Serious Sam Double D XXL Has Been Unleashed On XBLA

You know what’s better than killing aliens with a gun? Killing aliens with a stack of guns held together with nothing more than duct tape and awesomeness. All of that, and more, is now available on Xbox Live Arcade in the form of Serious Sam Double D XXL.

For those unfamiliar with the Double D version of Serious Sam, the traditionally 3D first-person shooter has been turned into a 2D platforming blast-a-thon complete with retro graphics and a sense of humor that plants tongue firmly in cheek.

Developed by Mommy’s Best Games and co-publishers Devolver Digital and Mastertronic, this latest iteration of Serious Sam Double D XXL comes packed with all new weapons, all new enemies, all new missions and, most importantly for this type of game, the ability to get in some good old fashioned couch co-op.

Easily the coolest feature, though, is the Gunstacker, a gizmo that lets players combine multiple weapons and fire them all at the same time. Take the gun combo system from Dead Space 3 and bolt on a few extra firearms, and you’ve got the basic idea.

“The team is super excited to see what sort of crazy combinations of weapons Serious Sam fans put together with the Gunstacker,” said Mommy’s Best Games founder Nathan Fouts. “We’ve put a ton of work into new content and have really cranked up the insanity in Serious Sam Double D XXL.”

Serious Sam Double D XXL is available now on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 MSP.
