Spoilers ahead for the winter premiere of Brilliant Minds, “The Boy Who Feels Everything,” streaming now with a Peacock subscription.

Brilliant Minds’ second season finally returned for the 2026 TV schedule, with the winter premiere airing on the first Monday of the year. It continued the fall finale’s cliffhanger, in which Michelle (Stacey Farber) got into a terrible car accident. Between trying to care for her and the driver responsible, there was a lot going on, and the episode seemed to keep fans on their toes the entire time until the very end. Two characters left Bronx General by the episode’s end, with one shocking me far more than the other, though I now understand why it had to happen.

Following the death of his ex-wife due to the injuries she sustained in the crash, Dr. Van Markus (Alex MacNicoll) made the decision to leave the hospital, telling Wolf (Zachary Quinto) that he needs to be with his son, and that he doesn’t know when he’ll be back. This came after he refused to believe Michelle was brain dead, even going so far as to nearly driving to a hospital in New Jersey for a religious loophole. But after imagining her coming back to life and remarrying her, Van realized that she won’t be returning after all.

While Van’s decision to leave Bronx General came as a shock, it’s not entirely a surprise. We’ve seen him trying to be there more for his son, Liam, and how difficult it’s been even when Michelle was around. Now that Michelle’s gone, it only makes sense for him to put all of his focus on raising Liam. Whether or not he’ll ever come back to the facility remains a mystery, but this standout medical drama has proven to be unpredictable even only two seasons in.

Speaking of unpredictable, as mentioned, there were two exits by the end of the winter premiere, Van’s was the one that was truly surprising. Dr. Jacob Nash (Spence Moore II) also revealed he’d be leaving Bronx General, but it wasn’t too much of a shock. It was already known that a doctor who was affiliated with Jacob’s old football team offered him a spot in his residency program in Texas. He had wrestled with the idea throughout the winter premiere, but ultimately came to the decision to take it.

This gives Jacob the opportunity to continue pursuing medicine, but also going back to his first passion, football, and helping athletes. Giving them the care he never received when he was a young athlete. Given his past and given how much he was struggling with the choice, it made sense for him to take the opportunity.

With Wolf’s team being down two doctors and his newest second-year resident having a vendetta against him, it’s hard to tell what the rest of the season will look like. Tune into new episodes of Brilliant Minds on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC to see what happens.

There's no Star Trek left on the 2025 TV schedule, and while that's left many fans in heated debate about how the franchise should move forward in 2026 and beyond, perhaps we can take a break from that to appreciate something lighter. Zachary Quinto is the star of NBC's Brilliant Minds, and my Trekkie heart is full seeing him suited up as Spock for a recent episode.

Quinto mentioned earlier this year he'd love to return as Spock, and I guess he wasn't kidding! Below is a photo from the latest episode of his NBC medical drama, alongside his co-star, Tamberla Perry. Both doctors are suited up as Star Trek characters for Halloween in "The Doctor's Graveyard," with Perry's character dressed as Uhura. Check it out below:

As a Trekkie, I do have to point out that a Bones, Dr. M'Benga, or Nurse Chapel costume would've been more fitting for their roles as doctors, but kudos to Brilliant Minds for finding a way to get Zachary Quinto dressed up as Spock. I also like the beard as well, as it's giving me Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 vibes when Ethan Peck first took the role.

I love Brilliant Minds taking an opportunity to give us Quinto as Spock, even if the costume doesn't look like the best quality. In fairness, it's supposed to look like a Halloween costume, though I'd think on a doctor's salary, he could've sprung for some upper-level cosplay quality.

Unfortunately, this may be the only time we see Zachary Quinto dressed up as Spock for a while, as we're still no closer to seeing a fourth Kelvin movie than we were several years ago. With Star Trek having zero updates for even its movies in development, it doesn't seem likely we're going to get blindsided by a fourth Kelvin movie going into production.

Paramount has made multiple attempts over the years to try to make a follow-up to Star Trek: Beyond, the third movie in the Kelvin universe, but has had quite a few false starts along the way. With the Paramount Skydance merger recently completed, and CEO David Ellison specifically saying he's hoping to get Star Trek back in theaters, maybe we'll see progress on a Kelvin movie happen in 2026.

As mentioned, Zachary Quinto said he's up to return as Spock, and even said he's emailed J.J. Abrams about getting the new movie up and running. Unfortunately, it'll take more than just his enthusiasm to "make it so," with the combined fame of the ensemble cast making it difficult to organize schedules. That said, if they can make it happen, I'll be first in line to get a ticket!

Brilliant Minds airs on NBC on Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET, for any Star Trek fans who haven't had the opportunity to check it out yet. Brilliant Minds is back in primetime in the fall 2025 TV schedule, and the Season 2 premiere was a rough ride for Zachary Quinto's Dr. Oliver Wolf during multiple points in the timeline. While dealing with his father's return in the present (as well as taking a punch to the face from an MMA boxer with alien hand syndrome), a flash forward to six months in the future finds Wolf in Hudson Oaks Behavioral Health Services, clearly against his will. Showrunner Michael Grassi spoke to CinemaBlend about the flash forward, as well as the great song choice for the sequence.

The context for why Wolf will be committed to a psychiatric facility within six months isn't clear in the Season 2 premiere flash forwards, with the episode picking up in medias res with the neurologist staging an escape attempt. He almost makes it out, which seems to be a sign that he's every bit as brilliant six months into the future as he is in the present, but something has clearly gone very wrong, and he was sedated before he could break out of Hudson Oaks.

The premiere was bookended by flash forward sequences, both set to Buddy Holly's "Everyday." When I spoke with the showrunner ahead of Brilliant Minds' return, he explained why the writers wanted to start Season 2 with the jump forward in time:

The premiere already revealed one way that the flash forwards can tie back to Wolf's cases of the season, with the neurologist landing a punch on an orderly, raising the question of how he learned to hit that way. (The MMA fighter gave him a tutorial.)

Fortunately, Michael Grassi also indicated that Brilliant Minds won't spend the full season just teasing answers about the flash forward without a payoff. The showrunner went on:

If Brilliant Minds keeps up with real time, then the present storyline should catch up with the Hudson Oaks flash forward by the end of March 2026. I have to wonder if NBC broadcasting the 2026 Winter Olympics will affect how soon into the season we get answers, as the network usually doesn't air new episodes of any of its shows during the weeks of the Olympics.

On a more fun note than Wolf being sedated and the drama potentially taking a few extra weeks off for the Olympics, the choice of Buddy Holly's "Everyday" for the flash forward was a peppy juxtaposition to Wolf's desperation to break out of Hudson Oaks.

The song was heavily featured in Prime Video's Good Omens Season 2, but under very different circumstances. Michael Grassi explained the choice of "Everyday" for the flash forwards to six months in the future:

Skydance has signaled the company wants to prioritize getting Star Trek movies back to theaters now that the merger with Paramount is complete, and we've seen some efforts toward making that happen. We have a Starfleet origin movie on the way, along with reassurance that a fourth Kelvin movie is still in development, despite multiple false starts. Zachary Quinto is doing what he can to try to move things along, though I had to chuckle at his attempt.

Quinto talked to Collider recently, as his medical series Brilliant Minds prepares for its return on the 2025 TV schedule. The actor was asked if the merger would help the chances of a follow-up to 2016's Star Trek: Beyond finally happening, and shared he's actually reached out about that exact thing recently:

I get his intention in sending the email, but I can't help but laugh about the idea of Zachary Quinto suggesting the movie happen, as if there haven't been reports about failed scripts involving Chris Hemsworth, and various comments by former cast members on the difficulty in making another Star Trek Kelvin movie. Basically, I'm sure J.J. Abrams appreciated hearing from the actor, though I'm not sure he needed the reminder that many are still waiting on this movie to happen.

Despite that, the upcoming Trek projects rundown does not have a Kelvin movie confirmed to be in production. Even so, many in the ensemble cast remain committed to returning to make one happen, including Zachary Quinto:

It would be wonderful, provided the right idea finally gets clearance to happen. Another factor is the ensemble cast remains in high demand across Hollywood, whether it be in television or movies. I can imagine it wouldn't be cheap to negotiate a return for Chris Pine, Zoe Saldaña, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, and John Cho. That's before casting other known celebrities to play villains and other characters in the movie.

I just want to make it clear that if I had access to J.J. Abrams email, I'd be sending emails the same as Zachary Quinto. Hell, I think just about every diehard Star Trek fan would, as we're still just as excited about the prospect of this movie happening a decade after the last movie. In that regard, it's good to continue sounding the horn and reminding the decision-makers at Skydance and Paramount this is something worth pursuing, especially as long as the project has been in development hell.

In the meantime, it would be great to see if Star Trek could find other ways to get back in theaters. I've talked about how great it would be to finally see a Voyager movie, and I also wouldn't be opposed to seeing the Kelvin universe expand out and possibly move into The Next Generation era. Not to call anyone out, but James McAvoy is the same age as Patrick Stewart when he started the acclaimed Trek show, so why not have him take on the mantle of yet another one of the actor's iconic roles?

We'll see if we have a firm announcement about when the next Star Trek Kelvin movie is happening in the next year. Sadly, I'm not going to feel confident any idea is happening until I see a picture of the cast on set, but I do hope actors keep sending emails and ideas keep getting pitched!

Everyone loves a ruthless TV villain. From Cersei Lannister to J.R. Ewing to Mr. Burns, great villains come in all kinds of ways on our television schedule. They may be cold and calculating, or they may be impulsive and crazy, but a great villain always makes for a much better show. This is a list of just a few of my favorite and most ruthless villains in TV history. Enjoy! If you don't, they may come for you.

J.R. Ewing (Dallas)

J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) was a villain who was so cunning and so ruthless that when he was shot on the Season 3 finale of Dallas, literally all of America waited months to find out who shot him. It wasn't just one of the best cliffhangers ever; it was a cultural moment that I don't think will ever be matched.

Livia Soprano (The Sopranos)

When you're a mob boss and your worst enemy is your mother, you know you're in a bad spot. Livia Soprano, Tony's domineering and, frankly, nasty, mother, played by the late Nancy Marchand, was a brilliant antagonist for the powerful boss of the family. She was so underhanded and so unhinged at times, you never knew just what she was capable of or if there was any good in her at all. It would have been amazing to see where her character went, had we not tragically lost Marchand during the show's run.

Kilgrave (Jessica Jones)

Kilgrave, played by David Tennant in Jessica Jones, just might be my favorite comic book villain in the modern era. The fact that his ability to change the reality you understand in your own head is diabolical and terrifying. Tennant's performance is flat-out amazing.

Gus Fring (Breaking Bad)

Giancarlo Esposito's performance as Gus Fring, the mortal enemy of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) in Breaking Bad, is simply terrifying. He's calm and cold while exacting terrible violence. He's ruthless in his pursuit to control the game, and he's completely without remorse. It's the perfect combination to make an amazing villain.

Nina Myers (24)

There is nothing more ruthless than turning on your co-worker and country, like Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke) did in Season 1 of 24. It was a moment that completely blew viewers' minds, who never could have predicted that Jack Bauer's right-hand woman would end up the villain.

Negan (The Walking Dead)

I'll make a confession here: Negan (Jefferey Dean Morgan) was too much for me. I started to tune out of The Walking Dead right about the time he entered. He was just too violent and too mean for me to keep going. The Walking Dead had a number of great villains, but for me, he's the king of the worst.

The Trinity Killer (Dexter)

The only person to actually match wits with Dexter on the show of the same name was, of course, Arthur Mitchell, aka The Trinity Killer, played by the brilliant John Lithgow. He was an unbelievable foe for everyone's favorite anti-hero/serial killer and a big reason the show was as successful as it was over the years.

Aunt Lydia (The Handmaid's Tale)

The Handmaid's Tale is one of the hardest shows to watch, ever. There is just so much evil throughout virtually every moment of the show. That evil is personified by Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd), the "aunt" who is "caring" for June Osborne/Offred and her fellow handmaids. It's impossible to sum up just how evil she is.

Moriarty (Sherlock)

One of the greatest villains in Western literature is Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes books. On the show Sherlock, Moriarty is portrayed perfectly in a modernized way by Andrew Scott. He is a master criminal, sure, but really, he just wants to torment our hero, Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch)

Mr. Burns (The Simpsons)

Any villain who once tried to block out the sun to drive up profits for his company belongs on this list. Mr. Burns' attempt to shroud Springfield in darkness on The Simpsons led to dozens of suspects after he was shot. Of course, it was actually CM Burms' attempt to steal candy from a baby that actually got him shot. It's a toss-up as to which is worse.

Homelander (The Boys)

One of the most disturbing villains you can watch with a Prime subscription has to be Homelander from The Boys. He finally answers the question: "What if Superman were evil?" Luckily, he's as funny as he is scary, which makes him as watchable as any other baddie on this list.

Cersei Lannister (Game Of Thrones)

One show that gave us all multiple villains that could be on this is Game of Thrones. Perhaps the most coniving, most ruthless, and most disturbing of them all was Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). She made it (almost) to the bitter end of the show after setting herself up as the villain very early on. She wasn't alone, but she was the most dangerous in the game.

Vern Schillinger (Oz)

Vern Schillinger (J.K. Simmons) is the personification of evil on Oz. The racist prisoner was ruthless, but he was also weak in a lot of ways, making him even more dangerous.

Al Swearengen (Deadwood)

There are no villains on this list with the verbal panache of Al Swearengen on Deadwood. Ian McShane's performance, delivering those amazing lines like only he could, made Swearengen a fan favorite, despite just how awful he could be. Just hope he doesn't turn that silver tongue on you, or you might get fed to the pigs next.

Ben Linus (Lost)

This first season on Lost saw the castaways mostly fighting among themselves. There was no real "villain" until the 14th episode of the show's second season. That is when Henry Gale is captured by Rousseau. Soon, we would all learn his real name, Ben Linus, and his real motive, and they weren't benevolent. Actor Michael Emerson played the role perfectly.

Wilson Fisk (Daredevil)

Matching his brains with tremendous brawn, Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) has everything he needs to be one of the most powerful baddies on this list. In both the original Daredevil, which streamed on Netflix before moving to Disney+, and Daredevil: Reborn, Kingpin is as formidable as any villain ever. It doesn't hurt to have the talented D'Onofrio playing the supervillain, one of Marvel's best.

Alexis Carrington (Dynasty)

What J.R. Ewing did for Dallas, Alexis Carrington (Joan Collins) did for Dynasty. The show was a direct response to Dallas, and it had the same vibe, and Alexis was just as conniving and ruthless as J.R.

Skeletor (He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe)

This one is personal. When I was a kid, I was actually a little scared of Skeletor in the original He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe cartoon. He's been the central villain throughout all of the various versions of the franchise. He was thwarted most of the time, but he never stopped coming at He-Man and his cohorts.

Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal)

One of the most ruthless and terrifying villains on TV and on the silver screen has to be Hannibal Lecter. The cannibal psychiatrist was played by Mads Mikkelsen on the show Hannibal, after Sir Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar playing the role in The Silence Of The Lambs. Whomever plays him, he's pure evil.

Marlo Stanfield (The Wire)

One of the things that makes The Wire such an amazing show, one of the best shows ever in the peak era of television, was that there were very few pure villains. Every character, cop or criminal, was presented in shades of gray. Some good, some bad. One character that was pretty much all bad, however, was Marlo Stanfield (Jamie Hector). His takeover of the drug trade in Baltimore was as ruthless a takeover as you could imagine. He was cold and calculating, but he wasn't afraid to be as violent as he could.

Sue Sylvester (Glee)

Sue Sylvester might not be the most violent or the most criminal villain on this list, but that doesn't mean that she is any less ruthless in the pursuit of her goals than anyone else on this list. The great Jane Lynch was born to play the role, too. She was not only ruthless, she was hilarious. The perfect example of a character we all love to hate, and that's a complete compliment to the great Ms. Lynch.

Damon Pope (Sons Of Anarchy)

It wasn't often that SAMCRO ran up against a foe that they couldn't take out pretty easily in Sons of Anarchy. Damon Pope, played by Harold Perrineau, was one exception to that rule. Pope was the main antagonist in Season 5 of the show, and he was responsible for one of the most brutal deaths in SOA history when he arranged Opie's death in front of his brothers. I still get sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

Joffery Baratheon (Game Of Thrones)

In a show full of villains, Joffrey Baratheon was the most unpredictable and the most ruthlessly violent. He was a terrible sadist, as shown over and over, and he had absolutely no morals. He is among the most hated TV villains of all time.

