While storyline might be a lesser concern for fans of Doom, you may be curious how the plot of Doom 4 fits with other games in the series. A recent statement by id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead indicates that the game may have an all-new story.

"It's not a sequel to Doom 3, but it's not a reboot either. Doom 3 was sort of a reboot," Hollenshead told Gamestop. "It's a little bit different than those, and if I told you why, I would get my ass kicked when I got back. So I'll just have to leave it at that."

In other words, it's not going to follow the plot from Doom 3 but it won't be some crazy reimagining of the series, either. "Everything I've seen on it is classic Doom, so I don't really have worries that people aren't going to like it and start talking about it," said Hollenshead.

Hollenshead also mentions that development only started last year so it'll be awhile before this one's released.
