Well, whether Microsoft plans to come out with a new console before 2015 or after it, one thing was made abundantly clear: The Xbox 360 and Project Natal is expected to live past the projected 2012 death-date of the Xbox 360.
According to Electronic Theatre [via Venturebeat], Project Natal will be hitting retail shelves by next Christmas (and that’s Holiday season for all the non-Christmas folk). What’s more is that Natal will be the nascence of a new era of gaming for the Xbox 360, which will extend it's lifespan to 2015...at the least.
“We firmly believe that the Xbox 360 has a life cycle through 2015 (10 years after the launch). Project NATAL is a great innovation.” Says Microsoft’s Shane Kim. “It will work with every Xbox 360 sold. It's not about pushing more pixels on the screen. It's about how to break down barriers that stop people from playing games.”
So yeah, Natal is kind of like a steroid boost of innovation for the fledging sustainability of the Xbox 360. I mean, let’s face it, without something like Project Natal I’m sure even MS Executives would be watching their watches and thinking about setting a good retirement date for the faulty yet successful 360 console.