Thomas Barrow (Downton Abbey)

Downton Abbey isn't a show that jumps out as having any ruthless villains, but Thomas Barrow (Rob James-Collier) definitely fits the bill here. He's conniving, sniveling, and awful. Sometimes his motives don't even seem reasonable, but that doesn't stop him from trying to undermine his perceived enemies.

Ralph Cifaretto (The Sopranos)

The Sopranos never really found a villain quite as evil as Livia Soprano, but when Ralph Cifaretto (Joe Pantoliano) returns from Miami in Season 3, we did get a formidable foe to Tony. He was rash and violent, but he also always found a way to justify his questionable decisions, even when they went against Tony's orders.

Amanda Woodward (Melrose Place)

As a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place was decidedly more "adult," not just in the age of the characters, but in the way those characters acted and were treated. 90210 didn't really have villains, but Melrose had Amanda Woodward, played by the wonderful Heather Locklear. While she did garner some sympathy as the seasons rolled on, in the beginning, she was 100% villain.

Newman (Seinfeld)

There aren't a whole lot of villains in sitcoms, at least, not any as devious as Jerry's neighbor Newman (Wayne Knight). He was buddies with Kramer, but a sworn enemy of Jerry's, and it made every single interaction between the two characters hilarious. The disdain they had for each other was palpable every time they met. Newman and Jerry got along.

Sideshow Bob (The Simpsons)

While Mr. Burns is a villain to everyone in Springfield (even Smithers most of the time), Sideshow Bob (voiced by Kelsey Grammer) is a villain to just one poor kid in town, Bart Simpson. Over the years, the Bond Villain-like Bob has come up with all kinds of schemes to take out who he thinks is his nemesis, but he is thwarted each time. It's made for some of the best episodes of The Simpsons.

Sylar (Heroes)

Sylar (Zachary Quinto) was not only ruthless on Heroes, but he was insanely powerful, and that made him one of the scariest villains on this whole list. Zachary Quinto played the role masterfully,

The Governor (The Walking Dead)

Of all the villains in The Walking Dead, The Governor, played by David Morrissey in Seasons 3 and 4, is one of the most menacing. Maybe it's the eye patch, but there was always something very unsettling about him, even when he wasn't being totally awful (which was rare). The villains got more violent as the show went on, but they didn't get any scarier than The Governor.

Villanelle (Killing Eve)

Villanelle's cat-and-mouse game with Eve (Sandra Oh) is what makes the show so great. Jodie Comer, who plays Villanelle, and Sandra Oh have great on-screen chemistry, which is often underrated when it comes to great villains on TV. Sometimes, the back-and-forth is what makes the adversaries great.

Rowan Pope (Scandal)

It's always bad when your most ruthless enemy is part of your family. For Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), her father, Rowan Pope (Joe Morton), was the one enemy who knew how to really twist the knife in the normally unflappable Olivia.

Spoilers ahead for Episode 3 of Brilliant Minds Season 1 on NBC.

Zachary Quinto's streak of emotional episodes of new medical drama Brilliant Minds in the 2024 TV schedule continued with the third installment, called "The Lost Biker." Guest starring Steve Howey of CBS' short-lived True Lies TV show, Quinto's Dr. Oliver Wolf was once again able to find a solution to the mysterious neurological case of the week... but the ending for the patient was bittersweet at best. Throw in a powerful realization about his own parents, and this was a wild ride of emotions. In fact, it reminded me of my conversation with Quinto about Brilliant Minds drawing some tears.

First things first! The main patient of the week was Wyatt, a biker friend of Wolf's who was used to trading medical treatments for motorcycle repairs. He required more than just stitches this time around, as Wolf realized that he needed brain surgery ASAP to save his own life, with the catch that the surgery would likely put an end to his ability to form any new memories. Wyatt just wanted one good memory with his estranged daughter Hailey before the loss, so Wolf decided to take Wyatt for a visit with Hailey to give him just that.

It was a move that honestly reminded me of how Brilliant Minds started its very first episode, with Dr. Wolf taking dementia patient Harold (Broadway's Andre De Shields) to his granddaughter's wedding, jogging his memory with music, and giving the family one very happy moment before his memories faded again. Unfortunately, the daring move that worked beautifully in the medical drama's series premiere backfired in "The Lost Biker," and it was a close call before Wyatt was able to pull through his surgery and start his life all over again... every single day, due to the amnesia from the surgery.

Between the bittersweetness of the ending for Wyatt and Wolf realizing that his mother was letting him remember events from his childhood the way he needs to, I found "The Lost Biker" to be the most emotional that Brilliant Minds has gotten since the first five minutes of the pilot. When Zachary Quinto spoke with CinemaBlend about his new show, I admitted to the Star Trek actor that those first five minutes of the premiere left me crying. The star laughed and responded:

Quinto also shared that playing a character based on real-life neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks was a major appeal in bringing Brilliant Minds to television, as he gets to play a character "who is much more rooted in a sense of compassion and faith in humanity" than those he's portrayed on shows like American Horror Story and the original run of Heroes. Is it any wonder that he could see the compliment in me tearing up at the emotional first five minutes of his new show?

Of course, I'd completely meant it as a compliment, although I do have to wonder if I would have been choked up if Zachary Quinto's scene partner wasn't Andre De Shields. The Tony Award-winner from Hadestown singing "God Only Knows" as not only the opening scene, but also the introduction to Dr. Wolf packed a punch. Quinto commented on De Shields joining the show for that sequence, saying:

While it seems unlikely that Andre De Shields will make another appearance as Harold, Brilliant Minds does have another Broadway alum (and Criminal Minds vet) on the way with Mandy Patinkin set to recur. The full first season filmed before the premiere on NBC, and the next episode seems to be the one that was heavily hyped in early promos with Wolf taking a patient's drugs. Take a look:

The actress landed her role as Dr. Carol Pierce after an unconventional chemistry read with Zachary Quinto, and each episode has shed a bit more light on her character as well. There are many upcoming Star Trek projects, and technically, the fourth Kelvin movie is one of them. Of course, fans collectively roll their eyes at that because the movie has had so many hang-ups over the years that even the latest news about its development this year didn't get too many people talking. I take that back, Chris Pine did say he was confused to hear it was closer to happening, which isn't exactly a vote of confidence. As time goes on, how does Zachary Quinto feel about it happening?

Quinto, who is currently part of the 2024 TV schedule with his new NBC series Brilliant Minds, spoke to Variety about the possibility that too much time could pass for Star Trek 4 to happen with the Kelvin cast. Specifically, is there a cutoff to when it can be made in his mind? The Spock actor said the following:

He's completely right, and as any Star Trek fan will know, the story is never truly over for the characters. The fourth Kelvin movie can always happen, but it'll be a matter of how the script adapts to find the Enterprise crew down the stretch. Quinto is only 47, and Leonard Nimoy was 55 when he did the fourth TOS movie, The Voyage Home.

Of course, that's kind of an unfair comparison to make. From 1979 to 1991, there were only about two to three years between each TOS movie. Star Trek: Beyond, the third movie in the Kelvin timeline, celebrated its eighth anniversary in July. Even in the best-case scenario where filming started today, I'd imagine we'd be past the nine-year mark before the movie hits theaters.

Actors can be patient, but whether Paramount is willing to wait that long is another story. Star Trek will return to films on the streaming side with Star Trek: Section 31, and is currently developing a movie for the silver screen centered on the origin story of the Federation. Assuming those movies find an audience and are hits, what does it mean for the future of Star Trek 4?

It might motivate everyone involved to work a little harder on coming together for a movie, but I could also see a scenario in which making this movie becomes less of a priority for the studio. After all, paying for this ensemble cast in 2024 would likely be more expensive than it was close to a decade ago, and I'm not sure it was necessarily cheap when they did Beyond. There will likely be real conversations as time marches on of the cost of making this movie weighed against the audience interest that is out there.

As a Star Trek fan, I'll stay excited about seeing it regardless, but this movie will need more than die-hard fans in seats to be a box-office success. At the same time, this movie doesn't happen without the actors, so it's good to hear Quinto is down for more, regardless of how old he is.

Zachary Quinto returned to primetime in the 2024 TV schedule as star of NBC’s newest medical drama, and Brilliant Minds won’t be confused with other shows in the genre like Chicago Med, Grey’s Anatomy, and (certainly not) Doctor Odyssey. With a focus on neurology and based on the work of real-life author and neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks, the new show presented a chance for Quinto to step away from the kinds of characters he’s played on shows like Heroes and American Horror Story. The actor opened up to CinemaBlend about that evolution and what attracted him to Brilliant Minds.

Quinto plays Dr. Oliver Wolf, a brilliant neurologist who struggles with prosopagnosia, a.k.a. face blindness, but doesn’t let anything stop him from fighting for his patients even when that means bending the rules to the point of breaking them. His unconventional approach brought him to Bronx General Hospital in New York, working alongside his friend Dr. Carol Pierce and for his mother. All in all, nobody who watches will confuse Quinto as Wolf for him as Sylar on the original Heroes!

When I spoke with Zachary Quinto about his new NBC show (which you can stream with a Peacock subscription), he shared what drew him to Brilliant Minds as a more grounded show compared to his other major TV gigs and the Star Trek franchise as Spock:

As the creator and showrunner of Brilliant Minds, Michael Grassi brought plenty of TV experience thanks to his work as a producer on projects including Supergirl, Riverdale, and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. For Quinto, getting to show how he’s evolved by playing Dr. Oliver Wolf was another major attraction. While he hasn’t exactly been typecast on TV as “dark and really twisted,” the new series allows him to explore some new directions as an actor. He went on:

As 2024 winds down, can anybody argue against Zachary Quinto’s point that right now is a good time for “hope and optimism and light” in primetime? For the Brilliant Minds star, another standout element of making Season 1 was one that few actors get to experience with a network TV project. When asked how much of the season finished filming before the premiere on September 23, Quinto confirmed that they “finished all of it” by the middle of August, when they’d been shooting “up in Toronto” since March. He went on:

It remains to be seen if that’s something that Brilliant Minds would be able to recreate in a second season, but viewers will need to tune into the first to guarantee a future for Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf and Tamberla Perry as Dr. Carol Fierce. The two stars did a chemistry read together for their roles, so it should be safe to say that theirs is a dynamic to continue looking forward to.

Brilliant Minds has officially debuted in the 2024 TV schedule as primetime's newest medical drama, starring Zachary Quinto in his first main network TV role since The Slap in 2015 and They Cloned Tyrone alum Tamberla Perry. The new series focuses on mental health rather than more general medicine that you'll find on dramas like Chicago Med and Grey's Anatomy, and according to one of the stars, a fair amount of work went into guaranteeing a good match between the top-billed actors.

As neurologist Dr. Oliver Wolf and psychiatrist Dr. Carol Pierce respectively, Zachary Quinto and Tamberla Perry are playing old friends and new colleagues with a lot of history. Early on, Wolf claimed that she's the only person that he likes, and Pierce consistently showed faith in him despite some seriously unconventional approaches. His face blindess doesn't seem to ever apply when it comes to her.

So when I spoke with Perry over Zoom about what sets Brilliant Minds apart, I asked if if she auditioned with Quinto before being officially cast. She shared:

Brilliant Minds established early on in a fun exchange between the two characters that Wolf is gay, so the chemistry read wasn't for the purpose of setting up a slow burn between Wolf and Pierce. Tamberla Perry just had to strike the right kind of chemistry with Quinto without actually meeting him previously or reading together in person. She elaborated:

Only one episode has aired so far, but I think it's safe to say that the show wouldn't have worked right off the bat if there wasn't a sense of ease and comfort between Wolf and Pierce. If she was going to be the person he confides in, their friendship had to be believable, so it seems that those four auditions did the trick!

Having shared what her audition process was like up to and including the chemistry read with Zachary Quinto, Tamberla Perry also explained what attracted her to Brilliant Minds. She said:

The first episode also confirmed that there's plenty of story to be told outside of the walls of Bronx General, with what seems to be a very messy backstory for Oliver Wolf that surely won't be helped by the fact that he'll be working under his mom. Not a whole lot has been revealed about Carol Pierce's personal life just yet, but Tamberla Perry went on to share what specifically about her character made her want to land the job on Brilliant Minds:

Hopefully Brilliant Minds will continue to show more of Carol Pierce as a doctor and as a person as the medical drama continues this fall. At the very least, it seems like a safe bet that the friendship between Tamberla Perry as Pierce and Zachary Quinto as Wolf will be a highlight. Following the conclusion of the DC Animated Movie Universe timeline in 2020 with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, with the 2022 short film Constantine: The House of Mystery serving as an epilogue, the Tomorrowverse timeline took its place, and we’re now six movies deep into this new continuity of animated DC movies. Movie #7 arrives early on the 2024 movies schedule, and it’ll kick off a three-part adaptation of arguably DC Comics’ most famous crossover storyline, Crisis on Infinite Earths. Now Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One’s voice cast has been unveiled, and while there’s A+ talent involved, it’s nonetheless making me wish actors like Jensen Ackles, Alexandra Daddario and more would contribute to the DC landscape in live-action.

Just a few weeks after the first trailer for Crisis on Infinite Earths dropped, we’ve learned what names are attached to the animated movie, with many of the returning Tomorrowverse actors playing multiple roles thanks to the story showing off many other universes. The main roster includes Jensen Ackles as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Darren Criss as Superman & Earth-2 Superman, Stana Katic as Wonder Woman & Superwoman, Matt Bomer as The Flash/Barry Allen, Megan Donnelly as Supergirl & Harbinger, Jimmi Simpson as Green Arrow and Zachary Quinto as Lex Luthor. We’ll also be treated to more of Alexandra Daddario as Lois Lane following her debut in the role in Superman: Man of Tomorrow, the movie that ushered in the Tomorrowverse.

But that’s just the tip of the performing iceberg when it comes to Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One, which is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jim Krieg. Here’s the rest of this movie’s cast:

Obviously it’s great to see the likes of Jensen Ackles, Alexandra Daddario and more continuing to lend their talents to the Tomorrowverse. Again though, I hope the day comes that those two, along with plenty of the other actors mentioned here, get to star in something live-action on the upcoming DC movies and upcoming DC TV shows front. For example, Ackles would frankly still make for a dynamite older Batman, and while Matt Bomer already has some live-action DC credits to his name as Larry Trainor/Negative Man on Doom Patrol, it’d be cool to see him play a more high-profile character. I also remember that Harry Shun Jr. told me he wants to play a villain in a live-action superhero movie.

In addition to the big cast reveal, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One also released a new trailer teasing more of the story that will see The Monitor recruiting a team of hundreds of superheroes from numerous realities to save all of reality from an antimatter armageddon.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One will first be released digitally on January 9, 2024, and the Blu-ray and 4K UHD physical copies will follow on January 23. Part Two and Part Three will be available later in 2024, with specific release dates not shared yet. Remember that you can stream many of the past animated DC movies with your Max subscription while you wait for Part One’s arrival. 

The last several years have been quite good for Star Trek fans on the TV front, with shows like Discovery, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks keeping Paramount+ subscribers entertained. The film side of the franchise, however, has been decidedly lacking, as there’ve been no Star Trek movies released since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. However, Lindsey Anderson Beer, who’s writing Star Trek 4, has shared a promising update on Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto’s next outing as Kirk and Spock, one which legitimately surprised me.

Star Trek 4 has been languishing in development hell for well over half a decade, and given all its false starts, I’d assumed that there was no chance of this movie ever getting made, or at the very least it had been tabled for the time being. Yet, while promoting her new movie Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, Beer informed Collider that Star Trek 4 is still moving down the creative pipeline, saying:

So per Lindsey Anderson Beer’s latest statement, while Star Trek 4 is still in the early stages, she sounds confident that it will eventually get off the ground. Beer was announced in summer 2021 to be co-writing the Star Trek 4 script with Geneva Robertson-Dworet, back when WandaVision’s Matt Shakman was still attached to direct. Now that Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is in the can and headed to Paramount+ soon, it’s unclear if Beer is set to do more work on the Star Trek 4 script at some point or if that project is well behind her, but either way, she’s in the loop enough to know that the next Kelvin timeline-set story hasn’t been shelved.

