GTA 5 Mobile App Is Called iFruit For Some Reason

On the eve of Grand Theft Auto V's worldwide launch, Rockstar Games has unveiled a companion app for the game on iOS. The app, Grand Theft Auto iFruit, allows you to play side activities that will affect your GTA 5 experience.

"How would we survive without apps? Apps can transform your mobile device into essential tools like a harmonica, disco ball or convincing moustache," reads Rockstar's description of iFruit. "Somewhere out there is the perfect storm of touchscreen technology to fix everything that’s wrong with your life. And maybe all you’re missing is the iFruit app. Maybe not. At least you’ll have something to keep you entertained while your significant other prattles on endlessly about their day."

The first component of the app is named Los Santos Customs. It allows players to design their own custom vehicles. You can pick your paint job, window tint, wheels, spoilers and other cosmetic options. You can also choose upgrades such as body armor and a more powerful engine. Once you've finalized the vehicle's design, you can place your order and get an in-game phone call when it's ready. If you're not currently playing when you order the vehicle, you'll find it waiting for you in your character's garage.

Players can also create their own custom license plates for use in GTA V and Grand Theft Auto Online. GTA Online, the multiplayer side of the game, will go live on October 1st. The App Store listing for iFruit mentions that players can "reserve" their license plates, which suggests that two players won't be able to have the same license in GTA Online - unless you steal someone else's car, anyway.

The other big attraction in iFruit is a pet simulator starring Chop. Chop is the Rottweiler owned by Franklin, one of the campaign's three protagonists. In the pet simulator, players can nurture or play with the dog. Caring for him through the app will make him sniff out hidden items in GTA V and also be more responsive to commands. It sounds like you'll need to be consistent in your affection for Chop, though. If you neglect him for too long, he'll become ornery.

iFruit also has more general functions. You can find out the latest news about GTA V, access the Rockstar Store or log into the Rockstar Games Social Club. You can also use LifeInvader, a parody version of a social network.
