Temple Run 2 Racks Up 20 Million Downloads, Android Version Incoming

The sequel of endless runner Temple Run has been given a warm greeting by iOS gamers. In its first four days on the App Store, Temple Run 2 has been downloaded over 20 million times.

What's that? You want more flashy statistics? Well, here you go: the iOS community has played over 210 million sessions of Temple Run 2 thus far. If you added all that gameplay time up, it's over 1,775 years.

The original Temple Run was a smashing success as well. It's been downloaded 170 million times to date. It racked up 2.5 million of that total on Christmas Day alone.

In TR2, players take on the role of an adventurer who has acquired a lost idol. They're now being chased by the temple's guardians and must flee for as long as they can. Players will have to have to use mine carts, ziplines and the feet God gave them to avoid pursuers.

Screenshots of the game are below. As you can see, the graphics are a noticeable step-up from the first Temple Run. New Achievements, power-ups and characters are among the other improvements.

Temple Run 2 is free to download and play. However, players can spend real-world money on in-game currency, which in turn can be spent unlocking extras. It seems many players have opted for these microtransactions, as the game is currently the third top-grossing app available.

Imangi Studios says that Android owners will soon be able to get their hands on the game as well. The Android launch is expected later this week.
