube description, you can match all of your guesses against the full list of movies in order:

Anyone else find it kind of strange that not a single one of these movies was made before 1980? This isn't a gag that was only created in the last 34 years, right?

Not all of these clips are strictly "Fake Ads in Movies," as the Prometheus portion was actually part of the film's marketing campaign and the Punch Drunk Love example is from the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed short film Mattress Man Commercial, but that doesn't undercut how enjoy able this video is. After all, it reminded me that UHF exists, and while it does cut down the Spatula City commercial quite a bit, that just led me to watching it in full on another YouTube page:

Rich Moore’s animated adventure comedy Wreck-It Ralph introduced audiences to a new brand of anti-hero – an ostracized villain in a popular arcade game who felt misunderstood and pigeonholed by his role in a larger story. He wanted to change his stripes. But there were so many places that a Wreck-It Ralph sequel could go, and now it sounds like the creative team behind the initial story will get a chance to expand on Ralph’s world.

Composer Henry Jackman worked with Moore on the original Wreck-It Ralph. He was speaking with Collider, and was asked if he’d heard anything about a possible sequel. Well, he had, and had this to say:

A great character, indeed. And one who isn’t hemmed in by the confines of a pre-existing fairy tale, meaning the sky is the limit when it comes to where the Wreck-It Ralph mythology can go to. Moore has shared ideas for a sequel in the past. Part of the reason why we loved Ralph so much is because it dabbled in wildly creative and colorful worlds that existed in arcade games, and gave Moore’s fantastic characters vivid playgrounds. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

It makes sense that Jackman would be in on the creative process of a new Wreck-It Ralph movie, especially if Moore wants him back in the fold. But we’d love to hear from someone on the writing staff, or from Moore himself, before this feels more concrete. Still, a Ralph sequel makes total sense. The first film earned an Oscar nomination. And it banked $471 million worldwide. That’s sequel money, son. Stay tuned to find out when we might actually see it.

When Disney's marvelous movie musical Frozen hit theaters, it proved a feast for the ears and eyes. Frankly, between all the spectacular ice magic and jaunty song numbers, it was all a bit overwhelming. So it's totally understandable if you missed some of the cleverly hidden Easter Eggs tucked within the film. Earlier this month, we shared with you the cameo Tangled couple Eugene and Rapunzel made at Elsa's coronation, but Disney's pulling back the curtain to reveal even more hidden gems!

On the Disney blog, Disney animators have not only copped to the Tangled crossover, but also shared screengrabs revealing allusions to Wreck-It Ralph, Mickey Mouse, and a far more subtle Tangled nod. Of course Disney has a long history of tying its movies together with little visual cues, but how did they bring the video game worlds of Wreck-It Ralph into the fantastical realm of the "Snow Queen"-inspired Frozen? Take a look at the image below and see if you can spot it.

You might have looked at the bust and thought, 'Nope. That doesn't look like Ralph or even Fix-It Felix.' Well, shift your gaze right to those chocolates that Anna is eager to stuff in her face. In this moment from "The First Time in Forever," we see some treats straight out of the candy-coated world of Sugar Rush! This is knowing nod to Frozen screenwriter and co-director Jennifer Lee, who contributed to Wreck-It Ralph's script.

The next one is Mickey's cameo, and it's WAY harder to spot. In the scene where a ice-caked Anna shuffles into the Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna, Mickey Mouse makes an appearance. Can you see him?

If you said he's on the bottom shelf, tucked behind some brick-a-brack, well done! Of course, he also appeared before the film in the short "Get a Horse!"

This last one only the most fanatical Disney devotee might have spotted. In "For the First Time in Forever," Anna is surveying a series of paintings, imagining how love might play out, and she interacts with this painting.

The Disney blog tells us it was inspired by "The Swing" by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. It's Disney version was made as part of the development of Tangled, but fit so nicely into the world of Frozen that it found a home in the castle of Arendelle.

Yet another threat is coming up against the big screen experience, only this time it's first being tooled around with on the other side of the world.

The Wall Street Journal has revealed that in the last year or so both Walt Disney and Sony have been experimenting with giving South Korean audiences the option of either buying a ticket to see a new movie in theaters, or rent it from a home-based service either online or on their television. Examples offered by the newspaper include Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (put out by Sony) which was available to be viewed at home just three weeks after it came out in the Asian nation in April, and both Pixar's Brave and Disney's Wreck-It Ralph, which were available four to five weeks after the start of their theatrical runs in December and September 2012, respectively. It's noted that South Korea is the eighth-largest film market in the world, and that four other major studios are watching closely to see what kinds of results Disney and Sony get from the experiment.

