World of Warcraft now has another premium mount for players to buy. The Warforged Nightmare can be purchased through the Battle.net Shop or in-game cash store by aspiring villains and antiheroes.
"Charge into battle astride a Warforged Nightmare, unleashing unbridled chaos upon your enemies!" Blizzard says. "Those who own this terrifying steed, crafted from cold steel and vengeful spirits by grandmaster smiths, are also able to place a Nightmarish Hitching Post. This mysterious artifact has the power to summon a Warforged Nightmare for every member of your war party strong enough to handle the reins and worthy enough to be given the honor."
The Warforged Nightmare summoned by friends will last for 20 minutes. It's basically a test drive.
Blizzard's pretty pleased with their creation. They've decided that it's worth a $30 purchase. That's $5 more than the price for previously released mounts like the Heart of the Aspects or Celestial Steed.
This mount works just like the other premium steeds offer by Blizzard. It automatically scales to your character's riding skill. For example, if you don't have access to flying mounts yet, the Warforged Nightmare will work as a ground mount.
The purchase applies to all present and future World of Warcraft characters on your account. You'll find the mount waiting for you in your character's mailbox. The purchase should be available immediately.
Warforged Nightmare was one of two new mounts discovered through datamining upcoming patches. The other new mount is the Grinning Reaver, essentially an Qiraji Battle Tank with a demonic skull. The Reaver hasn't been released to the store yet but don't be surprised if it debuts later this summer.
What's really strange about Blizzard releasing new flying mounts is that the next expansion pack Warlords of Draenor won't allow players to fly. Sure, these mounts work on the ground too but their fancy flying animations and effects are wasted then. Blizzard said that they're going to see how removing flight "plays out," though, so there's a chance they'll cave and bring flying back to the game.
Warlords of Draenor's alpha went live a week ago. The small-scale test will be followed by a wider beta. Draenor's official launch is expected by the end of the year.
