Hearthstone Curse Of Naxxramas Launches New Single-Player Adventure Mode

Blizzard revealed the first single-player adventure for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft at PAX East. Curse of Naxxramas will take players to a location very familiar to World of Warcraft players.

"The ancient necropolis Naxxramas, a base of operations for the powerful lich Kel’Thuzad and his plague-bearing undead host, comes to Hearthstone in a single player PvE Adventure that anyone can undertake!" Blizzard said on the Hearthstone blog. "Progress through one of the five unique wings of the dungeon and gain new cards for your Hearthstone collection."

Bosses from the WoW Naxxramas raid like Loatheb and Patchwerk will make a return. Each of these enemies has unique cards and Hero Powers. For example, Heigan the Unclean has an Eruption card that hurts your left-most minion. His Mindpocalypse gives 2 cards and a Mana crystal to him and his opponent.

Beating these bosses will unlock a new card for your collection. Completing a wing also guarantees you a new Legendary. Additionally, Curse of Naxxramas provides a new challenge for each class with a new class-specific card as a reward. All told, players can earn 30 new cards through Curse. They'll show up in your Arena collection regardless of whether you've permanently unlocked them yet.

Curse of Naxxramas will be released wing by wing over the course of five weeks. Players can dive into the first wing, the Arachnid Quarter, and battle the giant spider Maexxna for free. The other four wings must be purchased with either in-game gold or real money. Maybe it's time to revise that estimate about Hearthstone's revenue. I suspect that single-player content will be very popular for all types of players. The hardcore crowd will want the new cards to stay competitive while more casual players will jump at the chance to play the game against new bots.

The prices and release dates weren't announced. However, community manager Zeriyah said that we can expect the adventure within the next few months:

Blizzard will release Curse of Naxxramas on PC, Mac, and iPad simultaneously. The iPad version is currently only available in three countries but there's a way around that restriction.