Depending on how things turn out, the situation could spell trouble for both the big chains and the independent theater owners. If you've ever wondered why popcorn, candy and soda is so damn expensive at the movie theater while blockbuster films are making millions upon millions of dollars, it's because the theater itself actually doesn't make a great deal of money off of a new title during its opening weekend. Instead, studios actually take most of the cash from a movie's first few weeks of release, with the cinema actually only making money from screenings late in the game (in most cases after it has fallen from its spot on top of the box office charts). As a result, theaters have spent years and years fighting against smaller and smaller theatrical windows, as studios have pushed for their titles being put out earlier on home media, premium channels and VOD.

Some of you may remember a time from a few years ago when Universal actually planned a similar experiment based in the United States with Brett Ratner's Tower Heist. The studio wanted to make their movie available on VOD just three weeks after the film the film had gotten its wide release - albeit charging $59.99 for the rental. The plan was met with boycott threats from multiple theater chains who said that if Universal wanted to go through with their plans the Ratner movie would not be shown on their screens. The studio eventually backed down.

And it's not just cinema owners that are upset about the idea of smaller theatrical windows are strong focus on home media. In June of 2011, a group of filmmakers including Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, Kathryn Bigelow, Todd Phillips, David Dobkin, Jon Favreau, and Michael Bay signed an open letter arguing in favor of their films still getting their full time on the big screen.

Ultimately , however, this situation isn't dictated by the theaters, studios or the filmmakers, but by the consumer. If there is an exceptionally loud cry from casual movie-goers who don't want to leave their couch in order to see the latest big release, then the market could eventually start to turn in that direction. Personally, I don't think there's anything that could ever match the pure bliss that comes with sitting in the dark and being completely swallowed into the larger-than-life story projected on the wall-sized silver lenticular screen in front of me, but at the same I can understand people wanting the option. This week in home entertainment features some gamers and game characters, a dynasty of sorts, a few under-the-radar indie films, and just in case you were having too much fun, the anniversary limited edition of one of the toughest WWII stories ever captured on film. Read on to learn about some of this week’s best releases, and maybe even a few that slipped under your radar.

Wreck It Ralph

Just a couple of weeks after its streaming digital release, Wreck it Ralph is getting a hard copy alternative, with a 3D Blu-ray combo pack that includes an impressive 3D cover. Wreck-It Ralph may be more enchanting to the average fanboy than the average child, but it’s still a great little animated film, filled with adventure and plenty of jokes from a PG-Rated Sarah Silverman. Directed by The Simpsons and Futurama’s Rich Moore, the film capably works on multiple levels, offering audiences of different ages equivalent enjoyment.

Wreck-It Ralph creates a magical underground video game world, where good guys and bad guys from every game can come together in “Game Central Station” to hang out and even discuss their problems. Ralph (John C. Reilly), a bad guy in a popular-but-aged video game, is having a bit of a mental breakdown. Hoping to catch a medal and be the good guy for once, he ends up embarking on an adventure and learning a few things about friendship and what it really means to be the good guy.

Best Special Feature: This feels like cheating, but the best Wreck-it Ralph bonus feature is the Oscar-winning “Paperman” short. If you haven’t gotten the opportunity to view the wordless love story short, you should buy Wreck-It Ralph, or find it via a streaming outlet, immediately.

Since that felt like cheating, the best actual bonus feature is “Disney Intermission: The Gamer’s Guide to Wreck-It Ralph.” Unfortunately, this feature only comes with the Blu-ray copies of the film. All you have to do is pause the movie and hang out and avid gamer, nerd and comedian Chris Hardwick will pop up on the screen to bring up some of the less obvious gaming moments we might have missed. Some of them are obvious, but things like hidden meanings in numbers and graffiti are pretty interesting.

Schindler’s List 20th Anniversary Limited Edition

Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List was critically acclaimed at the time of its release, earning a best picture win and 6 other Academy Awards, among a slew of other accolades. Twenty years later, the black and white frames of the film are often stunning and, in other moments, nothing short of horrifying. The true story of Oskar Schindler has been memorialized in a riveting picture that looks like it will live on through the ages.

There’s also been no better time to buy a copy of Schindler’s List. Not that the film ever looked bad, but for the 20th anniversary release, Spielberg actually sat down and supervised the film’s transition from the original 35 mm film negative to High Definition. Whatever the size of the television, the picture should be riveting.