Beer’s comment follows  six months after J.J. Abrams, who directed the first two Kelvin movies and remains a producer on this corner of the franchise, said that he thinks Star Trek 4’s story is “as compelling” as 2009’s Star Trek, which kicked off the Kelvin timeline. At one time, the plan for Star Trek 4 was to have Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk meet his father, Chris Hemsworth’s George Kirk, who died at the beginning of Star Trek shortly after James was born. However, that version of the movie fell through due to Pine and Hemsworth having pay disputes with Paramount and the latter not approving of the script, resulting in it being officially shelved by early 2019.

No information about Lindsey Anderson Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet’s Star Trek 4 script has been shared with the public, and with Matt Shakman having exited the project to direct Fantastic Four in August 2022, the next Kelvin story has been left in a holding pattern. Ideally Beer’s assessment of the situation means that Star Trek 4 can finally start making some meaningful progress again, even if we don’t have a timetable for it just yet. Star Trek has experienced a resurgence on TV thanks to streaming, so it’d be a shame if this franchise couldn’t re-secure a foothold in the theatrical realm again to capitalize on that popularity.

It is worth noting, though, that there is at least one Star Trek movie to look forward to besides Star Trek 4, as the Michelle Yeo-led Section 31 has shifted from a TV series to a feature-length story, though it will be a Paramount+ exclusive. In any case, once there’s a major development with Star Trek 4, we’ll let you know. Until then, keep track of what movies are scheduled with our 2023 release schedule and 2024 release schedule.

This past weekend was a big one for Star Trek fans, as many gathered in Las Vegas for the STLV: 57-Year Mission convention to meet their favorite stars and writers. Unfortunately, the WGA writers' and SAG-AFTRA strikes prevented pretty much all talent from discussing their beloved shows, but there were still plenty of cool moments. For example, actors Ethan Peck and Zachary Quinto had a chance to meet and take a photo for the ultimate Spock reunion. 

They may be from different timelines, but there's no denying they both embody the spirit of everyone's favorite Vulcan. Quinto, who plays the Kelvin universe Spock on the big screen, uploaded a photo to Instagram with Strange New Worlds' Peck and accompanied it with a humorous caption: 

To use Spock's iconic response, it's "fascinating" to see these two side by side. While I doubt anyone would be fooled into thinking they're looking at twins, the two actors do share some similar features that are key to helping them look as close to Leonard Nimoy as possible, for better or...better. Both men have won the love of fans for what they're brought to the roles before and since his passing, and here's hoping they both "Live long and prosper" to portray the character for many years to come. 

As mentioned, Ethan Peck and Zachary Quinto were both at STLV meeting fans, signing autographs, and even took part in a panel together. Of course, neither were allowed to talk about struck work under SAG-AFTRA guidelines, meaning questions about Star Trek were completely off the table. That didn't stop people online from wishing they'd get a chance to share some screen time and maybe even have an adventure together. 

Technically, Ethan Peck's Spock will meet Zachary Quinto's Spock, and for readers, it has already happened. Prime Spock was transported to the Kelvin timeline following a trip through a black hole that sent him back in time, which allowed Leonard Nimoy to reprise his role in the 2009 movie. Given where Strange New Worlds is set now, that won't happen until over a hundred years later, so it seems unlikely we'll get to see Peck's Spock recreate that scene anytime soon. 

As for when we'll see each man as Spock again, Ethan Peck's Strange New Worlds is about to wrap up Season 2 but has already been renewed for Season 3. Production for the new season is currently on pause due to the strikes, so there might be a delay in when it will actually be available for those with a Paramount+ subscription. 

While there are plenty of upcoming Trek shows on the horizon, we are still waiting for news on when Zachary Quinto will play Spock again in Star Trek 4. There have been quite a few false starts to finally get the movie going, so here's hoping the latest attempt is when it finally happens. Maybe we'll even get some weird kind of interdimensional hole where the crew of Strange New Worlds is able to meet and collaborate with the Kelvin Enterprise. Stranger things have happened in Star Trek, especially in Voyager. 

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds concludes Season 2 on Thursday, August 10th. As for where to find Zachary Quinto, every Kelvin timeline movie is currently available on Paramount+. 

American Horror Story has welcomed a plethora of major stars over the course of its 11-season run. From Angela Bassett and Sarah Paulson to Evan Peters and Lady Gaga, it feels like a major chunk of Hollywood’s celebrity population has popped up on the anthology series at this point. And the upcoming twelfth season of the FX series is set to keep the star power coming, as Kim Kardashian is set to co-lead it. She’ll appear alongside a number of other notable names, including Zachary Quinto. The fan-favorite actor just recently confirmed his return and opened up about meeting Kardashian on set as well.

Longtime AHS fans will surely be glad to hear that Zachary Quinto is returning to the fold during the new season. However, it sounds like his role will be relatively small compared to past seasons. He shared those few details during a recent interview with People, during which he also recalled crossing paths with Kim Kardashian. The Star Trek alum had nothing but kind things to say about the reality TV star and mogul:

That’s serious praise, especially coming from someone who’s been a fixture in Ryan Murphy’s franchise for so long. Zachary Quinto joined the cast during the first season of American Horror Story, which was subtitled Murder House. From there, he appeared in the second season, Asylum and, after a long absence from the series, he returned for the latest entry, NYC. It’s wonderful to see the seasoned pro shower some much praise on his co-star as she prepares to make her own mark on the long-running program. 

The Heroes alum isn’t the first veteran of the horror show to react to Kim Kardashian’s casting. Patti LuPone – who’s starred in two seasons herself – also spoke out on the matter, though she wasn’t quite as kind. LuPone chastised Kardashian, as the veteran actress believes the SKIMS founder’s hiring took away an opportunity from a more experienced performer. It is true that Kardashian doesn’t have as many acting credits as a number of her peers, but one would think that she just happened to possess something that appealed to the producers. 

The Kardashians star is set to co-lead the season – which is called Delicate – alongside series vet Emma Roberts. Among the cast that’s joining them this year are Cara Delevingne, Matt Czuchry, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Debra Monk. Plot details are scarce at the moment, and it could be a while before we get our first glimpse at what’s to come. This is because the show has reportedly been delayed due to the ongoing WGA writers strike. 

Those curious about Kim Kardashian’s AHS debut may be bummed that they’re going to have to wait longer to see it, but Zachary Quinto’s vote of confidence may be enough to make them a little excited. It goes without saying that Kardashian has proven herself to be skilled in a number of ways. It’ll be intriguing to see if she finds similar success as the lead actress of a show.

Star Trek 4 is on the way, trekkies! 

From the moment Star Trek, starring Chris Pine, dropped in 2009, J.J. Abrams has captivated Star Trek fans, by expanding on a beautiful universe with an amazing space adventure that showed off just how wonderful the world of Star Trek is. The last film release was way back in 2016, titled Star Trek Beyond, and for some time, it felt like another movie would never come.

However, Star Trek 4 has taken some steps towards becoming a reality, starting off with news in February 2022 and continuing to now. New details have been released about the long-awaited movie. If you’re looking for some of the latest updates on it, here are some quick things that we know about the upcoming sequel.

Star Trek 4 Was Announced To Be In The Works In February 2022

Fear not, all the loyal fans out there, as Star Trek 4 has officially been announced by J.J. Abrams. As first reported by Variety from the Paramount Investors Day Presentation in February 2022, Abrams himself said that they're “hard at work” on the new Star Trek film and that shooting for the movie will begin by the “end of the year.” 

Abrams also teased that the original cast, as well as some new players, would appear, creating a new Star Trek experience. With how much Star Trek has evolved over the last few years, thanks to new shows such as Star Trek: Discovery or Star Trek: Picard, it’s exciting to hear that the films are also going to be bringing in new characters for us to love just as much as the television shows.  

Star Trek 4 Has Been Temporarily Removed From Paramount’s Release Schedule

The original premiere date was already being pushed around for some time prior to this, but with everything sort of up in the air right now, Star Trek 4 has been temporarily removed from the Paramount release schedule, according to Deadline, as of September 2022.

In November 2021, THR reported that Star Trek 4 was delayed until December 22nd, 2023, as it had originally been slated to come out on June 9, 2023. But now, it’s unclear if it’s going to find a place on the 2023 movie release list, and there’s no new date announced.

Hopefully, we won’t need to wait long for a new release date, but I’d rather Paramount not push it so quickly if that means we need to sacrifice the quality. I can wait as long as possible.

Chris Pine Is Set To Return As The Star

It was sort of up in the air for some time whether Chris Pine was going to return to the Star Trek franchise. While he did star in the latest movies, Pine himself didn’t even know the fourth installment was in development, as reported above from The Hollywood Reporter. But, per the Deadline article above, Pine is going to star in the fourth movie. 

Pine has been doing a lot the last six years since his last appearance in the Star Trek universe. Most recently, he was a part of the Don’t Worry Darling cast, and has appeared in films such as the Wonder Woman movies, All the Old Knives, A Wrinkle in Time, and is going to be appearing in 2023’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, so he’s been quite busy. However, I can’t wait to see him return as James T. Kirk in Star Trek 4.

Zoe Saldana And More Are Expected To Return For Star Trek 4 

If you were wondering if any of the other stars are set to come back, the previously mentioned Variety report noted that several of the film's primary actors are in talks to return to the franchise for a fourth movie. When the film was first announced, it was a surprise to everyone from the original franchise that Star Trek 4 was even in the works, according to an early 2022 story from The Hollywood Reporter. 

In addition to Chris Pine, this includes Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg. 

Zoe Saldana has been in the superhero world for some time, appearing as Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise – which is set to have a third movie come out in May 2023. Saldana also made appearances as Gamora in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, so she’s been quite busy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. John Cho led Cowboy Bebop on Netflix, adding on to his impressive list of TV and movie performances. Zachary Quinto has appeared in The Boys in the Band and will be featured in the upcoming season of American Horror Story: NYC.

For sure, these stars have been busy as heck and will undoubtedly be appearing in many 2022 upcoming movies and beyond, but to hear that they’re potentially going to be back for Star Trek 4 is even more exciting. 

J.J. Abrams Will Be Producing Star Trek 4

As reported by Variety, Star Trek 4 will be produced by J.J. Abrams, but not directed by him. This isn’t that much of a surprise. While Abrams did direct the first two Star Trek films, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, he stepped down from Star Trek Beyond to become an executive producer and handed over the directing torch to Justin Lin.

Abrams is going to be doing the same thing for Star Trek 4, working as a producer while another director takes the lead. However, this time around there will be a new person in the director’s chair, rather than Justin Lin. 

WandaVision Director, Matt Shakman, Will No Longer Be Directing Star Trek 4

Originally, it was announced that WandaVision director Matt Shakman, would be directing Star Trek 4, according to Deadline, in July 2021. However, that has since changed, as Shakman is now tacked on to direct the upcoming Fantastic Four film in the MCU, according to Deadline. 

WandaVision was a huge hit for both Disney+ and Marvel when it released in early 2021, scoring multiple award nominations and wins, and earning the love of fans everywhere, so it was exciting to see him sign on for something as big as Star Trek. But, reportedly due to time conflicts with Fantastic Four, Shakman can no longer direct. Paramount released a statement in regards to his departure. 

With this announcement, and no word since on who will direct, it’s not very surprising that the film was taken off the release schedule. But hopefully, that won't take too long.  

How To Watch The J.J. Abrams Star Trek Movies Streaming

If you’re like me and you can’t wait to see another Star Trek movie, the previous films are available to either rent or stream right now. The first J.J. Abrams Star Trek film begins the adventure, as the USS Enterprise combats a mighty force that threatens the lives of innocent people.

And, if for some reason that’s still not enough Star Trek goodness for you, Paramount+ has so much Star Trek content that I’m quite sure you’ll find plenty of stuff to watch until Star Trek 4 releases.

You can never predict exactly what you are in for with each new season of co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s alluring bizarre and extremely freaky anthology series — which is also one of the best horror TV shows on Hulu. That is especially the case for its latest, and eleventh, edition called American Horror Story: New York City (or AHS: NYC, for short), which we can infer takes place in the Big Apple, but not much else about the story has been revealed. 

However, what we can probably count on is that the American Horror Story Season 11 cast is going to be a knockout, just like it is every year. The following is breakdown of the familiar faces coming back and new faces joining in on the fun for the return of the FX hit.

Making his debut in the American Horror Story cast in the role of Gino, we have Joe Mantello, who has worked with Ryan Murphy several other times. He played Mickey Marcus in HBO’s Emmy-winning historical film The Normal Heart, directed Netflix’s The Boys in the Band from 2020 (which Murphy produced), starred in Murphy’s Netflix original period miniseries, Hollywood, from the same year, and had a role on The Watcher cast, most recently. 

After getting his start on Broadway, the actor made his debut in a title made for the screen with Cookie — a 1989 comedy starring Peter Falk — and, in 1997, made his own feature-length directorial debut with Love! Valour! Compassion!, starring Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander.

Billie Lourd (Hannah)

Hannah is the sixth character Billie Lourd has played in the AHS universe (or the seventh if you count her episode of American Horror Stories). She made her acting debut in Murphy and Falchuk’s more comedic (and more network-friendly) horror TV show, Scream Queens, in 2015 — the same year she made her feature film debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens alongside her late mother, Carrie Fisher. 

In addition to reprising the role of Lt. Connix in two more Star Wars movies, Lourd stole the show in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart in 2019, played Debra Messing’s niece on Will & Grace in 2020, and, also in 2022, appears in the George Clooney and Julia Roberts-led rom-com, Ticket to Paradise.

Zachary Quinto (Sam)

As Sam, we have fellow AHS veteran Zachary Quinto, whose other most notable TV credits include his one-season stint on 24 as Adam Kaufman, his first starring role as Sylar on Heroes, the Joe Hill-inspired AMC horror show NOS4A2 as villain Charlie Manx, and Amazon’s animated, non-Marvel or DC superhero series, Invincible, as “Robot.” 

On the big screen, the actor is best known from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies as Spock, but also gave memorable performances in the likes of Oliver Stone’s Snowden as journalist Glenn Greenwald in 2016, 2018’s Hotel Artemis as the son of Jeff Goldblum’s crime lord character, and in his co-star Joe Mantello’s aforementioned directorial effort, The Boys in the Band.

Russell Tovey (Patrick)

While Patrick is his first AHS character, Russell Tovey is no stranger to horror, having played a werewolf on the BBC’s original version of Being Human, appeared in the funny creature feature Grabbers from 2012, and starred in 2014’s Blackwood — a modernized take on a traditional English ghost story. The British actor also had a role on a couple of Arrowverse DC TV shows, made a small appearance in Muppets Most Wanted, had a regular role on HBO’s queer drama, Looking, and also starred in the queer biographical movie, Pride, in 2014. 

Leslie Grossman (Barbara)

Barbara is only the latest American Horror Story character played by Leslie Grossman, but her only other experience with the synonymous genre is appearing alongside Foo Fighters in Studio 666, having been better known for comedies — such as one of the best party movies, Can’t Hardly Wait, or Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous. She has a prolific small screen presence, however, from her regular roles on The CW’s Popular and What I Like About You (when the network was still called The WB) and, guest spots on hits like Nip/Tuck or 2 Broke Girls, and a more recent recurring role on Hulu’s Love, Victor.

Charlie Carver (Adam)

As Adam, we Charlie Carver, who is yet another AHS newcomer, but also a Ryan Murphy veteran, having starred in his Netflix original series prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest called Ratched and the aforementioned The Boys in the Band. He made his debut joining the Desperate Housewives cast as Porter Scavo, later starred on HBO’s The Leftovers, had a recurring role on MTV’s Teen Wolf, and most recently appeared in Matt Reeves’ The Batman — all of which also starred his twin brother, Max.

Sandra Bernhard (Fran)

Stand-up comedian, singer, and actor Sandra Bernhard first appeared on AHS in the Season 8 episode, “Sojourn,” and is returning for Season 11 in the regular role of Fran, continuing her working relationship with Ryan Murphy that also includes Pose. She also worked with Martin Scorsese on 1982’s The King of Comedy, stole the show from Bruce Willis in 1991’s Hudson Hawk, appeared alongside Leslie Nielsen in 1998’s Wrongfully Accused, and is well known for her recurring roles on shows like Roseanne, The L Word, and 2 Broke Girls, to name just a few.

