Every New Trailer From the 2018 Game Awards

A bunch of new games were announced at this year's Game Awards show hosted by Geoff Keighley. Some of the games were expected, others were a bit of a surprise, and some came completely out of left field. This article here will break down all the big new trailers that aired during this year's Game Awards show.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

They kicked off the show with the surprise announcement for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. The new game is being produced by Marvel Entertainment and Koei Tecmo exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The exclusive is set to launch next year in 2019, but you'll only be able to play it on Nintendo's console. It retains the four-player cooperative play that made the first two games so famous, but it pulls out a story that's closer in structure to the recent Avengers: Infinity War movie.

Far Cry: New Dawn

Ubisoft dropped a brand new trailer for Far Cry: New Dawn, which is the direct sequel to the events that transpired at the end of Far Cry 5. If you haven't played Far Cry 5 yet, the new game spoils the ending by revealing that Joseph Seed survived and that the nukes did drop. In the aftermath, a group of bandits begin ravaging the remnants of human civilization, taking, destroying, and murdering anyone in their path. The game takes on a Mad Max-style setup where gamers have to stop two evil siblings known as The Twins, as they lead their clan of carnage across the county.

Hades

Supergiant Games, the makers of iconic games like Bastion and Transistor rolled out a trailer for the new game Hades, which is currently in Early Access right now on the Epic Game Store. The isometric title is an artistically exaggerated take on Greek mythology, featuring a mixture of hack-and-slash gameplay and some classical puzzle solving similar to what most people have come to expect from Supergiant Games. Scavengers

Another new game that was announced during The Game Awards was Scavengers from Midwinter Entertainment and Spatial OS. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic environment where gamers will have to scavenge for supplies to stay alive while dealing with other hostile forces on the ground. It looks like a mix between the original Lost Planet and the typical survival simulators that have currently taken hold of Steam Early Access. No actual gameplay was on display but I'm sure we'll see some soon enough.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

If you thought that was it, you were wrong. There were even more games on display at this year's awards show, including Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. Even though the game was announced a year ago, the new footage reveals the hook for the game, which involves moving through time, over the course of several million years, mimicking the simulation of human evolution leading up to "Lucy". The gameplay revealed a third-person, hunting-survival, 3D exploration setup, almost like a mix between Assassin's Creed and Far Cry: Primal.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled

One of the games that took the audience by surprise was Activision's announcement of the Beenox-made Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled. It's a throwback to the classic kart-racing genre that helped keep Crash Bandicoot as a mascot in the spotlight on the original PSX. The new game is going to be on PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch when it launches on June 21st, 2019 next year. It features all of the fan-favorite characters, heroes, and villains from the franchise racing across a number of familiar and new tracks.

Anthem

BioWare's Anthem has had a tough time building up hype for its release. Electronic Arts has been working overtime trying to get people excited, but one of the difficult problems with cranking up the hype is that people need something to latch onto. In the case of Anthem, EA and BioWare gave gamers something to latch onto by rolling out a story trailer that outlined what players were fighting for and how the Javelins fit into the picture. It still seems very much like Destiny 2, but if you enjoy those kinds of games then Anthem seems to be more of that kind gameplay.

The Outer Worlds

The world premiere trailer for The Outer Worlds also dropped, featuring nearly three minutes of cinematics and in-game play from the upcoming first-person, action-RPG. Private Division and Obsidian Entertainment's new game seems like a cross between Fallout: New Vegas and Borderlands. It should come as no surprise given that many of the same people who worked on Fallout: New Vegas are working on The Outer Worlds, which has a futuristic Western theme to it. The game is due out for PS4, Xbox One, and on Steam for PC.

Sayonara: Wild Hearts

There was yet another Nintendo Switch exclusive that made its world premiere debut at The Game Awards, which was Sayonara: Wild Hearts, the indie music battling game where you travel around a low-poly world racing against other opponents from specific music genres or battling against masked foes. Simigo's off-kilter game definitely seems like it fits right at home on the Switch, and it's due out for release at some point in 2019.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds - New Map

Epic Games may be stealing the spotlight these days with Fortnite, but it doesn't mean that PUBG Corporation is sitting around idly by waiting for Epic to usurp all of the market share. The company had a presence at The Game Awards, introducing a brand new map for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, along with confirming that the game is now available for the PlayStation 4, in addition to being available for the PC and Xbox One. So now you can play PUBG on any available gaming platform save for the Nintendo Switch.