Best Special Feature: The bonus features for the set are some of the same as those that came with earlier Schindler’s List releases, most notably the 2004 Collector’s Gift Set for the film. Both of the bonus features have historical value and are a nice watch, but annoyingly, the extras are only available on the DVD copy of the film (which is split between discs, old-school style) and are pretty frustrating in an otherwise-nice Blu-ray release. Since Spielberg was so invested in the restoration process, it would have been nice to see an extra looking into the process or other new extras, as well. Other Special Features:

Duck Dynasty recently returned to huge ratings on A&E, with 8.6 million viewers tuning in for the Season 3 premiere. If you’ve missed the popular reality series, which follows a clan of bearded hunters who run a successful duck call business, you ain’t livin.’ While A&E doesn’t usually offer the greatest sets, generally choosing to split a season up into multiple volumes, at least the DVD set runs cheaply, pricing out at a whopping $10.98. Additionally, the Duck Dynasty: Season 2, Volume 1 set does come with a slew of deleted scenes.

Disney's Wreck-It Ralph was a smash hit at the box office, a hit with critics, and a real contender for the Academy Awards' Best Animated Feature honor. With so much success, a sequel seemed a very likely possibility. By December, Disney announced Wreck-It Ralph 2 was on its way to becoming a reality.

With such an expansive world inspired by video games, the filmmakers are spoiled for choice in where the story might go. Previously, director Rich Moore publically pondered including games like Angry Birds and Words With Friends into the Wreck-It Ralph fold. And with the DVD release coming next week, a new round of interviews has divulged even more possibilities! Speaking with Hypable, Moore admitted he and John C. Reilly, who voiced the titular anti-hero, were kicking around some ways to expand Ralph's world. He explains:

Seeing different versions of Ralph would definitely be an energizing way to keep this potential franchise fresh. Consider how much fun Pixar had with rebooted Buzz Lightyear and Spanish Buzz in Toy Story 3. The idea of Ralph having to potentially face off against alternate versions of himself is not just an intriguing plot device, but also another way gaming culture can fuel this film. What if other Wreck-It Ralphs haven't had that moment of self-realization that their job as a bad guy doesn't define who they are? A different Wreck-It Ralph could be a villain in the sequel! Or else there could be an army of Ralphs, teaming up against an even more formidable foe than the ravenous aliens from the first film.

Obviously, I'm really pumped about where the story could go from here, but for now Moore and company are still working out a plotline. Disney hasn't even greenlit the project, which is actually a good sign as it suggests the studio wants a solid story on the table before barreling into production. So for now, we'll just have to let Moore process his thoughts on the world of Wreck-It Ralph as we savor the movie's lushly realized characters and settings, and revisit its wild adventure again and again on DVD and Blu-ray.

Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph makes great use of multiple game settings and environments. The switch between different types of animation and pixilation is pretty fun to watch, and if you haven’t caught the film yet, you’ll be able to do so when Wreck-it Ralph hits Blu-ray, DVD and digital download on March 5. Now, Disney has put together a sneak peak at one of the bonus features that takes a look at the making of the Sugar Rush video game for the film.

If you’ve caught the flick, you are already aware that Sugar Rush is a world made up of candy cookies and all manner of other yummy desserts. It’s a pretty cute place and it’s sort-of hard to believe the starting point for the game was Antoni Guadi’s architecture. After looking at the architect’s work to get started, actual models of the land were built out of candy to give the animators a starting point to see how candy would look when crumbled or even placed on a cookie in a certain way. It’s fascinating stuff and it may make you a little hungry in the process of watching.

Just in case you want a refresher on how the candy model became the candy animation, the above clip from the flick show’s a super cute Sarah Silverman playing Vanellope von Schweetz. Additionally, there’s some focus on an odd race track and some yummy looking race cars.

Rich Moore’s sweet, funny and exciting Wreck-It Ralph was a huge animated hit for Disney in 2012. Even without., being based on a recognizable character or a familiar show, the original story won audiences over to the tune of $392M at the worldwide box office. It earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, and is an obvious candidate for a sequel, given the amount of interesting places a second chapter easily could go. T;oday, we’re hearing clues about where the next Wreck-It Ralph might head.

With the movie reaching DVD and Blu-ray, Moore spoke (via IGN) about a deleted scene in a subsequent gaming world named Extreme EZ Livin’ 2, where he would have met up with a laid-back character. The scene would have added too much time to the end of the original Ralph, but Moore explains that he’s anxious to attempt a sequel, and could pull some of those forgotten characters – as well as new realms inspired by popular games, into a second film.

