South Park: The Stick Of Truth Release Date, Grand Wizard Edition Announced

South Park: The Stick of Truth will suffer no additional delays, publisher Ubisoft announced today. They've slated the role-playing game for a December 10th release in North America and a December 12th launch in Europe.

In Stick of Truth, players take on the role of the new kid in South Park. He'll join up with Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny in their quest to reclaim the fabled stick. Along the way, they'll fight various enemies from South Park lore including underpants gnomes and hippies. South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone wrote the script and are also voicing the cast.

The game was first announced in late 2011 for a 2012 release. Signs of trouble came in early 2012 when developer Obsidian Entertainment laid off about 20 employees, some of whom were working on the project. Last November, publisher THQ announced that they were pushing the game to April 2013. The company then filed for bankruptcy about a month later.

Fortunately, the game didn't slip through the cracks. Ubisoft purchased the rights to the game in January. Obviously Ubisoft missed the April 2013 release window that THQ had passed down but they are fulfilling their own promise of a 2013 launch.

When Stick of Truth hits stores, gamers will have the option of buying either the $59.99 Standard Edition or the $79.99 Grand Wizard Edition. The latter comes with a copy of the game, a six-inch Grand Wizard Cartman figurine produced by Kidrobot, and a detailed map of the "Kingdom of South Park." The figurine won't be sold through stores so this Collector's Edition is the only way for you to buy it.

If you buy the Grand Wizard Edition or pre-order the Standard Edition, Ubisoft will give you a download code for the Ultimate Fellowship Pack. This pack is loaded with four costumes that grant stat bonuses. The Holy Defender costume boosts your defense, the Ranger Elf raises your weapon damage, the Rogue Assassin increases your gold gains, and the Necromancer Sorcerer buffs your fire damage.

Today's news was accompanied by a new "Destiny" trailer as well as a few screenshots. You can check them all out below.
