Quake Champions Launch Trailer Reveals The Death Knight

It's QuakeCon! You know what that means? It means lots of news coming out of a weekend filled with gibs and gore from some of the most popular first-person shooter franchises brought to life by the incomparable id Software. Part of the big news coming out of this year's QuakeCon has to deal with some brand new additions to the ongoing first-person shooter project from id Software and Bethesda, Quake Champions. A brand new trailer was released to introduce gamers to a new class known as the Death Knight.

The trailer is just under two minutes long. It starts with a retro recap of the first Quake and then shows Quake II, and Quake III. It then showcases Quake IV and then the latest iteration of the game, Quake Champions. The action is lightning fast and is filled with gib. The trailer then transitions over to the new character, the Death Knight, who has a pretty awesome intro by crawling out from the ground in a hole of fire, and then he starts going on about suffering and dying. We see him taking out a few opponents and get to hear a few of his quotes.

For those of you confused about who the Death Knight is, he was introduced recently as one of the new villains for the Doom Guy to take on in DOOM: Eternal, the upcoming first-person shooter set to release for home consoles and PC next year.

For his appearance in Quake Champions the Death Knight comes with his giant custom claymore, which he can actually use as a weapon during battle. The melee attack can cleave opponents in two and leave them wishing they hadn't come across the undead warrior.

In a profile page over on the official Quake website, there are a few more details about the elemental warrior, including his active ability to use the flame strike against opponents, which actually comes from his molten lava blood. The website also rolls out his stats, revealing that he has moderately high speed, health and armor, making him a formidable foe in the arena.

The Death Knight isn't the only character from DOOM to make an appearance in the game. The Doom Slayer from the 2016 outing is also part of the roster, so the two characters will have an opportunity to frag each other in the arena.

There have been a few other crossovers featured in the game as well, including BJ Blazkowicz from the Wolfenstein series.

Quake Champions is currently free-to-play, and for a limited time you can gain access to the Champions Pack for $19.79 during QuakeCon, which is discounted down by half off from the $39.99 price point. This will enable you to play as all of the Champions, including the newly revealed Death Knight. You'll only have up until September 4th, 2018 to get in on the deal, though, after that it will return to its normal price.
