Lionhead Studios announced a remake for their Xbox RPG Fable today. Fable Anniversary will be coming to the Xbox 360 this holiday season.
In Fable, an orphan is recruited by the Heroes' Guild. As he develops into an adult adventurer, he'll be confronted with a series of tough moral decisions. These decisions will affect his abilities and appearance, as well as the world around him.
Fable Anniversary updates the visuals so they support 1080p HD resolution. The interface and save system have been reworked as well. Shorter loading times, Achievements, and Xbox Smartglass support are some of the other features promised by Lionhead. Leaderboards will allow players to see who the top chicken kicker in the world is.
I'm a bit surprised at this announcement. It's not because I thought Lionhead would never remake Fable. I just assumed that they would make an Xbox One sequel instead. That would be a bit more timely than a remake of a previous-gen game for a soon-to-be-previous-gen console, especially considering the fact that Fable is already available through Xbox Live.
It's possible that Lionhead is making Anniversary and a new Fable, though. Perhaps Anniversary's fall release date indicates that this next-gen Fable won't be out this year? I suppose we'll find out at Microsoft's E3 briefing next week. Microsoft is promising multiple game announcements during that event.