Isaac Powell (Theo)

Yet another AHS and Broadway veteran in the Season 11 cast — as Theo — is Isaac Powell, who just made his feature film debut in 2021 with the cinematic adaptation of the Tony winner, Dear Evan Hansen. Before then, he was seen on an episode of the 2018 Murphy Brown revival, an episode of Amazon Prime’s romantic anthology Modern Love in 2021, and, also in 2022, appeared in the coming-of-age crime thriller movie, Susie Searches.

Denis O’Hare (Henry)

Playing Henry is longtime AHS veteran and three-time Emmy nominee Denis O’Hare, who has other creepy and fantastic shows under his belt like True Blood and The Nevers on HBO, and Starz’s American Gods, as well as movies under the same category like 2009’s Quarantine, 2014’s The Town That Dreaded Sundown and found footage thriller The Pyramid, along with Shudder’s 2018 Lizzie Borden biopic, Lizzie. O’Hare actually has a very eclectic filmography that also includes Oscar winners like Dallas Buyers Club and Michael Clayton, and fun comedies like Garden State, The Proposal, and Late Night.

Patti LuPone (Kathy)

Yet another veteran of theatre, American Horror Story, and other works by Ryan Murphy is Patti Lupone, who plays Kathy on Season 11 and landed her first credited feature film role in Steven Spielberg’s 1941 before going on to star in Oscar darlings like Witness and Driving Miss Daisy. Her most notable, previous small-screen credits include a main role on suburban drama Life Goes On, recurring sports on Oz and Penny Dreadful, playing herself on HBO’s Girls, and, also in 2022, she can be seen in Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil.

Sis (Dunaway)

Making her American Horror Story debut in the role of Dunaway is Sis, who has one other screen acting credit to her name — the brief, unnamed role of “Employee” on Season 4 of the TBS sitcom, The Last O.G. in 2021. The transgender actor also made history that year when she was cast in the role of Ado Annie in a Broadway tour of Oklahoma! 

Kyle Beltran (Morris)

Another young theater performer making his AHS debut — as Morris — is Kyle Beltran, who actually made his screen acting debut more than a decade ago with two episodes of the CBS drama, Unforgettable, which he followed with a guest spot on Showtime’s The Big C before landing his first feature film in the form of 2016’s Equity. That same year, he appeared on the acclaimed web series Horace and Pete, only to return to screen acting four years later by lending his voice to The Shivering Truth and, the next year, two episodes of OWN’s David Makes Man before joining Netflix’s Inventing Anna cast earlier in 2022.

While AHS favorites like Sarah Paulson and Even Peters are nowhere to be found this year, I think fans should have no trouble warming to the talented newcomers in the American Horror Story Season 11 cast.

Star Trek 4 has created quite the conundrum for all parties involved. The franchise’s home Paramount and producers recently announced the film after years of development hell without allegedly informing the cast. Things got more confusing as various cast members gave different responses. The main consensus was no one knew anything about the new film. And it still feels like the cast is in the dark about this latest installment. One voice Star Trek fans haven’t heard from is Zachary Quinto (aka Spock). The Star Trek actor broke his silence by offering an update on when the fourth movie will actually film.

The Star Trek Beyond actor joined the chorus of clueless cast members, including Chris Pine and Karl Urban, about the fourth film’s status. But Quinto was lowering Trekkies' sequel expectations even before the film was announced. It seemed now the official announcement hasn’t eased his expectations about the film’s development. The thespian was being interviewed by THR when he got candid about his stance on the proposed Star Trek Beyond sequel.

The TV and film actor has always been honest about his and the cast's stance on the fourth installment. And Zachary Quinto right to be apprehensive about the fourth film. The actor echoed the same hesitancy as Pine and Urban about not having a script yet. You can’t give a definitive commitment to something you haven’t read yet. At this point, it’s safe to say no one outside of Paramount and the producers knows if or when the fourth installment is going to happen. Despite the lack of further updates, he remained optimistic the film will happen.

Being candid about the franchise seemed to run through the cast as they’ve been realistic. Pine spoke on the franchise’s struggle to match the massive returns of MCU, DCEU, and Star Wars universes. He admitted to feeling the pressure to hit the billion-dollar mark but felt the studio should cater to the fanbase rather than appealing to a broader audience.

For co-star Zoe Saldaña (aka Lt. Uhura), making the next installment would be difficult for another reason. She explained how bittersweet it will be to do another film without late co-star Anton Yelchin as he was a lifelong Trekkie. So it will be interesting to see how the studio addresses both issues.

As we wait to hear more about the sequel, you can get some information on what to expect from Star Trek 4. The third sequel is expected to premiere on December 22, 2023. The TV corner of the Star Trek franchise has been chugging alongside nicely over the last several years, but the last time we embarked where no one has gone before on the cinematic side of things was in 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. Well, last week brought the revelation that Chris Pine and the other main stars of the Star Trek reboot film series are in talks to reprise their roles for Star Trek 4. If this news was surprising to you, guess what? It was a shock to the actors too.

THR has heard from its sources that most, if not all of the teams associated with the headlining actors of the recent Star Trek movies were not only unaware that a Star Trek 4 announcement was coming, but that their clients would be part of the project. These parties were also taken aback that Star Trek 4 is expected to begin production before 2022 is over, as Paramount Pictures wants to deliver this movie to the masses by December 22, 2023 (it was previously dated for June of the same year). As things stand now, Chris Pine, who plays Captain James T. Kirk in the Kelvin timeline of Star Trek lore, is the first to enter early talks to board Star Trek 4 since he’s the “lynchpin to the project.” 

Furthermore, apparently Star Trek 4’s script is still being worked on, as the project doesn’t even have a budget in place yet, let alone been officially greenlit. Naturally getting Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and John Cho all back for Star Trek 4 won’t be cheap, but Paramount is reportedly willing to shell out that extra money if it means helping bolster the Paramount+ streaming service, which is where Star Trek 4 would eventually become available. Sadly, this will be the first of the Kelvin-era Star Trek movies not to include Anton Yelchin’s Pavel Chekov, as the actor died on June 19, 2016, just a month before Star Trek Beyond came out.

Although filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Noah Hawley developed their own ideas for Star Trek movies that were ultimately set aside, the project moving forward as Star Trek 4 was originally supposed to be a time travel story featuring Chris Pine’s James Kirk meeting his father, Chris Hemsworth’s George Kirk, who died in 2009’s Star Trek just minutes after his son was born. However, contract negotiations between the two actors’ teams eventually fizzled out reportedly over money, although Hemsworth said in 2019 that he walked away because they hadn’t “landed on a reason to revisit that yet.” S.J. Clarkson has been hired to direct that iteration of Star Trek 4.

As things stand now, WandaVision’s Matt Shakman has been attached to direct Star Trek 4 in its current form since last July. He’ll work off a script written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson, but it’s unclear if this version of the movie has anything in common with its predecessor or if it’s a completely different beast. Either way, evidently Paramount didn’t do a great job communicating with the lead actors about the latest Star Trek 4 plans, so if you’re eager to see these versions of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, McCoy, Scotty and Sulu, cross your fingers that all sides can come to fitting arrangements.

The Star Trek franchise is chugging right along on the television side, but it's more than fair to say the movie side has stagnated in recent years. Star Trek: Beyond came out in 2016, and ever since then, efforts to make Star Trek 4 have struggled. Now fans have received the most promising news yet on the next movie's development, along with the news that Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and the rest of the Kelvin-timeline crew are expected to return. 

News broke from Deadline that Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Karl Urban (Dr. Bones), and John Cho (Sulu) are all in talks to return for Star Trek 4. The news was confirmed by J.J. Abrams at the Paramount Investors Day event, who added that filming on the movie is set to happen later this year. 

One notable exception from the original cast returns is that they'll be without Anton Yelchin, who passed away in 2016. Yelchin played the role of Chekov and made his final appearance as the character in Star Trek: Beyond. It's unknown at this time whether or not another actor will play Yelchin's role or if the movie will find a way to address the character's absence. 

Star Trek 4's plot is unclear at this time, though it's worth noting Paramount ran through a few publicly known ideas in the past. It's possible some of those ideas will make their way into the new movie, yet I wouldn't hold my breath for anything from Quentin Tarantino's pitch. 

One interesting pitch from the past featured a 2018 script that would reunite Chris Pine's Captain Kirk with his late father, played by Chris Hemsworth. Audiences were excited to see the two share a screen, though attempts to navigate a deal with Pine and Hemsworth never worked out. Hemsworth's name wasn't mentioned in the announcement, and with his continued work as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one has to wonder if he'd be available to appear. 

Chris Hemsworth might not be in the mix, though J.J. Abrams did confirm that new characters will appear in the upcoming movie. This is purely speculation, but considering the time it took to get Star Trek 4 to this stage, one might wonder if this film might make efforts to pave the way for a new cast of younger talent that isn't as locked down with their schedules as the stars of the current franchise. One note from Variety mentioned that research from Paramount noted a lasting interest from audiences in the central cast despite the gap between films, so who knows if we'll see a passing of the torch? 

Since filming is set to kick off on Star Trek 4 later this year, it's a good time to get caught up on the franchise. Snag a Paramount+ subscription in order to see all the movies, and maybe check out a few of the new offerings the franchise has on television as well. 

Star Trek Beyond was the last time Trekkies were able to see the franchise in theaters. While the property's presence has grown on television, fans have been craving a big-screen return with the original cast. But Zachary Quinto and the cast have been waiting on the news just like the fans. With the recent announcement of a mystery Star Trek film, Quinto revealed the original cast’s feelings on a sequel.

Since the release of Star Trek Beyond, Zachary Quinto and the cast have dealt with many setbacks. The case for Star Trek 4 has become less of a possibility as the cast has been busy with other projects. But that still hasn’t stop Trekkies and movie audiences from asking about a new installment. Quinto expressed his thoughts on a possible Star Trek Beyond sequel:

Since the first film in the rebooted franchise, Star Trek fans have loved seeing Zachary Quinto play everybody’s favorite Vulcan. Given Spock’s storyline in Star Trek Beyond, fans have been wanting more of his story along with the other Star Trek characters. Zachary Quinto’s performance along with the storylines helped to revive a seemingly dormant franchise under the rise of the MCU and DCEU.

During his interview with Pop Culture, Zachary Quinto was asked about the possibility of a Spock-led film in the vein of the MCU. He admitted to being open to the idea if the time and circumstances permitted it. Quinto said he would love returning to the character if the storytelling was right and necessary.

Zachary Quinto’s words came on the heels of news of a mysterious Star Trek film that popped up on Paramount’s film schedule. The listing sent Trekkies into a frenzy as it has been five years since the release of Star Trek Beyond. Quinto and the cast’s openness to returning to the franchise bode well for a possible Star Trek 4. Years of developmental hell have finally paid off, but only time will tell if Quinto and the cast will return for the new film.

Despite fanfare and acclaim for Star Trek Beyond, the film’s release was marked by tragedy. Before the sequel was released, co-star Anton Yelchin lost his life in an unfortunate accident. His lack of presence during the promotion of the film could be felt as Zachary Quinto and the Star Trek cast had to speak on their late co-star. During promotions, Quinto and the cast seemed indifferent over doing a fourth Star Trek film. But over time, the cast has been more open to returning to the franchise.

But another hiccup in Stark Trek 4 ‘s development was Star Trek Beyond’s underperformance at the box office. The film’s underperformance threw the possibility of a fourth Star Trek into question, especially after both Chrises – Pine and Hemsworth – reportedly walked away from the film due to pay cuts. But the recent announcement meant Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and other cast members may return or another possible reboot might be on the horizon. The mystery Star Trek film is set to arrive on June 9, 2023.

Since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, the Star Trek film series has hit a dead end. The reboot of Gene Roddenberry’s original Enterprise crew developed by J.J. Abrams was greatly embraced by established fans and ushered in newcomers to the franchise when it started in 2009. However, its momentum seems to have gone over the wayside within the past five years. As a fan of Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk and the rest of this rebooted Enterprise crew, I still hope to see the Kelvin timeline progress. If Paramount is out of ideas, there’s a number of great episodes from the original ‘60s series that could serve as inspiration for the next movie.

Since the release of Star Trek Beyond, there’s been a number of legitimate roadblocks in the way of another installment. Initially, Star Trek 4 was going to be a time travel storyline involving Chris Hemsworth returning as James Kirk’s father, but that fell through due to a contract situation. Since then, we’ve heard a number of developing ideas filter through, but none of them are substantially moving forward yet.

One of the most exciting ideas to come out of Star Trek in the last few years is Quentin Tarantino’s R-rated take on the franchise, which would adapt an episode from the original series, “A Piece of the Action.” Even if the Pulp Fiction filmmaker doesn’t make his alleged tenth and last film Star Trek, Paramount should consider adapting these Original Series episodes into bigger ideas.

The Naked Time

A particularly fun storyline the Star Trek film franchise could reboot for the big screen is the fourth Original Series episode ever, “The Naked Time,” which had the Enterprise crew being infected with a virus that lowers the crew’s inhibitions, thus creating madness on the ship. Sulu famously went shirtless and behaved like a swordsman in The Three Musketeers, but other notable happenings within the episode include when Spock becomes infected and his human side runs rampant. “The Naked Time” is a simple idea for an episodic format, but if Star Trek adapted this while the crew is also facing some other problem, it could be a really interesting way for the movie experiment with these characters and to explore the episode’s theme of who we can become without hindrance of logic.

The Enemy Within

Just one episode after “The Naked Time,” Star Trek also explored human psychology in another wacky way with “The Enemy Within,” which had Captain Kirk channeling his own version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when the ship’s transporter malfunctions. In “The Enemy Within,” William Shatner gives his most Shatner-crazed performance when he gets split up into his good and bad side and goes loose on the ship. The concept was treated a bit hilariously in the Original Series, but if adapted into a movie (also with a larger subplot involved), it would be interesting to explore Chris Pine as a good vs. evil captain who becomes an enemy of the Enterprise because two extreme versions of himself are in control.

Shore Leave

Another Season 1 episode that serves as a character study for the Star Trek crew, but takes them off the Enterprise, is called “Shore Leave.” In the 1966 episode, the crew land on a planet that crafts their fantasies into reality on the planet. “Shore Leave” is a great episode for the movie franchise to adapt because it combines the fantasy elements of the original Star Trek with its seminal science fiction structure. “Shore Leave” could also be a great way for Star Trek to inject some horror imagery into its universe and deepen its characters through the crew becoming stuck in their fantasies without knowing their subconscious is trapping them. Think Fantasy Island and LOST meet Star Trek.

Tomorrow Is Yesterday

Star Trek 4 could also play around with its roots in the ‘60s in a really interesting way by adapting “Tomorrow is Yesterday.” The 1967 episode had the Enterprise crew visiting the US Air Force in the then-present day through some mistaken time travel through space. At the time, the episode allowed Star Trek to ground its series in what was happening in the actual world, when the U.S. was very much enamored in the space race. If a future movie took the crew to Earth in the ‘60s, it could be a really interesting commentary on how exploring off-planet has changed since Star Trek’s inception, from our current perspective and from the perspective of an imagined future where Starfleet exists.

The City on the Edge of Forever

Star Trek also explored time travel with its Season 1 finale “The City on the Edge of Forever.” It’s often referred to as the best Star Trek episode of all time, so Trekkies wouldn’t mind revisiting it. In the episode, an accidentally drugged-up McCoy lands on a planet and discovers an archway to any time and place. He ends up going to New York City in the 1930s and changes the timeline. Spock and Kirk go in after him to repair the timeline and track McCoy down. These days, time travel has definitely been explored a lot, but the idea of the “City on the Edge of Forever” could certainly surpass the reaches of Depression Era and Eart,h and take the crew to other planets and times with a larger storyline.

Mirror, Mirror

On the superhero side of things, we’ve been talking a lot about the multiverse, whether that be through Spider-Man’s Spider-Verse or The Flash’s ability to meet multiple Batmans in Flashpoint. Way before that, it was explored on Star Trek with a Season 2 episode called “Mirror, Mirror.” Similar to “The Enemy Within,” the incident of the episode gets set off by a transporter malfunction, but this time, Kirk and his crew find themselves in a parallel universe where the Enterprise is not part of Starfleet. The multiverse is an exciting concept from a Marvel/DC standpoint as is, but in the context of the greater universe and how different cosmic events could affect a “mirror universe,” this would be an awesome idea for Star Trek 4 to delve into.

