Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Players Can Beat The Game Without Being Seen

Eidos Montreal has confirmed that the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will allow gamers to “ghost” through the game without getting spotted. This was asked by an eager gamer and answered by a member of the development team.

Eurogamer spotted the exchange between Deus Ex: Mankind Divided game director Jean-François Dugas and a member of the Twitter universe having a short exchange on the social media service. Dugas made the following revelation about the game's stealth mechanics versus the action-oriented methods that can also be employed.

So there you have, the game can be “ghosted” and that even includes boss encounters through the title.

Why is this important? Well, as mentioned in the Eurogamer article, in the previous outing, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a lot of people complained about the boss fights. For some people they ran into problems being able to defeat the bosses when they put all of their skills and attributes into stealth and hacking. Quite naturally, when it was time to fight the boss at the end of a segment they were left with trying to defeat the boss with minimal weapon skills. Most of the bosses in the game were also not quite suited for gamers who focused on stealth. In result, only gamers who upgraded their combat skills were rewarded with moderately challenging but fairly easy boss battles, where-as stealth gamers and hackers struggled to get through the segments.

Since I love me some shotguns and revolvers, it was pretty easy to get through most of the boss fights. I was also kind of stupid and bought all the DLC for Deus Ex: Human Revolution and had access to the DLC weapons, so in a way, it felt a little bit like cheating at times.

Still, there was only one boss in the whole game that gave me any trouble and that was because for a while I couldn't figure out how to damage it. Otherwise, most of them went down pretty quickly to the revolver. However, it was quite apparent that the game's bosses were designed for players who focused on the combat route for Jensen, leaving the stealthy players a bit out in the cold.

Eidos Montreal did rectify the problem a bit in the director's cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the Wii U and the other home consoles; offering players a few more options to defeat bosses using stealth and hacking instead of straightforward gun or melee skills.

For Deus Ex: Mankind Divided they're already committed to offering players more routes than just that of combat, and the team has already unveiled a few of Jensen's new capabilities for non-letheal takedowns. So for players who value life over killing, there are a few more options added to the game to stun, subdue or incapacitate enemies without having to kill them or even engage with them in melee combat at close range. And with the admission from Dugas about being able to go through the whole game as a “ghost”, even for boss battles, this should make gamers keen on their stealthy gameplay appreciate Deus Ex: Mankind Divided even more when it launches for home consoles and PC.
