Weekly Recap: Facebook Buys Oculus And 5 Other Shocking News Stories

Well this week went all kinds of sour for the Kickstarter community. They've just found out that there's a downside to kickstarting a product that becomes prime bait for giant, billion-dollar corporations who want to eat up the niche device and turn into a casual, mainstream experience. Tons of gamers feel betrayed that the Oculus Rift, the popular VR headset, will no longer be geared towards gaming. A fair bit of fear, indeed.

But with all the doom and gloom surrounding the concept of seeing ads in your VR helmet as you try to fap to the latest nude Skyrim mods, we've decided to help lighten the mood (not with fapping, of course) but with some free stuff. Over the weekend we'll be giving away PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, custom-themed Cinema Blend controllers. They're real beauts. There's also a ton of more where that comes from in this March 29th, 2014 edition of the Gaming Blend Weekly Recap.

Video Games Make You Racist

A new studio conducted by the Ohio State University is bound to cause a bit of controversy and a lot of discussion, as the study breaks down how video games could be a culprit in the spread of racism in the global interactive entertainment community. Harsh news, but those are the breaks. There is some good news, however, as titles like Hover for the Wii U or Chainsaw Incident for PS4 are bound to lighten the mood. That's not to mention there's a rather wicked series of stunt videos for Grand Theft Auto V.

White Xbox One Lands On eBay For $7k

Talk about some expensive hobbies... $7,500 on eBay for a white Xbox One? Is it worth it? Is the vanilla chocolate media player deserving of such funds? Is that cloudy white box of sexiness worthy of your wallet seed? Is that rectangular pearl of digital entertainment the machine of your dreams? Well, maybe there's still time to grab one... from eBay. If you're into something a little more cost-effective, you can pledge some dollar-dollar bills to JetGetters, which is currently trying to rack up some coin on Kickstarter. If you're short on cash all the way around, you can skip out on spending anything and grab some high-class mods for GTA IV to give the game the graphics you always wanted out of Watch Dogs.

Oculus VR Gets Purchased By Facebook

I can't imagine anyone saw this one coming, yet here it is. Mark Zuckerberg took a real gamble and publicly announced that Facebook has acquired Oculus VR for $2 billion. Yep, the amount Zuckerberg could have spent buying his own private island, he decided to instead spend on a video game VR helmet. Nice. The deal will see the company plastering logos and Facebook ads all over the headset. I'm sure it'll kind of make you feel like you're watching TV on your TV. On the upside, at least you'll still be able to enjoy games like Projeect CARS with a Oculus Rift dev unit... one that hasn't been perverted with Facebook ads.

PlayStation 4 Massive 2014 Game List

So, you may have known before that last year Sony made it public that the PlayStation 4 would have an absolutely massive game line-up. The system would be receiving tons of indie, mid-budget and AAA titles in its first year... more than 110 games. Well, Sony finally rolled out the official 2014 list for the PS4 and it's a dozy. Even though many of the games are multiplatform, one of those games won't be appearing on the rival Xbox One console... War Thunder. Why? Well, it all has to do with Microsoft's cross-platform policies. Of course, if you're a participant of the Nintendo partisanship, you don't have to worry because you're also going to be receiving tons of games... especially from the Gameboy Advance collection.