These are just six episodes out of 79 in the original Star Trek series that might add some intrigue to the film series after years of radio silence from that corner of the franchise. Each of these episodes allow for some world-building that would need to race past its original idea, so either way, Trekkies would be getting something new from a movie, if not several. Wait… did the USS Enterprise get stuck in a black hole again? Sure, CBS All Access has been reviving Star Trek in the television format for the past few years with Discovery, Picard and Lower Decks, but it's been four years of dead signal concerning a followup for Star Trek Beyond.

But that’s not at the fault of the cast involved. Many of the members of the Star Trek crew that were introduced in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film have shown their continued interest in boarding the Starfleet ship for a fourth film over the years. The franchise’s Spock, Zachary Quinto just shared an update with these words:

Since the release of Star Trek Beyond there’s been a number of unexpected asteroids in the way of the big-screen franchising returning to theaters. For one, the Star Trek family suffered the loss of Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin in the matter of a year. On the development side of things, there’s been a few ideas thrown against the wall without anything sticking for too long.

Legion’s Noah Hawley was making the next Star Trek movie for a minute and Quentin Tarantino was contemplating putting his own stamp on the franchise with The Revenant co-writer working with him on an adaptation of the original series episode called “The City on the Edge of Forever.” There was also talk of Chris Hemsworth reuniting with the franchise to play Kirk’s father for a time travel storyline, but there were reportedly issues with pay cuts.

Zachary Quinto’s update to The Talk is a nice bit to hear from the actor who has been embraced by the Star Trek community for his version of Spock. He is being realistic about Star Trek currently being a saturated market as Paramount expands the title for television on CBS All Access, but I don’t see why it could find a place there and back on the big screen.

The franchise’s Captain Kirk, Chris Pine also recently provided his own update on the future of Star Trek echoing some of his first officers comments with this:

Amidst Star Trek plans, Paramount switched up presidents earlier this year with former 20th Century Fox’s Emma Watts becoming the new leader of Paramount. Perhaps after the studio is more settled in its transition, Star Trek will gear back up with new plans for the big screen.

The Star Trek family aches with the news that Ben Cross, who played Sarek in 2009’s reboot, died on Tuesday. The British talent was 72 and leaves an impressive legacy in Hollywood, also notably through his portrayal of Olympic champion Harold Abrahams in 1981’s Chariots of Fire, and Barnabas Collins in the ‘90s Dark Shadows television series. As word spread, Hollywood reacted with tributes to the late actor. Here’s what Zachary Quinto said this:

Zachary Quinto wrote these words alongside an Instagram post featuring a picture of Ben Cross as Sarek in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. The Spock actor sounds like he had a distinctly positive experience with the actor on set. Star Trek was a massive role for Quinto that undoubtedly changed his life, and one key relationship in the film is Spock with his father, Sarek.

Ben Cross was embraced by the Star Trek community after years without the fan-favorite character played by Mark Lenard in the original ‘60s series, who also reprised his role in the subsequent films starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and the rest of the original Enterprise crew, as well as The Next Generation in 1991. TNG actress Marina Sirtis, who played Deanna Troi, took to Twitter to share her condolences too:

In another tweet, Mark Millar also said he remembered telling Ben Cross about how Howard Chaykin’s The Shadow comic used him as a model for his run of the ‘80s series. They googled images of the issues together, and he was “genuinely tickled.” Cross certainly touched many more people in Hollywood than those who have honored him here.

Sadly, the Star Trek community has faced a number of heartbreaking deaths in the past few years, with the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, passing away in 2015 at the age of 83, and the new franchise’s Chekov, Anton Yelchin, passing away in 2016 at the too-young age of 27.

Though the Star Trek film franchise has been dormant since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, Paramount has a number of films in development, and the property is living and breathing with a bunch of exciting original Star Trek shows on CBS All Access. When comic book fans think of Robert Kirkman, the first series they probably think of is The Walking Dead, which isn’t surprising given the popularity of the comic book and AMC drama. But fans may also know that Kirkman is the creator of Image Comics’ Invincible, which is getting an animated adaptation on Amazon Prime. A large portion of the show’s cast has already been revealed, but the show has now picked up two big names in The Walking Dead’s Khary Payton and Star Trek alum Zachary Quinto.

During his Skybound virtual panel, Robert Kirkman officially confirmed that both Khary Payton and Zachary Quinto will join the stacked cast of Invincible as Black Samson and Robot, respectively.

Kirkman also revealed more details about the stacked cast, which already includes Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennet Chris Diamantopolous as Doc Seismic, Walton Goggins as Cecil Steadman, Grey Griffin as Shrinking Rae & Amanda (Monster Girl as Girl), Mark Hamill as Art, Gillian Jacobs as Atom Eve, Melise as Dulpi-Kate, Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Splode, Andrew Rannells as William Clockwell, Kevin Michael Richardson as Mauler 1, Mauler 2 & Monster Girl (as Monster) and Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien. Steven Yuen was previously reported to be playing Mark Grayson with J.K. Simmons and Sandra Oh reportedly being tapped to voice his parents.

Although fans undoubtedly know Khary Payton for his live-action work on The Walking Dead, the veteran actor has been doing voiceover work for years and has numerous credits under his belt. This includes fan-favorite animated series like Ben 10, Codename: Kids Next Door and The Lion Guard. Of course, he’s probably best known for voicing Cyborg in Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go! and DC Super Hero Girls. Payton currently voices Kaldur'ahm/Aquaman on DC Universe’s Young Justice and Wasabi on Disney’s Big Hero 6: The Series.

Zachary Quinto doesn’t have as much voice acting experience as Payton has, but he still does have a few notable roles through Robot Chicken and Big Mouth. And of course, it goes without saying that he brings plenty of talent as an actor, which should be great for the show.

Created by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, Invincible was first published by Image Comics in 2003. The series centers on the character of Markus Grayson, the son of Nolan Grayson, a novelist who is actually the extraterrestrial superhero Omni-Man. After leading a relatively normal life, Mark’s own super powers begin to manifest after his 17th birthday, and he eventually takes on the superhero moniker Invincible and trains under his father.

In the comics, Black Samson was depicted as a superhero member of the Guardians of the Globe, who was cast out after losing his powers but later became a member of the new iteration of the team. Robot would become the leader of the new Guardians of the Globe before the discovery of his true origins would lead him down a dark path. He also has a tragic run-in with Black Samson, which may or may not be explored on the show.

While Invincible may feature a young protagonist, who comes into contact with other young heroes, the comic isn’t exactly for kids. The series can be graphic, and the animated series is aimed at adults. Acquiring adult-oriented superhero properties is becoming a trend for Amazon, which is also home to fan-favorite hit The Boys.

With the additions of Khary Payton and Zachary Quinto, Invincible continues to be on the right path, and it’ll be interesting to see the comic come to life in animated form. As of right now, Invincible does not have an official release date.

Fans of author Stephen King’s work know of the shared universe that his various novels share throughout their various plots. With The Dark Tower serving as the hub of what was once branded the “Connected KINGdom”, novels have crossed over each other’s dimensional rifts from time to time. Most famously, King’s novel IT has referenced and been referenced more than a couple times in his pantheon, and now the series based on his son Joe Hill’s novel, NOS4A2, is getting in on the fun.

And it’s all thanks to Pennywise the Dancing Clown appearing on a very special map, according to the show’s star Zachary Quinto:

Key to the lore of NOS4A2’s universe is the United Inscapes of America, which serve as special stops in the universe of Joe Hill’s writing. Several landmarks of note are the “Lovecraft Keyhole” from Hill’s Locke & Key saga, as well as other locations that NOS4A2 has explored, such as Charlie Manx’s “Christmasland” and heroine Vic McQueen’s “Shorter Way” bridge. You can see this for yourself, in a screencap from the first episode, shown below:

Those stops are creations from the imaginations of characters in NOS4A2 that bleed into the real world, through some sort of interdimensional weirdness. Sure enough, Zachary Quinto’s interview with THR confirmed that included on that map is Pennywise Circus, located right in the great state of Maine.

It’s a clever reference to Stephen King’s work, for sure, but so far it seems to be the only one that NOS4A2 has admitted to as of yet. Again, the United Inscapes of America is more the universal map of the Joe Hill fictional universe, and with past books like Horns and Heart Shaped Box also being referenced, there’s plenty of room to keep this strictly in Hill’s wheelhouse. Something that even Quinto admitted as he continued to discuss the concept:

That being said, it feels like not only a touching tribute between the literary canon of father and son’s works, but it also feels like a possible door between their worlds, should they ever decide to open it. Should it ever come to that, may we suggest a battle between Pennywise and Charlie Manx, to see whomever can claim the most kids as victims?

Star Trek found new life on the big screen when J.J. Abrams brought the franchise back with a new timeline in 2009. That film's success spawned a pair of sequels and we were expecting a fourth film to come along in short order. However, the most recent word is that the film is not currently an active concern for the studio. Having said that, Zachary Quinto certainly hopes that he gets a chance to play Spock again at some point.

When recently asked by Vulture about the status of Star Trek 4, not to be confused with The Voyage Home, Zachary Quinto stated that he had no idea what the plan for the franchise was at this point, though he made it clear that he certainly wants a fourth movie to happen, saying...

Almost as soon as Star Trek Beyond hit theaters we were expecting a fourth film to get the green light. Franchise producer J.J. Abrams was already talking about an idea that would have brought Chris Hemsworth, who had a cameo in the first film as the father of James T. Kirk, back into the series, and everybody seemed very excited. Director S.J. Clarkson was brought on to direct the film and everything appeared to be going smoothly.

However, it seems that because Star Trek Beyond had a somewhat lackluster box office, Paramount Pictures was looking to save money and wanted Chrises Pine and Hemsworth to take pay cuts for the project. Negotiations stalled out, and from there what had seemed to be a promising new movie appears to have fallen apart.

Chris Hemsworth has recently stated that, in the end, he didn't think there was enough of a reason to move forward with the film, and so he decided to walk away from it.

Star Trek as a franchise certainly isn't going anywhere. As Zachary Quinto mentions, Star Trek: Discovery, which includes his character Spock, though played by a different actor, is still keeping the popular brand going. It seems almost certain that we will get more Star Trek on the big screen at some point, but we simply have no idea what form that will take.

Quentin Tarantino has mentioned an idea for a Star Trek movie that looks like it has as good a shot as anything of getting made, though it's unclear if his idea would include the current movie cast or not.

AMC is dialing up another high-concept horror series with the long-gestating supernatural thriller NOS4A2, adapted from the best-selling novel from genre "king" Joe Hill. NOS4A2 will bring to life the wildly creepy villain Charlie Manx, a demonic entity whose semi-immortality relies on stealing children and their souls. Going somewhat against type to portray Charlie is American Horror Story and Star Trek vet Zachary Quinto.

Don't go thinking this was just a by-the-numbers gig for Zachary Quinto, either. The actor brought dedication and ideals of legitimacy to the malice-spreading role of Charlie Manx, and his prep work actually helped shape the overall characterization. Speaking with CinemaBlend about all things NOS4A2, showrunner Jami O'Brien had nothing but kind and complimentary things to say about Quinto.

As viewers will see, and as it's been made apparent in the trailers and promo footage, Charlie Manx's preferred appearance is that of a well-coifed man in his 30s or 40s. However, things start to go dramatically south whenever he's in need of more children to populate his haunted world of Christmasland, where they can be "happy forever." (Anyone dealing with summer heat would also find much solace in winter wonderlands.) Thus, Zachary Quinto gets to play Charlie in various capacities across different timelines, and it sounds like he put a lot of thought into that concept.

Having seen the first six episodes of NOS4A2, I can confirm that Zachary Quinto thoroughly owns the role of Charlie Manx, imbuing the villain with the menace and charisma of a friend trying to get you to get drunk for the first time, or else he'll kill you. It's a performance that works within NOS4A2, but would probably also feel at home in a 1940s production. The timelessness is balanced by Ashleigh Cummings' co-lead Vic McQueen, an of-the-present teen whose tattered home life leads to the discovery of her own supernatural gifts.

Showrunner Jami O'Brien, who cut her teeth at AMC on Hell on Wheels and Fear the Walking Dead, told me there was a specific angle that Zachary Quinto brought to Charlie Manx that helped shape the way O'Brien viewed the villain. Here's how she put it:

In the scheme of things, it's mightily impressive for Zachary Quinto to get namechecked with Joe Hill's novel and graphic novel (illustrated by C. P. Wilson III) in citing the villain's biggest influences for his TV transformation. The notion is natural enough to glean from watching the AMC series, in which Charlie Manx's invasiveness is akin to that of a horror movie monster like Jason or Freddy, as opposed to him tracking his prey as a kidnapper or serial killer might.

Charlie Manx invades both spaces of the world and spaces of the mind. When he arrives somewhere in his unmistakable mode of transport, the Wraith, he's there to get shit done and to make others aware of the shit he's getting done. Charlie probably wouldn't have made it to the age of 140 years old if he approached situations more passively, although he meets his match in Vic McQueen.

Author Joe Hill, who also executive produced the NOS4A2 TV show, told CinemaBlend that Zachary Quinto was just as invested in Charlie's physical performance as he was the emotional and mental aspects. In Hill's words:

As bothersome as it is to watch the genial actor's more hideously evil side in focus for NOS4A2, it's awesome that Zachary Quinto was just as committed to getting gnarly on screen, and boy does he look monstrous from time to time. Though never in an over-the-top way, which is a credit to special makeup designer Joel Harlow and the rest of the makeup and effects teams. It'll definitely take some masterful efforts for anyone to lock down a more horrifying role for Zachary Quinto in the future.

Of course, just because Quinto's Charlie is a deadly nightmare sometimes doesn't mean he isn't also shown in different lights. He does claim to be taking only children from broken homes, which basically makes him the Robin Hood of vampires, right? Charlie can also be quite suave and debonaire when the situation calls for it, even if everything is only temporary. During our talk, Joe Hill reflected on this side of the character, saying:

Given that Charlie Manx is probably the least sympathetic character Zachary Quinto has ever played, the NOS4A2 ghoul will likely leave a bad taste in a lot of viewers' mouths. But it's a bad taste that his fans won't soon be forgetting, especially if AMC keeps NOS4A2 going for multiple seasons the way Jami O'Brien and Joe Hill are hoping.

NOS4A2 Season 1 debuts on AMC on Sunday, June 2, at 10 p.m. ET. Those who subscribe to AMC Premiere, however, can binge the entirety of the first season at once, while also taking in an exclusive digital short.

The official trailer for Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 has arrived, and it's packed with all the action fans crave. It also has another look at The Walking Dead's Dwight, as well as the surprise return of a character we weren't expecting. Take a look at the trailer below, and keep an eye out for that surprise appearance by actor Rubén Blades.

Daniel Salazar is back, and he's got a gun pointed squarely in the direction of the man who shot him a couple seasons back. Strand probably won't be at ease seeing a familiar face in this instance, and chances are Daniel isn't going to let that whole shooting his cheek off incident slide. Where has Daniel been, and why is he back now?

Better question, is the seemingly immortal Daniel going to get revenge on Strand for that shot to the head? Chances are he'll hold a grudge, although one would imagine the two are square considering Daniel tried to leave Strand for dead amongst zombies once. Plus, that cheek healed pretty damn well for how gruesome it looked when he first got shot, so maybe they can put the past behind them?

Daniel's return was a nice surprise, but we can't forget how cool it was to see Dwight as well. After all, the first image we saw of him on Fear The Walking Dead made him out to be one dangerous looking dude. That may still be the case, but are we just going to sit here and pretend that greeting to Morgan wasn't anything other than a guy shocked to see someone from back in the day?

The only real disappointment fans may have with this reunion is that it's more or less a "blink and you'll miss it" part of the trailer. Surely some are going to be miffed by that, although the mystery behind Dwight's re-emergence and what's coming up for his character may be why Fear The Walking Dead limited his exposure in the Season 5 trailer. For those not wishing to rewind, here's that puzzled mug of his right after he recognized Morgan.

One interesting thing about this trailer is that for all its doom and gloom, there's also a very uplifting vibe to it all. The group clearly has landed in a less than ideal situation, but they're still about that mission of helping others and trying to make the world a better place for as many people as they can. Hopefully that plan works out for them, and if not, that cat at least survives whatever shit storm is headed their way.

Fear The Walking Dead's premiere is going to be a horror-filled night on AMC, as the premiere will be chased by the Joe Hill adaptation of NOS4A2 right after. A trailer for the Zachary Quinto featured drama also dropped at WonderCon, and it looks all kinds of spooky.

