Chalk up another big success for Kickstarter as FarSight Studios’ latest attempt to raise funds for virtual pinball licensing pulls through with just five days left on its countdown. Thanks to oodles of virtual pinheads and their giving nature, the legendary Terminator 2: Judgment Day table will eventually be joining the lineup on The Pinball Arcade.
This isn’t FarSight’s first trip to Kickstarter, which has proven to be an amazing resource for the publisher of virtual pinball tables. The studio was able to raise enough funds to bring the Twilight Zone table to their game last year and, just a couple of months later, wrapped up a campaign to add Star Trek: The Next Generation, too. Both tables have already been added to The Pinball Arcade, so you know the company has a good track record when it comes to delivering on their intentions.
“Here at FarSight Studios, we have over 20 years of experience developing video games on consoles, phones and tablets. We are also pinball fanatics,” reads the project intro. “For the last seven years, we’ve been developing modern video game recreations of classic pinball tables.”
The Pinball Arcade first launched back in 2012, offering a small collection at first featuring tables like Theatre of Magic and Arabian Nights. The library has grown ever since, usually with two-table packs on a regular basis offering everything from Funhouse and No Good Gofers to the more recent Firepower and White Water.
While most of the pinball tables out there feature these types of generic settings and themes, some come from licensed IPs that bring additional fees along for the ride. Without upfront funding through KickStarter, FarSight holds that it would be unable to afford these additional costs.
Thankfully, the fans keep pulling through, making it possible for the developer to create virtual simulations for some of the best licensed tables in the world.
Now, thanks to 1,632 backers (as of this writing), the Terminator 2: Judgment Day table is the latest offering to join that list. With just five days to go in its Kickstarter campaign, the table has now raised $50,942 out of its target $59,000.

Even if you aren’t that interested in virtual pinball or this particular table, it gives some really good information on game development, licensing and the process by which the team turns a physical table into a virtual game.
Here’s hoping the team is able to turn this one around with a quickness. It’d be great to finally play the virtual T2 table sometime this winter. As a final note, one of the comments from FarSight on Youtube states that, if T2 gets funded, the next table they would like to try for is the fan-favorite table for The Addams Family. So maybe we’ll be seeing another Kickstarter campaign for The Pinball Arcade soon?
