Homefront: The Revolution Release Date Delayed Until 2016

Homefront: The Revolution is almost entering into the development hell cycle. The game started off sounding promising but has devolved into a bit of a nightmare. Things have become more murky after news broke that the game has been delayed to 2016.

Eurogamer is reporting that Deep Silver Dambuster boss Hasit Zala has dropped the news about the delay, which is the first real bit of news about Homefront since Deep Silver picked up the license for the property, with Zala stating...

"We are excited that Deep Silver's acquisition of the Homefront IP and assets from Crytek has allowed development of Homefront: The Revolution to continue with minimum disruption," … "The team here believes we are working on something truly special."

Deep Silver picked up the license when Crytek had to shutdown their development studios and take on a smaller role in the game development space. This meant that Homefront: The Revolution was, for a while, going to be without a home. However, Deep Silver stepped in to pick up the license after lots of rumors started flying about Crytek failing to pay employees and rumors spread that high level directors and designers were leaving the company for greener pastures.

When Deep Silver picked up Homefront: The Revolution questions arose as to whether or not they would scrap the project, bring in a new team to finish the work or break it off into another project. It appears as if The Revolution is still gunning for a release, with Deep Silver's co-founder Dr. Klemens Kundratitz stating...

"We are giving the team every opportunity to turn Homefront: The Revolution into a best-selling title, and have set a 2016 release date to provide them the time they need to achieve this. You can expect to hear more about the game later this year."

One way of diminishing talk about “vaporware” and “development hell” is to get some gameplay footage up and out there and have the developers talk about the project to the public, assuming there's more to talk about regarding the progress of the game beyond what Crytek had mentioned before they went bust.

E3 2015 is a perfect time for Deep Silver to slither in and release some assets and promotional media material to get people talking about Homefront: The Revolution again in a positive light.

For now we know that unlike the first game the sequel will be more open world. It'll have hubs and missions that players can choose to go on, as well as the option to play the levels with a bit of non-linear flair. From what Crytek last talked about the game, players would be able to utilize the open-world environments to their advantage for either stealth gameplay or all-out guns-a-blazin' tactics.

There's really no telling at this point if Deep Silver will continue down the road that has already been paved by Crytek or if they will make some snippets, cuts and rearrangements on the pathway to release in 2016? I guess we'll find out once they decide to drop some more info on Homefront: The Revolution either this year or leading up to the game's release in 2016.
