Batman: The Enemy Within May See A Nintendo Switch Release

Telltale Games' Batman: The Enemy Within turned out to be quite the spectacular release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Obviously, if Telltale wanted to reach 20 million more gamers the company would release the second season on the Switch. Well, it appears that that just might be happening.

The German USK ratings board appeared to show that Batman: The Enemy Within was set to arrive for the Nintendo Switch. The board had previously listed a Nintendo Switch version having been rated alongside the other console versions, as noted by Game Informer.

It appears the German USK website has scrubbed the ratings for now, but as the old saying goes, the internet never forgets.

While some think that perhaps this is just a mishap on the part of the ratings board, it should be noted that Telltale did previously announce that the entire first season of Batman: The Telltale Series would be appearing on the Nintendo Switch. The five episode season originally came out back in 2016 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and mobile devices, but later received an announcement for the Nintendo Switch at the end of last year, with a release on digital distributors and at participating retailers.

With the first season already available on the Nintendo Switch, it stands to reason that Telltale would most certainly want to put the second season on the Switch as well. Telltale also decided to port The Guardians of the Galaxy to the Nintendo Switch, which proved to be one of the more popular outings from the company during 2017.

Given that the first season of Batman: The Telltale Series had a more lukewarm response compared to the second season, it would seem like Telltale would definitely want Batman: The Enemy Within to appear on Nintendo's top-selling console.

The second season took everything that was present in the first season, but ramped it up by 11. Many of the original story threads that resolved themselves in the first season actually played a big part in how some of the second season unraveled. What's more is that Telltale did something that it usually doesn't do: it made all the major choices matter in a big way.

Some of the episodes had completely divergent paths based on decisions made in the previous episodes, so that it actually encouraged players to play through the games again and try something new. The multiple story threads actually received a lot of praise from gamers and set the bar pretty high for the expectations of Telltale's next outing.

It would only make sense that the company bring the critically acclaimed second season to the Switch now that all the dust has settled. But with new management having taken over Telltale and restructured the company, maybe Batman: The Enemy Within not appearing on the Switch could be a cost cutting measure, where the executives just don't see it being worth the effort to appear on Nintendo's console.

I guess for now we just have to wait and find out if the German ratings board made a mishap or if the second season of the Batman choose-your-own-adventure game will appear on the Switch sometime later this year.
