What's Wrong With This Downton Abbey Picture?

Can you tell what's wrong with the above picture for Downton Abbey's fifth season? Take a good look. There's something in the image that most definitely doesn't belong in this time period. No,Hugh Bonneville's Robert Crawley isn't wearing a modern wrist-watch, and Lady Edith's hair style is probably appropriate for the 1920's setting. The thing that stands out as an obvious error is actually something that would be an error even if we were looking at a modern-day photo. Because who leaves a water bottle on the mantle of a fireplace in a fancy house?

Look to the right of Lady Edith's shoulder and sure enough, there's a plastic bottle on the marble mantle. It's most certainly not meant to part of the decor, and since disposable plastic bottles likely weren't in fashion during this story's setting, it's obviously not supposed to be there. Via BuzzFeed, the image, which looks like a meme meant to circulate via Facebook and Twitter to promote the upcoming fifth season of Downton Abbey, has made the rounds as many have noticed the water bottle, which is out of place and its time in this fireplace portrait. Whoops!

PBS has a number of photos for Season 5 of Downton Abbey, which you can view in the gallery below. The plastic bottle photo isn't among them, so it's presumably been removed.

Season 5 of Downton Abbey is set to debut on PBS Masterpiece on Sunday, January 4. The season will pick up in the U.K. in 1924. The United Kingdom has its first Labor Party prime minister.
