2008 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductee John Mellencamp will be featured next Tuesday, September 23rd on an all new special for A&E’s Bio Channel.

“Back Where We Started” takes a look at Mellencamp’s Indiana roots (hence the title), and will also feature an exclusive intimate concert at the historic Crump Theater in Columbus Indiana. Check your local cable and satellite TV listings for air-times.

2008 has proven to be a banner year for Mellencamp.

His album Life Death Love and Freedom, produced by T-Bone Burnett, was released earlier this year to considerable critical acclaim, with the stripped down, stark and bluesy record being called one of the best of Mellencamp’s career by more than one critic.

He also made headlines in the political arena when he was the first of many artists this year to ask G.O.P. presidential candidate John McCain to stop using his music at campaign stops and in ads (Jackson Browne and Heart later followed suit). Mellencamp was also inducted into the Rock and Hall Fame earlier this year.

The concert being shown on the Bio Channel special is Mellencamp’s first at the Columbus, Indiana theater since 1976, and the ticket sales for the rare, intimate performance are benefiting local flood relief through the Bartholomew Country Long Term Relief Team. Mellencamp has long been a supporter of various causes, and is a board member for Willie Nelson’s annual Farm-Aid shows which both benefit and promote awareness of the plight of the American family farmer.

Mellencamp is expected to perform both hits from his long and distinguished catalog, as well as newer songs from Life Death Love and Freedom, such as "My Sweet Love".
