Today Activision confirmed that they will be bringing a new installment to the ultra popular party favorite Guitar Hero series. Dubbed Guitar Hero Rocks the 80’s, this will be more of an expansion pack than a true entry in the series.

The new pack will include 30 brand new songs from the hair metal dominated 1980’s era rock scene. Guitar Hero Rocks the 80’s will be exclusive to the Playstation 2, and will feature songs from genre’s ranging from hair metal to punk to new wave.

The first set of songs released includes:

• I Wanna Rock (by Twisted Sister)
• I Ran (by Flock of Seagulls)
• Round and Round (as made famous by Ratt)
• I Want Candy (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)
• Metal Health (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
• Holy Diver (as made famous by Dio)
• Heat Of The Moment (as made famous by Asia)

(Editor's Note: Where's Jukebox Hero by Foreigner? Activision needs a head check-up).

Personally I was kind of hoping Guitar Hero would take a break for a while, because the whole deal is getting a little tired. I can hardly blame Activision though, this isn’t a franchise that will last forever, sooner or later the idea of a guitar controller wont be fun anymore and the series will lose steam. They’ve got to make as much money as they can before that happens. So for now it’s, “Party on…I guess.”
