Usually you need to wait until the week before a new month kicks off before finding out details concerning new PlayStation Plus offerings. Today, however, Sony broke their typical pattern and gave a “sneak peak” into Plus content for PlayStation 4 in December and January, including a super-powered fighter, a twin-stick shooter, a fantastic indie puzzler and a woman who can shoot neon lights out of her hands.
So, in case you weren’t aware, Sony is sorry about the fact that the PlayStation Plus version of Driveclub still hasn’t released yet. No, I mean they are really, really sorry. Sorry enough to actually acknowledge the holdup on the PlayStation Blog today, along with an apology of sorts in the form of a teaser for upcoming PlayStation Plus content.
In case you’ve missed out on all of the hubbub, a special, slimmed-down version of Driveclub was supposed launch alongside the full version of the game back in early October. The game proper experienced some serious online functionality issues, though, and so the development team decided to hold off on the Plus version of the game until they got everything running in top form. That’s still a work in progress, as it turns out, so there’s still no sign of that Plus edition of Driveclub.
For their part, Sony wants to let their Plus subscribers know that Driveclub is still on the way and, along with it, some other great games are headed down the pipeline, too.
“…We understand many of you are waiting for Driveclub PS Plus Edition to be added to the Instant Game Collection, and we apologize that the game is not yet ready to launch,” reads the statement from Matthew Harper, Senior Manager of PlayStation Digital Platforms. “We want you to know that we’re committed to providing Driveclub PS Plus Edition to members when it’s ready, and the Evolution team is working hard to make it a reality. In the meantime, we want to make sure you still have some amazing free games to play throughout the holidays, so check out the great lineup we have in store for you guys.”
Announcing upcoming Plus games as a way of making amends seems a bit odd but, hey, at least it gives PS4 gamers something else to get excited about for the months ahead, including the first ever AAA Instant Game Collection for the console, Injustice: Gods Among Us. If you haven’t played Injustice yet, it’s an awesome fighter from the folks behind the Mortal Kombat series, featuring characters from the DC Comics universe. That game is hitting the IGC in December, alongside the twin-stick shooter with a Wild West theme, Hidden Ponchos.
Gazing a bit deeper into his PS Plus crystal ball, Matthew Harper pulled back the curtain on January’s offerings, too, including indie platform puzzler, The Swapper, as well as the standalone inFamous: First Light, which serves as a prequel to Second Son.
So, what do you say, dear readers? Does that lineup make the wait for Driveclub a little less frustrating?
