The Warriors Come Out To Play On PSN Next Week

Waaaarrioooors, come out and plaaaa-eeee-aaaaay. Rockstar’s sudden influx of PlayStation 2 Classics available on the PlayStation Network continues to grow as the developer announces The Warriors will be arriving next Tuesday, May 28.

Whether or not you’re a fan of the movie, it’s hard to speak ill of a game like The Warriors. It’s not often that a quality game based on a quality movie hits consoles, much less a game based on a movie that’s several decades old. But Rockstar did the dang-near impossible with the PlayStation 2 game, The Warriors, crafting an experience that stays true to the spirit of the film while simultaneously proving to be one of the best games of last generation.

I admit that I’m dishing out some high praise here, but it’s all warranted. Taking all of the good elements of last-gen Grand Theft Auto games and injecting them into the over-the-top crime and gang-filled world of The Warriors, Rockstar delivered an open-world action title with a wonderful cast of characters, a great story, and plenty of hand-to-hand fighting.

Rockstar has been on a roll lately when it comes to the PlayStation Network, releasing the majority of its PS2 library as downloadable titles, including all of the GTA games I was just talking about, Max Payne, the Midnight Club games, Bully and, most recently, Manhunt.

According to a statement from Rockstar HQ, The Warriors will be the latest addition to the digital family, available as a PlayStation 2 Classic on PSN next Tuesday for $9.99. Dig it.
