I’ve been on a Gaiden kick the last few days. At least when I’m not playing Rock Band, which has finally gotten its claws into me. Just two nights ago I decided to see how far I could get before dying in Tecmo’s original Hyabusa adventure. The answer was 5-2, not bad but certainly a failing compared to my younger days. This week brings Ninja Gaiden III and Phantasy Star II to the Wii Virtual Console.

This week the offering by Nintendo more than make up for the crap fest we’ve seen lately. Personally I never beat Gaiden III, and it’ll be nice to go back and finish the NES trilogy after all this time. You can pick up Ryu’s further adventures for 500 Wii Points.

If I have to hear any more about the amazing super powers gained whilst playing a Phantasy Star game I’ll inject heroine into my temple. I get it. It’s an old and amazing JRPG. Not only that, but yes the games are that damn good. And yes, I’ll probably pick this up at some point. But if you’re at a game store and see me standing there looking apprehensive about a Lost Odyssey purchase, please don’t regale me with tales of superior JRPG’s. I know they exist. And now Phantasy Star II exists on Virtual Console for 800 Wii Points.