Considering how easy it would be to introduce new games that already in place in Ralph’s arcade, it does seem like the possibilities of new characters (heroes and villains) for a Ralph franchise would be endless. Where recognizable video game characters like Qbert and the Pac-Man ghost made it into the first film, you could pull in Pitfall Harry, the Super Mario brothers and thousands of other people fans would devour. Wreck-It Ralph has already hit digital download platforms and Disney’s classic film about characters in video games going on adventures by night will hit 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on March 5. To celebrate, Disney has put together two deleted scenes for fans to take a look at what Ralph would have been up to had he been sidetracked even more in the film.

The scenes must have been scrapped early on, which means that, unfortunately, they were not fully animated. So, while we get some half-drawn images in the clips, we have to rely a lot on the voice acting. In the first clip, Dunderson convinces Ralph that he is a friend and that Ralph should use his large fists to help bust them out of a game and head to another called “X-Treme EZ,” which is pretty much what it sounds like.

The second clip, "X-Treme E-Z Livin' 2," follows the Ralph and Dunderson actually making it to the second game. However, as Ralph soon finds out, easy living may not be as easy as it seems.

If you’ve caught the fast-paced adventure and friendship story that is Wreck-It Ralph, it’s pretty easy to see how these clips seemed like more of a burden to the main narrative than a fun little adventure. However, the clips do make me remember the coolness of the game hopping in the flick, and besides it’s always pretty fun to see the early stages of animation. Among last year's crop of animated movies was Disney's Wreck-It Ralph, a video game-focused animated adventure with a great story and the added appeal of various nostalgic arcade and video game references for those of us with a fondness for the classics. Disney has the DVD and Blu-ray set to arrive this March, and for the first time, they're offering an early release of the HD Digital and HD Digital 3D, which arrive February 12, 2013.

Wreck It Ralph features the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, and follows Ralph, the bad guy featured in the fictional video game Fix-It Felix. Feeling under appreciated and tired of trashing the same apartment building day in and day out (and getting no love from the residents for giving their hero something to fix), Ralph sets out to change his fate and prove himself worthy of a medal by doing a bit of game-jumping. Of course, proving himself hero-worthy turns out to be about more than just obtaining a shiny medal. And therein lies the heart of the story.

Disney released the details about the Blu-Ray/DVD set, which arrives March 5, 2013, following the early digital release set for February 12, 2013. Here's the box art for the pricy Ultimate Collector's Edition, which includes the Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD and digital copy and retails at a hefty $49.99.

Wreck-It Ralph was one of the biggest hits of the 2012 fall season, netting more than $200 million worldwide on the power of family audiences, with kids attracted to the candy-colored world and parents getting nostalgic for the video games of their youth. When you've got a movie that's such a big hit, and especially when it's coming from Disney, you can pretty much assume a sequel will be next-- but now have we gotten confirmation that it's happening, and from a very unlikely source.

When Wreck-It Ralph opened in Australia, Moviehole caught up with stars John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman, and interviewer Clint Morris allowed his five-year-old daughter to get the last question, which naturally was "Will there be more Wreck-It Ralph." Turns out the answer is yes! Here's Reilly explaining how they know it:

It's not just the actors who are willing to talk about Wreck-It Ralph 2-- director Rich Moore, who says he wouldn't dream of handing the sequel over to another director, is also in on the scheme, and already has ideas of which character he'd like to include next time around.

Mario gets a shout-out in Wreck-It Ralph but doesn't appear, and while he might be the most high-profile video game character who doesn't make an appearance, he's surely not the only one fans might like to see next time. So with Wreck-It Ralph 2 almost certainly happening, let us know which other video game characters you want to see next time in the comments! With an entire world of arcade games to choose from, there's no lack of options.

UPDATE! In a recent interview with Collider, Wreck-it Ralph composer Henry Jackman revealed that Disney is still working on the story for Wreck-It Ralph 2. The great thing is that he reconfirms what we already knew about the sequel, that "it is officially on the cards."

So what will Wreck-It Ralph 2 be about? Back in February of 2013 Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore had this to say: "Are there other Ralphs [in this world we were introduced to in the original]? What would happen if another Fix It Felix, Jr. game was plugged in? Are there other Ralphs that are more contemporary? Is there another version of the game that was made for mobile? Are there those kind of Super Smash Bros types games where all the characters are gathered in a fighting game? What would that be like for Ralph to come face to face with those different iterations of himself?"
