Watch Audra McDonald's Outstanding Performance Of The Sound Of Music's Climb Every Mountain

Those who tuned into NBC’s broadcast of Christmas in Rockefeller Center last night got a sample of the outstanding talent of one of the stars of tonight’s The Sound of Music Live! event that’s set to air on NBC. In the above video, Audra McDonald, who plays the wise Mother Abbess in the production, belts out a pretty amazing version of “Climb Every Mountain,” reminding us that she’s not only an actor, but a classically trained musician. If the rest of the songs in the production sound as amazing as the performance above, we really are in for a treat tonight. In addition to McDonald, The Sound of Music Live also stars singer Carrie Underwood and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer, playing Maria and Captain von Trapp respectively.

If you’re wondering if Moyer can sing, rest assured, he really can. Just watch him in this preview clip below:

Since it’s a live event, previews for the broadcast have been largely behind-the-scenes glimpses like the one above. NBC also aired an hour-long “making of” special last week, which you can watch here. The above performance is another fantastic sample of what’s to come, and NBC also shared the sneak peek photos that give us a look at some familiar — and in some cases, very spoilery! — scenes. Before we get to that, here’s the “Do-Re-Mi” music video that NBC released, which has Carrie Underwood and fans singing the familiar song.

And here are those rehearsal photos we promised. Or you can save yourself the spoilers and tune in tonight to see the costumes and settings when the The Sound of Music Live’s 3-hour broadcast airs, beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET.
