Worldwide publisher Ubisoft just snatched up one of the hottest Xbox Live Arcade developers around. Today Ubisoft announced their acquisition of RedLynx, the studio best known for their work on the Trials series.
"We are delighted to welcome RedLynx to the Ubisoft family," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "Their expertise in asynchronous online games and physics-based game mechanics provides us with a great opportunity to bring their powerful brands, most notably Trials, to an even broader range of fast-growing digital platforms."
Trials HD, a puzzle/racing game, was released through XBLA in August 2009. Sales of the game have since exceeded two million downloads. Players must navigate a motorcycle through an obstacle course. You can compete with friends online via leaderboards, or create your own courses with a level editor and share them.
At this year's E3, RedLynx announced that they're developing a sequel entitled Trials Evolution. It was supposed to arrive by the end of 2011 but no release date has been announced so a 2012 launch seems more likely.
