Halo 2 Anniversary Multiplayer Modes And Map Revealed At RTX 2014

343 Industries shared some new details on Halo: The Master Chief Collection during RTX 2014 on Saturday. During their presentation they shed some light on the multiplayer improvements included with the bundle's Halo 2 remake.

Halo 2 Anniversary will bring back many fan-favorite modes including CTF, Assault, Territories and Juggernaut. Juggernaut, if you don't recall, pitted one superpowered player against everyone else. The Juggernaut must kill as many players as possible while the others try to take him or her down.

The brand-new modes in Halo 2 Anniversary include the following types from other Halo games:

  • Ricochet - Two teams try to score points by carrying or throwing a ball into their opponent's goal. Running it in gives more than twice as many points.
  • Race - Teams or individual players try to pass through all checkpoints before their opponents can. Checkpoints can be reached on foot or with vehicles.
  • SWAT - Players fight it out with no shields or motion tracker. Players can be killed with a single headshot. Battle Rifles and DMR's can even take out multiple enemies with one burst.
  • Infection - A select group of players start out as zombies and try to kill the other players. Each player they kill is "infected" and joins the zombie team. The uninfected must try to survive as long as possible.

This isn't an exhaustive list, though. 343 Industries says that we can expect several more to be announced soon.

The full list of maps for Halo 2 Anniversary hasn't been announced yet. However, 343 did confirm that Coagulation will be one of the multiplayer arenas included with the remake. This map features two identical bases on either side of a massive canyon. It's an ideal map for snipers because of its numerous perches and wide open spaces. If this sounds familiar, it's because Coagulation is a remake of classic map "Blood Gulch."

Halo 2 Anniversary's multiplayer won't just be featuring content from other Halo games, though. The developers are planning a few new twists too. For example, they're introducing a vehicle called the M274-M Ultra-Light All-Terrain Vehicle. The M274-M, nicknamed the "Gungoose," is a Mongoose with an anti-infantry gun on the front. The combination of speed and firepower should make it a very popular vehicle.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will debut on Xbox One on November 11th. In addition to Halo 2 Anniversary, the Master Chief Collection will feature HD remakes of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 3 and Halo 4. Xbox One gamers who purchase the bundle will get access to the Halo 5 multiplayer beta, too.
