I just had to do it! What can I say? I’m a fan-girl, and I’m not ashamed to say so. My beloved Backstreet Boys are heading back into the studio to work on their sixth studio release. The now quartet have come back together to keep their legacy alive since the departure of fifth member Kevin Richardson in June of 2006 and multiple solo endeavours from different members of the group.

Backstreet has been recording new material, Billboard reported, while touring Europe. Band member Howie Dorough told Billboard that the studio is their first priority as soon as they finish touring North America on 6 September, ”We're looking at getting back into the studio quite quickly”, also adding that they have plans to work with Swedish super producer Max Martin—who had a hand in some of Backstreet’s most popular tunes such as “I Want It That Way” and “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)”. Dorough also stated that the band wants” to hopefully have something ready to go or at least be heavily into it by the end of the year and have something out towards the beginning of next year”.

Dorough and bad-boy band mate AJ McLean are both set to release solo albums in the near future, though the dates are still up in the air. While we’ll have to wait and see what the ever spontaneous McLean has in store for fans, Dorough says of his album, ”[It’s] kind of Latin-ish, English, Spanglish. It's just a mixture of my American roots in pop music meets my Latin roots. It's gonna be a good, kind of eclectic mixture.”

All I can say is that tried and true Backstreet fans are going to be all a quiver with anticipation until the band’s next release. Though time will only tell if the world is really ready to see another Backstreet takeover of the likes when the band was at their biggest in 2001. Let’s all pray for the best—I know I can’t wait to get back to the sugary boy band pop of the mid-late 90s!
