All right, so it's already been established that the Playstation 3 doesn’t have a rumble. If you’ve been considering buying one you should have known that by now. If you already have one, you also should have known that before spending $600 on a rumble-less console. Well, Splitfish is changing that with a controller that supports Sixaxis and rumble. Whoops, I think someone is going to need a new pair of pants.

Right now Splitfish is considering making Xbox and PS2 versions of their controllers, but their prime focus is on the Playstation 3. Their goal is to bring gamers a dynamic force feedback solution to the rumble-less Sixaxis controllers that Sony force-fed us poor gamers. According to the press release, “The new SplitFish dynamic force feedback system was designed to insure compliant operation with the new tilt, motion and directional sensor technologies currently found in the next generation game consoles. The potential interference on the Sony PS3 SIXAXIS Controller caused by rotating mass force feedback systems such as Immersion’s Rotating Mass Patent, required us to approach the solution from a completely new direction. While the SplitFish EdgeFX uses a mechanical feedback system, this new technology produces a whole new aspect of force and tactile feedback.”

Oh boy, now if that doesn’t make you PS3 fanboys giddy I don’t think anything will. Except, maybe, for an announcement that Dead or Alive is coming to Sony’s big black box. But I digress. Splitfish’s patent pending technology (SensorFX) will support two kick-butt modes: One for games and one for special tilt/motion effects. The technology will prove to be a remarkable boost for gamers’ interest in the Playstation 3, and more-so the Playstation 3's controllers. Splitfish is currently working with publishers/developers for getting the SensorFX technology to be used as a standard.