Be ready to scream this summer, as Fear The Walking Dead returns Sunday, June 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET with NOS4A2 set to premiere right after. For his new TNT mini-series I Am the Night, actor Chris Pine reunited with his Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, who helmed the first two episodes of the mystery series. At the premiere for I Am the Night, Chris Pine had a reunion of another sort with his Star Trek co-star Zachary Quinto. Check out the mini-reunion of the crew of the USS Enterprise below.

While I think many Star Trek fans would prefer the reunion of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto to be one where they are both wearing Starfleet uniforms and bickering over a chosen course of action, we’ll take what we can get. Even without a Starfleet badge adorning their outfits, it is fun to see the Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock actors together in all their premiere finery.

It’s cool to see that these two actors who spent so much time together in the Star Trek films are so supportive of each other, with Zachary Quinto saying how proud he is of Chris Pine. He also says that Chris Pine’s work inspires him “beyond.” If you are the type of person who looks for meaning in things, it’s not quite saying ‘to boldly go’ or ‘live long and prosper’ but you could take that as a subtle nod to their Star Trek history and the last film in that franchise, Star Trek Beyond.

Of course, this mini-reunion is not about Star Trek, it is about Chris Pine’s new show I Am the Night. With regard to that, Zachary Quinto is very complimentary in his Instagram post about the show itself and his former co-star and Captain, Chris Pine. The Spock actor gave I Am the Night a hearty recommendation, calling it “stellar” and indeed some of the early reviews of the series have highlighted Chris Pine’s performance.

I Am the Night is based on true events and tells the story of Fauna Hodel, a teenager who was given away at birth and doesn't dig into her past until a discovery rocks her world and forces her to unravel the mystery of where she came from. During her investigation into her origin, she meets with a down-on-his-luck reporter played by Chris Pine and together they begin to unravel a mystery that leads to Hollywood’s most infamous unsolved murder, the Black Dahlia.

It’s a pulpy role for Chris Pine, coming off of his turn as Robert the Bruce in Netflix’s Outlaw King, but everyone is wondering when a proper Star Trek reunion will happen, specifically onscreen in Star Trek 4. To that end little is certain as the film has went through a winding saga of contract disputes that eventually led to the film seemingly being cancelled.

So the future of Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto’s Commander Spock remains uncertain. Therefore we will have to enjoy mini-reunions of the cast like the one as they remind of us what was and what might hopefully still be in the future.

There's been a lot of talk about Quentin Tarantino's possible Star Trek film. A few details have surfaced about the project, such as rumors that it would be R-rated and that Tarantino might direct. Perhaps the biggest question is how all of this fits in with the current Star Trek franchise and its cast. Is Tarantino pitching an all-new movie or can it work with the current cast that includes Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and Zachary Quinto? All of it sounds like it's still in the planning stages at the moment, as Quinto recently stated that the idea is still being shaped, but it's possible. Quinto said:

Star Trek and movie fans were thrown for a loop with the surprising news that Quentin Tarantino was interested in being a part of a Star Trek movie. Apparently, the writer-director had an idea that he was excited about and pitched it to J.J. Abrams, who produces the new wave of Star Trek movies. The idea was then brought to a writer's room to be workshopped, with Tarantino possibly directing once the script was complete. All of that is pretty exciting, a feeling that Zachary Quinto seems to share.

Quinto, who has portrayed Spock in the last three Star Trek movies, was asked about his involvement with Tarantino's Star Trek movie on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Obviously, nothing is set in stone until the ink is dry on the contract, so Quinto wasn't able to speak with any certainty that he would be in Tarantino's Star Trek. However, he did give a nice progress report on how everything is coming along. According to Quinto, Tarantino's idea is still in the early stages of being turned into a script, and in the meantime, he will be filming his 1960s ensemble movie, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which features Charles Manson and a deep exploration of 1960s Los Angeles. After that, the next movie on Tarantino's schedule could be Star Trek with the current cast.

Again, it's unknown how all of this will eventually turn out, but it is worth noting that before Tarantino got involved, J.J. Abrams was working on a different idea for a fourth Star Trek. The concept reportedly involved Chris Hemsworth returning as James Kirk's dad in a time travel story. It seems likely that this idea isn't a part of what Tarantino has in mind, so it's possible that the time-travel plot could get scrapped or postponed for a later movie.

The Star Trek movie franchise is lost in space at the moment. Despite being a long-running and beloved property, the future of the Star Trek films is unclear after the lackluster box office performance of 2016's Star Trek: Beyond. The direction a fourth film could go in is the subject of much speculation, especially with the wild card of a possible Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie in play. As it searches for the future of the franchise, Paramount is apparently not putting all its eggs in one basket. According to franchise star and current Spock, Zachary Quinto, there are possibly three different scripts currently in the works, as he explained:

It certainly sounds like the Star Trek stars are as in the dark as the rest of us at the moment. The fact that there are multiple scripts being worked on for the next Star Trek film is unsurprising. Multiple scripts being commissioned is nothing unusual, and Paramount undoubtedly wants all the best ideas for the future of the Starship Enterprise. These three may not even be the only ones. What's interesting is that the Tarantino factor could vastly change the equation on where Star Trek 4 could go. This doesn't seem like a situation where the studio has a basic idea where it wants to go and has commissioned several scripts for the best take; this sounds more like Paramount is open to any and all suggestions, no matter how radical.

Simon Pegg and Doug Jung wrote the script for the critically acclaimed, yet underseen Star Trek: Beyond, a film that even appealed to Trekkies critical of the newer Star Trek J.J.-verse. So while audiences would be lucky to see another one of their takes, I wonder if Beyond's box office will hurt their chances. At one point there was talk of Star Trek 4 seeing the return of Chris Hemsworth's George Kirk in some sort of time travel adventure, so it is possible that either Pegg & Jung or the other group of writers is working with that premise while the other group works on something different. Though if we're being honest, the real question mark here is the Quentin Tarantino film simply because of how different we imagine it could be.

If Quentin Tarantino does come aboard for a Star Trek film, that film stands a strong chance of being rated R, basically ensuring that it would be markedly different than any of the other possible takes. Zachary Quinto expressed excitement at the possibility of working with Quentin Tarantino, a sentiment shared and voiced by his co-stars. But as Zachary Quinto notes in his interview with ET Canada, Quentin Tarantino is off making Once Upon A Time In Hollywood at the moment. There is a writer's room workshopping Tarantino's idea, but there is seemingly no guarantee that Tarantino will direct, and then there's the question of how far out Paramount is willing to push production to snag the beloved filmmaker.

Unlike when the Star Trek film franchise was rebooted in 2009, the property is now back home on TV in Star Trek: Discovery, so there is a fix for Trekkies out there while the movie side of things gets sorted out. Hopefully the multiple scripts being worked on indicates that Paramount is looking for the best possible story and path forward for the franchise, even if it takes a little longer to get to the big screen. Last summer, Star Trek Beyond released in theaters to a fair amount of success. It wasn't a series high but it had the most critical praise, which seemed to give J.J. Abrams and the studio enough confidence to get to work on a fourth Star Trek film. Outside of the fact that the film will deal with time travel, we haven't heard any updates on the film's process. Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the new generation of Trek movies, can confirm that there haven't been any new announcements, but that he and the rest of the cast are ready and rarin' to go.

Ah, the old "we need a script before we can actually film the movie." The untitled Star Trek 4 is currently in development, and working on a story for the next entry in the series. Zachary Quinto confirmed that the script is currently being written, which is why there have been no big announcements on Star Trek 4 in a while. Nailing down the plot is definitely a top priority, so no one can blame them for taking their time with it.

Zachary Quinto also told ET Online in an interview that he believes the main cast would be happy to return for a fourth installment. Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg have all played the iconic roles of the crew of the Enterprise since 2009's Star Trek, and it sounds like they all like being a part of these movies. If a fourth film is announced, it will likely be accompanied by cast confirmation too, which is always nice to get.

As for what the plot could be about, it was originally reported that the film will feature time travel (which is hard to write) and would introduce James Kirk to his father, who died right at the beginning of Star Trek. A pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth played the role, and has apparently had the idea of the movie pitched to him by J.J. Abrams.

There's been a lot of news surrounding the reveal that Hikaru Sulu is gay in the Kelvin Timeline of Star Trek films. Sulu actor John Cho stated that Star Trek Beyond would show Sulu with his husband and their child, which has been met with somewhat controversial responses. George Takei, who originated the role Sulu in the original series and is himself a gay man, voiced his displeasure over the change. Simon Pegg, co-writer of the screenplay and one of the people who came up with the idea, politely disagreed with Takei. Now Spock actor Zachary Quinto is getting into the mix, and he wishes Takei saw it differently.

Yesterday Sulu became the first openly gay character in all of Star Trek. And while George Takei is proud that homosexuality is being represented in a series known for being inclusive, he felt that it would have been better to create an original gay character. Making Sulu gay, a character who was historically heterosexual, he argued was an unnecessary twist on Gene Roddenberry's original vision. Zachary Quinto, who is also a member of the LGBT community, disagrees. Speaking with Pedestrian.TV, Quinto said that any positive showing of gay characters in film is a good thing.

Both men make good points, and no one is really "wrong" in this argument. Zachary Quinto does make a good argument, stating that the Kelvin Sulu is different from the classic version and it doesn't affect the original series in any way (but try explaining that to a casual fan). The "reveal" of Sulu's sexuality is not supposed to be a big deal, and is simply a part of his personal life when he's not piloting a spaceship. There also seems to be a misunderstanding that Sulu is coming out of the closet, but as far as the movies are concerned, he was never in the closet to begin with. His sexuality was just never brought up before because Sulu was never a very big focus in the films.

This comes right after the comments Simon Pegg made defending the decision. Pegg argued that, while introducing a new character who happens to be gay is a great thing to do, that character might have been defined by his or her sexuality, rather than their actual character. It made more sense to Pegg to reveal a pre-existing character is gay so that the audience is "unaffected by any prejudice."

It's always nice to see people in the industry who disagree with each other, but are still polite and respectful. Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin and will be arriving in theaters very soon on July 22.

The loss of Anton Yelchin in a random car accident was a shock to everybody. It's clear that those who knew him are still having trouble dealing with it. Star Trek Beyond 's Zachary Quinto was a recent guest on late night TV as part of the promotion of the new film, and the actor seemed truly at a loss when trying to talk about the tragedy. It's clear that he viewed the man who played Chekov not only as a colleague but also as a friend.

When Zachary Quinto came out on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the conversation went almost immediately to the host offering his condolences to Quinto for the death of Anton Yelchin. Seeing the actor try to talk about it gets a little emotional. What's worse is that Quinto points out that the release of Star Trek Beyond was already going to be an emotional experience, since it was going to be the first Star Trek movie released since the death of Leonard Nimoy last year.

It's clear from Zachary Quinto's comments that the cast of the Star Trek movies are more than simply actors working together. The man who plays Spock points out that the first new Star Trek movie was started in 2007, which means that these actors have been working together for nearly a decade. Due to the fact that Star Trek has such a massive fan base, these actors are very much attached to these roles. This likely connects them all together more than you'd likely see from most casts. We're sure we'll be thinking about Anton Yelchin's loss as soon as the actor comes on screen for the first time in Star Trek Beyond. We'll miss seeing him as Chekov in the future, but we'll also miss all the other roles that he'll never get to play.

It's only a few more weeks until Star Trek Beyond, and details about the plot have slowly but surely started to rise up to the surface. We know that the crew of the Enterprise will have been exploring space for a few years and are starting to feel antsy with cabin fever. How that will affect them and their relationships to each other is still unclear, but breaking down the crew seems to be a pretty big focus of the movie. Good thing Zachary Quinto has taken pity on our poor souls and has revealed some interesting details on what will be going on in Spock's even tempered head. It seems that the usually sure of himself Spock won't be so stoic anymore.

Zachary Quinto and his Star Trek co-star Zoe Saldana were recently on Spike's Lip Sync Battle and Entertainment Weekly was able to catch up with the two on set and ask them some Star Trek questions. Specifically, EW asked what challenges were facing their characters and if it would affect their on-screen relationship at all. Quinto revealed that Spock will be going through an "existential moment" and that he's "at a crossroads between his obligation to his Starfleet and his Vulcan roots."

Zachary Quinto's referring to the 2009 Star Trek reboot wherein Spock's homeworld Vulcan was destroyed by the villain via a black hole. Leonard Nimoy's Spock has been helping with the rebuilding, but it seems like it's Quinto's Spock's turn to lend a hand. It sounds like Spock isn't sure of his place in the universe, and will be making a choice between his biological family and his Federation family. That sounds like some pretty good Star Trek conflict. Spock spends a good chunk of the movie with Karl Urban's McCoy, so maybe the good doctor can help Spock sort out all his feelings.

To give a little hint of what Spock will be going through, here is the latest trailer for Star Trek Beyond. It features much more Enterprise destruction than Spock feelings, though.

Star Trek Beyond is directing by Justin Lin from a screenplay penned by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. The film will hit theaters this summer on July, 22.

The cast of the Enterprise is heading into uncharted territories of deep space in Star Trek Beyond, and that means exotic locations will be needed. After filming in Vancouver, Canada, production moved to Dubai, where they will film for 13 days around the city and in studio space. What will this location serve? As the cast and crew teased during a press conference, it’s the world of tomorrow.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), Karl Urban (Bones), and Idris Elba (the unannounced villain of the film) will be setting up shop for scenes that include 200 extras. Star Trek Beyond producer Jeffrey Chernov said during the press conference that they came to Dubai searching for the future, and they found it.

He also said that both the script dictating the location and the location dictating the script led the crew to Dubai.

Pine described the locale as "futureland," an environment that looks like "what tomorrow would be." Meanwhile, actor and script co-writer Pegg said the Star Trek series tries to imagine a conflict-free world, while Elba say Dubai as "a gateway to new cultures."

Dubai has served as the filming location for films like Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (Tom Cruise climbed up the side of the world’s tallest tower) and George Clooney’s Syriana, while the United Arab Emirates played host recently to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. J.J. Abrams, who directed the previous two Star Trek films, used the Abu Dhabi desert to film the planet of Jakku.

Justin Lin directs Star Trek Beyond, which also features Zoe Saldana (Uhura), John Cho (Sulu), Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sofia Boutella, Joe Taslim, and Lydia Wilson. Photos and video showing production on the Vancouver set leaked out and revealed Boutella as an unnamed new white-skinned alien, who is reportedly a lead role in the film. We also got a look at the new Starfleet uniforms, and the crew cautiously exiting their spacecraft amid a green-screened backdrop. Pegg said he hoped to tap into the Star Trek TV series with this story, which is rumored to be picking up well into the Enterprise’s five-year voyage into deep space. It’s also thought that Elba will play a Klingon in the film after the race made an appearance in Star Trek Into Darkness and teased further involvement in the future. However, Paramount has been keeping nearly all details under wraps and has yet to reveal an official plot.

Star Trek Beyond is scheduled for release on July 22, 2016, having been moved from its July 8 slot.

Much like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, plot details for Star Trek Beyond are still largely under wraps. Though we know the crew of the Enterprise will voyage into deep space, we don’t know what will happen to them. With the new day comes a new tidbit about the third installment of the rebooted franchise, and it looks like this one will be different than the previous installments, even if it’s only in terms of Spock and Kirk. 

Star Trek and Stark Trek Into Darkness honed in on Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto’s Spock, even though most of the characters got at least some time in the spotlight. For Star Trek Beyond, however, the Vulcan won’t be spending a lot of time with his buddy, turning his attention to Karl Urban’s Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy instead. Quinto revealed this during an interview with The Telegraph. He elaborated by saying:

Bones seems to have a closer relationship with Kirk, as the two first met while boarding the shuttle for the Starfleet academy. It’ll be a nice change of pace for both Spock and Bones, as one is blunt and calculating, and the other more emotionally driven. Hopefully this means we’ll also be seeing more of Bones this time around. 

Star Trek Beyond also stars Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), John Cho (Sulu), Sofia Boutella, Joe Taslim, Lydia Wilson, and the newly cast Idris Elba. Considering the full extent of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Khan role wasn’t officially revealed for Into Darkness before hand, it shouldn't come as a surprise that we still don’t know much about Elba’s character. However, he did say that he too shares a lot of scenes with Spock, who now seems to be a more and more prominent character. At one point it was thought Elba would play a Klingon, given how they popped up in Into Darkness, teasing a potential reoccurrence down the road. However, Pegg, who took over scripting duties with Doug Jung, stated publicly that Elba is not a Klingon. 

