Lord British is back. Ultima creator Richard Garriott is back in the gaming industry with a new social media company called Portalarium.

Portalarium is said to have "a broad-based, open-social mission that will also see it expanding into content that includes open learning, open health, open science/environment, open government and much more, all wrapped in a connective virtual world in the online social networking space." Nod politely and pretend to understand that sentence.

The company's first product is more tangible and relevant to our interests. It's a plug-in for your web browser that allows a variety of game engines and technologies to run on social networking sites. The Portalarium Player currently in beta testing for the PC on Facebook. It's being used to run Portalarium's first published title, a Texas hold ‘em game called Sweet @$! Poker. In time, the Player will be able to run games on other operating systems and networking sites as well.

According to Portalarium's website, they're also planning to create a semi-3D virtual world app for social networking sites ("CenterPort"), and a collection of six casino-style games including Sweet [email protected]$! Poker ("PortCasino").
