Lights Out Preview: FX's New Boxing Drama

Is FX’s upcoming new drama series Lights Out a comeback story? Well, from the video we have to share with you, it seems that’s up to the main character, retired boxer Patrick “Lights” Leary.

I’m not a huge fan of boxing, personally, so my interest in this series was somewhat limited when it came to the premise. Having watched the trailer and the video FX put together to introduce us to the title character and his story, to say I’m intrigued would be an understatement. This show looks pretty fantastic. Possibly even Rocky fantastic (except possibly minus the training montages).

Here’s the teaser and the description FX released on the series:

“Lights Out, from Executive Producer/Showrunner Warren Leight (In Treatment, Law & Order Criminal Intent), stars Holt McCallany (CSI: Miami) as “Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary,” an aging former heavyweight boxing champion who struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The financial downturn coupled with a series of failed investments leave him at a perilous crossroads – battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. Catherine McCormack (Braveheart) co-stars as “Theresa Leary,” Lights’ wife who is finishing her medical residency; Pablo Schreiber (The Wire) as “Johnny Leary,” Lights’ brother and business manager; and Stacy Keach (Fat City) as “Robert ‘Pops’ Leary,” Lights’ father and former trainer who runs the boxing gym owned by Lights.

The video below is a great introduction to the characters and to the story we’re about to see play out.

Lights Out premieres on Tuesday, January 11 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX.