Dead By Daylight - Darkness Among Us

Another game that received a major update and had a recurring presence at The Game Awards was Behavior Interactive's Dead By Daylight. It's amazing that the indie title managed to outlast Friday The 13th: The Game. Anyway, the asymmetric horror title has a brand new update rolling out featuring a new villain whose gimmick is to hide among the survivors before killing them. It's a neat way to make the survivors even more paranoid than usual.

The Last Campfire

The Last Campfire was yet another indie game on display during this year's show, but it's from a studio you probably didn't expect to launch a new game... Hello Games. Yes, the makers of No Man's Sky. The game is a visually distinct game about a group of travelers making their way through a mystical land. It's tough to get an idea of what the gameplay is like for Hello Games' new title, but it definitely reminded me of thatgamecompany's Journey.

Dragon Age: The Dread Wolf Rises

It was teased and hinted at and rumored just days before its debut at The Game Awards, and BioWare delivered on the promise of announcing a brand new entry in Dragon Age. The new game is called Dragon Age: The Dread Wolf Rises. What a cool name, eh? Well, as cool as the name is the actual visuals and the gameplay are completely masked in secret for now. The teaser trailer didn't reveal anything of significance, other than that there's a voiceover saying what we're all thinking by acknowledging that we all have questions, but the trailer doesn't provide any answers.

The Pathless

One of the more unique developers working on games these days is Annapurna Interactive. The small outfit is best known for working on games like Donut County, Ashen, and Outer Wilds. The studio's latest game is called The Pathless. It's another one of those thoughtful, existential sandbox action games where you're hunting down giant, visually flavorful, monsters while unraveling the story involving the main character and her avian companion. The game looks fantastic and it seems to have an art-style that really stands out. The core concept reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus or the upcoming Kickstarted project, Praey For The Gods. The upcoming title is due out in 2019 on the Epic Game Store for PC and on the PlayStation 4.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Persona 5 DLC

Nintendo always has a strong presence at The Game Awards, each and every single year. This year, Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime brought the big guns with an exclusive announcement about the DLC pack for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This includes the first glimpse of the Fighter Pack, which will contain five new fighters joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. The first of the fighters is Joker from Persona 5, who will be available to play in the near future after the game launches. You'll be able to get your hands on the DLC characters either by purchasing the season pass or by picking up the characters individually as they launch.

Stranger Things 3: The Game

Stranger Things 3: The Game was announced by the creators of the eponymous Netflix show, Matt and Ross Duffer. The two introduced the new game, which follows some of the story elements from the third season of Stranger Things, as well as buffs up the graphics from 8-bit visuals to 16-bit visuals. The gameplay offers players similar isometric gameplay as the previous game, but with improved combat, more exploration, new weapons and items to collect, and new abilities to utilize.

Pyschonauts 2

A surprise entry in the long list of trailers rolled out during this year's Game Awards show was Double Fine Production's Psychonauts 2. This is a sequel that has been in the rumblings and discussions of the gaming community for almost 15 years now. The sequel had to be crowdfunded through a platform called Fig because major publishers refused to put any money behind Tim Schafer's project and so the gaming community had to fund the game out of their own pocket. The new trailer outlines the game's general plotline, as well as what gamers can expect from Raz's big adventure.

Mortal Kombat 11

Last but certainly not least is Mortal Kombat 11, which dropped out of nowhere. Series creator, Ed Boon, came on stage to present for the racing and sports category, but then surprised everyone with a violent and gory cinematic featuring the upcoming game, which is coming out on April 23rd, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and for the very first time on the Nintendo Switch. Yes, the ultra-violent fighter is coming to the Nintendo Switch. The trailer is just a basic cinematic but it hints at some of the classic costumes making a return for the characters, and teases Shao Khan as a playable character for those who pre-order. A special community reveal event for the game is set to drop on January 17th, 2019 along with details on the beta.
