Bandai Namco's Tekken 7 is nearing release, prepping to launch both digitally and physically at retailers across North America for PS4, Xbox One and PC starting June 2nd. Ahead of the game's release they rolled out a new promotional trailer that sets up the game's story.
The trailer was posted up over on the official Bandai Namco YouTube channel. The trailer is just a little over two minutes in length, detailing the story so far that has fueled the Mishima feud for so many years.
The trailer starts with a narration about how it all started with Heihachi attempting to kill Kazuya, and proceeds to explain what some of the motivations are behind the characters in Tekken 7, including Akuma's role in the game's cinematic story mode.
The trailer is cut together perfectly, managing to encapsulate the intense history between the Mishima bloodline within the span of just two minutes.
We get a glimpse of the undying blood-feud rivalry between Heihachi and Kazuya, as well as Akuma's role in fulfilling his debt as a demon to Heihachi's wife. This is being marked as the Tekken that finally ends the feud involving the Mishima saga, and that seemed unlikely until they introduced someone like Akuma, who will be stepping in to kick butt and destroy names.
Akuma has succumbed to a power that makes him an absolute perfect foil for the Mishimas. It even appears as if the Street Fighter alum will trade fisticuffs with both Kazuya and Heihachi.
Of course, there are other fan-favorite Tekken characters who also get the spotlight, including the mysterious new mission that Nina is on, seeing her don the very conspicuous wedding dress. There's also glimpses of returning faces like Law, Lee and the mechanically imbued Alisa Bosconovitch.
Other mainstays like Bryan Fury are back, along with Jack -- who we see getting absolutely decimated by Akuma -- and Jin Kazama. Some fans expressed a bit of disappointment that Jin hasn't been featured in Tekken 7's story as much as he was in previous games. However, Jin was always seen as the unfortunate victim of the Kazuya and Heihachi blood-feud, so it's not surprising if he has a smaller role leading up to the big finale between the other two. Of course, we should still expect to see plenty of Jin throughout the story, especially as a way to conclude his Devil Jin arc.
I do wonder how much of an effect Akuma will have in the final outcome of the story, though. We see that he and Kazuya tangle on top of one of the towers, but I wonder who comes out on top in that scenario? I guess we'll find out on June 2nd when Tekken 7 launches for PS4, PC and Xbox One.
