It seems like the world can’t get enough of the limbless wonder known as Rayman, as the platforming juggernaut is set to return to mobile devices later this fall in another sprint-tastic adventure, Rayman Fiesta Run.
Announced this morning at Ubisoft’s Digital Days event and set to release hot on the heels of its latest console platforming brother, Rayman Legends, Fiesta Run is the follow-up to one of last year’s most successful and critically acclaimed mobile game, Rayman Jungle Run.
As you might have guessed from the title, Fiesta Run has a distinct south of the border flavor full of margaritas, festive skeletons and, yes, even a fair number of piñatas. Unlike the console Rayman games, these mobile offerings are exclusive to smartphones and tablets, giving players full control of the game’s colorful cast with some basic touchscreen interactions.
One of my favorite parts of recent Rayman games are the fast-paced running levels that have our hero moving at a steady clip while the player tries to dodge obstacles, swing from vines, land on enemies’ heads, etc. These mobile games distill that formula and cram it into a package that can be taken on the go, making it a fast, fun and addictive alternative to, say, Candy Crush.
At the Digital Days event, Ubisoft announced that Fiesta Run will “introduce players to a new wacky Fiesta world” that will have players “lung for cocktail umbrellas, leap on limes and punch piñatas in this playful, colorful musical adventure.”
Due out sometime this fall, Fiesta Run will introduce new powers and bonuses throughout 75 levels set in four new worlds. There will be brand new boss fights to wade through, too, as well as new “Invasion” levels to tackle. Finally, you’ll be able to share all of your most epic achievements through some brand new social features.
Honestly, so long as this game basically apes its predecessor and throws in a few new bells and whistles, I’m set to be one happy camper. Jungle Run was a delight and all early signs point to Fiesta Run being just as much fun. For more details, stay tuned to Rayman’s official Facebook page.