Elsewhere, we saw set photos leak from the set, revealing the new uniforms of the Enterprise crew in their entirety, after director Justin Lin revealed the new Starfleet logo. A new white-skinned alien was also shown to be in their company, though the specific details on this scene are unknown at this time. 

Star Trek Beyond will hit theaters on July 8, 2016. In the meantime, the cast and crew are continuing their Omaze charitable campaign. Fans get the chance to win a role in the film by supporting a number of organizations with their donations. Quinto and the cast dedicated this week to the late Leonard Nimoy, the actor who originated the character of Spock and who appeared in the previous two Trek films before passing away. 

Leonard Nimoy may have gone into the Beyond, but his presence is still felt today. As part of Star Trek 3’s To Boldly Go campaign to support nine global organizations, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine and the rest of the film’s cast have offered a dedication to the actor who originated Spock. The Stark Trek: To Boldly Go Omaze campaign seeks to raise money for the organizations Brave Beginnings, Camp Sunshine, Direct Relief, Heaven Homes, KidsCan, Koreatown Youth & Community Center, Make-A-Wish, Time Is Precious, and St. Jude’s Research Hospital. The latter was close to Nimoy’s heart, which is why this week is dedicated to the organization leading the way in child cancer research.

Zachary Quinto, who portrays a younger version of Spock in the Star Trek films since 2009, narrates the video, which features behind-the-scenes footage Nimoy on the set of the recent Star Trek films. Capping off the brief look at his time reprising the character is a shot of the Star Trek Beyond cast. Pine, Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and franchise newcomer Idris Elba all held up their hands in the iconic "Live Long and Prosper" gesture.

Leonard Nimoy passed away on February 27, 2015 at his home in Los Angeles’ Bel-Air. He was 83 years old and his surviving wife, Susan, said his death was a result of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He was 82 when he revealed his diagnosis.

A month before Nimoy’s death, he sent a check for $10,000 to St. Jude’s. Marlo Thomas, St. Jude’s national outreach director, wrote on Facebook, "Even in his very hard, least days he was thinking of how to help others." Anyone who chooses to donate to the organization through the Star Trek Omaze campaign will be entered to win a walk-on role for the third film in the current film run. The campaign ends in just over a week’s time.

Justin Lin of Fast and Furious 6 directs Star Trek Beyond, since J.J. Abrams is busy with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Plot details are still under wraps for the most part, but we know that Beyond will be see the crew of the Enterprise on their classic voyage into deep space. Photos from the set leaked out recently have revealed new uniforms for the crew, as well as a new white-skinned alien in their company (played by Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Sofia Boutella). Meanwhile, Elba’s character is said to play a large part in the film, and the actor said he shares scenes with Quinto’s Spock.

Production is currently under way on Star Trek Beyond, which is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.

Major spoilers from Hitman: Agent 47 and the ending will be discussed, so proceed at your own risk.

It’s seems pretty clear from chatting with producer Adrian Askarieh that the plan for Hitman: Agent 47 was for it to become a larger franchise. At the time Paul Walker was cast in the title role, large units of the video game series were being sold both domestically and internationally, and Walker was seeing massive success with Fast and Furious 6. As the film sits now — with a lead cast of Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, and Zachary Quinto, as well as poor reviews from critics — it’s unclear where this movie may or may not go. That said, Askarieh says there’s a plan in place should ticket sales warrant a sequel.

We spoke to the producer, who worked on both Agent 47 and the 2007 Hitman with Timothy Olyphant, in New York for a press junket. When discussing sequel possibilities for this film, he said in part,

This "general" adaptation that he refers to stems from an earlier response he gave to the relationship between comic book movies and video game adaptations. He said the latter should take queues from the former; Marvel and DC are "adapting generally key and iconic storylines." Askarieh specifically cited Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which pulled elements from the comic book story arc of the same name, but had a surprise waiting in the wings, which seemed to use plot points from the Secret Warriors story. This is how the filmmakers approached Hitman, said Askarieh.

So with that in mind, where will the Hitman: Agent 47 sequel take us, should the studio green light another? This is where we get into massive spoiler territory — the end of the film sees both Agent 47 (Friend) and Katia van Dees, an original character made for the film played by Ware, confronted on a rooftop by Agent 48, another clone from the Agent Program. Elsewhere, the mid-credits scene shows that Quinto’s John Smith, thought to have been electrocuted to death, is still alive. Furthermore, he’s sporting blonde hair, which video game fans will know refers to a classic villain of the universe called The Albino.

When I asked Quinto about whether he is contractually obligated to return for more Hitman movies, he said he thinks it’s "always premature to talk about sequels before a movie comes out." Though, he did say he knew about his character’s trajectory from the very beginning. Askarieh was a bit more forthcoming, describing the character as Hitman’s Joker. As a product of a rival Agent Program, he constantly needs to prove to himself that he's better than Agent 47. Askrarieh said:

The mid-credits scene and the film's ending perfectly set up a general direction for a sequel, should the film move forward. Though, perhaps there's a Winter Soldier-esque twist under the surface. A sequel has not been announced, and Hitman: Agent 47 debuted in the fourth spot at the box office during its opening weekend, which is not a good sign. However, we didn't think we'd be getting another Hitman movie after the 2007 film, and look where we are now.

Zachary Quinto plays a not-so-good guy in Hitman: Agent 47. That’s not really a spoiler, though. The trailers for the film let that one slip out early on, but we didn’t know just how bad a guy he actually was. If you’re unfamiliar with the world of the original video games — which, admittedly, I wasn’t before seeing the film — then the ending of Agent 47 might have you scratching your head. Luckily, the producer and cast were on hand during a recent press day to help us answer some pivotal questions.

Hitman: Agent 47 stars Rupert Friend as the title character. A product of the now ended Agent Program, he is one of many clones genetically enhanced to become the world’s best killer. He encounters Katia van Dees (played by Hannah Ware) and the two set out to undo a rival organization led by a man named Le Clerq (Avengers: Age of Ultron star Thomas Kretschmann). Le Clerq is attempting to restart the Agent Program, and Quinto’s John Smith is a product of these efforts. Though Smith is a formidable threat, Le Clerq needs Dr. Litvenko (Ciaran Hinds), the man behind the original program, to complete his work.

Agent 47 has a couple of face-offs with Smith, but their last encounter sees the villain electrocuted and left for dead. However, if you stayed in your seats to watch the mid-credits stinger, you see the camera zoom over Smith’s body, now with blonde hair, to reveal he’s still alive. This is the origin of The Albino.

"He’s kind of like Agent 47’s Joker," producer Adrian Askarieh told Cinema Blend in describing the character. The Albino, called Mark Parchezzi III in the games, is much like Agent 47; he too is a clone, made by a rival Agent Program, with a comparable skill set to the games’ title character. As Askarieh described,

Elsewhere, I spoke to Zachary Quinto, the actor behind John Smith/The Albino in the film. Though he says the mid-credits scene was shot during the middle of production — he was fitted with a bald cap, as opposed to dying his hair blonde — he knew from the beginning that this was the ultimate trajectory for his character’s arc. "Who knows what that means?" he said. "We’ll see." Watch the full video with his reaction below.

We’ll have more on what the possibilities for a potential sequel are shortly, but in the meantime, Hitman: Agent 47 is currently playing in theaters.

Marvel Studios made the comic book movie adaptation the big thing in Hollywood. Starting with the first Iron Man and going up all the way to the most recent Ant-Man, it proved that this niche can be a billion-dollar industry. Now, it’s time for video game adaptations to prove their might. Hitman: Agent 47 is the latest in a new wave of games making their way to the big screen, and, according to the film’s producer, the genre as a whole needs to learn a thing or two from the giants that came before.

I recently sat down with Adrian Askarieh the producer of both this film and the original Hitman movie of 2007. He recently told Forbes that video game adaptations are the next big trend in Hollywood, and he elaborated even further on the subject when I questioned him about deciding what elements of the game universe to bring into the movie.

Hitman: Agent 47 attempts to do the same in taking the rules and lore surrounding its source material and applying to a new character. Askarieh said,

Elsewhere, I spoke with the film’s three main actors — Rupert Friend (Agent 47), Ware and Zachary Quinto (John Smith). According to Friend, video game adaptations already have an instinctive advantage. He said that video games are financially larger than films and, over the years, have become just as "multi-layered" and "in-depth" as films. As he explains, "you’ve almost created the world already" even before the adaptation phase. However, in echoing Askarieh’s statements, "they’re just springboards." Hitman: Agent 47 hits theaters this Friday, August 21.

Not only is this video a pretty good time, where you get to see all the core cast members together again, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, and Karl Urban, all being weirdoes, but it teases some stuff about the movie as well. They’re obviously on the set, which means this is our first real look at Star Trek Beyond, though, to be honest, it looks a lot like the Enterprise from the first two movies.

Pegg, who we know co-wrote the script with Doug Jung, indicates that, should you win and wind up on set, you’ll encounter some new characters. He likely means Idris Elba’s villain, but could include Sofia Boutella’s as yet unknown character, one of the other potential characters we’ve heard rumors about, like Bones’ ex-wife or a tough rival starship captain, or perhaps someone else entirely.

While it’s not a surprise that Idris Elba is on set, we’ve known he’s going to be in the movie for some time, this is our first look at him in context, and it’s cool to see interacting with other cast members. Also, I never knew that I wanted to see Idris Elba breakdance on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, but now I can check that off of my list of life goals.

From what we know about the plot of Star Trek Beyond, it picks up with the crew of the Enterprise in the midst of their traditional five-year voyage of exploration, which will be a welcome change from the Earth-centric stories of the last two films. Currently filming, Star Trek Beyond is scheduled to boldly go into theaters on July 8, 2016.

We’re almost exactly a year away from Star Trek Beyond, the third installment in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, and we don’t really know much about the movie. This time around, Idris Elba plays the new big bad, and the actor just revealed a sprinkling of new details, mostly involving one iconic character he’ll share the screen with.

Talking to TV3, the 42-year-old actor comes across as super excited to be a part of the Star Trek family, and is especially pumped about some upcoming scenes in particular. He said:

Obviously, this doesn’t tell us all that much about Elba’s character. Okay, it doesn’t actually tell us anything about that, but it will be cool to see Elba and Quinto go head to head on screen. That’s worth getting excited about. The Thor star is known for the intensity he brings to his roles, while Quinto’s take on Spock has a wry edge, and this combination should prove to be a lot of fun to watch.

Since the very beginning, the prevalent rumor has been that the Klingons will be the main villains in Star Trek Beyond. This is something that pleased many devotees of the franchise, as the fan favorite race hasn’t shown up in any meaningful way in the rebooted universe. Basically, we’ve been waiting for that to happen.

Early drafts of the script that people claimed to have read definitely included the Klingons in a significant antagonistic capacity, at least according to internet scuttlebutt—make of that what you will. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Idris Elba plays a Klingon. The scripts people saw were early versions, when Roberto Orci was still on board as both writer and director. He has since parted ways with Paramount over the direction of the Star Trek franchise—he remains a producer, but has little creative input. Star Simon Pegg took over the scripting duties with Doug Jung, and he has publicly said that Elba is not a Klingon.

Granted, we still remember the "Benedict Cumberbatch is not Khan" debacle from Star Trek Into Darkness, so we have to take everything with a grain of salt. Still, Pegg and Jung only turned in their draft right before filming began, and Pegg said they made drastic changes to the already extant script, cutting huge chunks, adding even more, and reshaping the whole thing. At this point there’s no telling what the story entails.

Whatever the true nature of his character, Idris Elba, as a long time fan, is plenty stoked to be aboard. He said:

Now directed by Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin, Star Trek Beyond is currently filming in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and as far as we know, the story still picks up with the crew of the Enterprise in the midst of their legendary five-year mission to explore new worlds. This is something else that fans have been waiting for.

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 8, 2016, just in time to celebrate the franchise’s 50th anniversary (The Original Series premiered in September 1966).

The third installment in the rebooted Star Trek series has just gotten underway, but Paramount already has made a move that solidifies the franchise for the future… and made the two centerpiece actors of the series a lot richer.

THR quotes sources that say that Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, who play Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock respectively, have renegotiated their deals to now include Star Trek 4. With the move comes raises, with new salaries of about $6 million for each actor – significant increases of what they made for Star Trek and its sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness. The trade reports that Pine earned $600,000 for his role in the initial Trek movie, primarily because no one knew if J.J. Abrams’ timeline reset would work. He was pair $1.5 million for Into Darkness, and will make an alleged $3M for Star Trek Beyond. The number just keeps climbing as the franchise soldiers on.

THR maps out what is pretty obvious, stating that Paramount was in a tough spot because the members of its Star Trek cast are only getting more successful and, as a result, more expensive. Aside from Pine, who has appeared in Jack Ryan reboots and Horrible Bosses 2, the new Trek family has to eventually afford Karl Urban, Simon Pegg (who is co-writing Star Trek Beyond), John Cho, Anton Yelchin and – wait for it – Zoe Saldana, who has Marvel and James Cameron vying for her time. The actress has roles in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and multiple Avatar sequels that will be demanind her time. If Paramount wants her to keep playing Uhura, they are going to have to pay her, in similar ways to how they are not paying Pine and Quinto.

Star Trek Beyond recently began shooting, with Fast & Furious franchise director Justin Lin at the helm. We don’t know a lot about the story for the third movie in the rejuvenated franchise, but Simon Pegg has been telling the press that it has to go with the crew of the Enterprise exploring far-reaching intergalactic territories – as exploration was a key component of the original television series and the movies that they inspired. This is interesting, however. If the studio now knows that a fourth movie is in play (and all but guaranteed), could the ending of Star Trek Beyond address the direction of Star Trek 4, as well? The future seems brighter than we might have anticipated.

The upcoming third entry in the revitalized, intensified and sexified Star Trek cinematic universe has apparently started shooting. The film, presumably titled Star Trek Beyond, has seen some of its stars herald their impeding return to the bridge of the Enterprise with some social media posts that do no less than whet the appetites of fans clamoring to once again "boldly go."

Perhaps the most vocal of the returning cast members is Zachary Quinto, whose recent Trek-centric Instagram contributions have shown themselves to be both introspective and emotional as he gets ready to reprise his inherited role as Spock for the first time since the sad passing of originator, Leonard Nimoy earlier this year. Quinto’s relationship with Nimoy was quite demonstrably both a mentorship and a clear friendship, as the two Spocks seemed to share a rather heartfelt bond that went well beyond the prosthetic pointy ears. In the above pic, Quinto appears in deep Vulcan-like meditative thought, as he appears to be channeling Spock, waiting for the character to, as he puts it, "emerge."

The photo from Quinto posted above is, perhaps the closest thing we’re getting to an insider look at Star Trek Beyond. The extreme closeup selfie of Quinto’s face reveals what appear to be freshly-shaven eyebrows, shaped to give that signature Spock-like Vulcan curve, with some of the removed remnants still stuck on his cheek. The look in his eye is nothing less than serious as the U.S.S. Enterprise’s esteemed recalcitrantly logical science officer is all but ready to hit the bridge to address the latest threat to the galaxy.

Of course, co-star Zoe Saldana, who plays Spock’s inner-office romance of sorts (in this universe, anyway) in communications officer Lieutenant Uhura, also went public with a bit of a teaser, taking to Twitter to post a photo of herself sitting in her trailer; presumably preparing to make her imminent onset debut.

It’s certainly good to see Star Trek Beyond finally getting things rolling. Much of the recent news cycle surrounding the film has focused on the somewhat controversial aspect of the recently re-written script by the film’s co-star Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. Besides vague ideas describing the tone, next to nothing is known about the film. However, Pegg has recently gone on record numerous times, expressing his intentions to apparently veer away from the current franchise’s frenetic, action-centric nature towards the more traditional exploration motifs, while avoiding the sequel becoming, as he put it, "a little too Star Trek-y." A recurring theme that comes up in those intentions points to the original series’ depicted premise of the Enterprise’s "five year mission" to explore the galaxy.

