Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy Dissidia is slated to hit US shores next year. Just released in Japan it was unsure if the game would even reach America but it looks like we'll see it around mid 2009.

The game is a PSP exclusive fighter mash-up which basically pits the good guys against the bad of multiple Final Fantasy titles. It's not just a brainless fighter, though, as the game has RPG elements and even a story. The game promises to be a creamy dream to FF fans and includes Cloud, Sephiroth, Squall, Kefka and many other of the franchise favorites.

This seems like a good step for the PSP which is fighting hard to gain some ground against Nintendo's monster DS, which many Final Fantasy titles have been released on. It will be interesting to see how the battles will play because, according to Kotaku, the combat consists of limit breaks and overdrives that have been a staple of past games in the series.
