Superhot: The First FPS Where Nothing Moves Unless The Player Moves

Here's a concept to wrap your head around: Imagine a fast paced first-person shooter where everything is static (and no, I'm not talking about Call of Duty) and the only time anything moves is when the player moves. Now throw in some intense combat. Throw in some intense gunplay. Throw in a destructible environment and physics based gameplay. Sounds super-hot right? Well that's because it is Superhot.

The game is already garnering all sorts of massive praise for being such an out-there concept. I don't know if I can do it justice with a simple description, but on the official page the game is laid out as thus...

SUPERHOT is an FPS game where time moves only when you move. The innovative time control mechanics create gameplay never seen before. TAKE YOUR TIME! Get rid of aggressive enemies with grace, style and the intense satisfaction. Watch them fall while you're dancing in a hail of bullets. With limited ammunition and unforgiving foes every level of SUPERHOT becomes a deadly puzzle.

It's been described as Braid meets Receiver meets The Matrix meets Mirror's Edge.

There is an obvious hint of sharp visual style that gives the game a look all its own. The grays and reds really pop amidst the whole slow motion effects. The part that really sparked my interest was when the enemy AI all started shooting at the player and you're in this kind of awesome position where the bullets can only hurt you if you move into them. At the same time, you're also in a very dangerous position where you have to advance on the enemy and that could spell an almost certain and guaranteed death. The game seems to be riddled with moments like this.

You can play the game over on the SuperhotGame.com website. However, if you really want to see this game come to Steam where it can bask in the audience that it deserves, you'll probably want to give Superhot a little hand over on Steam Greenlight where you can upvote and favorite the game in an attempt to get Valve to recognize its potential and add it to the Steam store.

If you're still not convinced, just check out a few of the screenshots of the game below, featuring some of the constant bullet-time that the game employs since everything stands still until you move. I can easily imagine this becoming a mod on Garry's Mod at some point. Just another reason to be all-in on PC gaming, eh?
