Deadly Premonition Arrives On Steam Greenlight

Deadly Premonition, one of the most critically divisive games of all time, has already spread its bizarre form of open-world mystery adventure to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Now developer Rising Star Games has its sights set on a new frontier, the PC, with the game now available on Steam Greenlight.

Back when Deadly Premonition first launched on the Xbox 360 as a budget title a few years ago, critics and gamers alike couldn't quite reach a consensus on the quality of the game. Some were overwhelmed by the games many, many bugs and blemishes. Others, however, saw those aspects as an added bonus to the game's already bizarre charm. The game received scores ranging from 1 all the way up to 10, earning praise as one of the best games of the year and criticism as a jumbled-up mess.

Earlier this year, Deadly Premonition finally made the trek to the U.S. PlayStation 3, offering a slightly enhanced version of the regular game with improved visuals and controls (Even the positive reviews called out the game's controls for being too difficult). If you caught our own review of the game, you'll know that I fell into the group of people who absolutely adored it. Whether or not we believers have been duped or not is not the issue. What matters is that the game's biggest strengths is how bizarre and unconventional it is, and those aspects that would be considered flaws in most other titles come together to enhance the off-the-wall experience that is Deadly Premonition.

And now it looks like the Red Seed Killer is looking for some new territory to terrorize, as Rising Star Games adds the cult hit to Steam Greenlight. If enough people support and vote for the game, a PC version could be just over the horizon.

“Part suspense-filled horror, part action-adventure game, Deadly Premonition offers an open-world experience packed with locals to meet and places to discover, as well as numerous side quests and mini-games that will help you solve the murders and uncover Greenvale's deepest, darkest secrets,” reads a statement from Rising Star.

The PC version of Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut offers all of the enhancements found in the PS3 version of the game, along with a little extra. These bonuses include a new scenario to uncover, the new graphics and textures, reworked controls, DLC including new living quarters, cars and outfits, new bonus DLC exclusive to the PC version of the game, as well as Achievements and Steam Trading Cards.

“Steam's Greenlight process is a first for Rising Star Games and there is nothing better than the cult hit, Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut, to make our mark on it,” said Martin Defries, managing director and COO of RSG. “Rising Star Games is an extremely community-driven publisher and our vocal fans have been calling for a PC version of this game, so using Steam Greenlight gives those fans the chance to make a difference.”
