2K Sports announced the cover athlete for NHL 2K10 today. They've given the nod to Washington Capitals left winger Alex "Ovi" Ovechkin.

In the 2008-2009 season, Ovechkin won his second straight Maurice "Rocket" Richard Award, an honor given to the top goal scorer of the year. He's also a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy, the NHL's MVP award, which he won last year. To top it all off, he's only 23 so you can imagine why he'd end up on the cover of a video game.

""It's a good time to be Ovi!," said Ovechkin. "It's an incredible honor, and I look forward to working with 2K Sports to make NHL 2K10 the most fun and amazing hockey video game experience ever. I can't wait to put some of my moves in there."

NHL 2K10 will be released this fall for the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS2.
