Subscribe To Postal: Redux Confirmed, Runs On Unreal Engine 4 Updates
If you're a fan of the age-old isometric murder simulator, Postal (is that the proper term for it? Because you certainly weren't playing the good guy) you're probably excited to know that a new game is in the works at Running With Scissors using the Unreal Engine 4.
Over on Gaming On Linux, they spotted tweets from the official Running With Scissors Twitter account where it was mentioned...
That's pretty good news. I was always entertained by the original Postal way back in the day. I remember playing that demo for hours on end because it was just so much fun. The game didn't really have a point or purpose beyond playing a crazy guy who went around killing everyone... including cops, soldiers and even innocent civilians.
If a game like Postal was made for today's audience the radical justice audience would absolutely take a dump on it... oh wait, they already did. The new game Hatred is sort of a new generation of Postal designed with the Unreal Engine and utilizing the latest and greatest in animation and graphics technology. The game's debut trailer was poorly received by players and critics alike, opening the game up to a lot of heated criticism.
I'm curious how Running With Scissors will handle some of the pushback from the industry when it comes to controversial subject matter. Vince Desi and company have been very vocal and active in their support of a certain consumer revolt, and some feel this could be a dangerous position to hold while certain media giants still dictate who gets coverage and who doesn't.
Also, Postal was a pretty counter-culture, misanthropic exercise in uninhibited violence – I wonder how Epic Games will react knowing that they're using the Unreal Engine 4 to remake a game that featured content and themes that have recently come under fire when Destructive Creations tried the same thing? Will the satire in Postal separate it enough that it will get a free pass... or no?
I haven't played the original Postal in ages but it was right up there as an absolute favorite alongside Interstate 76 the very first GTA and Resident Evil. A lot of those games out back then were all kinds of awesome and it's a real shame that tone policing has kind of turned certain endeavors into politically correct, homogenized clones as opposed to games that pushed boundaries because they were aiming to be different from everything else on the market. Brain Dead 13 anyone?
The Postal Redux is set to release sometime in 2015. It'll also be arriving for Linux, which means SteamOS support. You can keep up to date on the game by paying a visit to the official website.
