A recent Billboard article raised eyebrows by stating that Rock Band's downloadable song catalog would grow to a whopping 5,000 by the end of the year. However, Blend Games has learned that this just ain't so.

A spokesperson for Reverb Communications e-mailed Blend Games to provide the original quote where the confusion stems from. It's a line from an Ars Technica interview with Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos on January 15th. "One of the great promises of the (Rock Band) catalog moving forward, as the catalog expands from 500 songs to 5,000 songs or whatever in the coming years, is that we're going to be less constrained from a genre standpoint, and I think you will see us starting to branch out into... whether it's country or R&B and jazz or funk, or things of that sort. With the critical mass of the "rock" core covered, of course we'll keep expanding it, but the critical mass is covered, so now we can start to branch off in ways that haven't made sense in the past but will make sense moving forward."

When someone says "or whatever", generally it means they're not giving rock-hard information. He's just making a general point that regardless of how large the Rock Band library is, it's going to become more diverse. Sorry for the confusion, folks.
