Terraria Expands To Consoles Next Month

We’ve known for quite some time now that 505 Games’ do-it-yourself action RPG title, Terraria, would be coming to consoles, but now we have a better idea of what type of new content and features will be packed in, as well as a tentative release window for the game. If you’ve been eagerly anticipating playing Terraria on your PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, it looks like you’ll finally be able to dive in starting sometime next month.

Joystiq uncovered a juicy little tidbit in the description section for the latest Terraria trailer, stating that the game will be releasing “next month.” Now, if my math is correct, and if we’re currently residing in the month of January, then that means that we should be playing Terraria on consoles sometime in February.

And here’s a look at that sweet, sweet new trailer.

When Terraria first landed on PC a couple of years ago, it was initially unjustly pegged as “Minecraft” in 2D. While there are certainly a number of similarities, such as block-based building and deconstructing, oodles of crafting and monsters to fight, Terraria cranked the RPG and adventure portion of the formula all the way up to 11. You can build whatever your heart desires, sure, but the real meat of the game is in exploring the massive world, gathering loads of loot, suiting up your avatar with all of the best gear and murdering an untold number of baddies.

According to this latest trailer, the HD version of Terraria for consoles will include four-player splitscreen co-op while everyone can enjoy eight-player online shenanigans. The console version will also include a treasure trove of new content, including armor, enemies, weapons and even a brand new final boss.

I had a pretty bad addiction to Terraria on PC so, in all honesty, I’m hesitant to fall off the wagon with this console port. Everyone else should seriously consider giving it a shot, however. Apparently you will be able to do exactly that starting next month!
