Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died last month after receiving a fatal blow from a stingray. Apparently, 5 weeks later, enough time has passed to drudge up the tragedy for entertainment purposes. US rapper Rass Kass is under fire for his newest track, “Gayme Over,” that spews numerous attacks on arch-rival rapper The Game. Among the countless insults hurled, one of them references the fallen Croc Hunter:
"You're the waste of LA/get blast up in LA/face down, ass up in LA/you the Crocodile Hunter, I am the stingray".
People aren’t responding well to these controversial lyrics, to say the least. Steve Irwin's manager John Stainton shot back, saying, "I just find it a bit sad that people have to stoop to that…It is disappointing. I can't understand the point of it. There are other references they can make that will put the point across."
He added, "I just think it is a pity that people do have to use Steve or anyone who has died in tragic circumstances ... as a form of entertainment."
In addition, people have been doctoring photos of Steve for a few cheap giggles. Stainton is not amused. "The fact that people have gone to the trouble of doing those sort of photographs I just find it really distasteful," he said.
I’m going to have to side with the disgruntled manager on this one. It took years for filmmakers to make a movie about 9/11, and some say that it is still too soon. So are people ready to make light of the death of a devoted husband and father yet? Not so much.
Bad taste has just soared to record heights.
