City Interactive's upcoming World War II combat flight simulator, Combat Wings has been spotted in the Xbox Live marketplace, which inevitably means that the game will at some point make an appearance for the Live Arcade. City Interactive also confirms that the game will no longer be a retail venture but a digital-only release.

According to XBLA Fans, City Interactive updated their Facebook page to reflect that Combat Wings (formerly entitled The Great Battles of World War II) will no longer be making an appearance on store shelves. Instead, the game will purely be available as a budget-priced flight sim for the Xbox Live Arcade.

XBLA Fans goes on further to infer that the game has been listed on the marketplace but they're not sure if it's the same Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II or a different version considering that it's simply listed as Combat Wings.

This would mark yet another recent flight sim to come to home consoles within the last two years, including other notable games such as Mad Catz' Damage Inc., as well as Ace Combat and Air Conflicts. Thankfully there's been an upsurge in more niche games as opposed to having one shooter after another trying to cash in on the current Call of Duty craze.

You can actually check out a nice cache of new screenshots for Combat Wings over at XBLA Fans, or learn more about the game, which is due out later this year, by paying a visit to the Official Website.
