Microsoft, Timegate and SouthPeak have collaborated together to bring gamers the X Server functionality for Section 8. The X Server will allow players to host dedicated servers for the game (running from their Windows-based PC) to host other multiplayer games for Section 8 on PC or Xbox 360.

Richard Iggo, VP of Marketing at SouthPeak, commented in the press release, saying…
“FPS fans looking for the perfect multiplayer game expect fast, reliable servers when they're playing online. We go one step further by offering an increased player count and boosting the game play experience to a new level,”… “We're confident that Section 8’s incredible team-based combat and our adoption of cutting-edge server technology provide an experience unlike anything else out there.”

The X Server software will come packaged with the PC version of Section 8, free of charge. That’s sort of a first for something Microsoft-oriented. Anyway, when using dedicated servers PC users will be able to host games for up to 64 players on the PC version of the game and up to 32 players on the Xbox 360 version of the game. That’s not bad, not bad at all.

Section 8 for PC and Xbox 360 will ship on September 1st in North America. The PS3 version is indefinitely delayed until TimeGate can get their hands on some PS3 dev kits.
