NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer and some info on the upcoming Mortal Kombat XL Edition, which is due to release in March for home consoles. It's a complete package containing all of Season One's content and it will also contain all of Season Two's content. The news wasn't all good, though. PC gamers won't be getting in on the XL Edition or Season Two's content packs.
IGN posted up news about the PS4 and Xbox One version of the re-release of Mortal Kombat X, which will contain all of the previously released skins, all of the previously released fighters and the extra content that comes along with it. You can get a glimpse of what's included with the Mortal Kombat XL Edition trailer below.
Gamers were very curious why the PC wasn't mentioned in the trailer, and they took to Twitter to ask NetherRealm studios about the XL Edition of Mortal Kombat X coming to the glorious PC gaming arena. However, NetherRealm shot down any possibility of that happening, posting up the following tweet below.
It's kind of unfortunate that PC gamers ended up with the short end of the stick. I'm not exactly sure why, but maybe it has to do with the sales?
Of course, whenever we talk about digital sales on PC there's only really one resource we can point to that highlights how well a game sold and that's Steam Spy. The stats appear to show that Mortal Kombat X moved just under 500,000 copies on PC since release. I don't know where that fits really in NetherRealm's estimates but for comparison's sake the game has moved approximately 2.2 million SKUs on the PS4, according to VGChartz. Now we all know not to rely on VGChartz but PlayStation Lifestyle also notes that the game moved a total of 5 million units across all three platforms. So maybe 500,000 may seem like it's not enough to warrant porting over additional DLC for the PC gaming audience. But the reasons are entirely up to NeatherRealm and Warner Bros.
Anyway, this news comes ahead of the developers announcing and showcasing the Season Two characters, which includes the Xenomorph from the movie Aliens, Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and two past characters from Mortal Kombat's illustrious roster of pugilists, including Bo' Rai Cho and Baraka.
According to IGN, you can look for the Mortal Kombat XL Edition to launch on March 1 in North America and March 4 in Europe, for both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. So long as they don't make a Season Three of DLC, I think most gamers will be a-okay with this complete edition of the game.
