The Making Of The Sound Of Music Live Will Air Wednesday Night On NBC

A week from Thursday, NBC will be airing The Sound of Music Live!, but you won’t have to wait a week to get your Do-Re-Mi fix. This Wednesday night, NBC will be giving fans of The Sound of Music a look at the making of the planned live production they’re set to broadcast next week. The Making of The Sound of Music Live! will air Wednesday, November 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.

The Sound of Music Live! is based on the 1959 Broadway production of The Sound of Music, which starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. The musical was later adapted for the screen in 1965 by Robert Wise in a film that starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. In NBC’s upcoming live production of the musical, Carrie Underwood will star as Maria, the young nun-in-training who falls for Captain von Trapp (Stephen Moyer), the father and widower who hires her to look after his children. Audra McDonald will play Mother Abbess.

Timed for Thanksgiving-Eve, The Making of the Sound of Music Live! will give viewers a chance to see what’s going into the live production of the beloved musical, which features songs from the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein. The special chronicles the three-month countdown to the live broadcast, including the casting call done to discover the kids who will play the seven von Trapp children, Ariane Rinehart (Liesl), Michael Nigro (Fredrich), Ella Watts-Gorman (Louisa), Joe West (Kurt), Sophia Caruso (Brigitta), Grace Rundhaug (Marta) and Peyton Ella as Gretl.

This making-of special seems like one big promotion for the event, but lets face it, anyone who’s excited about the broadcast is probably eager to see whatever samples NBC’s special has to offer in advance. And if all goes well, they’ll tune in next Thursday to catch the big show, which runs for three hours (so clear your schedule). We’ve already seen a few promotions for the broadcast, which show off some of the rehearsals and give us a look at the set for the show.
