Assassin's Creed Unity Trailer Reveals Co-op Heist

A new video trailer for Assassin's Creed Unity has gone live, this time discussing and showcasing some of the gameplay from the rarely-talked-about cooperative mode. We get to see a “heist” mission take place, with two players having to utilize their skills to overcome some difficult odds in order to secure some loot.

Creative director Alex Amancio walks viewers through the four-and-a-half minute video that starts off outside, at night, in a graveyard. Two players are tasked with infiltrating a mausoleum and retrieving some loot buried deep within.

The task of the heist mission is to get in and get out without alerting the guards. It's designed for players who value the stealth aspects of gameplay over going gung-ho into a situation and carving everyone up like a turkey on Thanksgiving day.

Unfortunately the video doesn't exactly showcase what happens if you do break stealth protocol and start going crazy on people. Are the heist missions harder than standard missions? Do the guards take more life or kill you with ease? Are they more prone to being alerted? It's not really explained or explored. Also, all the guard takedowns are done via stealth so we don't really get a gauge on whether or not non-silent kills are more difficult to pull off.

The balance of having to time your attacks with a second player while also navigating through the environment is a pretty neat feature and should make for some awesome cooperative experiences. In fact, the footage that was showcased in the video above actually reminds me a heck of a lot like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. The co-op in that game was centered around tactics, stealth, timing and coordination. I think we're kind of seeing a return to form of challenging co-op with Assassin's Creed Unity.

Additionally, the game also sports four-player cooperative modes, but I haven't seen any full mission playthroughs of the four-player just yet. There have been clips and snippets of media to give players an idea of what to expect. The trade-off is that there is no competitive multiplayer.

I don't know how much the competitive multiplayer will be missed in this newest Assassin's Creed – because let's be honest here, it wasn't like it was so much competitive as it was an exercise in out-witting opponents using clever tactics and mind-games – but the four-player co-op and the expanded interior and exterior environments could prove to open the game up for some hefty replayability (assuming gamers even finish the game before the next Assassin's Creed is released).

You can look for Assassin's Creed Unity to launch for the Xbox One, PS4 and on PC starting November 11th. Need more info? You can learn more about the game by paying a visit to the official website.
