EA announced today that former Baylor University quarterback Robert Griffin III (aka RG3) will be appearing on the cover of NCAA Football 13. He won't be alone on the cover, though.

Griffin is coming off a stunning 2011 season. He threw for 36 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions, with a 72% completion percentage. He won both the Davey O'Brien award, given to the best quarterback, and the Heisman Trophy, given to the best overall player. He'll be forgoing his senior year to enter the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fans will be able to vote on the game's second cover athlete through Facebook. This other player will, like Griffin, be a Heisman Trophy winner. Here are the eight candidates:
  • Former University of Southern California running back Marcus Allen
  • Former Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie
  • former The Ohio State University running back Eddie George
  • former The University of Michigan wide receiver Desmond Howard
  • former Oklahoma State University running back Barry Sanders
  • former University of Georgia running back Herschel Walker
  • former Florida State University quarterback Charlie Ward
  • former University of Houston quarterback Andre Ware.
As a Knicks fan, I'm partial to Charlie Ward. I can't imagine him beating the likes of Barry Sanders or Doug Flutie, though. At any rate, it should be an intense vote because all of those schools' students and alumni will be pushing for their favorite son. EA will open up voting on March 12th.

NCAA Football 13 is in development at EA Tiburon. It will hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 on July 10th.
