While the October and November PlayStation sales charts offered a few surprises here and there, the majority of top-performing games for the last month of 2013 is pretty much what you would have expected, including the likes of Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassins Creed and Grand Theft Auto.

Each month, the PlayStation Blog gives the rundown of the previous month’s best-selling games for a variety of platforms, including home consoles, portables and even digital exclusives. The list for December is now available, giving gamers an idea of the types of titles that were getting their fellow controller-hounds through the holidays. When folks weren’t spending time with their family this past season, it looks like they were doing a lot of shooting, stabbing and all sorts of other violent things. I’m sure there’s a correlation to be found, for those of you looking to conduct an independent study.

Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 ruled the PS4, both with and without counting the digital upgrade program,” said SCEA Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill. “Minecraft blasted immediately to the top of the PS3 charts, the premiere of The Walking Dead’s second season had an especially strong debut, and Terraria and Tearaway continue to stimulate the minds of PS Vita creators.”

With Minecraft, Terraria and Tearaway doing so well, it’s clear that the building and do-it-yourself genres are here to stay, giving gamers a chance to flex their creativity and play an actual roll in the creation of their gaming experiences.

For a full list of December’s top performers, you’ll want to check out that PS Blog post. Otherwise, here’s a breakdown of the top five games per category.

For the PS4, including digital upgrades, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag made up the top three in that order. Flower traded bullets for petals in the four spot, with NBA 2K14 bringing down the house in fifth place.

Not including upgrades from previous gen games, the top three on the PS4 include Battlefield, Flower and NBA 2K14. Shuffling around a bit, we find Assassin’s Creed in the fourth spot and Call of Duty holding down number five.

As mentioned above, Minecraft was the top-selling PS3 game of December, followed by The Walking Dead: Season 2: Episode One. Third place went to GTA V with Call of Duty in fourth. Oddly enough, Castle of Illusions Starring Mickey Mouse was fifth, possibly spurred on by a late-year discount.

The top PS3 add-ons were the Minecraft festive skins pack, the Walking Dead season pass, Call of Duty: Black Ops II Apocalypse, Battlefield 4 premium upgrade, and the Ghosts season pass.

Terraria and Tearaway took the top two Vita spots, followed by Guacamelee, Spelunky and Rainbow Moon.

The best-selling Classics were GTA: San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot and Final Fantasy IX.