Of course, that is by no means any indication that this film will be a sleepy space odyssey. In fact, the film is apparently looking to ambitiously expand the limits of the mythos. The film can cite exciting additions to the cast like the celebrated Brit badass, Idris Elba, who is attached to the film as the yet-to-be-identified antagonist. Additionally, the Kingsman: The Secret Service femme-fatale, Sofia Boutella has jumped on board the film for an unidentified role, which will certainly look to be as devastatingly memorable.

Star Trek Beyond (presuming that is the title), with Fast & Furious series director Justin Lin at the helm, is currently set to assume standard orbit at theaters on July 8, 2016.

There are few series returning this year that are more anticipated than Hannibal, and NBC didn’t help matters by giving Season 3 a summer premiere rather than the spring debuts of years past. But the delay has allowed creator Bryan Fuller to build this impeccable cast even more, and it’s hard to argue with that. Fans can now expect to see Star Trek star Zachary Quinto popping up during the third season.

Quinto joins a sizeable list of new actors heading to Hannibal for Season 3. Unfortunately, however, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be playing a huge role in the narrative. According to EW, Quinto will guest star as a patient of Gillian Anderson’s Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier, who will be a regular character in Season 3. They say he’ll “appear in at least one episode,” but we’d like to play the optimism card in hoping that he’s around for more than that.

But even if Quinto only gets a single crack at this, it could still have a profound effect on the story. Part of Bedelia’s history involves a former patient attacking her (and swallowing his tongue in the process). The patient was then killed in part by the Bedelia/Hannibal tag team, so if Quinto is indeed playing that character, we can expect his appearance to be in a flashback.

In fact, I’m almost certain that this is the role Quinto is playing. Considering we last saw Bedelia traveling in a plane with an on-the-run Hannibal, it doesn’t seem like she will be picking up new patients any time soon. And it’s not like she’s got a mile-wide list of current ones. I’m guessing that we’ll be getting a deeper look into Bedelia’s psychology in Season 3, and this mystery patient is a major influence in that respect.

Now if they could just work in Quinto’s Bloody Face character from American Horror Story: Asylum. He’d certainly feel at home with Hannibal.

Currently found on NBC’s The Slap, Quinto previously worked with Fuller on Heroes. Neither of them will be back for Heroes: Reborn, though. I can’t complain about that decision, since Hannibal is so much better.

When Hannibal returns this summer, viewers will get to meet other new characters like Richard Armitage’s Francis “TheTooth Fairy” Dolarhyde, Nina Arianda’s Molly Graham, Glenn Fleshler’s Dr. Cordell Doemling, Fortunato Cerlino’s Rinaldo Pazzi and Tao Okamoto as handmaiden Chiyoh. Not to mention Joe Anderson replacing Michael Pitt as Mason Verger. June just can’t get here fast enough.

One of the more interesting things to arise from the moment that J.J. Abrams took over the Star Trek franchise in 2009 was the apparent real life friendship developed between the two Spocks. In the film, extraordinary circumstances created the introspective situation where the younger Spock played by Zachary Quinto and the older Spock, generally referred to as "Spock Prime," reprised by the late Leonard Nimoy would meet in an ultimate payoff of a scene. However, it seems that the paternal friendship dynamic we saw between the two Spocks was mirrored in reality. It’s a concept that is certainly reflected in Quinto’s touching, bittersweet tribute to the late Nimoy.

In his poignant essay to the late Nimoy, Zachary Quinto explains how the guidance of Nimoy, the original Spock, came to define not only his own experiences as Spock, but a calm, dignified outlook on life that he will carry with him throughout his own days. As Quinto notes in his tribute,

Apropos to the scene from Star Trek (2009) when Quinto’s young Spock first sees the back of the head of Nimoy’s Spock Prime and shouts "father," their friendship also paralleled a paternal dynamic; something driven home by the fact that Quinto was only a child when he lost his own father. While it was a relationship that began with Nimoy simply providing guidance in regards to handling the Spock character, it apparently grew into a mentorship that ran much deeper. According to Quinto, their discussions were diverse, but "very organic," yet managed to achieve "a depth," despite not trying for such poignance.

Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy’s non-Spock chemistry was probably best immortalized in a 2013 Audi commercial in which the two, while clearly friends, compete against each other in a race to further compete in golf. It was a lighthearted bit that managed to convey the idea that the two Spocks were playfully competitive with each other, culminating in a hilarious, Trekkie-pleasing, "who’s your daddy?" moment where Nimoy manages to sneak in a Vulcan nerve pinch, sending Quinto to the pavement.

According to reports, Zachary Quinto quickly flew back to LA to speak at his funeral and concludes his profound tribute with the line, "The world is a better place for having had Leonard Nimoy in it, and I am a better man to be sure." We couldn't agree more.

The first Hitman: Agent 47 trailer has landed online with guns blazing. There’s CGI-heavy exploding cars, hot chicks and a Terminator-esque assassin. Homeland star Rupert Friend fits the bill as the title villain in this feature film based in the realm of the classic video game. Check it out below!

As the Hitman: Agent 47 trailer details, an elite, assassin is just one of 46 other clones who have all been genetically enhanced with super strength, stamina, intelligence... you name it! However, a mega corporation plans to unlock the secrets of his past in order to create an even more destructive army of killers, so he must team up with a woman who may or may not hold the key to bringing them down.

The first footage tries to make it seem like Agent 47 is out to kill this woman named Katia van Dees (played by Hannah Ware), which gives it a very Terminator-meets-Bourne vibe. We were half expecting Friend to go all Silver Surfer on us and turn his body into that glistening, gooey T-1000 insides. However, Zachary Quinto's John Smith is the one telling Ware she’s the one he’s after because her father is the creator of the Agent program. That seems to suggest that Quinto will be the villain…once again. But it’s ok, because it looks like Agent 47 is going to shoot them into spinning airplane turbines.

The original video game saw Agent 47 as a professional hitman for ICA, the International Contract Agency. He’s been hired to kill a number of targets all over the world by a single client. When he goes to execute his final subject, he discovers his origins as a clone. The film version, however, is not an adaptation of this storyline, but rather a sequel to its events.

Though we’re excited to see this world come to life on the big screen, the trailer has us less than enthusiastic. Friend looks made to play the part of Agent 47, but the trailer is filled with CGI-fueled stunts and they look cheap. Perhaps it’ll all look better on a larger screen. Furthermore, the debut of the trailer is tinged with sadness. Hitman: Agent 47 was originally planned to be a vehicle for Fast and Furious star Paul Walker. After he died in a tragic car crash midway through filming, he was recast and the film was pushed back to accommodate the time needed to induct Friend into the fold. We fell in love with Friend on the hit Showtime Homeland, on which he plays Peter Quinn, but we had our hearts set on seeing Walker tackle this part.

In with the new Zach, out with the old. Conversations about NBC’s upcoming limited series Heroes: Reborn have revolved around what characters may or may not return to join the new ones, and Zachary Quinto’s power-grubbing Sylar was one of the characters that fans want to return. But there’s one Heroes fan that has the power to make that not happen. And it’s Zachary Quinto himself.

Unfortunately, Quinto has made it official that he won’t be a part of Heroes: Reborn when it comes around, regardless of whether or not some characters say, “Hey, whatever happened to that wacky Sylar guy that skulled people so often?” Quinto revealed the news to Buzzfeed’s Kate Aurthur, who shared the news via Twitter.

It’s quite disappointing, as Sylar was generally one of the more enjoyable characters in Heroes, even though his arc got less exciting as it went along. But if we’re going to give this a silver lining, at least it gives the quasi-reboot a chance to develop a villain as equally memorable. One that might carry the show from limited series to something more permanent. As well, it lets Quinto "cultivate other outlets," which I can only hope means attract memorable roles in other quality projects.

We do know that Chuck star Zachary Levi will be at the head of Heroes: Reborn, with Jack Coleman’s Horn-Rimmed Glasses returning for more world-saving. (Though no official word on Hayden Panettiere as his daughter and former cheerleader Claire.) As far as the plot goes, we know it’s about new characters coming upon new powers, though it takes place within the same universe as the initial series. I’m not sure I would enjoy things as much if Sylar showed up as a good guy, as the series finale made it seem like he would continue to be.

A television stalwart pre-Heroes, Quinto soon became a major part of the American Horror Story universe, which fans also want to see the actor return to, given Ryan Murphy’s repeat use of actors. He’s spun out a feature career with the Star Trek films, along with some indies, but he’ll soon return to TV for NBC’s miniseries The Slap, part of the network’s No Comedy Thursdays.

Heroes: Reborn is set to go through more casting soon, with production scheduled for later this year.

With actor Zachary Quinto recently revealing that Star Trek 3 could begin filming in the next six months, and screenwriter (and presumed director…) Roberto Orci reporting that the first draft of the script is done, it’s time to do what the Internet does best. Wait, don’t start surfing for porn. It’s time to do what the Internet does second best – speculate on things we have no way of possibly knowing!

Orci and co-screenwriters Patrick McKay and John D. Payne seem unlikely to spill the beans about what the story of the rebooted franchise’s third entry will be (all we know so far is that Orci says this film will bring the characters ever closer to their original television counterparts and will take place in deep space with a focus on exploration), but that hasn’t stopped me from looking back through all 79 episodes of the original Star Trek to find stories that would be a fantastic inspiration for a new film. Naturally, not all of those old installments lend themselves to being part of a feature film (sorry, episodes where alien societies are built on ancient Greek/Roman/American cultures!), but I’ve found a solid five that have either plots or thematic ideas that could work really well in a third film. With that in mind, let’s get to it.

Arena

Let’s just get this one out of the way right up front. I have little reason to believe that we’ll ever see a big screen version of season one episode "Arena," primarily because it’s a Kirk story and the Star Trek films are ensemble affairs. I love the Gorn, though – and dream of the day they’re featured in one of these movies.

"Arena" is arguably one of the most instantly recognizable of all Star Trek episodes, thanks in no small part to the silly lizard costume an actor is forced to wear as a captain of a Gorn ship. When said captain orders the destruction of a Federation colony, Kirk sets out for revenge. He’s about to get it when an alien race known as the Metrons intervene and demand Kirk face the Gorn captain in close quarters combat. An epic battle ensues, with Kirk eventually using his ingenuity to get the upper hand and emerge victorious, but not before he learns the Gorn captain had legitimate reasons for acting the way he did.

What Star Trek 3 could use: Obviously, the Gorn. These fan favorites have only appeared twice in all the years of Star Trek – here, and on an episode of Enterprise. Many Trekkies would freak out if they turned up in the new film. It’s time for a Gorn renaissance. Also, the idea that The Federation isn’t always right has potential.

The Enterprise Incident

This third-season episode is not as big and bombastic as one you’d expect to find in the new wave of Star Trek films, but with a little tweaking and finessing, it could make for a really compelling starting point for a much bigger story.

The Federation decides it really wants a Romulan cloaking device of its very own, and the best way to get one is to send Kirk (sporting some hilariously bushy eyebrows and Romulan ears…) and Spock aboard a Romulan warship undercover. Spock seduces the female Romulan Commander, while Kirk absconds with the device in this heist tale -- although Spock later acknowledges that any advantage gained by acquiring the device will be short-lived because the Romulans will just build a better one.

What Star Trek 3 could use: The Romulans have already been a villain in the franchise, but there’s always room for more stories about them. The heist set-up shows Kirk and Spock at their best, and could make an interesting set-piece in a larger story. Cloaking devices could be used in a lot of different ways.

Charlie X

The second episode of the first season seems sort of perfunctory and familiar at first glance, featuring an immature boy with psychic powers who uses them in all the wrong ways. However "Charlie X" isn’t just a riff on a classic Twilight Zone episode ("It’s a Good Life"). It’s a solid tale with elements that could easily be worked into a modern Star Trek film.

Kirk and the Enterprise crew pick up teenager Charlie from a ship called The Antares. Charlie was the lone survivor of a spaceship crash landing, and he spent 14 years alone on a planet called Thasus, where he learned to talk from a computer and developed psychic abilities. When he finds himself aboard The Enterprise, Charlie takes a liking to Yeoman Rand, and a disliking to anyone who laughs at his social awkwardness – which leads to numerous complications (including the destruction of The Antares) before the Thasians intervene and take him back to their world, despite Kirk and Charlie’s protests.

What Star Trek 3 could use: The petulant teenager with psychic abilities wouldn’t work in a feature film like Star Trek, but an older Charlie X (or a Gary Mitchell from "Where No Man Has Gone Before"), with more ambitious objectives than simply wooing Yeoman Rand, definitely has potential. Maybe instead of the traditional Klingons and Romulans, we could have someone with crazy powers be the big bad.

The City on the Edge of Forever

Widely regarded as one of the greatest Star Trek episodes of all-time, Harlan Ellison’s "The City on the Edge of Forever" would have to be drastically tweaked to work as a Star Trek movie, but the core idea – of Kirk loving a woman and being forced to choose between his personal needs and the needs of the masses – is pure Trek.

When McCoy accidentally overdoses himself with Cordrazine, he flees The Enterprise, winds up on a planet where The Guardian of Forever shoots him into the past, alters history, and Kirk and Spock must follow and make things right. They wind up in the 1930s on Earth, where they meet social worker Edith Keeler (Joan Collins). Kirk falls in love with Edith, but Spock eventually figures out that she was supposed to die (McCoy prevented this in his drugged out state…) and that by not dying, the Nazis will win World War II and history will be changed forever. Kirk has to let the woman he loves die for the greater good.

What Star Trek 3 could use: We already know that Orci and company like the whole time travel thing (hence Spock prime turning up in the 2009 film), and this is one of Trek’s best time travel tales. The main storyline would have to be tweaked considerably, but the core idea of being forced to choose between your own happiness and the best thing for humanity is one of the founding principles of the show’s universe.

The Doomsday Machine

Of all the Star Trek episodes that could provide a framework for Orci and company’s newest movie, season two’s "The Doomsday Machine" is the one with the most potential. Kirk and company square off against a giant, planet-destroying machine from another galaxy in what is one of the series’ high water marks.

The Enterprise is out investigating a swath of destroyed solar systems when it picks up a distress signal from the USS Constellation. Kirk and crew arrive aboard the ship to find a distraught Commodore Matt Decker babbling about being attacked. The attacker turns out to be a giant precursor to Star Wars’ Death Star, and Kirk and Spock must find a way to destroy it before it wreaks even more devastation. They come up with a dangerous plan (does Kirk ever have anything in mind besides a dangerous plan? I mean, aside from green alien women?), and the story ends with a nice little sci-fi coda that ties into modern concerns.

What Star Trek 3 could use: The Doomsday Machine. It’s the perfect sort of huge, galaxy-altering force that you could build a summer blockbuster around. Frankly, I’m shocked no one’s used it already. It doesn’t have to be utilized in the same way as it is in the show – it could be something completely different used in different circumstances – but an alien intelligence that destroys all life in its path has the high concept, high stakes angle modern Trek should be striving for.

Get ready to beam up to The Enterprise, because Star Trek 3 could be coming sooner than you think if Zachary Quinto’s assumptions pan out.

With director J.J. Abrams having traded in his phaser for a Lightsaber, few expected a new entry in the series to be in front of cameras quite so soon. If shooting is indeed six months off, this would lead even more credence to the rumor that screenwriter Roberto Orci will be the man tasked with overseeing the crew’s latest adventure. Orci served as a co-screenwriter on all three Star Trek entries to date (including this in-development chapter), and has previous credits on blockbuster titles like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Transformers.

Orci reported that the first draft of the new script is completed. While he wasn’t ready to divulge all the plot details Trekkies are dying to know, he did mention that the new script will bring the film’s characters ever closer to their original TV inspirations.

With news of a first draft being done, and a potential shooting date right around the corner, expect fan speculation on what the crew’s third adventure to kick into high gear any day now. It’s too soon to make any sort of meaningful guess as where we’ll boldly go in a third Star Trek film, but I’m still secretly holding out hope that we’ll see some sort of riff on the Season two episode The Doomsday Machine. That episode, wherein The Enterprise encounters a gigantic, planet devouring machine from another galaxy and must divert it away from a densely populated area of space, is a classic. Plus, it gives Orci and company the opportunity to give a subtle poke to Star Wars, since The Doomsday Machine of the title is reminiscent of The Death Star, but predates it by a decade.

On top of that, it’s the kind of story that could really be blown up for the big screen treatment – and could open up expanded possibilities down the road. Of course, there’s not even a hint that Star Trek 3 will use this episode as a basis for the new film, but if I were mining the archives for story ideas, this one would be at the top of my list.
